Abstract:
Lea Anderson is one of the leading choreographers to have emerged over the past decade, her most characteristic work having been with the all-female group she co-founded, the Cholmondeleys, and its all-male counterpart, the Featherstonehaughs. This article explores the distinctively intertextual elements in Lea Anderson's work – elements which, the authors suggest, make it at once accessible, distinctive, and distinctively postmodern. Sherril Dodds addressed the relationships between postmodernism and popular culture in Anderson's work, with particular focus on the television image and the dance image, in her MA dissertation for the Department of Dance Studies at the University of Surrey, where she is currently a research student. Her co-author, Janet Adshead-Lansdale, is Head of Department at Surrey, and has also edited Dance Analysis: Theory and Practice (1988) and co-edited Dance History: an Introduction (1994).

Abstract:

Abstract:
African-American dancer, singer, comedian Eddie Anderson pursued an entertainment career in California, his opportunities limited by Jim Crow-era racism in Hollywood but also shaped opportunities in night clubs and cabarets that catered to both black and white patrons. Winning an audition for a one-time role on Benny’s radio show, Anderson’s inimitable gravelly voice spurred Benny to create a full time part, the character of Rochester Van Jones, Jack’s butler and valet, in late 1937. Although initially hampered by stereotyped minstrel-show dialogue and character habits, Rochester soon became renowned by both white and black listeners for his ability to criticize the “Boss” in impertinent manner. Virtually co-starred in three films with Benny that were highly successful at the box office, commenters in the black press in 1940 hoped that Rochester offered “a new day” in improved race relations.

Perhaps more than any author, Stallings exemplified the multimedia and collaborative nature of World War I writing in America. Following his bitter anti-war novel Plumes, Stallings co-authored the popular play What Price Glory with Maxwell Anderson, which led to Stallings’s involvement in The Big Parade—one of the most lucrative films of the silent era—and a film adaptation of What Price Glory As well as his diversity of representational forms, Stallings’s war writing was marked by an increasingly positive attitude to warfare, which emerged in his later short stories and his World War I history, The Doughboys.

President Richard Nixon barred his staff from talking to Drew Pearson, while the columnist’s own staff thought he was being too easy on Nixon. Aging and in ill health, Pearson had mellowed but could not afford to stop working—although he began sharing a byline with Jack Anderson. Rather than retire, Pearson bought his newspaper syndicate and sought to buy a radio station. While he still earned a great deal, he needed to pay staff salaries and maintain his revenue-losing farms in Maryland. What saved him from financial disaster were lucrative book contracts and the Supreme Court’s ruling in New York Times Co. v. Sullivan that made it harder for public officials to win libel suits. Yet when he died in 1969, his financial estate was in disarray.

V. T. Perchyonok and Kellie L. Tuck of Monash University found (Tetrahedron Lett. 2008, 49, 4777) that a concentrated solution of Bu4NCl and H3PO2 in water effected free radical reductions and cyclizations. Stéphane G. Ouellet of Merck Frosst demonstrated (Tetrahedron Lett. 2008, 49, 6707) that an oxazoline such as 3 could be converted to the alcohol 4 by acylation followed by reduction. Elizabeth R. Burkhardt of BASF developed (Tetrahedron Lett. 2008, 49, 5152) a protocol for scalable reductive amination using an easily metered liquid pyridine-borane complex. Mohammad Movassaghi of MIT devised (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2008, 47, 8909) a strategy for conversion of an allylic carbonate 8 by way of the allylic diazene to the terminal alkene 9. Philippe Compain of the Université d’Orleans uncovered (J. Org. Chem. 2008, 73, 8647) a practical procedure for oxidizing an inexpensive aldose such as 10 to the amide 12, a valuable chiral pool starting material. Karl A. Scheidt of Northwestern University extended (Organic Lett. 2008, 10, 4331) activated MnO2 oxidation to saturated aldehydes such as 13, leading to the ester 15. Tohru Fukuyama of the University of Tokyo showed (Organic Lett. 2008, 10, 2259) that halides such as 16 could be oxidized to the oxime 18 with the reagent 17. The product oximes are readily dehydrated to the corresponding nitriles. Chutima Kuhakarn of Mahidol University devised (Synthesis 2008, 2045) a simple protocol for the oxidation of a primary amine such as 19 to the nitrile 20 . Nasser Iranpoor and Habib Firouzabadi of Shiraz University developed (J. Org. Chem. 2008, 73, 4882) the reagent 22 for Mitsunobu coupling. The stereochemical course of this reaction with simple acyclic secondary alcohols such as 21 was not reported. Salvatore D. Lepore of Florida Atlantic University optimized (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2008, 47, 7511) the quisylate 24 for the displacement with retention to give the azide 25. Hideki Yorimitsu and Koichiro Oshima of Kyoto University optimized (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008, 130, 11276) a Co catalyst for the conversion of a secondary halide such as 26 to the terminal alkene 27 . Base-mediated elimination gave primarily the internal alkene.

The social, relational, and affective dynamics are receiving more and more attention in the study of learning processes, as cognitive, affective, and emotional dimensions of learning seem to be closely related. This kind of co-origination, borne out in the context of neurosciences, artificial intelligence, cognitive psychology, and education, has also been recognized in the field of Web-based learning. The research framework of computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) has emphasized the role that a well-established social dimension plays in collaborative learning and groupbased working within communities of learners. According to the socioconstructivist model, learning always implies a social dialogical process where individuals are mutually engaged in the construction and sharing of new knowledge (Scardamalia & Bereiter, 1994; Wenger, 1998). Pedagogical approaches based on these assumptions combine the advantages of a learning strategy that promotes deeper level learning, critical thinking, and shared understanding with those related to the development of social and communication skills (Garrison & Anderson, 2003).

Abstract:
In the knowledge-based economy, the value of products and services largely depends on the knowledge intangibles they embed (Drucker, 1993). The success of firms is increasingly becoming linked to the intellectual capital they are able to accumulate and re-invest in their markets (Davenport & Prusak, 1998; Nahapiet & Ghoshal, 1998; Sullivan, 1998). In this age of knowledge-based business, it is incumbent upon firms to pay increasing attention to the development of customer knowledge (Balasubramanian et al., 1998; Sawhney & Kotler, 1999). However, researchers in marketing have generally assumed that knowledge creation happens only within the firm’s boundaries or, at the most, within the strategic alliances among firms. We argue that in the knowledge economy we need to move beyond this perspective of the firm as the knowledge creator that learns about customers and creates value for them, to a perspective of the firm as a co-creator of knowledge that learns and creates value with its customers. As already argued only in service marketing literature, customers are a vital source of knowledge and hence competitive advantage. The cooperation with them gives firms the opportunity to renew the source of their competitive advantage constantly. This is significant in a business landscape where unique and lasting competitive advantages are increasingly rare. Through co-operation with their customers, firms can better anticipate market changes (Anderson & Narus, 1991; Nonaka & Takeuchi, 1995), catalyze their innovation processes (von Hippel, 1982, 1986, 1994), and better respond to latent customer needs (Leonard & Rayport, 1997).

Abstract:
Abstract Deliquescent salts have high water vapor adsorption capacity, but they dissolve in water by forming crystalline hydrates. That restricts their use in different water vapor adsorption applications. However, this limitation can be overcome by incorporating deliquescent salts within a polymer matrix which will keep the salt solution in place. Furthermore, if the polymer matrix used is also capable of adsorbing water vapor, it will further improve the overall performance of desiccant system. Therefore, in this work, we are proposing the synthesis and use of a highly effective new solid polymer desiccant material, i.e. superporous hydrogel (SPHs) of poly(sodium acrylate-co-acrylic acid (P(SA-co-AA)), and subsequently its composite with deliquescent salt, i.e. calcium chloride (CaCl2), to adsorb water vapors from humid air without the dissolution of the salt in the adsorbed water. Parental PAA-SPHs matrix alone exhibited an adsorption capacity of 1.02 gw/gads which increased to 3.35 gw/gads after incorporating CaCl2 salt in the polymer matrix. Both materials exhibited type-III adsorption isotherm and the experimental isotherm data fitted to the Guggenheim, Anderson and Boer (GAB) isotherm model. However, the adsorption kinetics followed linear driving force model which suggested that this extremely high adsorption capacity was due to the diffusion of water molecules into the interconnected pores of SPHs via capillary channels followed by the attachment of adsorbed water molecules to the CaCl2 salt present in the polymer matrix. Furthermore, the adsorbents were used successively for six cycles of adsorption with a very little loss in adsorption capacity. Therefore, the proposed polymer desiccant material overcomes the problem of dissolution of deliquescent salts and opens the doors for a new class of highly effective solid desiccant material.
