In eastern Australia, the changing patterns of mangrove distribution are commonly associated with upslope encroachment into saltmarsh. This phenomenon could be related to climate change (e.g., change in precipitation, CO2 concentrations and sea-levels), as the result of human-induced changes in the wetlands and surrounding landscape or due to the interactions among these factors. This thesis investigated relationships between rainfall, land use, and landscape structure of selected wetlands in northern Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia, from 1972 to 2004 over multiple temporal and spatial scal

The hydrologic response of a small, steep and forested watershed is investigated with the use of a simplified watershed model. The watershed model utilises the linear storage routing technique and treats the runoff as fast and slow. The separation of the rainfall input to each of the components of runoff is achieved with the use of a non-linear exponential equation (Eq. 3.1). Hourly rainfall data averaged from five raingauges and hourly streamflow are used as input to the model. The model is found to perform well.
