Abstract:
41 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and 15 healthy women of reproductive age were examined to evaluate ovarian aromatase activity. Aromatase activity was determined by the decrease of estradiol level after peroral intake of aromatase inhibitor letrosol. To examine aromatase activity of antral follicle (∆E2) was divided on the blood level of antimullerian hormone (AMH), which is corresponded to the number of antral follicles. Significant variations of aromatase activity of antral follicles in patients with PCOS were determined: in 34.1 % of women it was within physiological ranges, i

Abstract:
The role of sex hormones in men with varicose veins remains unclear. Therefore, we set up a prospective pilot-study. In 34 men, venous blood was sampled during morning hours, for the determination of serum estradiol (E2), dehydroepiandrostendion, androstendion, and free testosterone (fT). Serum E2:fT ratio was calculated. The study protocol also included patient history, physical examination, color duplex ultrasound of both limbs, and assignment of CEAP clinical stage (C) classification. About 21 symptomatic varicose men (VM [C ≥ 2] mean age of 40.3/±6.9 years) and 13 healthy men (HM [C ≤ 1] m

220 Background: The B-cell translocation gene-2 (BTG2) belongs to a class of proteins known as the Tob and BTG antiproliferative protein family. It was shown that estrogen and progesterone suppress BTG2 expression for the development of mammary gland. We demonstrated that proliferation rate of low level BTG2 expression in MCF7 was strongly inhibited by the administration of tamoxifen. In postmenopausal breast cancer patients, androgens can be converted to mitogenic estrogens by aromatase in breast cancer cells. Based on these results, we hypothesized that BTG2 expression affects the sensitivit

Benzobarbital and fluorbenzobarbital as monooxygenase system inductors increase the hepatic cytochrome P-450 level and the content of its isoenzymes 2B6, 2C9, 2Å1, accelerate aminopyrine, 7-ethoxyresorufine, 7-pentoxyresorufine, aniline and androstendione oxidation. Activity of benzobarbital and fluorbenzobarbital as inductors is to a large degree due to the action of their major metabolite — phenobarbital. Benzobarbital and fluorbenzobarbital unlike phenobarbital induce isoenzyme 3A4, responsible for androstendione 16b-OH-hydroxylation. PCN-type induction activity posses also native molecules
