Cloacal exstrophy is a complex congenital anomaly that affects both the gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems. It is characterized by an omphalocele, an exstrophied bladder, abnormal genitalia, and imperforate anus. Prior to 1960, there were no reported cases of survival, but because of advancements in neonatology, surgery, and anesthesiology, the survival rate has improved drastically.
