Abstract:
Surface wastewater is consideredas effluents, which are formed on the surface of urbanized areas. Stormwater treatment is performed out using a variety of filters: sand, grass. Wastewater penetration into the deeper layers is called hydraulic conductivity. After evaluation of the hydraulic conductivity, it is possible to determine the ability of the investigated fillers to entrap the stormwater flow. The hydraulic conductivity tests can indicate which fillers of stormwater filters may influence the more effective stormwater cleaning. Four stormwater filters were tested: crushed autoclaved aerated concrete filter; crushed autoclaved aerated concrete with Meadow grass (Poa pratensis) layer; silica sand filter with Meadow grass (Poa pratensis) layer; silica sand filter. Under in-situ conditions hydraulic conductivity in filters is investigated using Constant-head method. Mathematical modeling program Hydrus-1D presentsthe changes of hydraulic conductivity in each filler layer of the filter. Assessed hydraulic conductivity in filters under in-situ conditions hasn‘t changed only in crushed autoclaved aerated concrete filter (30 000 mm/d). The smallest hydraulic conductivity in filters under in-situ conditions was estimated in silica sand filter with Meadow grass (Poa pratensis) layer, here it was equal to 209.3 mm/d.With mathematical modeling program Hydrus-1D it was found that the hydraulic conductivity in each filter decreases, depending on the depth of filler in the filter. Paviršinėmis nuotekomis laikomos tokios, kurios susidaro ant urbanizuotos teritorijos paviršiaus. Paviršinių nuotekų valymas atliekamas taikant įvairius filtrus – smėlio, augalinius. Nuotekų skverbimasis į gilesnius sluoksnius vadinamas hidrauliniu laidumu. Įvertinus hidraulinį laidumą galima nustatyti tiriamų filtro užpildų gebėjimą sulaikyti atitekėjusių paviršinių nuotekų srautą filtro užpilduose. Atlikus hidraulinio laidumo tyrimus, galima nustatyti, kurie paviršinių nuotekų filtro užpildai gali lemti efektyvesnį paviršinių nuotekų išvalymą. Tiriami keturi paviršinių nuotekų filtrai: smulkinto autoklavinio akytojo betono filtras; smulkinto autoklavinio akytojo betono ir pievinės miglės dangos filtras; kvarcinio smėlio filtras su pievinės miglės danga; kvarcinio smėlio filtras. Natūrinėmis sąlygomis hidraulinio laidumo tyrimas atliekamas, taikant Constant-Head metodą. Matematinio modeliavimo programa Hydrus-1D pateikiama, kaip kinta hidraulinis laidumas kiekviename filtro užpildo sluoksnyje. Nustatytas hidraulinis laidumas filtruose natūrinėmis sąlygomis nekito smulkinto autoklavinio akytojo betono filtre (30 000 mm/d). Mažiausias hidraulinis laidumas natūrinėmis sąlygomis nustatytas kvarcinio smėlio filtre su pievinės miglės (Poa pratensis) augalinės dangos sluoksniu, čia jis nustatytas 209,3 mm/d. Matematinio modeliavimo programa Hydrus-1D nustatyta, kad hidraulinis laidumas filtruose mažėja priklausomai nuo filtro užpildo gylio.

Abstract:
This paper presents that the RC polyphase filer has characteristics as a complex analog Hilbert filter. Phase characteristics of the RC polyphase filter have the same as the Hilbert filter. Also its gain characteristics can be approximated as the Hilbert filter; as its order becomes higher, its gain characteristics become closer to the Hilbert filter. We have proved these for 1st to 4th RC polyphase filters, as well as in general n-th order case, and also confirmed with numerical simulations.

Abstract:
THE PURPOSE. Broadband passive filters (BBF) are an effective measure to mitigate harmonic resonance in power systems with nonlinear harmonic producing loads. The disadvantage of simple second-order broadband filters are pure selectivity and excessive fundamental frequency losses. This is especially evident in devices designed for low-order harmonics mitigation. This paper presents new broadband filter configurations with superior performances and low fundamental frequency losses.METHODS. A general method of broadband passive filter design is considered. The filter has the form of single-loaded ladder LC-two-port. Conditions of minimal fundamental frequency loss of the filer are determined.RESULTS. This paper presents new broadband filter configurations with superior damping performances and low fundamental frequency losses. Different broadband filter configurations are compared. The results show that 3-5 order broadband ladder filters have better filtering performance and lower power loss than traditional C-type filters.CONCLUSION. The proposed broadband filters can be used for industrial power systems with powerful nonlinear loads. This will normalize the power quality and at the same time improve the energy efficiency of compensating devices.

The application of rigid ceramic filter for gas filtration on an industrial scale has shown unstable operation over periods of days. The behavior of the ceramic filtration in further application can be predict by measuring properties of a variety of dust and filtration operation condition. The aim of the experimental investigation is to analysis the pressure distribution inside and outside the ceramic filter along the filter length, and to analyze the pressure drop across the filter along the filter length. Ceramic filter filtration system composes multi-pipe filters for gas clean up is introduced. The operation parameters can be measured by this test system, such as the pressure in the filter cavity and outside the filter surface, velocity outside the filter, gas temperature and humidity, flow rate, dust particle size concentration before gad entering the filter tank and after the gas leaving the filer tank, the pulse cleaning pressure.

Abstract. The paper is considered the problem of constructing autonomous mobile robotic platform with the possibility of rearranging their characteristics depending on the operating conditions. A new approach is proposed for calculating the parameters of a new connection with a series connection of low-order components of the same type. The resulting ratio allows you to accurately calculate the frequencies of the n-th connection of the same type components. Such a connection allows increasing the quality factor characteristic of the amplitude frequency characteristic and reducing the bandwidth by 3 times with eight connected filters of the same type. Bandpass filters and notch Butterworth filters are considered. Behavior of the AFC for serial connection is described. Key words: amplitude frequency characteristic, phase frequency characteristic, Industry 4.0-6.0, digital filter, bandpass filter, notch filter, quality factor characteristics, frequency dependent component, notch filter based on bandpass filer, serial connection.

Abstract:
Many applications of approximate membership query data structures, or filters , require only an incremental filter that supports insertions but not deletions. However, the design space of incremental filters is missing a "sweet spot" filter that combines space efficiency, fast queries, and fast insertions. Incremental filters, such as the Bloom and blocked Bloom filter, are not space efficient. Dynamic filters (i.e., supporting deletions), such as the cuckoo or vector quotient filter, are space efficient but do not exhibit consistently fast insertions and queries. In this paper, we propose the prefix filter , an incremental filter that addresses the above challenge: (1) its space (in bits) is similar to state-of-the-art dynamic filters; (2) query throughput is high and is comparable to that of the cuckoo filter; and (3) insert throughput is high with overall build times faster than those of the vector quotient filter and cuckoo filter by 1.39X--1.46X and 3.2X--3.5X, respectively. We present a rigorous analysis of the prefix filter that holds also for practical set sizes (i.e., n = 2 25 ). The analysis deals with the probability of failure, false positive rate, and probability that an operation requires accessing more than a single cache line.

The hydraulic oil filter is one of the components contained in the hydraulic system which functions to filter the impurities contained in the oil so that it does not circulate into the system. The purpose of this study was to determine the performance of the original and non-original filters in relation to the damage that occurred to the control valve. The results indicated that the damage to the spool valve was caused by hydraulic oil contaminated with water, resulting in corrosion on its surface. Visual inspection of the hydraulic oil filter reveals particles found in the filer element.

Abstract:
For satellite communication systems, high performance filters are needed in order to reject unwanted signals in many parts of the communication chain. High quality factor (Q) technologies can meet this requirement, but they often lead to bulky devices. On the other hand, compact technologies are generally low Q and suffer from a degradation of electrical performances in terms of insertion loss, selectivity and flatness. To meet a growing demand concerning size reduction, it is essential to develop compact microwave filters with improved electrical performances. For a receive filter, the challenge is to design a compact bandpass filter with a flat response in the passband and a sharp transition in the passband edges. The insertion loss is not crucial and it can be compensated by the amplifier, leaving a room to the design of a lossy filter. Such a filter accepts additional losses, which can be distributed in the network in order to provide a flat transmission in the passband and a sharp selectivity. In this thesis, new synthesis methods for filtering devices have been studied and developed to improve performances while maintaining a small footprint. These methods have been validated for the design of filters for a receiver in payload satellites as part of collaboration between the Xlim laboratory, the France National Space Centre and Thales Alenia Space

Abstract:
This thesis report deals with the development of a methodology for the design of bandpass filters including dispersive coupling to optimize the selectivity of these filters by generating and controlling the position of additional transmission zeros. A state of the art on the different approaches proposed in the literature for the synthesis of microwave filters with dispersive coupling is first proposed. This analysis is illustrated by several concrete examples, and a structure in particular, comprising a coupling capacitive post, is the starting point of the work. New dispersive coupling elements were then proposed, capable of generating both positive and negative couplings, thus enabling the transmission zeros to be positioned in the upper or lower stopped band. These elements have then been integrated in more complex filtering structures to achieve, for example, on-line structures having several out-of-band transmission zeros or multiband filters with enhanced selectivity. Many of the devices designed have been manufactured and measured. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulations validating the proposed approach

Abstract:
They are used whenever a signal needs to be split into different frequency bands. Since the early seventies, the theory of digital filter banks has developed to a mature state. Today there exist numerous ways to design filter banks for different applications, such as image and audio coding, transmultiplexing in communication systems, echo cancellation, and analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion systems. However, earlier work has to a large extent been on the transfer function level, whereas in this thesis work, efficient realizations, important in e.g. low-power applications, are in focus. Further, most of the previous work have been focused on the perfect reconstruction (PR) case, which is, for many applications an unnecessarily severe restriction. It has been show that by relaxing the requirements on perfect reconstruction, and allowing the filter banks to have some errors, the arithmetic complexity can be reduced significantly. This thesis treats digital filters and uniform non-PR filter banks. A major part of the filter banks are realized using different modulation schemes (complex, cosine, or sine modulation). The governing idea through the thesis is the combination of frequency selectivity and low arithmetic complexity. One example on how to achieve frequency selective digital filters and filter banks with low arithmetic complexity is to use the frequency-response masking (FRM) approach. This approach together with the idea of using IIR filters instead of FIR filters is successfully used in the thesis. The price to pay for the reduced arithmetic complexity using FRM filters is unfortunately a longer overall delay. Therefore, some work has ben done in the field of low-delay FRM FIR filters as well. These filters are optimized on both low delay and low arithmetic complexity simultaneously. A number of design examples are included in order to demonstrate the benefits of the new classes of filters and filter banks.

Abstract:
Abstract Emergency landings, also known as "aircraft on ground" (AOG) situations, can arise from various causes, including the clogging of jet fuel filters. This paper focuses on the problem of clogged fuel filters and its connection to microbial growth. When a jet fuel filter becomes clogged, even with a full fuel tank, pilots receive a low fuel message, necessitating an emergency landing at the nearest airport. Failure to address the root cause of filter clogging may result in recurring incidents, causing further disruptions to air travel schedules. To mitigate such issues, it is crucial to identify and take appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of clogged fuel filters. Our analysis of numerous jet fuel filters has revealed that microbial growth is a prevalent cause of clogging. Microbial contamination within fuel tanks lead to filter obstructions, operational disruptions, and emergency landings. In this paper, we will discuss interesting case studies of fuel filter clogging due to microbes, metal chips, and lint. Also, in this paper we will focus on periodic sampling and testing of jet fuels to detect microbial growth. Employing proper tank cleaning procedures, ensuring appropriate fuel handling, and utilizing biocides can effectively control microbial growth within jet fuel systems.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The rehabilitation of the filters, which is regularly performed on the rapid-sand filters at the Štrand water treatment plant in Novi Sad, involves the replacement of the filter media in order to maintain the quality of the filtration. Replacement of media includes procedures: taking out, washing, drying and sowing of old filler sand, procurement of new quartz sand, granulometry control, filter operation control and condition control of the walls, double bottom and nozzle filter, filter washing and finally installation of new filling. The rehabilitation methodology is described in the performance. The conditions are specified, the exact way of working and the sequence of actions are defined, as well as some problems that were encountered during the execution and the way in which they were solved and overcome. The results of determining the granulometry of quartz sand and water quality before and after rehabilitation are presented.

Abstract:
The recently introduced concept of entropy optimized filters1 led to optical correlators of very good discrimination even in the presence of substantial noise. Various numerical procedures were found to be quite effective in the generation of regular holographic filters. However, the convergence of most of these algorithms was inadequate for phase-only filters due to the fast variations in these filters. In this work we show that procedures of simulated annealing are suitable also for the generation of phase-only filters leading to high quality performance. To improve the process of filter generation, electrooptic architectures are proposed for their implementation.

Abstract:
Abstract Testing was conducted to find a suitable filter to help separate helium gas from the Spallation Neutron Source’s mercury process loop. This filter is proposed for installation on the gas-liquid separator (GLS) vent line to prevent a column of liquid mercury from flowing outside of the process loop shielding in the service bay. The filter’s desired properties are to prevent the passage of liquid mercury, provide minimal resistance to helium flow, resist radiation, operate for the lifetime of the target, be replaceable, and have a reliable construction. Testing concluded that the Mott Corporation POU-10-S series of filters provided the best performance available. The filters could stop most liquid mercury passage while allowing helium passage at nominal pressures above the GLS in standard conditions. This result has several implications for the design of the GLS vent system.

Abstract:
The operation of a gas turbine, by its basic design, requires it to ingest enormous quantities of air. Even in relatively clean environments, a gas turbine may ingest hundreds of pounds of foreign matter each year of various sizes. Also, the more advanced the turbine design, the more sensitive it is to the quality of the air ingested. Filtration is applied to the inlet air to provide protection against the effects of contaminated air. Filters used with gas turbines are designed to remove a specified amount of particular contaminants. One type of filter is the high efficiency filter. These are often installed in order to capture particles less than ten microns. These filters are sometimes susceptible to water penetration. If the filter is not designed to remove water, then water can absorb soluble contaminants and carry them through the filter into the inlet of the gas turbine. In the case where harmful contaminants travel through the filter with the water, this can be potentially damaging to the gas turbine. For example, salt is soluble and can lead to hot corrosion in the turbine section. If water is allowed to reach the high efficiency filters then the water may carry contaminants through the gas turbine. In order to mitigate this phenomenon, many filter systems have mist removal systems. Even with a good mist removal system, humidity can reach the high efficiency filters. As humid air flows past the high efficiency filters, the decrease in air pressure can lead to water condensing on the filters. A procedure is presented in this paper which shows that filters that have been fully or near fully loaded with contaminants may experience condensation in an environment with high humidity. This paper reviews a thermodynamic analysis that is used to determine the conditions that must be met in order to experience this phenomenon. The possible occurrence of condensation further demonstrates the criticality of replacing inlet filters as soon as the filter pressure loss shows an upward trend.

Abstract:
The cylindrical filters presently used in &lt;1000 m2 drip irrigation systems are frequently clogged, increasing pressure loss and lowering the flow rate through the filters. This work investigates the mechanisms for this clogging and proposes an alternative filtration design that would enable both more reliable and lower maintenance filtering. This proposed system is compatible with existing drip irrigation systems and could be made inexpensively with plastic bottle manufacturing equipment. To compare the proposed design to off-the-shelf options, a drip irrigation test setup was built to measure the pressure loss across different filters as particles accumulated. These experiments confirmed that pleated cartridge filters, with high effective surface area, incurred lower pressure losses than cylindrical filters. These tests revealed that the greatest reason for clogged performance was that filtered particles (not the cartridge filter itself) eventually restricted the flow of water through the system. This inspired the redesign of the filter housing such that the housing extended far below the filter, providing a catch basin away from the filter for the particles to settle. Fixing the filter independently of the bottom casing significantly improved the overall performance of the filtration system, reduced the maintenance requirement necessary from the user, and would enable inexpensive manufacturing via blow molding. This paper experimentally demonstrates that the cartridge filter inside the redesigned housing can filter out over 2 kg of sand while maintaining less than a .03 bar pressure drop across the filter at a flow rate of 25 l/s.

Abstract:
It has been found that binary phase only filters made of real-world scenes are sensitive to changes in the target illumination angle. The illumination angle dependence for several cases will be measured, and a novel technique for reducing this illumination angle sensitivity will be introduced. A filter composed of sections of several filters is used to reduce scene illumination dependence. These filters are made with the target illuminated from different angles, and the resultant filter is more tolerant to changes in target illumination. The filter construction technique as well as results obtained when such a filter is used will be discussed.

Abstract:
We built a collector to filter interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) larger than 5 µm from the clean air at the Amundsen Scott South Pole station. Our sampling strategy used long duration, continuous dry filtering of near-surface air in place of short duration, high-speed impact collection on flags flown in the stratosphere. We filtered ~107 m³ of clean Antarctic air through 20 cm diameter, 3 µm filters coupled to a suction blower of modest power consumption (5–6 kW). Our collector ran continuously for 2 years and yielded 41 filters for analyses. Based on stratospheric concentrations, we predicted that each month’s collection would provide 300–900 IDPs for analysis. We identified 19 extraterrestrial (ET) particles on the 66 cm² of filter examined, which represented ~0.5% of the exposed filter surfaces. The 11 ET particles larger than 5 µm yield about a fifth of the expected flux based on &gt;5 µm stratospheric ET particle flux. Of the 19 ET particles identified, four were chondritic porous IDPs, seven were FeNiS beads, two were FeNi grains, and six were chondritic material with FeNiS components. Most were &lt;10 µm in diameter and none were cluster particles. Additionally, a carbon-rich candidate particle was found to have a small ¹⁵N isotopic enrichment, supporting an ET origin. Many other candidate grains, including chondritic glasses and C-rich particles with Mg and Si and FeS grains, require further analysis to determine if they are ET. The vast majority of exposed filter surfaces remain to be examined.
