Abstract:
Research question - Which conditions are unique, regardless of time and space, for; supplying units in the defense of one's own territory, and supplying units in an invasion of another nation's territory? Purpose – This study aims to increase the understanding of the differences in logistical conditions for strategic supply, and to contribute to the relatively poorly explored research field of military logistics.  Design/methodology/approach – To answer the research question, the author conducted a structured, focused comparative study on three conflicts; The Finnish War, 1808-1809, Operation Barbarossa, 1941, Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2003. Findings – None of the defending sides were properly prepared. The defenders lost resources to the attackers. The defender controlled the territory before the conflict, and had the opportunity to affect and prepare it. All attackers could choose time and theater of war. All attackers’ units were cut off from their supply source due to weather or climate situation. The attackers had the opportunity to obtain resources from the defenders. The distance between the attackers’ units and their rear supply source increased as the offensive continues.  Originality/value – This is the first study that attempts to identify general differences between supplying the defending and the attacking side during an invasion.

Abstract:

Utgångspunkten för studien var ett större projekt kring epilepsi och medvetande. Syftet med föreliggande arbete var tvådelat: dels att utarbeta ett instrument för att studera medvetandeinnehåll och beteende under partiella epileptiska anfall. Dels att ge en systematisk sammanställning av självrapporterade beteenden under partiella anfall och relatera dessa till aktuell forskning kring medvetande och automatiska beteenden. Vanligast rapporterade beteendet var kategorin egenkontroll, följt av kategorierna automatismer och zombiebeteenden. Fördelningen beror till viss del på att egenkontroll är ett medvetet beteende och därför lättast att rapportera. En närmare analys av exempel på kategorin zombiebeteende ger vid handen att inga exempel på de nya, komplexa beteenden utan subjektivt medvetande som kännetecknar "äkta" zombievarande föreligger. Uppdelningen av kategorierna i automatismer och zombiebeteende bör utifrån detta omprövas i framtida versioner av manualen. Slutligen konstateras att en betydande vidareutveckling av instrumentet är nödvändig för att på ett bättre sätt spegla komplexiteten i materialet.

Abstract:
Inledning: Funktionella anfall, anfall som inte är epilepsi utan tros ha en psykologisk orsak, kan mötas av oförståelse också inom sjukvården. För att förstå detta tillstånd behöver man en processinriktad biopsykosocial sjukdomsmodell där patientens egen sjukdomsförståelse är en viktig del. Frågeställningar: Hur upplever patienter med funktionella anfall sin sjukdom?Hur förstår patienter med funktionella anfall sin sjukdom? Metod: Fem fenomenologiska halvstrukturerade intervjuer har genomförts och med hjälp av tematisk analys kondenserats till fyra teman. Resultat: De fyra temana är upplevelsen av anfallen, egen förståelse av anfallen, konsekvenser av anfallen och vad hjälper mot anfallen. Stora skillnader framkommer i intervjupersonernas upplevelse och förståelse av sina anfall. Anfallen upplevs som en känsla av förändrad kontakt eller ingen kontakt mellan kropp och hjärna och de beskrivs både begränsa och berika livet. Sjukdomsförståelsen uttrycks i fysiologiska termer, i mer vaga psykologiska termer eller att det inte går att förstå. Det framkommer tveksamhet till om psykologisk behandling hjälper. Diskussion: Det diskuteras att de funktionella anfallen faktiskt går att förstå, ibland medvetet och ibland omedvetet som en försvarsmekanism enligt psykodynamisk modell. Korttids psykodynamisk terapi såsom ISTDP kan därför vara ett behandlingsalternativ när psykoedukation och KBT inte har varit tillräckligt.
Introduction: Functional seizures, seizures that are believed to have a psychological cause, may face misunderstanding also in health care. To understand this condition, one needs a process-oriented biopsychosocial model in which the patient's own experience of illness is an important part. Questions: How do patients with functional seizures experience their illness?How do patients with functional seizures understand their illness? Method: Five phenomenological semi-structured interviews have been conducted and condensed into four themes using thematic analysis. Results: The four themes are experience of the seizures, understanding of the seizures, consequences of the seizures and what helps against the seizures. Large differences emerge in the interviewees' experience and understanding of their seizures. The seizures are experienced as a feeling of altered contact or no contact between body and brain and they are described to both limit and enrich life. Understanding of illness is expressed in physiological terms, in more vague psychological terms or cannot be understood. There is some doubt as to whether psychological treatment will help. Discussion: It is discussed that the functional seizures can actually be understood, sometimes consciously and sometimes unconsciously as a defense mechanism according to the psychodynamic model. Therefore, short-term psychodynamic therapy such as ISTDP may be a treatment alternative when psychoeducation and CBT have not been sufficient.

Abstract:
Background: Epilepsy is a neurological illness that affects tens of millions of people globally and can lead to large restrictions in the affected individuals lives. Up to one third of epilepsy patients present epileptic seizures despite treatment with conventional antiepileptic drugs. Relatively recent research into new epileptic treatments has led to the development of cannabidiol-based anticonvulsant drugs. Cannabidiol (CBD) is extracted from the plant Cannabis sativa. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, compared to other cannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC). CBD is considered to possess neuroprotective and anticonvulsant properties that can help patients with treatment-resistant forms of epilepsy such as Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) and Dravet syndrome (DS). The precise mechanism of action is not known, though it is speculated to stem from CBDs agonist or antagonist activity at various ion channels and neurotransmitter transporters. Objective: The purpose of this literature study was to evaluate the effects and safety of cannabidiol in patients with epilepsy.  Method: This thesis is a literature study that was performed by retrieving and reviewing scientific studies from the PubMed database. Search terms such as ‘’Cannabidiol’’, ‘’epilepsy’’, ‘’CBD’’ and ‘’seizure’’ were used. Inclusion criteria for the studies were that the studies should be five years or younger and have at least 50 participants. Results: Five scientific articles were included in the literature study. Any sort of seizure reduction was noted in 36-63,6% of the participants, ≥50% seizure reduction was noted in 36-55% of participants. 1-3% had a 100% seizure reduction. The seizure reductions were greater amongst the CBD groups than in the placebo groups. The vast majority of the adverse effects were deemed to be mild or moderate with diarrhea, somnolence and decreased appetite being the most common. There were elevations of aminotransferase liver enzymes in 1,4-15% of the participants, primarily amongst participants that combined CBD with valproic acid. Mortalities were noted in the studies, though none were considered to be related to treatment. Conclusions: To alleviate human suffering and develop better treatment options of difficult to treat conditions, research into previously tabooed substances is justified. CBD appeared to have good seizure reducing properties when used against various types of epilepsy, with over all tolerable adverse effects. However the studies also indicate that CBD might not be safe to combine with all other antiepileptic drugs, such as valproic acid because of elevations of liver enzymes that might indicate hepatotoxicity. Additional studies are also required to evaluate the correlation with CBD plasma concentration and seizure reduction.

Abstract:
Epilepsy is a disability with a large research field but yet with little knowledge and understanding about finding a cure. The common idea as to why an epileptic seizure is triggered is because of over activity in the neurons of the brain. More than 60 000 people in Sweden suffer from epilepsy. Damages from an epileptic seizure can be life threatening if left uncontrolled and a solution is needed in order to detect and alarm if a seizure has appeared. This project refers to building a system that can detect a seizure and locate the position of the patient having the seizure. This system also creates the possibility for a contact person to take part of the information. As there were no persons with the diagnose epilepsy at hand, the project group decided that simulated seizures were necessary. Development of the system has been categorised into three subsystems. The subsystems are a bracelet unit, a mobile application and a cloud-service. The projects subsystems were developed and the system was completed. A bracelet unit was created. This bracelet is able to detect if an epileptic seizure has occurred. A Bluetooth low energy connection between the bracelet and the mobile application was enabled making it possible for an alarm to be sent to a contact person during a seizure.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to further deepen the knowledge about defence against amphibious assaults. Few theorists have embarked on the task to describe what it takes to defend against an amphibious assault. Due to the few cases with a successful outcome in favor of the defender, a severe lack of empirical proof for the theories exists. The paper has through a method of theory development created three different hypotheses from a study of the existing theoretical framework. These hypotheses then went through a theory test to try and falsify their impact corresponding to two cases with a successful outcome from the defenders perspective. The results of this study shows that the factors Deny sea – and air control and Clear command contribute to the successful defence against an amphibious assault. The factor Target priority was through the test falsified in its original description and changed in order to advance the theory further.

During years of insurgency in Afghanistan the Taliban has not been defeated. They have however adapted into a more sophisticated organization than in the beginning of the insurgency. Rather than identifying them as a simple terror organization this study aims to analyze the Taliban ability to utilize sophisticated tactics and conduct special operations. By using William H. McRavens theory on relative superiority, this studies purpose is to investigate whether the 2012 attack on Helmand’s Camp Bastion can be compared to special operation or not. The study will be conducted as a case study analyzing the reports made by both U.S and British armed forces following the attack. This study concludes that the Taliban attack on Camp Bastion can be comparable to a successful special operation in almost every way according to the theory of relative superiority by McRaven. The study shows that the operation is only lacking parts of the principles simplicity and repetition.

Abstract:
Epilepsi är en kronisk sjukdom som kan drabba personer i alla åldrar och ca 50 miljoner personer i världen har epilepsi. Syftet med denna studie var att beskriva vuxna personers upplevelser av att leva med epilepsi. Den här studien var en litteraturstudie med ett inifrånperspektiv där en systematisk litteratursökning gjordes i databaserna PubMed och Cinahl. Litteratursökningen resulterade i 15 vetenskapliga studier som kvalitetsgranskades. Urvalet bestod av både kvalitativa studier och mixmetodstudier. Data analyserades med hjälp av kvalitativ innehållsanalys med manifest ansats. Analysen resulterade i fem kategorier. Resultat visade bland annat att personer med epilepsi var rädda att få anfall speciellt bland andra människor vilket gjorde att de isolerade sig. Eftersom personer med epilepsi inte längre kunde utföra sina dagliga uppgifter på grund av sjukdomen kände de sig begränsade och därmed blev de beroende av andra människor. Personerna upplevde både diskriminering och stigmatisering från andra människor i samhället på grund av okunskap om epilepsi vilket ledde till bland annat känslan av övergivenhet. Men personer med epilepsi hittade strategier för att klara av vardagliga rutiner och genom att delta i epilepsiprogram och stödgrupper kunde de lära sig att acceptera sin livssituation. Brist på tillräcklig information från vårdpersonalen resulterade till att personer med epilepsi förlorade förtroende för vården. Personer med epilepsi ska få tillräcklig och individanpassad information från sjuksköterskan för att effektivt kunna hantera sina anfall och leva ett meningsfullt liv trots sjukdom. Sjuksköterskan har möjlighet att sprida dessa kunskaper om epilepsi i samhället i syftet att reducera diskriminering och stigmatisering.

Abstract:
The ATP-gated P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) is a non-selective cation channel which senses high extracellular ATP concentrations and has been suggested as a target for the treatment of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases. The use of P2X7R antagonists may therefore be a viable approach for treating CNS pathologies, including epileptic disorders. Recent studies showed anticonvulsant potential of P2X7R antagonists in certain animal models. To extend this work, we tested three CNS-permeable P2X7R blocker (Brilliant Blue G, AFC-5128, JNJ-47965567) and a natural compound derivative (tanshinone IIA sulfonate) in four well-characterized animal seizure models. In the maximal electroshock seizure threshold test and the pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) seizure threshold test in mice, none of the four compounds demonstrated anticonvulsant effects when given alone. Notably, in combination with carbamazepine, both AFC-5128 and JNJ-47965567 increased the threshold in the maximal electroshock seizure test. In the PTZ-kindling model in rats, useful for testing antiepileptogenic activities, Brilliant Blue G and tanshinone exhibited a moderate retarding effect, whereas the potent P2X7R blocker AFC-5128 and JNJ-47965567 showed a significant and long-lasting delay in kindling development. In fully kindled rats, the investigated compounds revealed modest effects to reduce the mean seizure stage. Furthermore, AFC-5128- and JNJ-47965567-treated animals displayed strongly reduced Iba 1 and GFAP immunoreactivity in the hippocampal CA3 region. In summary, our results show that P2X7R antagonists possess no remarkable anticonvulsant effects in the used acute screening tests, but can attenuate chemically-induced kindling. Further studies would be of interest to support the concept that P2X7R signalling plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of epileptic disorders.

Abstract:
This study in military history provides a deeper explanation of the Swedish military’s proposed  counter-operations in case of a russian invasion against Åland in the 1930s. This purpose was fulfilled by answering the central question regarding how a cultural model could explain these proposed counter-operations. Through a qualitative text analysis of Swedish military documents from 1935, on which Keegan’s theory of culture as a vital aspect in the nature of war were applied, the question was answered. The moralic, intellectual and technichal elements that Keegan defines as characteristic in the Western culture, proved to be able to explain the Swedish military’s proposed counter-operations against an eventual russian invasion. To successfully protect Sweden and its democracy from the Soviet Union and thereby the greatly feared communism, the defence of the strategically important Åland was crucial. (Intellectual element) The majority of the Swedish military perceived this as their  duty and obligation, as well  as something they were willing to risk their lives for. By all possible means and technical systems, even if adaptations were necessary, everything would be done to protect Sweden and democracy. (moralic and technical element)

Elektroencefalografi (EEG) är en viktig metod för att upptäcka specifika avvikelser från homeostatiskt tillstånd. Sensitivitet och specificitet är av stor betydelse vid bedömning av den diagnostiska tillförlitligheten hos EEG metoden. Syftet med studien var att ge en övergripande översikt kring faktorer som påverkar sensitivitet och specificitet vid tre typfall med olika karaktär på EEG mönstret. De tre typfallen är sömndeprivering (låg aktivitet), epilepsi (hög aktivitet) och hjärtstopp (metabolisk aktivitet). Metoden som användes i studien var baserad på vetenskapliga artiklar som uppsöktes via databaserna Medline och PubMed. Inklusionskriterierna omfattade artiklar på engelska samt publicerad år 2010–2020. Sensitiviteten och specificiteten spelar stor roll vid prognosbedömningen efter ett hjärtstopp då patienten kan drabbas av ischemi och hjärnvävnaden skadas. Det finns flera olika metoder som genomförs vid EEG undersökningen. Dessa metoder är ambulatoriskt EEG, kontinuerlig EEG, Video EEG samt mobila EEG. Det gjordes en jämförelse mellan sensitiviteten och specificiteten för att se hur dessa påverkas och förändras vid de olika typfallen. Den viktiga slutsatsen var att metodiken spelade också en roll över hur sensitiviteten och specificiteten påverkades.
Electroencephalography (EEG) is an important method for detecting specific deviations from homeostatic status. Sensitivity and specificity are of great importance in assessing the diagnostic reliability of the EEG method. The purpose of the study was to provide an overall overview of the factors that affect sensitivity and specificity in three typical cases with different character of the EEG pattern. The three typical cases are sleep deprivation (low activity), epilepsy (high activity) and cardiac arrest (metabolic activity). The method used in the study was based on scientific articles that were searched via databases Medline and PubMed. The inclusion criteria included articles in English and published in 2010–2020. Sensitivity and specificity play a major role in the prognosis assessment after a cardiac arrest as the patient may suffer from ischemia and the brain tissue is damaged. There are several different methods used in the EEG survey. These methods are ambulatory EEG, continuous EEG, Video EEG and mobile EEG. A comparison was made between the sensitivity and the specificity to see how these are affected and changed in the different typical cases. The important conclusion was that the methodology also played a role in how the sensitivity and specificity were affected.

Denna uppsats granskar Shaun Clarkes teori om strategic persuation oriented targeting. Teorin beskriver hur strategisk påverkan av beslutsfattare ska ske genom utnyttjandet av luftmakt. En nation med begränsade resurser bör nyttomaximera användningen av stridsflyg. Israeliska offensiva flygoperationer analyseras i en jämförande studie av Sexdagarskriget, 1967 och Yom Kippurkriget 1973. Resultatet medger att framgången för Israel i luftkrigen delvis kan förklaras med Clarkes teori. Mätning av strategisk effekt och psykologisk påverkan är svår och kan ibland endast medges genom subjektiv bedömning. Detta påverkar förklaringskraften i teorin. Jämförelsen visar att specifika variabler i Clarkes teori kan verka till fördel för resultatet i enskilda fall. Enligt teorin är det den sammanlagda effekten som ska beaktas för nationer med begränsade resurser. Teoribildningen stärks genom studien och nationer med begränsade resurser kan med fördel analysera denna vid översyn av egen doktrin. Det viktiga är att göra det ur eget hot- och förmågeperspektiv. Fallstudien påvisar att undvikande av symmetriska konfrontationer och resurssplittring är en förutsättning som medger ökad möjlighet till framgång. Väl övervägda, planerade och effektiva offensiva företag tillsammans med riktad strategisk kommunikation kan innebära ökad psykologisk påverkan. Detta kan ge förutsättningar för en strategisk förändring. En instrumentell implementering av offensiva operationer kan dock ge motsatt effekt.

Abstract:
An important starting point for the thesis is the enormous importance of photography as a source for historical research. Earlier in history, this approach has not been obvious among many historians, but recent decades’ new trends have emerged that have changed the attitude towards the image as historical source. Against this background, the main purpose of the thesis is to study how the Swedish media have chosen to portray the genocide of the Kurdish population in Iraq in 1988. The material consists of photographs that has been published by Swedish newspapers from 1988. In order to visualize general patterns, trends and a symbolism in the images, the methodological approach has been based on a semiotic image analysis where the image has been placed in a context while analyzed from two levels. In addition to this, a cultural theoretical perspective has also formed the theoretical framework for the thesis. Here, the starting point has been that the photographs published in the Swedish press papers reflected a cultural as well as a historical context in which they existed in. The results of the thesis have shown that the imagery has testified to a clear tendency to create clear dividing lines between male and female individuals in the photographs. The research have showed that women and children got strong positions as victims while the men usually became absence or they became more dominant in the situations when they showed up. When it came to the context in which the images were published, it showed that the photographs usually came to be placed in context where they came to symbolize or manifest events that concern parts of the genocide. Sometimes images also came to complement each other like a story where each part had to manifest certain parts of the story.

Der Fachtag „Deutsch von Anfang an für Flüchtlinge fördern“ (DAFF) ist einer der ersten Schritte, den diesbezüglichen Austausch zwischen Theorie und Praxis anzustoßen und damit eine Grundlage für die Systematisierung und Fundierung ehrenamtlicher Angebote der Sprachbegleitung in den ersten Aufenthaltsmonaten und darüber hinaus, z.B. auf dem Weg in die Arbeitswelt, zu schaffen. Mit Unterstützung des Fachverbandes Deutsch als Fremd- und Zweitsprache (FaDaF) und in Kooperation mit der Initiative Deutschkurse Asyl Migration Flucht (DAMF), einer Projektgruppe des Ausländerrats Dresden, ist der Dialog im August 2016 am Zentrum für Integrationsstudien (ZfI) der TU Dresden initiiert worden. Min hypotes är att de bärande tankarna i uppdragstaktik inte är ett sentida fenomen. Iuppsatsen kommer jag att söka svar på följande frågeställningar.- Var Karl XII en delegerande eller centralstyrande militär chef under den Jämtländska arméns anfall motTrondheim 1718?- Finns det spår i Karl XII:s ledning av Armfeldts armé av det vi idag kallar uppdragstaktik?Uppsatsen teoretiska utgångspunkt är uppdragstaktik som den beskrivs i den svenska militärstrategiska doktrinenfrån år 2002. Uppdragstaktiken kommer att behandlas som en ledningsfilosofi snarare än som en ledningsmetod.Uppsatsen är utformad som en fallstudie. Svaren på frågeställningar söks i källinnehållet med hjälp av kvalitativtextanalys.Analysen i uppsatsen visar att det är styrkt att Karl XII agerade delegerande under anfallet mot Trondheim även omhan också reglerade en del detaljförhållanden. Det finns också tydliga drag av uppdragstaktik i hela upplägget ochgenomförandet av fälttåget. Det finns ett tydligt inslag av uppdragstaktikiskt tänkande i både Karl XII:s och iArmfeldts förhållningssätt under slutfasen av det stora nordiska kriget.
In this paper the command and control of Karl XII during the campaign inNorway 1718 will be discussed. The purpose of the paper is to examine thehistorical course of events during the assault on Trondheim in the perspectiveof how we today understand mission command and to indicate the existence ofit. My hypothesis is that the main ideas in mission command are not aphenomenon of our days. In the paper I will try to answer of the followingquestions.- Was Karl XII a delegating or a centrally controlling militarycommander during the assault on Trondheim carried out by the army ofJämtland?- Does Karl XII’s command and control of Armfeldt and his army bearany traces of what we today regard as mission-oriented command andcontrol?The theoretical framework of the paper is mission-oriented command andcontrol as it is described in the Swedish defence doctrine of 2002. Missioncommand will be discussed as a command and control philosophy rather than amethod. The paper is designed as a case study. The sources will be analysed byqualitative text analysis in order to handle the questions.The conclusions of the paper show that Karl XII truly acted in a delegatingmanner during the assault on Trondheim, although he also controlled somedetails. The plans concerning the assault and the accomplishment of the assaultshow distinct traces of mission command. The attitudes of both Karl XII andArmfeldt also show obvious elements of mission command thoughts during thefinal phase of the Great Northern War

Hösten 2004 sändes i SVTs Uppdrag granskning ett reportage med rubriken "Lars Ohlys syn på demokrati". Därefter blossade en massmedial debatt upp, den så kallade kommunismdebatten. Både från partikamrater och andra politiker framfördes krav på att Lars Ohly skulle sluta kalla sig kommunist och året därpå gav han med sig. Men vad avsåg man i debatten egentligen med ordet kommunism? Min hypotes är att det rådde en semantisk konflikt i debatten, det vill säga en kamp om betydelsen hos ordet kommunism/kommunist.

I den här uppsatsen visar jag, genom att undersöka nyhetsartiklar och ledare ur svensk dagspress, att min hypotes stämmer. Jag för också, med utgångpunkt i teorier om det språkliga tecknets godtycklighet, en diskussion utifrån undersökningens resultat. Där resonerar jag bland annat kring de politiska konsekvenserna av att kommunism, som det verkar med hänseende till debattens utgång, inte längre kan användas som beteckning för 'drömmen om ett klasslöst samhälle'.

Through an analysis of the Iraq’s engineered genocides against Kurds during the years of Saddam Hussein’s regime, this work aimed to reveal the weakness of the current political and social situation in Iraq. The purpose was to offer an overview of the dangers posed by the current difficult coexistence between the Federal Government in Baghdad and the Kurdish Regional Government in Erbil. The birth of a new political system after the fall of Saddam's regime meant that every institutional power had to be built from scratch in a political and social reality new to most Iraqis. This process of renovation, already witnessed in Europe after World War II, in particular in Italy and Germany, implied the writing of a new constitution and of a new set of legal frames with the purpose to give the country a strong and reliable democratic base. In the case of Iraqi Kurds, who suffered discrimination, death and, ultimately genocide, it is important to revisit their recent past in order to feel they are an integral part of the new country born after the last Gulf War in 2003. Despite the international interest in the Kurdish case, Kurdish people did not have the opportunity to see the ones responsible of the crimes committed against them brought to international justice, as happened in the past in the case of Rwanda and Bosnia. The execution of Saddam Hussein in 2006 meant that the charges against him and his commanders related to the Kurdish case were not discussed in court preventing Kurdish people not only from obtaining the justice they were entitled to but, most importantly, from gaining access to the truth about the massacres and human rights abuses carried out by Saddam's regime between 1963 and 2003.
