Full textThe origin of this research lies on the desire to interrogate the way in which the pedagogic renewal movement is experienced, both singularly and collectively, as a self-organised and autonomous teachers’ training space. Its aim is to focus on how the political practice of the permanent organization of this social experience is lived and re-created. How it is experienced and how it is told; as the meaning of who we are and what we are depends on the stories we tell and are told. There we can find meaningful aspects of what it is, what it was and what may be the MRP as the political place to put relationship and thought into practice. This research stems from the idea that a social experience such as the MRP’s, i.e. the experience of a group of teachers who decided to improve their teaching practice and change the school pedagogy, is a valuable one, which deserves to be thought over. After more than thirty years, the MRP still vindicates itself as the privileged place where a set of teachers articulate a global response to both the social and educational models. The present research starts from this statement but intends not to stop at it. The discoursive practice shows a unitary and compact subject that moves within the politics of representation and from the assertive discourse of identity, ensuring the quality of the constituent organization relationship, where political and pedagogical action takes place. This discourse logic goes beyond the idea of a teacher as someone to whom things happen as long as he/she is committed to pedagogical renewal activities. And it is also surpassed the fact that every collective subject who thinks, speaks or acts, only exists as long as someone supports it.

Abstract: Population studies developed in São Paulo and Panama showed striking differences in the main regulating factors of the continuously breeding tropical butterfly Anaea ryphea. The butterfly occurs from southern Brazil to Mexico, and uses different primary larval food plants in different regions: Croton floribundus at Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil and Croton billbergianus at La Galeta, Colón, Panama. To evaluate larval mortality, I marked individual food plants, censused mapped eggs and larvae at intervals and analyzed mortality data for factors correlated with duration of life cycle, feeding behavior and known sources of mortality. Three years of data from southeastern Brazil showed that: a) The populations of immatures are highly seasonal, with high densities, occurring from approximately November to May (late spring to mid-autumn), with a peak within this period and a reproductive hiatus during winter (dry season). At the Panama site, the species occurred at low densities from approximately August to December, but with no clear peak. b) The time and amplitude of the peak at Campinas vary from year to year. c) Rainfall seems to act as the main factor promoting seasonal differences in mortality of first and second instar larvae, and together with seasonality it influences host plant quality. Life-table k-values suggest that predation (not actually observed) and parasitism (of eggs by trichogrammatid wasps and of fourth instar larvae by braconid wasps) play important roles in the density variation within the seasons. In Panama the k-values are high and similar for all instars, perhaps due to increased predation. Also severe rain storms during the rainy season may help keep densities low (because of mechanical mortality). Diminishing rainfall allows the increase of the population in October. d) A high percentage of eggs disappear at both places, but in Panama it is 50% higher. The percentage of non-fertile and parasitized eggs, on the other hand, is higher in Campinas. The proportion of hatched eggs, as a consequence, is 50% the value of Panama. No parasitism of larvae by Braconidae wasps was observed in Panama, while at Campinas it is the main mortality factor for 4th instar larvae. e) The mortality factors acting on the populations did not show any density-dependence with the present data. The life cycle of the butterfly has the same characteristics in each locality, differing mainly in the duration of the stages, due to low temperatures, and in the wing patterns of the males

Full textThe ethnohistory of Anaa, an atoll located in the western part of Tuamotu archipelago in eastern Polynesia, describes the ancient society before evangelism. The first shows the features and the uniqueness of the Anaan ancient society, through the analysis of a traditional corpus of Paea a Avehe (an indgenous born in 1889) which provides unpublished data (myths, sacred songs, genealogies, place names. . . ) collected by F. Stimson in the thirties. The past of the Tuamotuan islands is relatively obscure. This study shows in three parts the traditional use of the atoll resources, the ancient social organization features and some aspects of the tuamotuan ancient beliefs. Continuum between past and present is related to the actual knowledge of the Anaan community and the archaeological stones remains discovered through the analysis of place names. The second part of his work is in a diachronic perspective. The reconstruction of the past of the Anaan community within its former language and its ideology promoted by traditions, shows its peculiar and eminent function through the history of the archipelago. The study of historical heroes and the islands networks shows that the relationships fluctuate between war and alliance

Abstract: In the 20th century, with the sprouting of laboratory animal science, it became undeniable that the quality of the experimentation animal exerts direct influence on the research quality. The model' s health is one of the variables that more direct1y defines its quality. It's up to the researcher to validate the results of his work and for that it is necessary to have full knowledge about the parasites that could affect the laboratory animal colonies, with the purpose of vigilance and control, minimizing the interferences in the experimental results. The present work produced a data compilation on the main parasites of laboratory mice, aiming at the creation of a study source for researchers, technicians and students. Recognizing that the traditional teaching in Parasitology confers some specific difficulties to the student and to the teacher, demanding abstraction moments of both parts, the present work deals with the development of a software that functions as auxiliary tool to the teacher, from which it is possible to bring to the student a global and articulated vision of the studied dynamic phenomena. Graphical animations in three-dimensional environment have been created, illustrating the life cyc1e or morphology of the parasites: Cryptosporidium parvum and C. muris, Giardia muris, Tritrichomonas muris, Spironucleus muris, Syphacia obvelata, Myocoptes musculinus and Myobia musculi. The description of the created software, its evaluation and use perspectives are presented here

Such experiences and associations are reflected in the work of Louise Bourgeois, Eva Hesse, Doris Salcedo, Lucio Fontana, Richard Tuttle, Mona Hatoum, Simone Mangos, Anya Gallaccio and Yoshihiro Suda. In relation to my own work, the metaphor of interconnecting thread allows a sense of freedom and journey of discovery. From Bless Me, Ultima, I would like to present two major themes. First of all, it is the spiritual odyssey of the protagonist, Antonio. Second, my contention will move to Antonio’s psychological development, which is much under his Chicano cultural influences, and further on to his responding strategies. Basically, my emphasis will be laid on his gradual realization of his ethnic identity, regarding to the development of his personality. From the text, my task is to trace Antonio’s process of identification with his Chicano peers. I would apply to my discussion of the Chicano cultural background the idea of “mestizaje,” which is unique and evolved by Chicanos themselves. Such an unusual living condition creates a great degree of ambiguity and dilemma, but otherwise, Chicanos in response come out with their own strategy, which is called by Gloria Anzaldua “the borderland consciousness.” This notion largely draws from the dynamics and fluidity of their political status. On the other hand, Bless Me, Ultima is inserted greatly with indigenous Chicano/Indian folklore and legends. As far as Antonio’s ethnic consciousness is concerned, these myths contain a great importance. Whereas, this mythic aspect also tends to draw for the text negative criticism and hence the story is degraded as mere ethnography. From this discrepancy, I would lead my discussion of the novel further to the relation between ethnic history and contemporarity. In the text, these two units exist in a supplementary form, instead of being conflicting. In addition, the text is also inserted with a long sequence of dramatic dreams. I would like to discuss how these dreams affect the overall structure of the book and their relation to Antonio’s personality development.
