Subject area Launch strategies, marketing techniques and data analytics procedure adopted by a firm before launching a new product. Study level/applicability Academic students and management trainees who want to learn the methodology adopted by firms with respect to strategic management and marketing for launching a new product in Indian market. Case overview Launch plan for Roulette, a premium segment brandy manufactured by John Distilleries Private Limited, has to be designed for Karnataka, Pondicherry and Andhra Pradesh markets in India by the Brand Manager Mr Pundlik Kalburgi. Competitors and target market share needs to be identified for all the three markets. Potential outlets, target outlets, channel-wise sales contribution, depot-wise sales contribution and size of the packs to be produced need to be identified for Karnataka market. These identifications need to be submitted to the chairman of the company and other department heads to implement the launch. Expected learning outcomes Pareto rule (80/20 rule) application for cost-efficient launch strategy; segmentation and identification of competitors; procedure to identify potential of the launch product and market share that can be targeted; and understanding the complete functioning of alcoholic beverage industry in Indian markets (with special reference to Karnataka) and analysing the market data to build an entire launch plan; 4.1 Identifying channel-wise potential and target outlets for the launch product; 4.2 Identifying potential and target depots and number of outlets under each of the depots; 4.3 How pack size of launching product to be manufactured is decided upon. Abstract:
Poultry farming is the natural practice of raising turkeys, chickens, ducks, or geese. The birds are raised for domestic or commercial use, for meat, eggs, and feathers. Chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, ostriches and emus are main types of poultry farms. This paper encounters the problems of poultry formers and their opinions on various issues relating to production and marketing of poultry products. Based on available imperial evidence, the paper includes that it is production and marketing level to continue to promote poultry to contribute towards poultry farm owners and livelihood support but concerted efforts must bemade to find organizational solutions to minimize public health risks and government provide appropriate extension support on issues like disease prevention, predation, improving hatchability, etc,. Unfortunately most government extension programs in the developing countries are not addressing the needs of poor advice to poultry farmers. Poultry is one of the fastest growing fragments of the agricultural sector in India. The reasons behind the fast growth of the segment are growth in income level of the people, a growing urban population and falling real poultry prices. On the other hand increased investments in breeding,hatching, processing has also contributed significantly towards the growth of the industry. Total egg production in India in 2005 was 46 billion. The six southern states - Andhra Pradesh, Talangana, TamilNadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Punjab are the major producing centers.

Abstract:
Background: Konaseema region of Andhra Pradesh is little different from other area as it is the delta of Godavari river with agriculture and aqua main source of income to the people. This area has mainly rural establishment and no study has been conducted on children to know the pattern of acute poisoning and treatment outcome. Present study has been designed with an aim to study of the pattern of acute poisoning and treatment out come in Konaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.Methods: In present study all the children from birth to 16 years of age who has been admitted in emergency department were recruited. Patients with snake bite, scorpion bites, unknown bites, idiosyncratic reaction to prescribed drugs, food poisoning were excluded from this study. Information were obtained from mother of the patients in most of the cases but father or other guardian were also interview if mother was not available. A pre-designed questionnaire was used for collection of data. This contains demography data of the patient, profile of poisoning, symptoms of the patient presenting with and the outcome of the treatment.Results: Insecticide and pesticides poisoning patients were 122 but of that 60 were organophosphorus, 30 were organochlorines, 10 were carbamates, 20 were rat poisoning and two pts were having herbicides and fungicides poisoning. Fourteen patients were having poisoning by house hold things out of then, four having kerosene oil poisoning, 6 patients having turpentine oil poisoning, two patients with phenyl and rest two patients with KMnO4 poisoning.Conclusions: In Konaseema region pesticides, insecticides and rodenticides are used commonly in agricultural fields and easily available that is the reason for its poisoning in paediatric age group, so awareness about the proper handling of pesticides container and use is required to reduce the incidence.

Abstract:
Extension systems in India have played immense role in delivering the services to the farmers there by increasing the agricultural productivity. Agricultural officers (AO’s) working in the State Department of Agriculture had greater responsibilities on them to convey recent advancements to the farmers. The profile characteristics of the AOs shows how well they are equipped and can plan the activities that befit the farmers. The study was conducted in southern zone of Andhra Pradesh by considering 90 respondents. Data collection was done by structured questionnaire and personal interview method. The results revealed that majority of AOs stands at medium category with respect to variables like achievement motivation, perceived workload, morale, job involvement and attitude towards farmers. Whereas, characters like mass media exposure, interpersonal contact and self-reliance were at high category showing us the characters that need to be improved and can be used to our advantage for extension services delivery. Personal characters like age, gender, marital status, family size and type, rural-urban background, education and health were also studied and gave us the information on present status of the AO’s.

Abstract:
Aim: To determine the effect of local rice cultivars and inorganic nitrogen fertilizer on the incidence of stem borer, Scirpophaga incertulas (Walker); leaffolder, Cnephalocrocis medinalis (Guenee); and gall midge, Orseolia oryzae (Wood Mason) and on grain yield of rice. Study Design: A field experiment for two consecutive years was carried out in a split-plot arrangement in randomized block design with three replications. Place and duration of the study: Department of Entomology, Agricultural Research Station, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India during Kharif, 2013 and 2014. Methodology: The rice cultivars (NLR 20104, NLR 20106, NLR 3135 and NLR 33892) were attributed to experimental main plots and nitrogen levels (40, 80, 120, 160 and 200 kg ha-1) to the sub plots. Observations on incidence of stem borer, gall midge and leaf folder was recorded in randomly selected 10 hills per subplot in replication and percent incidence was calculated. Results: The pest incidence for the treatments with high N rate as 160 and 200 kg/ha was higher (31.43 & 43.86% stem borer, 9.23 & 13.59% leaffolder and 2.75 & 3.00% gall midge, respectively) than that for lower N rate i.e. 40 and 80 kg ha-1 (19.24 & 20.04% stem borer, 7.37 & 7.95% leaffolder and 1.42 & 1.93% gall midge, respectively). Different rice cultivars significantly influenced the leaffolder incidence but not the stem borer and gall midge incidence. The Highest leaffolder incidence (13.44%) was noticed in NLR 20104 cultivar which was followed by NLR 3135 cultivar with 9.64% leaffolder incidence. Gall midge and leaffolder incidence was not significantly influenced by the combined effect of rice cultivar and nitrogen levels; in contrast, interaction effect has a significant influence on stem borer incidence. Significantly lowest stem borer incidence (18.21%) was noticed with NLR 3135 rice cultivar treated with 40 N ha-1, which was statistically on par with the NLR 20106 rice cultivar treated with 40 kg N ha-1 (18.23%) and NLR 20104 rice cultivar treated with 40 kg N ha-1 (19.76%). Among the different cultivarscultivar, NLR 33892 cultivarhad produced significantly highest grain yield (5955 kg ha-1) may be for having higher physiological indices. The highest/optimum grain yield (5726 kg ha-1) produced by plots that received 120 kg N ha-1. Further increase in nitrogen level beyond 120 kg ha-1 did not significantly improve the grain yield. Optimal N rate was revealed to be 120 kg ha-1 for four rice cultivars for reducing the stem borer/leaffolder/gall midge incidence so as to minimize the cost of inputs for pest control measures and for achieving high grain yield. Conclusions: The incremental doses of nitrogen fertilizer significantly enhanced stem borer, leaffolder and gall midge infestation on rice, which further affects the grain yields.
