La zone cartographique du lac McCann se trouve dans la province rae du Bouclier canadien. Les dépôts quaternaires sont vastes et épais, avec des affleurements rocheux éparpillés partout. Le till est largement profilé vers l’ouest-sud-ouest par l’écoulement glaciaire tardif de la ligne de partage des eaux glaciaires de Keewatin et est incisé par des corridors d’eau de fonte sous-glaciaires d’écoulement ouest-sud-ouest qui s’étendent sur toute la zone cartographique, espacées de 5 à 15 km. La chronologie de l’écoulement glaciaire (figure 1) est consignée à la fois dans les reliefs et les stries.
