Abstract:
Abstract. Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) attracts significant research and development efforts from both the industry and academia, but rarely integrate massive 3D dataset’s interactions. The emergence of dedicated AR devices and powerful Software Development Kit (ARCore for android and ARKit for iOS) improves performance on mobile devices (Smartphones and tablets). This is aided by new sensor integration and advances in computer vision that fuels the development of MAR. In this paper, we propose a direct integration of massive 3D point clouds with semantics in a web-based marker-less mobile Augmented Reality (AR) application for real-time visualization. We specifically investigate challenges linked to point cloud data structure and semantic injection. Our solution consolidates some of the overarching principles of AR, of which pose estimation, registration and 3D tracking. The developed AR system is tested on mobile phones web-browsers providing clear insights on the performance of the system. Promising results highlight a number of frame per second varying between 27 and 60 for a real-time point budget of 4.3 million points. The point cloud tested is composed of 29 million points and shows how our indexation strategy permits the integration of massive point clouds aiming at the point budget. The results also gives research directions concerning the dependence and delay related to the quality of the network connection, and the battery consumption since portable sensors are used all the time.

Abstract:
Millions of smart devices are mushrooming in this digital environment to meet the difficulties posed by innovations and technological advancements in ubiquitous computing. All of these smart gadgets are exposed to everyday objects that are linked to the Internet. Web of Things is a term that defines how various objects are connected to the Internet and communicate with one another using web standards. The emergence of omnipresent systems makes human beings' jobs easier. People were able to live lavish existence in the most comfortable environment because of these inventions. Finally, everyone began to keep their valuables in accordance with their activities inside the house or at work, and they began to hide them under misplaced or lost belongings. Every house has a history of searching for keys, wallets, pen drives, and hand purses, which may be a time-consuming task, especially during times of high demand. A device model is presented to reduce this effort and save time by allowing lost objects to be tracked and traced out. The suggested work serves as a foundational notion for describing how to track items in a practical manner. This is a basic device model that describes how to track an object using an Android mobile device and a Wi-Fi connection with the Blynk app and GPS controllers.

Abstract:
Android, as an operating system, has provided users with great opportunity to innovate and get things done in a mobile device. This paper presents how to use the GPS technology in Android devices to complete an interactive application which can be used to monitor a fleet of vehicles and display their positions on Google Maps. By using SMS messages, this information can be transmitted to the server. It provides a telemonitoring system for distribution or transportation vehicles owned by a specific company. The whole system is made of two key parts. The first one is the client, which represents an Android application that is installed in the vehicle. During a vehicle’s motion, its location can be reported by SMS messages. The second is the server, which is a computer programme representing a map using Google Maps to show the last known locations of all tracked vehicles. The current system is able to provide the monitoring process from anywhere. The purpose of this system is to use the Android platform to provide the following features: i) Location information (longitude, latitude). ii) Real time tracking using SMS. iii) Map View of all vehicles’ locations. This system is needed by many companies to monitor illegal and unethical use of their vehicles. It also provides assurance that the location of the vehicle is known in the case of robbery.

The purpose of the project is to develop an Android application that is capable of detecting possible falls for the elderly. With the advancement of wireless communications, the world has become smarter and there has been increase in use of smart phones. Android, being an open source platform has made it simple for every individual to develop their own applications, which in turn can be used on Android devices. Falls among the elderly are a serious concern for both families as well as medical professionals, since falls are considered to be the eighth leading cause of death in the United States. Untreated fall injuries in adults 65 or older can result in serious risks and health complications, since 20% of falls require immediate medical attention and about one-tenth of the falls result in fractures. Thus, as mentioned, fall detection is a critical event requiring quick and accurate response, especially for elderly people living by themselves. This is the motivation behind developing an elderly support, which detects a fall and alerts the caretaker regarding the information. The elderly support is about tracking the person and notifying the caretaker if there is an occurrence. One of the main features of this Android application is that it notifies the caretaker with alert messages which contain all the necessary information. The alert messages contain useful information about the people in danger, such as his/her geo location and also corresponding directions on a map. In occasions of false alerts, the supervised person is given the ability to estimate the value of importance of a possible alert and to stop it before proceeding with further steps. This project is geared towards supporting the elderly. The mobile application is capable of detecting possible falls and through a user-friendly interface that can be used to alert relatives, doctors, and other people who take care of the elderly.

Smartphones have become an integral part of everyday life and a study conducted by Kantar World panel ComTech (11/2012 – 02/2013) showed sales of all Android phones outpaced the iPhone by a hefty margin: 52.1 percent to 43.5 percent. Moreover, Android is the OS for most of the mobiles like HTC, Google, Samsung, Sony, Motorola etc. As Steve Jobs said “It’s really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.” There are a lot of common people out there who travel often and book tickets on various websites; i.e., a person like me travels very often and books ticket on a website which provides for the cheapest price. Most of the time the destinations might match and they want to keep track of the websites the tickets are booked, track the dates travelled to a place, track the price and various other details as it gets difficult to remember all details. Moreover, it is hectic to browse through each and every website and check the previous travel. Similarly, if one travels on quite a number of trips via car, one might want to keep track of those details, too. Hence to track all of these, it would be very convenient if there was an application which can take in all details of personal trips so that you can refer back to them whenever you want to do so. MyTripPal is an Android application where a user can save past trips and future trips via flight or car and a user can enter in all details and save trips. For a future trip, users can be reminded via alarm on a date and time he chooses while entering the trip details in the application. Autofill option is given while entering the source and destination where these are prompted from the values that are entered earlier in previous trips. Google maps navigation option is given which provides the route from the source to the destination. The user can also search for the trips and there is an Upcoming Trips tab which lists all future trips via car or flight.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This chapter describes the application of programme budgeting and marginal analysis (PBMA) as an evidence-based framework to make resource allocation decisions such as whether to invest or disinvest in certain services, products, or interventions. This evidence-based eight-step decision-making process can help decision-makers to maximize the impact of healthcare resources on the health needs of a local population. Programme budgeting is an appraisal of past resource allocation in specified programmes or services with a view to tracking future resource allocation in those same programmes or services. Marginal analysis is the appraisal of the added benefits and added costs of a proposed investment or the lost benefits and lower costs of a proposed disinvestment. This chapter pays particular attention to the use of the PBMA framework to appraise a national health improvement budget as a case study to illustrate the methods practical application in public health.
