Tavares, Gabriela Tarouco.
Full textThe research proposes to think about the art that is done in the streets in their modes of creation and self - analysis, establishing a dialogue between different artists that occupy Rua da Praia, in the city of Porto Alegre - RS, with some knowledge about art today. Through interviews with live statues, independent bands and solo musicians, portrait painters and wandering poets, one seeks to understand how the artist perceives the street in relation to what I will call an Urban Gallery and the motives surrounding the choice of Street as stage our gallery. As a methodology and development principle for theoretical research, a cartography is created, assuming a research in movement, in which the researcher's path articulates knowledge. For the understanding of cartography and its investigation for data analysis, authors such as Félix Guattari, Gilles Deleuze, Suely Rolnik and Virginia Kastrup are used. As well as for the understanding of the street and the art that appropriates it, dialogue with Raquel Rolnik, Vera Pallamin, Paola Jacques, and artists: MárcioPetracco (Bluegrass Porto-alegrense), WelciAraújo, Abraham Ponce, Pablo Seearasta (Som Central) and musics Marcelo da Luz, Pedro Ourique, Jean Kartabil, Lester Borges this band Cartas naRua.At the end of the course, in addition to perceiving the issues surrounding the choice of the street as a stage, and the landscapes that are created, through the artists' speeches, we discuss the sociocultural relations that are crossed through the appropriation of urban spaces for the Art.

This dissertation investigates how the work of street performers is constituted in Porto Alegre/RS in order to analyze the meaning of art and work for them, as well as their work conditions and organized resistance. This work is grounded on the Critical Social Theory from Marx since it has its political content allied to the praxis of social transformation, as well as to base our work on the Marx's method as a mediation to analyze the dynamic reality of the capitalist society since it understands its particularities and contradictions due to the domination and exploration of work. In methodology, we opt by a qualitative research. We used an empirical analysis in which we made a semi-structured interview with seven (7) street performers in addition to observation and field diary. The data collection was made in different places (locus) of Porto Alegre. We intend, among the aims of this investigation, to provide data from the work of street performers to the Social Work, Art, and related areas. In order to show the world of the artistic work in Porto Alegre. We aim to use collected data as a complement for discussions and social mobilizations of street performances and general community. The research data will be available in 2017 on traditional and alternative way, such as dissertation defense, e-mail, CD-ROM, independent mini-documentary, 3th Festival of Street Performers in Porto Alegre, book writing, and political organizations that fight for the democratization of art. We highlight that the identification data and artists names collected are reserved in secrecy.

Full textThis study aims to understand the meaning of schooling for the young on the streets at the Porto Alegre Municipal School, maintained by the city of Porto Alegre/RS, in which are met, in addition to these young people, residents of the shelters and of communities away from the downtown area. For this, I used the qualitative methodology with ethnographic research approach that, by having a relationship with the educational area, is concerned about the educational processes. For this reason, I emphasize that I adopted some technical procedures of ethnographic research as participant observation and interviews, without losing sight the of the pedagogical dimension of the study.I conducted the research with young in homeless situation, teachers, employees and the teaching staff, both within that school environment, availing myself of the influences of the environment to understand phenomena contextually. This search for schooling and for the institutional space is, before to fight for a right that have been denied to them, to seek for mutual recognition actively participating in social life. The space in question, with its genuinely school character, can operate in the struggle for social recognition of the students. With its ideal standards out of the ones of the network which meets, opposing the heavier side of the balance. The school contributes to the basis for the own recognition of the individual while teaches/educates, provides students the perspective of a social citizen for which the knowledge gained in school, it makes sense.

This investigate examines the presence of the street food in the Brique da Redenção in Porto Alegre / RS - Brazil, especially regarding its practices, the possible inherent counterpoints in the activity, and its relationship with Tourism in Porto Alegre. The study uses qualitative and exploratory methodology in which we opted for the use of techniques related to those used by tourists to experience the place visited, during their travels, such as: walking, watching and semi-structured interviews with five sellers of this gastronomic genre. The analysis shows that in the Brique da Redenção there are a notoriously feminine and homelike activity, mostly with the goal of producing a food rich in flavor and quality. It was observed that, at least in the Brique da Redenção, the Street Food play key role regarding the Citizen Tourist, but the entrepreneurs do not consider their relationship to tourism.

Full textThis is a typological study of architecture of the present retail commerce of the city of Porto Alegre. The proposed theme defines the researched field according to a same functional connection. However, this field can be divided into specific programmatic, organizational and formal varieties, which interact in many ways with the existing urban morphology. This dissertation aims at surveying the main alternatives adopted by commercial architecture in Porto Alegre, as well as to systemize and to analyse it through typological criteria. The typological analysis is used as an instrument to specifically survey a series of architectural events - the retail commercial buildings -, and how they relate to urban morphology. This analysis allows us to see and to study the city as a physical artifact. This study includes a view of the emergence and development of different architectural typologies aimed at retail commerce in international architecture, establishing precedents for a typological classification in Porto Alegre. The methodological criteria employed in survey, classification and analysis of examples are described, and, fmally, the identified types are analysed and compared.

Full textThe research presented here seeks to question the theme, the conditions and ways of life of woman who lives in streets in Porto Alegre – RS. It aims to be a study of experiences and social conditions of female contingent, through a gender approach. Sought to contribute to the production of knowledge in the area of social work on the issue of the homeless population in gender perspective. Guided by critical dialectical method, which it is a theoretical framework that enables the approach to reality aggregating the historicity categories, contradiction, totality and mediation in order to understand the phenomenon, since these are categories inherent in the study. It is understood that little quantity existence of studies that address the relationship genre / street show how this aspect is neglected, in spite of the advances made in recent decades in the female approach in expanding public policies to face the rualização processes. It is important to note that the discussion on gender does not include only the woman, but within the limits of a master's research, with limited time for its development, it was decided to seek to unveil the aspects that are transverse to the woman - street binomial, especially the womans on the streets of Porto Alegre city.

A group is away from home and have fun in an artificial lake near the city center, the other resides in an urban Quilombo and has the street as an extension of your home, patio. Objective of the research is to understand the presence of these two groups on the street and the relationships between their networks of contacts and affections in such different places and with little presence of adults. It shows their ways of understanding the age phases that are living and how they are "framed" by the company, and besides their perceptions of the playing space. In this context, from the speech of boys and Girls, dynamic care, fights and affections are configured in both groups, showing how it relates gurizada peer in the street.
Full textThis dissertation starts with the tensions involved in the removal of the street market in downtown Porto Alegre/RS and its relocation to a popular mall. The “camelódromo”, as the building – which houses more than 800 stands of roughly four square meters – became known, was accomplished in record time thanks to a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the first of its kind in Porto Alegre and one of the first in Brazil. The dissertation relies on the ethnographic approach, based on a field insertion of more than three years, which allowed capturing the process in a diachronic perspective. The participant observation – plus other techniques such as interviews and surveys – had as its starting point a major group of vendors involved in the transition. This group, initially optimistic about the transition, was passed over in the race for the best spaces in the camelódromo, and reacted with a series of mobilizations. Several political institutions were called upon, such as the City Council, the Prosecutor, the City Hall, and the Participatory Budget, among others. This strategy proved itself ineffective, and resulted in the eviction of several defaulting tenants – including the main leader of the group – and the dissipation of the collective mobilization. However, the tensions didn’t cease, as the transition from the streets to the camelódromo was closely monitored by the company, which required a change in the commercial sensitivity, based on a pedagogization policy aimed to forge a new trader profile, essential to the economic success of the enterprise. New modalities of conflict arose from this strategy, because not all vendors reconverted themselves into the prototype designed by the PPP. The tensions around this process created a favorable environment for a research that tries to retrace ethnographically the connections between economics and politics, the objective and the subjective, the micro and the macro, the city and the citizens, the diversity of agents and agencies that characterize a given social and cultural setting.

Full textThe qualitative research carried out from 2006 until 2009 has originated the present thesis upon the routes of social street educators in Porto Alegre, State of Rio Grande do Sul. It takes as references the resentment memories of the city‟s visible and invisible, produced and felt by those city agents in distinct times of initiatives derived from assistance and educative public policies addressed to children and adolescents living in the streets. Registers and memory representations correspond to policies created by the municipal public power at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st one. The study aims to analyze the resentments carried day after day by these social street educators in their personal memories bags, and the contents that such resentments can reveal on their entrances and exits through the labyrinthine political routes in the city. In order to demonstrate those findings the Patrimonial Education was used as methodology aiming to bring some reflection and questioning about the relations and processes experienced by the subjects of research in their interlocution with the city, with public management instances and with service rendering instances at that time, within the municipality, in order to carry out those children and adolescents‟ education in particular. Some documental sources emerge from the sensitivity of the related memories, other than the written ones, consisting of objects and places implicit in the social street educators‟ daily task which reveal educators carrying resentment memories. Their routes originate some elements contributive to an updated discussion of the public policies adopted for the approaching and interaction with such contemporary urban phenomenon.

Full textThis dissertation presents the research developed in the course of Masters in Geography at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul with the homeless people of Porto Alegre city - RS/Brazil. The homeless, because they live in the urban space, without a home or shelter of their own, are people who have a totally different perspective of the space than domiciled people have. Even Geography, accustomed to the question of the territory as a central category, have difficulty to access such perception.. They are the urban inhabitants who have a weaker relationship with the space. But even without having any kind of ownership over the terrain, the homeless establish certain relations with space, since they have preferences for living and circulating in specific parts of the city. Nevertheless, these spaces are not of their free choice, but underwent spatial control of the government and social habits that relegate certain spaces where the homeless are allowed to occupy. Still, these occupations are ephemeral, because they are constantly evicted, maintaining a constant-traffic in urban areas in search of locations for their occupation. Are they thus establishing some kind of territory this way? This is the main problem that we bring to reflection in this work. Still, we ask: how do they see themselves in the urban space, how do they define their places to stay, how do they relate to their surroundings? To get these answers a weekly work was developed at the Boca de Rua newspaper- a newspaper exclusively written by homeless people of Porto Alegre - in a participant research, with follow ups and observations, as well as participation on different events related to the theme and application of questionnaire and interviews with the people in homeless situation. We will establish some relation and concepts about the process of spatialization / territorialization of the homeless in the city, analysing the invisible limits composed between self and other by symbolic relations of power, cultural and socially constructed and based in hegemonic values of the society. If the homeless people, in this enviroment, can form or not a kind of territory in the city when putting themselves together into the urban space by an orderly and deliberate way, even if transient and ephemeral, that is what we will respond at the end of this research. We did this investigation through analysis of the transition of that we call subspaces - marginalized and subutilized spaces on the city - to the paradoxical territory - that formed by the social imposition of marginalization in front of hegemonic values, and also as a contradiction to them, but also by it conditioned, in a relation of variation between the center and margin, insiders and outsiders, according to its temporality / spaciality.

Full textIn this paper I intend to analyze the meanings of the Samba School Carnival for the southern Brazil carnival participants, with a focus on socio-cultural organization of the party scenes. With ethnography from the carnival production in Porto Alegre and Uruguaiana for the parades of 2011, I intend to demonstrate how the material and symbolic transformations of these carnivals in recent years can be understood as arrangements of discourses and practices based on a process of building a carnival paradigmatic model, mobilized in a common rhetoric. Those are values, notions and concepts in a flowing design to an ideal carnival project: the spectacle carnival. It’s going to be examined what this project is, and how it was seen in two Samba Schools of hierarchically distinct divisions from Porto Alegre carnival, the first and third division respectively. The association of samba as a symbol of belonging to national identity Rio Grande do Sul can be demonstrated in two contrasting processes. In Uruguaiana, the possibility of regional differentiation is built on belongs to the symbols that denote the "Brazilianness" from different social strata of the party promoters, in contrast to neighboring and border countries. And in Porto Alegre, the construction of carnival culture moves away from regional symbols and is restricted to the carnival participants, a population defined portion symbolically related to the ethnic element that promotes the party, its black population. The divergent ideal models of Carnival production, one based on the purchase of materials and costumes and hiring labor from the center of the country, and the other based on the defense of local production, will give us important elements to consider in the identities production, in the spectacle rhetoric production criteria, the party legitimacy senses and the suggested carnival models.
