Abstract:
This research addresses for the first time psychobiography of Hans Christian Andersen, from his graphic work. The methodology is also unpublished in this type of study: panofskyano contextual analysis and psychoanalytic hermeneutical. The results have thrown us through the meaning given to the six categories elaborated ad hoc: Oedipus complex, Eros, Thanatos, Repression, Sublimation and Fantasy, that our author had a sel-centered personality and egotistical and cyclothymic affectivity. It has been concluded that there is in hi an obsessive omnipresence of death, loving frustration, and “fearful servility” as a mediator between his traumatic reality and his artistic work. All his work is an eminent “return of the repressed” with a “repeated use of the anthropomorphization”.There is a preamble of surrealism. It appears the catatimia of keepsake and the fantastic pseudologia as elements that allow Andersen “fabulate” and counterbalance the inferiority complex which experiences i their social relations.

Abstract:
The overarching focus of the portfolio of publications I have submitted for the PhD by Research Publications is the treatment of place - in particular the mapping and problematisation of nation space - in Selma Lagerlöfs and Hans Christian Andersen's novel- and travel-writing. Through a consideration of selected texts it is argued that manifestations of mobility, modernity and hybridity contribute centrally to the articulation of place in the works of both writers. It is further argued that the majority of the texts themselves display hybrid features, challenging the boundary between 'fictional' novel-writing and 'factual' travel-writing and combining a commitment to the 'real' with a recurring interest in the imagined.

The survey A methodological theoretical pathway for reading “The tinderbox” and “The snow queen” by Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875), based on the concept of language understood as a process of human interaction and the act of reading, as a complex activity, involving not only grammatical and semantic aspects, but pragmatic and dialogic ones. This theoretical concept was adopted since it agrees with the goals of this investigation: 1) to analyze the textual and thematic structure of two H. C. Andersen’s tales, “The tinderbox” and “The snow queen”, selected from the corpus of his work, noticing similarities regarding the theme, subject, message; plot; time, space and place; the narrator and narrative focus and the characters; 2) to define criteria for the choice of a book or a short story from children's literature; 3) suggest activities that may contribute to the instruction of children’s literature in classrooms. The focus of the study was defined in relation to the narrative/classic text of children's literature. The activities developed undertaken were of bibliographic nature and accompanied the entire process of investigation. Finally, the fact of reading is one of the major problems experienced by school and by society as a whole, such as those relating to functional illiteracy, non-formation of the reader and lack of understanding of literary texts, justifies a research that will contribute to overcoming the problems experienced by school, when it comes to reading.

Abstract:
The essay is devoted to study of the Hans Christian Andersen?s fairy tales that were dramatized for presentation by Czech children theatre groups. It`s first part deals with the analysis of Andersen's fairy tale literary output, with regard to his narrative style and his contribution to the genre of fairy tale. Second part of the work analyzes the Swineherd story in terms of qualities, which it offers to children?s theater, and compares it with other stories dramatized for the same purpose. The final part discusses six dramatizations of Swineherd, which were staged with children groups, especially in terms of how to convert a literary narrator in theatrical form, and the influence of the nature of such conversion on the structure of the production and its characters. In respect to each of the scripts, the essay studies the extent to which their authors managed to preserve the genre and style of the original and what influence any shifts had on the transmission of the Swineherd `s message.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to explore the correlation of the children’s narratives with creativity and self-knowledge. The main goals are focused on checking whether the use of fairy tales’ narrative enhance creativity and self-knowledge; clearing up if the self-knowledge process could in turn facilitate the creative process in professional activities; showing the chance of further use of creative activators with narratives, and this way finding out which ones better correlate with the chosen fairy tales. The exploratory research consists of three stages – the first stage comes from onsite meetings held in 2010, with professionals responsible for training and professional qualification of young people in a Non-Governmental Organization in São Paulo (NGO); the second step is the result of studies by the researcher in 2013; and the third stage is based on semi-structured interviews in 2014 with the same participants of the onsite meetings held nearly forty two months before. So, it can be concluded that it is possible to make use of the children’s narratives in order to widen the level of creativity as well as self-knowledge. Referring to the importance of children’s narrative, particularly for creativity, the slogan “once upon a time” was the fundamental clue for this verification, as it is burdened with infinite possibilities to access the imagination. Now, the importance of this narrative, particularly for self-knowledge, the demonstration permeates the questions related to the structure. By understanding the invariants’ sequence have been present throughout the children’s narrative, it is possible to make a direct correlation with the personal consciousness in relation to life stages. Also, it was possible to find out that seven creative activators specifically can be used at the same time to four Hans Christian Andersen narratives, in a quite beneficial way, optimizing its use as a tool for self-knowledge and also stimulating the creativity. Therefore, through the surveys could be verified that professionals who focus and invest in their self-knowledge get more self-confident and, as a consequence, more creative ones.

The research The ugly duckling ' and The nightingale and the emperor of China ', by Hans Christian Andersen: the children literature in the 4th class, elementary school is ruled in the conception of understanding language as a process of human interaction and the reading, as a complex activity, involving aspects not only semantic, but cultural, ideological, philosophical and phonetic. These theoretical conceptions were adopted by two reasons: for being in agreement with what is proposed in the Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais de Língua Portuguesa (2001) and with the objectives of the investigation: 1) to guide the teachers, whom will participate of the research, how to work with the stories of H.C. Andersen in 4th grade the elementary school; 2) to notice if the teacher works with The ugly duckling and The nightingale and the emperor of China and how they develope activities with these fairy tales; 3) to plan and to guide a reading work and production of texts which refers to them and 4) to identify, through a questionnaire, the contributions of this work in related to changing in a pedagogic practice which includes the work with children literatur in classroom. The focus of the study was coming up in relation to: narrative text, classics of the children literature, Hans Christian Andersen and the stories: The ugly duckling and The nightingale and the emperor of China. The research activities were defined by the bibliographical reading and for the field research developed in a public school in Presidente Prudente-SP. The option for the stories happened mainly because: The ugly duckling is one of the most well-known stories by H. C. Andersen by Brazilian children and The nightingale and the emperor of China because takes part of the collection Literatura em minha Casa and it is not wellknown as The ugly duckling by the Brazilian children.

Abstract: The research “The ugly duckling ' and ‘The nightingale and the emperor of China ', by Hans Christian Andersen: the children literature in the 4th class, elementary school” is ruled in the conception of understanding language as a process of human interaction and the reading, as a complex activity, involving aspects not only semantic, but cultural, ideological, philosophical and phonetic. The focus of the study was coming up in relation to: narrative text, classics of the children literature, Hans Christian Andersen and the stories: The ugly duckling” and “The nightingale and the emperor of China.” The research activities were defined by the bibliographical reading and for the field research developed in a public school in Presidente Prudente-SP. The option for the stories happened mainly because: “The ugly duckling” is one of the most well-known stories by H. C. Andersen by Brazilian children and “The nightingale and the emperor of China” because takes part of the collection Literatura em minha Casa and it is not wellknown as “The ugly duckling” by the Brazilian children.

Abstract:

Abstract:
According to Lewis Seifert, “Fairy tales are obsessed with femininity … These narratives are concerned above all else with defining what makes women different from men and, more precisely, what is and is not acceptable feminine behaviour” (1996: 175). This study, then, will demonstrate how certain patriarchal ideas associated with fairy tales are disseminated when fairy tale elements are reworked in film, visual art and the novel. The aim of this project, more specifically, is to show how certain stereotypical representations of women endure in works that could be read as feminist appropriations of Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘The Little Mermaid’. Stereotypical representations of women are numerous and may include: depicting females as fitting neatly into what is often called the virgin/whore or Madonna/whore binary opposition; depicting women as being caring and kind, but also passive, submissive and weak; and depicting older women as being sexually unattractive and evil (Goodwin and Fiske 2001:358; Sullivan 2010: 4). It must be said that the list of stereotypes relating to women given here is far from exhaustive.

Abstract:
The project Contos Ilustrados de H.C. Andersen consists of the development of an illustrated children’s book for whose creation the topics of illustration and literature for children and youth were studied. The project was divided into two main objectives: the conceptual part, and the visual and creative component. At the conceptual level, the aim was to consolidate the theoretical foundations and to deepen the knowledge of the following themes: illustration, children’s literature, color psychology, and children’s visual development. At the level of the visual and creative component, the aim was to systematize, through the theoretical framework, a global image of the illustration, studying the factors that influenced what is happening today in this area. In practical terms, artistic and technical skills have been developed in the field of illustration for this age group, resulting from the study of and experimentation with different artistic techniques at the manual and digital level, as well as composition, color theory, character design and volumetry. In the edition of the illustrated book - the final product of this project - the aim was to relate the text to the illustration (both in terms of layout and semantically) in order to achieve harmony and dynamism, amplifying the expressiveness of the text. Summing up, the whole practical process, from planning to the final result, was quite time-consuming and required a great deal of research, but was still essential for the deepening of my knowledge in the respective area. The theoretical part allowed me to collect information that became useful, for developing the illustration process.

Text in English with summaries in English and Afrikaans
There are certain influences from the eighteenth and nineteenth century English and German romantic Zeitgeist that can be discerned in Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales. The role of the imagination stands out as a particularly dominant notion of the romantic period as opposed to the emphasis on reason during the Enlightenment. It is this romantic influence that Andersen’s tales especially exemplify. For him the imagination is transcendent – one can overcome the mystery and hardship of an earthly existence by recasting situations imaginatively and one can even be elevated to a higher, spiritual realm by its power. The transcendent power of the imagination is best understood by viewing it through the lens of negative capability, a concept put forward by romantic poet, John Keats. The concept implies an “imaginative openness” to what is, which allows one to tolerate life’s uncertainties and the inexplicable suffering that forms part of one’s earthly existence by using the imagination to open up new potential within trying circumstances. In selected fairy tales, Andersen’s child protagonists transcend their circumstances by the power of their imagination. In other tales, nature is instrumental in this imaginative transcendence. The natural world conveys spiritual truths and has a moralising influence on the characters, bringing them closer to the Ultimate Creator. This follows the philosophy of German Naturphilosophie, as well as that of English romantics like Coleridge and Wordsworth, for whom nature functions as a portal to the spiritual world. The concept of the “sublime” underpins this philosophy. If nature is viewed through an imaginative, instead of an empirical lens, it becomes the means by which the temporal world can be transcended. It is a message of hope and as such is in keeping with Andersen’s self professed calling as visionary who uses his art to uplift mankind. In this he is the ultimate romantic hero or outsider who, while standing on the periphery of society, observes its shortcomings and feels called upon to show the way to a better world.

Andersen''s fairy tales have been attractive to readers since he published his first collection in 1835. They have been translated worldwide and considered as a model of the modern fantasy. Compared with the traditional folktales of the Brothers Grimm and Perrault, Andersen''s tales obviously incorporated more personal and sentimental qualities. He creates voices for children, rewrites the traditional tales by imbuing his experiences, and expresses his search for the unity of the self. This thesis applies Schiller''s theory of the naïve and sentimental poet to analyze Andersen’s tales and defines him as a romanticist and sentimental poet according to the qualities that he shows in his tales. This thesis is divided into five chapters. In Chapter I, children in the nineteenth century, Andersen''s background, and the development of Romanticism are introduced. I also introduce Schiller''s theory and definition of the sentimental and naive poet in this section. In Chapter II, through the examination and comparison with the other romanticists'' qualities, Andersen''s romantic self can be observed. He expressed his search for an unification of self. The problems of Andersen''s identity formation are the main issues in this chapter. Then, according to Schiller''s theory, I regard Andersen as a romanticist and a sentimental writer in Chapter III. His creativity in plots, characters, tones and settings made him become a "creator" in the history of children''s literature. In Chapter IV, as a sentimental and romantic artist, Andersen shows his great respect for majestic nature and its great power. I discuss the concept of nature in Romanticism and Schiller''s definition of the sublime that can help me examine Andersen''s tales more closely. Then, I explain how Andersen, who ordinarily possesses the sentimental romantic qualities arrives at the expression of the sublime emotion in his tales when dealing with the theme of nature. Chapter V is my conclusion.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to unearth the connection between the memories of the marvellous tales of the Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen with a modern day voice which revisits that very same mythical universe. Ana Saldanha is the consciousness, the voice that transports and refreshes themes and values already revealed a long time ago. With a new kaleidoscopic outcome, the author’s creative imagination filters characters gifted with an unusual human consistency, spaces, atmospheres, themes and values. However, despite being soaked with influences from the past, she portrays modernism by conveying a reality so authentic that teenagers easily identify with. The uniqueness of her narrative is discovered not only in what she says and suggests but also in the way she carries it out. Through her application of colloquial, appealing, vivacious and spontaneous language she captures teenagers – her main audience – participation and stimulates their cooperation. When crossing the threshold into the imaginary world created by the text, they dive into an often witty and amusing universe of affections and intense human relationships. With this amalgamation between past and present, memory and innovation are woven together like an array of possible interpretations as far as themes, imagery and symbolism are concerned. This works aims to reveal how Ana Saldanha’s writing endorses children’s growth and on a whole, her writing guides and contributes to their development and awareness of life’s diversification, personal interaction with others and a conscious integration in society. Endeavouring in this way to help build and enrich them as responsible members of society.

Abstract:
(in English): The diploma thesis deals with the specific conception of body and corporeality in fairy tales, especially with morbid elements which are often reflected as non-fairy tale. The fairy tales of Karel Jaromír Erben, Hans Christian Andersen and Oscar Wilde are the main focus. The thesis also introduces the theory of the Swiss scholar Max Lüthi formulated in The European Folktale: Form and Nature into the Czech context. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical section provides a complex explication of Max Lüthi's theory of the fairy tale. It examines the main terms that Luthi defined for the fairy tale: One-dimensionality, Depthlessness, Abstract Style, Isolation and Universal Interconnection, Sublimation and All-Inclusiveness. Then the frame of this theory is extended into the field of the authorial fairy tale. The diploma thesis then sums up the differences and the points of contact between those two subgenres using The Story of the Eldest Princess as an example. The practical part focuses on relevant strategies of handling the body and corporeality in fairy tales. The last chapter deals with techniques of breaking the surface of the fairy tale characters' bodies, with internal destruction of the body and with the elements in between. All is...

Abstract:
Vycházely nejprve samostatně a poté v celých sbírkách.

Abstract:
The present work named “Traditional illustrated tale: A contribution” intends to reflect about the legacy of tales in Illustration and oral tradition, carrying out an illustration project. The investigation began in the origins of tale to contextualize its cultural roots and the persistence of certain narratives over the ages. With the famous collections of the brothers Grimm in the beginning of century XIX, traditional tales where recognized for their historical value as a reflection of people’s identity. This nationalist character associated to the Romantic Movement, appealed to several authors that collected tales in their countries. With the turn of the century there is a golden age in children's book illustrations and many authors turn to traditional tales has a great source with creative potential. The appeal of this illustrated books it´s in the diversity of stories and fantastical elements that bring to live the imagination of children and adults alike. I join this book illustration tradition with my practical work, by choosing a Portuguese traditional tale. This choice had in mind the disclosure of the Portuguese oral tradition unowned to me. Regarding the tale, the theoretical work consists of a systematization of research on the traditional tale and the contributions of the artists who illustrated it. There is also the theoretical foundation that accompanies the practical work, the influences, justification of stylistic options and artistic movements. The last part of the work is dedicated to the illustration project. I describe all the experience in a report of the process, reflecting about the difficulties, the learning and considerations on the illustration experiment. I present the different fases of the process from the sketches to the exploration of materials and their final result in the form of a model. Theory and practice complement each other to establish my course throughout this year of research and work and from which results the present dissertation

Abstract In 2005 , the whole world was celebrating enthusiastically the 200th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday. Purified for more than two centuries, the fairy tales Andersen created turn out to be more refined. In addition, those tales deeply touch every reader’s heart as a form of art. That’s to say, every reader could find his own ugly duckling. As for the Chinese translation of Andersen’s tales, it has been almost one hundred years since Chou first translated The Emperor’s New Clothes. Although Andersen, who loved traveling a lot, had never been to Chinese world, Chinese readers are quite familiar with Andersen. The Chinese images of Andersen are changing all the time in order to adapt himself to the historical circumstances --- from ‘an eternal child’ to ‘an old bungler writing in the garden’ , then ‘a great realistic writer’ and even ‘the Prometheus of children’s literature’. Beyond the turmoil, Andersen and his fairy tales have always been the target on which readers, translators, commentators put their focus. Translators are rebels. Under the process of translating the source language texts into the target language texts, the literal, literary, and cultural transformations have a great influence on the translators’ point of views in representing Andersen’s tales. Even with high constancy, the personal styles of the translators are not invisible. In this thesis, five newly-published Chinese versions of Andersen’s fairy tales are under comparison in three aspects: literalness, literature, and culture. Based on the concept that translators are active instead of passive, the literal comparison is mainly about the individual variations with a view to enhancing the acceptability of the target language texts; the literary comparison is mainly about the rhetorical skills with which the translators make up the literary atmosphere, and the cultural comparison puts the target language texts in the range of cultural environment on the criterion of domesticating and foreignizing. In sum, there are a thousand Andersens in a thousand translators’ eyes. Key words: children’s literature, translation, Andersen’s fairy tales, translational intervention, domesticate, foreignize

Tong-Hua--fairy tales, also known as magic tales or wonderland tales, are as ancient as human imagination and one of the oldest genres of western literature. Fairy tales were originally folklores, survived orally through word-of-mouth until the German brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm collected and published the lores in the form of written words in 1812. Hans Christian Andersen then adapted and created his own modern fairy tales in 1835, which turned a new leaf for the genre. Fairy tales also have an important part in fantasy literature, which developed substantially in the 20th century. Much obliged to today's film and entertainment industries, fairy tales such as Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland are widely adopted in the movies, TV series, stage drama, and even on-line games. They have major influence on popular culture, as well as various fields of art. In this study, text analysis method was used for The Little Mermaid, one of Andersen's fairy tales, to explore elements of imagery, story plot, characters and characteristics, creative implications, and forms of illustration. The results of the study are compiled and summarized, along with stylistic considerations of The Little Mermaid, for applications in the author's work.
