Abstract:

A new species of Tetranchyroderma, T. garraffonii, is described from sublittoral sediments off the coast of Florida, USA. The new species possesses mixed scale types in the form of feathered biancres – a novel discovery for the genus – as well as feathered triancres and ordinary triancres. Biancres consist of a round scale base, a pair of ancre shafts that arise individually from a v-shaped cuticular ridge on the scale, and feathered ancres. Triancres are similar in appearance but have a different ridge pattern. Ordinary triancres occurred in two forms on the lateral sides of the body: a bowl-shaped ancre and a ‘pitchfork’ shaped ancre. Other distinguishing characteristics of the new species include the presence of cephalic tentacles, a papillated fringe to the oral hood, and a single pair of lateral and dorsolateral adhesive tubes at the posterior end. Confocal microscopy verified the presence of a muscular caudal organ and partly muscular vas deferens.

Abstract:

Le modèle des ancres de carrière proposé par Schein en 1978 est considéré comme une contribution majeure pour comprendre les cheminements de carrière des individus. En fait, cette théorie repose sur le postulat implicite selon lequel un individu ne posséderait qu’une seule ancre dominante. Ce phénomène de dominance est encore appelé « différenciation ». Aussi, de nombreux chercheurs en déduisent-ils qu’il faut ne retenir que l’ancre de carrière ayant le score le plus élevé pour opérationnaliser ce concept de dominance ou de différenciation. Pourtant certains individus pourraient posséder plusieurs ancres élevées, ce qui pose la question de la multiplicité des ancres, ici appelée « indifférenciation ». S’appuyant sur un échantillon de 900 ingénieurs québécois, cette étude montre que « l’indifférenciation » est plus fréquente qu’on ne le pense, qu’elle n’est pas un phénomène pathologique et qu’elle permet de mieux cerner un cheminement de carrière mal connu, soit le cheminement hybride.

Abstract:

Cette recherche vise à comprendre comment les seniors font face à des chocs de carrière. Si les derniers travaux montrent que ces derniers ne sont pas toujours acteurs de leurs carrières, nos travaux soulignent leur capacité d’agence. Cette étude a adopté une démarche qualitative auprès de managers de transition. Elle souligne que les seniors arrivent à dépasser les chocs de carrières qu’ils rencontrent en ayant des stratégies de recentrage ou de rééquilibrage de leur ancre de carrière. Plusieurs tactiques associées sont identifiées comme par exemple un choix stratégique des missions ou une mobilisation active du réseau permettant aux seniors d’atteindre leur objectif.

L'univers flou de la postmodernité est confronté aux processus d'institutionnalisation. Les expressions de la personne s'enracinent dans les mouvements collectifs. L'identité, quant à elle, est certes au coeur d'une problématique du sujet, mais elle se situe aussi au sein d'enjeux sociaux. Cet essai ancre la réflexion au croisement de ces multiples interrogations, en mettant l'accent, en particulier, sur un ethos de la subjectivité qui, s'il représente, d'un côté, une réponse à la désagrégation des identités collectives, constitue, de l'autre, une ressource essentielle pour leur reconstitution. Finalement, c'est par le concept de sociotopie que nous tenterons de montrer la nature intimement territoriale des dynamiques évoquées.

Ce texte pose l’hypothèse de la perpétuation, dans la Mongolie postsocialiste, d’un dispositif de mise en confiance façonné dans la dernière phase de l’édification du socialisme en Mongolie (vers la fin des années 1950). Ce dispositif ancre un type particulier de mémoire sociale – la mémoire sociale des exemples – dans un sentiment nostalgique commun mais très prégnant en Mongolie : l’absence des êtres chers. J’avance que cet ancrage permet de comprendre la pérennité de ce dispositif dans une société mongole postsocialiste surtout caractérisée par une situation de précarité de la confiance sociale.

Abstract:

The present study investigated the effect of inbreeding depression on sperm quality using automated and objective methods and subsequent effects on beef bull field fertility. Individual inbreeding coefficient (F) values and field fertility data were determined using a dataset of AI bulls belonging to the Spanish Retinta Breeders Association (Asociación Nacional de Criadores de Ganado Vacuno Selecto de Raza Retinta (ANCRE)). Animals were clustered in two groups according to the F values as follows: (1) a high inbreeding group (HI; F ≥ 13.5%, mean 16.3); and (2) a non-inbreeding group (NI; F = 0%). In total, 17 different assessments were performed in both experimental groups, including evaluation of sperm morphology, acrosomal and DNA status, sperm plasma membrane integrity and function (hypo-osmotic swelling test), 10 kinetic parameters and the structure of sperm subpopulations. Sperm morphology, acrosomal and DNA status and osmotic tolerance were similar in both groups. Three velocity parameters (curvilinear velocity, straight line velocity and average path velocity) and the amplitude of lateral head displacement were higher in HI (P < 0.05). Cluster analysis of kinematic parameters revealed three different sperm subpopulations (sP1, sP2 and sP3), with the proportion of the sP1 population (highly active but non-progressive spermatozoa) being significantly (P < 0.05) higher in the HI group. Field fertility was assessed using two calving record datasets. In a smaller database including only bulls evaluated in the present study, there was a significant increase in the calving interval of cows sired with HI bulls. Conversely, in an extended genetic analysis of the ANCRE database, inbreeding only explained a small part of the variation in calving interval, and the results of regression analysis were not significant among bulls. The findings of the present study suggest that high inbreeding levels have a moderate effect on bull semen quality, with an increased percentage of highly active but non-progressive spermatozoa, but only when F values reached a certain threshold. This motility pattern could explain, in part, the higher calving interval produced by inbred bulls under field conditions.

Abstract:

Olivier Schwartz occupe une place centrale dans la sociologie française des mondes populaires depuis le début des années 1990, et de manière concomitante dans la diffusion de la méthode ethnographique. Partant de l’analyse de la trajectoire sociale et intellectuelle du sociologue des années 1970 à nos jours, l’entretien éclaire le contexte dans lequel l’ethnographie s’est formalisée et développée en France. L’évocation du dialogue entretenu avec les disciplines voisines (anthropologie, histoire, philosophie) et des différentes enquêtes menées ouvre ici, finalement, à une contribution sur la nature même de la sociologie ethnographique. Les individus que l’on rencontre dans l’enquête ne peuvent être réduits à des personnes détachées des rapports de pouvoirs qui se jouent à différentes échelles ; les données empiriques récoltées n’ont de sens que replacées dans une structure sociale bien plus large que le petit monde social observé. Inversement, l’ethnographie modifie la manière de faire de la sociologie : l’expérience de l’enquête « ancre » dans une société. Le savoir qui en est produit n’en est que mieux armé.

On early pseudo-learned orthographic forms: A contribution to the history of English spelling and pronunciation The history of English contains numerous examples of "improved" spellings. English scribes frequently modified spelling to make English words and some popular borrowings look like words of Latin or Greek origin. The typical examples are Eng. island, containing mute <s> taken from Lat. insula or Eng. anchor ‘mooring device’ (< Fr. ancre), with non-etymological <h>. Although such "reformed spellings" became particularly fashionable during the Renaissance, when the influence of the classical languages was at its peak, "classicised" spellings are also found earlier, e.g. in texts from the 14th century. In the present contribution which concentrates on identifying such earliest influences on spellings in Middle English attention is focussed on the regional distribution of reformed spellings, with a sociolinguistic focus on the type of the text. The data for the study come from standard sources like the Middle English Dictionary (2001) and Oxford English Dictionary (2009).

Au moyen de ses mots, de ses gestes, de ses interactions, de ses inactions et de ses actions, notamment observables dans l’activité ludique, l’enfant placé nous raconte son histoire, nous expose ses besoins et les ressources qui l’animent. Pour parvenir à comprendre la subjectivité de l’enfant et ainsi adapter la prise en charge en visant la reconstruction, les équipes institutionnelles peuvent donc utiliser le jeu. Cet article a pour objectif d’expliquer notre conception de l’activité ludique : elle est une voie de compréhension et de reconstruction du vécu de l’enfant placé. Plus largement, il permet de réfléchir à l’importance de la présence du jeu dans le quotidien de l’enfant placé et à la nécessité de tenir compte des éventuels effets du parcours de vie sur le présent en service résidentiel. Grâce à des illustrations cliniques, nous inscrivons nos idées dans une réalité concrète, nuancée et interprétée avec un regard critique. Abstract:

Les Gitans espagnols forment une minorité culturelle aux sources métissées, forcée à l’assimilation jusqu’à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Des emprunts mutuels marquent leurs relations avec la société espagnole. La multiplicité des origines de la population majoritaire de Jerez a influencé « l’intégration » des Gitans dans cette ville espagnole marquée par leur concentration importante et le discours sur « l’entremêlement » identitaire (entreverado est l’expression vernaculaire). Cette composition sociale spécifique alimente une hésitation à reconnaître l’identité culturelle gitane au profit d’un entremêlement culturel anonyme menant à une identification citoyenne. Le métissage et la multiplicité des emprunts mutuels complexifient la reconnaissance de la spécificité de l’identité gitane, qu’elle soit métissée ou non. En réponse à une quête d’exotisme chez soi et rééquilibrant les « oublis » forcés d’un patrimoine identitaire, le « sang » est parcellarisé de façon à privilégier ses lignées de façon contextuelle. Comme dans les contextes coloniaux, le discours sur la quantification du sang intervient dans la validation des identités personnelles et collectives. Cet article ancre les variations et modalités du métissage dans ses dimensions culturelle, sociale, politique et citoyenne en parcourant les expériences et les discours sur la gitanité et le gitanisme.

Abstract:

Abstract Magmatic activity linked to syn- or post-collisional zones leads to the emplacement of remarkably heterogeneous rocks: calc-alkaline, high-K calc-alkaline or shoshonitic series variably contaminated by continental crust; anatectic granites and ignimbrites derived from the latter; and finally alkali potassic to ultrapotassic basalts [Harris et al., 1990; Pearce et al., 1984, 1990; Arnaud et al., 1992; Benito et al., 1999]. The main sources of these magmas are either the upper mantle (sub-oceanic or subcontinental) frequently metasomatized by hydrous fluid originating from the subducted slab; or the continental crust, which can act as a contaminant [Benito et al., 1999; Miller et al., 1999] or melt directly [Harris et al., 1990; Zingg et al., 1990]. The purpose of the present paper is to document the role of a third source: the subducted oceanic crust, as evidenced by the occurrence of Miocene adakites in Sarawak (NW Borneo). The studied rocks have been sampled from western Sarawak (fig. 1), and their location is shown on the geological map [Tan, 1982] of figure 2. They mostly occur as stocks, dykes and sills which crosscut the Paleozoic to Miocene sedimentary units. Two kinds of intrusions can be distinguished. High-K calc-alkaline to medium-K calc-alkaline diorites and microdiorites occur in the northern part of the studied area, in Salak Island and Santubong Peninsula. Microtonalites and dacites occur near Kuching and in the southern part of Sarawak (Kuap and Bau areas). Whole-rock K-Ar data (table I) demonstrate that these two associations are of different ages: high-K calc-alkaline diorites were emplaced during the Lower Miocene (22.3 to 23.7 Ma), whereas the microtonalites and dacites are younger by ca. 8 Ma or more (Middle to Upper Miocene, 14.6 to 6.4 Ma). Major and trace element data (table II) show that the Lower Miocene diorites display all the usual characteristics of subduction-related magmas. The Middle to Upper Miocene microtonalites and dacites share some of these characteristics, but in addition they display typical adakitic features: SiO 2 -rich (65.5-70%) and sodic (Na 2 O/K 2 O>2) character (table II and figure 3); lack or rare occurrence of pyroxenes, usually replaced by early-crystallized (near-liquidus) amphiboles (table III); very low Y and HREE contents, consistent with the presence of residual garnet in their source, and leading to characteristically high La/Yb and Sr/Y ratios (fig. 4, 5). Their titanomagnetite-hemoilmenite associations reflect equilibrium features [Bacon and Hirschman, 1988] indicating moderate temperatures (<900 degrees C) and highly oxidizing (NNO+1) crystallization conditions [Ghiorso and Sack, 1991]. The Lower Miocene Sarawak diorites are typically subduction-related from a geochemical point of view. They likely derive from the evolution of island-arc basaltic magmas, which themselves originated from the partial melting of upper mantle peridotites previously metasomatized by hydrous fluids expelled from the subducting oceanic slab [Tatsumi et al., 1986; Tatsumi, 1989]. The origin of the Middle-Upper Miocene adakitic microtonalites and dacites is different. According to previous studies, they likely derive from the partial melting of metabasalts (garnet amphibolites or eclogites) from subducted oceanic crust [Defant and Drummond, 1990; Defant et al., 1991, 1992; Drummond et al., 1996; Maury et al., 1996; Martin, 1993, 1999]. Their position in the hybrid tonalite+peridotite system [Caroll and Wyllie, 1989] shows that they crystallized within the garnet stability field and likely interacted with the upper mantle during their ascent (fig. 7). This feature is not consistent with their genesis through melting of metabasalts accreted at the base of the Borneo continental crust. In addition, the less evolved Sarawak adakites display mineralogical and geochemical features remarkably similar to those of the 1991 Mt Pinatubo dacite, the experimental petrology of which has been extensively studied at low [2 kbar; Scaillet and Evans, 1999; Rutherford and Devine, 1996] to medium pressures [4 to 20 kbar; Prouteau et al., 1999]. Such dacitic magmas are not in equilibrium with garnet at pressures lower than or equal to 20 kbar, which rules out their derivation from metabasalts tectonically or magmatically accreted to the base of the North Borneo continental crust. We propose, instead, that they originated from the partial melting of basalts from a fragment of oceanic lithosphere within the upper mantle. Like the adakites of Central Mindanao, Philippines [Sajona et al., 1994, 1997 and 2000; Maury et al., 1996] and those from Aird Hills, Papua-New Guinea [Smith et al., 1979; Defant and Drummond, 1990] the Sarawak adakites represent potential markers of the occurrence at depth of oceanic crust slivers, which could be much more common in collision zones than previously thought.

In this species, the fates of the vulval precursor cells are determined by two successive nested inductions by the uterine anchor cell (instead of a single one in C. elegans). This hermaphroditic species can be cultured and handled like C. elegans. We review vulva development in this species. We present some molecular tools and the sequence of the Ras gene. This species is amenable to genetic analysis and we discuss the isolation of morphological markers. Afin d’étudier l’évolution du développement de la vulve des nématodes, nous nous concentrons sur l’espèce Oscheius/Dolichorhabditis sp. CEW1 (Rhabditidae) en la comparant à Caenorhabditis elegans. Dans cette espèce, les destinées des cellules précurseurs de la vulve sont déterminées par deux inductions emboîtées provenant de la cellule ancre de l’utérus (au lieu d’une seule chez C. elegans). Cette espèce hermaphrodite peut être élévée et manipulée comme C. elegans. Nous décrivons le développement de la vulve dans cette espèce. Tetranchyroderma adeleae sp. nov. is described from North Stradbroke Island, eastern Australia, where it is present in low abundance in the clean, coarse sediments of Cylinder beach. The species is characterized by the presence of epidermal glands on the oral hood and three pairs of dorsolateral cirrata. This is also the first described species of Tetranchyroderma with mixed ancre types that consist of both ordinary triancres and feathered triancres. Ordinary triancres are present on the ventrolateral margins of the body while feathered triancres adorn the dorsal side. Details of the ultrastructure of the cuticle in T. adeleae sp. nov. and a species of Pseudostomella are compared to each other and the cuticle of additional species of Thaumastodermatidae. At the ultrastructural level, feathered triancres are composed of a thickened endocuticular base with three tines (shafts) that give rise to pointed, feather-shaped scales. The structure of the base, tines and scales reveals a finely granular construction without noticeable substructure. The ultrastructure of feathered triancres is similar to that of ordinary triancres and broadly similar to feathered triancres in other species. However, differences are noted in the contour of the feathered scales that are not detected with light microscopy. Future studies of the thaumastodermatid cuticle using scanning electron microscopy are warranted to provide enhanced three-dimensional resolution and insight into their evolution.

Cet article étudie le mediacoaching entendu comme professionnalisation du conseil à la prise de parole dans l’espace public et médiatique. Il considère les pratiques professionnelles en lien avec les discours qui les légitiment et s’inscrit dans le cadre de l’étude de la professionnalisation de la communication dans l’espace public (Michel, Lépine, Martin-Juchat et al.) et des liens ambigus entre journalisme et communication (Charon, Legavre, Olivesi). Examinant, à partir d’une étude de terrain, les conceptions et le travail d’une agence de conseil auprès de ses clients, comme les représentations de ces derniers, cette recherche fait apparaître que le mediacoach ancre ici son supposé savoir dans le métier de journaliste, exercé précédemment, identité professionnelle légitimante et favorablement perçue par les clients pour la compréhension qu’elle leur donne des perceptions médiatiques qu’ils s’apprêtent à rencontrer. Le mediacoach apparaît dès lors comme un adaptateur médiatique, ou un initié, concourant à la construction du message du porte-parole de l’organisation et à la supposée émancipation (autonomisation) de celui-ci dans sa prise de parole. This article examines media coaching as an approach to presenting viewpoints in public and in the media. It looks at this activity in relation to the type of discourse that legitimates it, in the framework of professional communication (Michel, Lépine, Martin-Juchat), and with regard to the ambiguity of the connection between communication and journalism (Charon, Legavre, Olivesi). Based on an empirical study of a consultancy and its clients, along with the representations mobilized by the latter, the research demonstrates how a media coach can draw on previous experience as a journalist, which confers authority and is favorably viewed by clients for the insights it gives them into the media. A coach can thus participate in the co-construction of an organization’s messages, and the consequent emancipation, or autonomisation, of its spokespersons.
