Abstract:
Abstract. Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) attracts significant research and development efforts from both the industry and academia, but rarely integrate massive 3D dataset’s interactions. The emergence of dedicated AR devices and powerful Software Development Kit (ARCore for android and ARKit for iOS) improves performance on mobile devices (Smartphones and tablets). This is aided by new sensor integration and advances in computer vision that fuels the development of MAR. In this paper, we propose a direct integration of massive 3D point clouds with semantics in a web-based marker-less mobile Augmented Reality (AR) application for real-time visualization. We specifically investigate challenges linked to point cloud data structure and semantic injection. Our solution consolidates some of the overarching principles of AR, of which pose estimation, registration and 3D tracking. The developed AR system is tested on mobile phones web-browsers providing clear insights on the performance of the system. Promising results highlight a number of frame per second varying between 27 and 60 for a real-time point budget of 4.3 million points. The point cloud tested is composed of 29 million points and shows how our indexation strategy permits the integration of massive point clouds aiming at the point budget. The results also gives research directions concerning the dependence and delay related to the quality of the network connection, and the battery consumption since portable sensors are used all the time.

Abstract:
Millions of smart devices are mushrooming in this digital environment to meet the difficulties posed by innovations and technological advancements in ubiquitous computing. All of these smart gadgets are exposed to everyday objects that are linked to the Internet. Web of Things is a term that defines how various objects are connected to the Internet and communicate with one another using web standards. The emergence of omnipresent systems makes human beings' jobs easier. People were able to live lavish existence in the most comfortable environment because of these inventions. Finally, everyone began to keep their valuables in accordance with their activities inside the house or at work, and they began to hide them under misplaced or lost belongings. Every house has a history of searching for keys, wallets, pen drives, and hand purses, which may be a time-consuming task, especially during times of high demand. A device model is presented to reduce this effort and save time by allowing lost objects to be tracked and traced out. The suggested work serves as a foundational notion for describing how to track items in a practical manner. This is a basic device model that describes how to track an object using an Android mobile device and a Wi-Fi connection with the Blynk app and GPS controllers.

Abstract:
Android, as an operating system, has provided users with great opportunity to innovate and get things done in a mobile device. This paper presents how to use the GPS technology in Android devices to complete an interactive application which can be used to monitor a fleet of vehicles and display their positions on Google Maps. By using SMS messages, this information can be transmitted to the server. It provides a telemonitoring system for distribution or transportation vehicles owned by a specific company. The whole system is made of two key parts. The first one is the client, which represents an Android application that is installed in the vehicle. During a vehicle’s motion, its location can be reported by SMS messages. The second is the server, which is a computer programme representing a map using Google Maps to show the last known locations of all tracked vehicles. The current system is able to provide the monitoring process from anywhere. The purpose of this system is to use the Android platform to provide the following features: i) Location information (longitude, latitude). ii) Real time tracking using SMS. iii) Map View of all vehicles’ locations. This system is needed by many companies to monitor illegal and unethical use of their vehicles. It also provides assurance that the location of the vehicle is known in the case of robbery.

Abstract:
Water utility companies have a billing process which involves reading the meter as well as knowing the consumption of its customers. The major challenge faced by water utilities in Zambia is inaccurate customer billing. Affecting hugely this inaccurate customer billing is the manual meter reading process. For most water utilities in Zambia meter reading is a very complex task. The current method for meter reading uses manual work of reading the meter and updating details of the customers. The readings are maintained in a record book and due to manual processing of data there are possibilities of generating an incorrect bill. This process cause extra work load on person who is capturing meter readings. The manual process is associated with the following challenges; transfer errors, poor handwriting, manipulation of figures, lack of analysis of readings, low productivity, time pressure, increase in non-revenue water and meter readers not visiting the property. The other problem with manual meter reading is that both the customer and the water utility company have challenges in monitoring and analyzing of consumption trends for customers and it is very difficult to monitor meter readers in the field. Although technologically advanced solutions exist, most water utilities in Zambia have no budget for them. The proposed model comprised of the android mobile application for capturing readings in the field and the web application for analysing readings and monitoring of field workers in real time. A usability test was undertaken consisting of 36 respondents which comprised of 75% meter readers and 25% customers. The results obtained from the mobile application framework, showed that the capturing, uploading, monitoring and analysis of readings were very good for the users and customers who participated in the study. Three user experience areas were used to undertake the survey namely, perceived ease-of-use, perceived flexibility and perceived information accuracy. With the android and web application customers are also able to take their own readings and view graphical usage at any time anywhere.

Abstract:
Updating applications is an important mechanism to enhance their availability, functionality, and security. However, without careful considerations, application updates can bring other security problems. In this paper, we consider a novel attack that exploits application updates on Android: a cross-update privacy-leak attack called COUPLE. The COUPLE attack allows an application to secretly leak sensitive data through the cross-update interaction between its old and new versions; each version only has permissions and logic for either data collection or transmission to evade detection. We implement a runtime security system, BREAKUP, that prevents cross-update sensitive data transactions by tracking permission-use histories of individual applications. Evaluation results show that BREAKUP?s time overhead is below 5%. We further show the feasibility of the COUPLE attack by analyzing the versions of 2;009 applications (28;682 APKs).

Abstract:
With the development of Apple’s ARKit and Google’s ARCore, mobile augmented reality (AR) applications have become much more popular. For Android devices, ARCore provides basic motion tracking and environmental understanding. However, with current software frameworks it can be difficult to create an AR application from the ground up. Our solution is CalAR, which is a lightweight, open-source software environment to develop AR applications for Android devices, while giving the programmer full control over the phone’s resources. With CalAR, the programmer can create marker-less AR applications which run at 60 frames per second on Android smartphones. These applications can include more complex environment understanding, physical simulation, user interaction with virtual objects, and interaction between virtual objects and objects in the physical environment. With CalAR being based on CalVR, which is our multi-platform virtual reality software engine, it is possible to port CalVR applications to an AR environment on Android phones with minimal effort. We demonstrate this with the example of a spatial visualization application.

Abstract:
E-commerce has grown exponentially over the years. The growth has been characterized by strong consumer demands and the increasing number of various products available online. This in turn creates a logistical problem and a high demand for an efficient courier service to support the growing markets. It is very important for courier service provider that the delivery of the parcel is being done as fast as possible. One of the courier service’s vital and most crucial business process is in the last mile parcel delivery. This is where an efficient delivery service will be of utmost importance. An efficient system needs to be developed in order to facilitate the interaction between the courier service provider and consumer to precisely determine the optimal route for the parcel delivery. In this paper, an Android-based application system for courier service management with last mile route tracking module is developed. It is a mobile application that eases the courier delivery personnel in finding their way to deliver the parcels to the customer’s doorstep. The application will guide the courier personnel to get a list of courier data such as address and contact information and then navigate them to the selected customers’ addresses based on traffic data retrieved from Google Maps API. It will choose the best route to the address and notify the customers before arriving so that the customers are ready to receive the parcel. This last mile route tracking for parcel delivery will provide the basis for an efficient courier service system.

Abstract:
As the most widely applied mobile operating system for smartphones, Android is challenged by fast growing security problems, which are caused by malicious applications. Behaviors of malicious applications have become more and more inconspicuous, which largely increase the difficulties of security detection. This paper provides a new security sandbox approach of Android based on hook mechanism, to further enrich Android malware detection technologies. This new sandbox monitors the behaviors of target application by using a process hook-based dynamic tracking method during its running period. Compared to existing techniques, (1) this approach can create a virtual space where apk can be installed, run, and uninstalled, and it is isolated from the outside and (2) a risk assessment approach based on behavior analysis is given so that users can obtain an explicit risk prognosis for an application to improve their safety. Tests on malware and normal application samples verify this new security sandbox.

Abstract:
Android applications provide benefits to mobile phone users by offering operative functionalities and interactive user interfaces. However, application crashes give users an unsatisfactory experience, and negatively impact the application’s overall rating. Android application crashes can be avoided through intensive and extensive testing. In the related literature, the graphical user interface (GUI) test generation tools focus on generating tests and exploring application functions using different approaches. Such tools must choose not only which user interface element to interact with, but also which type of action to be performed, in order to increase the percentage of code coverage and to detect faults with a limited time budget. However, a common limitation in the tools is the low code coverage because of their inability to find the right combination of actions that can drive the application into new and important states. A Q-Learning-based test coverage approach developed in DroidbotX was proposed to generate GUI test cases for Android applications to maximize instruction coverage, method coverage, and activity coverage. The overall performance of the proposed solution was compared to five state-of-the-art test generation tools on 30 Android applications. The DroidbotX test coverage approach achieved 51.5% accuracy for instruction coverage, 57% for method coverage, and 86.5% for activity coverage. It triggered 18 crashes within the time limit and shortest event sequence length compared to the other tools. The results demonstrated that the adaptation of Q-Learning with upper confidence bound (UCB) exploration outperforms other existing state-of-the-art solutions.

Abstract:
Parents' concerns in terms of monitoring the presence and monitoring of children's activities become one of the problems that are often faced. Training children to prepare themselves to face this sometimes dangerous world, first develop a sense of security in themselves. The objectives of this research are to generate a system or application to track the whereabouts of children through smartphones that can be used by both parents of the child and to design devices that can be used practically and children can be traced to the presence of wireless media by their parents. Improved supervision of children is needed without reducing the freedom of children to learn and explore their environment. One alternative that allows tracking the presence, location, and accuracy is quite good is to use a Geo Positioning System (GPS). This GPS is packaged in a flexible form so that it can help make it easier for parents to supervise their children in the range of areas that are still accessible to them and find the child's position when separated from their parents. The system can send the location information of children who are lost or lost on smartphone applications used by parents.

Abstract:
Android is offering millions of apps on Google Play-store by the application publishers. However, those publishers do have a parent organization and share information with them. Through the ‘Android permission system’, a user permits an app to access sensitive personal data. Large-scale personal data integration can reveal user identity, enabling new insights and earn revenue for the organizations. Similarly, aggregation of Android app permissions by the app owning parent organizations can also cause privacy leakage by revealing the user profile. This work classifies risky personal data by proposing a threat model on the large-scale app permission aggregation by the app publishers and associated owners. A Google-play application programming interface (API) assisted web app is developed that visualizes all the permissions an app owner can collectively gather through multiple apps released via several publishers. The work empirically validates the performance of the risk model with two case studies. The top two Korean app owners, seven publishers, 108 apps and 720 sets of permissions are studied. With reasonable accuracy, the study finds the contact number, biometric ID, address, social graph, human behavior, email, location and unique ID as frequently exposed data. Finally, the work concludes that the real-time tracking of aggregated permissions can limit the odds of user profiling.

Abstract. In this paper, we present a performance evaluation of our smartphone-based mobile mapping application based on an augmented reality (AR) framework in demanding outdoor environments. The implementation runs on Android and iOS devices and demonstrates the great potential of smartphone-based 3D mobile mapping. The application includes several functionalities such as device tracking, coordinate, and distance measuring as well as capturing georeferenced imagery. We evaluated our prototype system by comparing measured points from the tracked device with ground control points in an outdoor environment with four different campaigns. The campaigns consisted of open and closed-loop trajectories and different ground surfaces such as grass, concrete and gravel. Two campaigns passed a stairway in either direction. Our results show that the absolute 3D accuracy of device tracking with state-of-the-art AR framework on a standard smartphone is around 1% of the travelled distance and that the local 3D accuracy reaches sub-decimetre level.
