Abstract:
Indigenous learners of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) have historically not been the central focus of TESOL expertise here in Australia, or overseas. Despite moves towards inclusion increasing over the last two decades, there is an ongoing tendency for Indigenous EAL/D learners to remain on the periphery of current TESOL advocacy, research and practices in Australia. They are still often overlooked, as identification processes and support settings for migrant and refugee services are mismatched to Indigenous EAL/D learning contexts. Indigenous EAL/D learners, especially with un-/under-recognised contact languages (creoles and related varieties), can remain invisible in classrooms with mainstream curriculum and assessment practices (Angelo, 2013; Angelo & Hudson, 2018; Gawne et al., 2016; Macqueen et al., 2019). Hence, we argue that understanding and consideration of Indigenous EAL/D learners’ needs should become a priority in TESOL initiatives. This paper aims to place Indigenous EAL/D learners at the centre by alerting the TESOL field to a recent body of research and development on new Indigenous contact languages and whole class EAL/D teaching and assessment practices. Clarifying substantial issues and providing solutions, the paper makes Indigenous EAL/D its central focus, highlighting areas that otherwise result in “forgettings” about needs particular to Indigenous EAL/D learners. Thus informed, the Australian TESOL profession will surely include First Nations EAL/D learners at the heart of future discourse and initiatives.

Abstract:
Since the biblical times, the concept of quarantine has been implemented throughout the pages of history in several places whenever there was an existence of a threatening situation. Outbreak of plague or flu or diphtheria or smallpox relatively imposed restrictions on human beings and now in the times of Covid-19, an extensive quarantine procedure is applied throughout the globe since December 2019. On the outset, the process seems comparatively simple but the impact or the mental trauma bestowed upon the humans to be alone in a room, having to do anything is distressing and equally depressing. The 2020 film, Quarantine Girl, directed by Nichole D' Angelo and Gregory Hataka, has realistically portrayed how it feels to be in solitude during the pandemic. The heroine of the film, Ruby embarks on a tiresome journey of quarantine solely where she loses her “normal” self and tragically falls into the pit of mental disorder. The paper analyses how the heroine, Ruby has transformed from a vigorous personality to the ‘depressed’ mad woman at the end.

Abstract:
The article discusses about methodological issues in the study of illustrated magazines from Brazil published by nineteenth-century. Abstract:
A finite element model was developed to simulate the 3-D velocity and temperature distributions in a vessel system including a bifurcated blood vessel and two branches. The effect of the angel between vessels and bifurcation ratio were taken into account, and the local Nusselt number at three typical radial angels and the mean Nusselt number on a section in the branching vessel were obtained. Results show that: the flow and temperature fields were highly unlike the distributions of a single vessel; the local Nusselt number were different at different radial angels; In the entrance region of the branching vessel the mean Nusselt number on a section was larger than that in a single vessel, and there was a maximum of mean Nusselt number whose value and location varied as the different furcating angel or bifurcation ratio; the mean Nusselt number decays rapidly at a small bifurcation ratio.

Abstract:
Excavation within the Gothic nave of Lichfield Cathedral in 2003 revealed three phases of masonry building ante-dating the Norman period. These are likely to relate to the church of St Peter, which Bede described in 731 as housing the timber shrine to St Chad, fifth bishop of Mercia (d 672). A rectangular, timber-lined pit found on the central axis of the building might represent a crypt or burial chamber beneath the shrine. Buried in a small pit alongside this were three fragments of a bas-relief panel of Ancaster limestone, carved with the figure of an angel. They comprise half of the left-hand end of a hollow, box-like structure that had a low-coped lid. This is interpreted as a shrine chest associated with the cult of St Chad. The sculpture, which was broken and buried in, or before, the tenth century, is in remarkably fresh condition, allowing for an in-depth analysis of its original painted embellishment and for an assessment of the monument in terms of its iconography and stylistic affinities, and thus the possible conditions of its production. It is argued that the surviving portion of the panel represents the archangel Gabriel, and that it is one half of an Annunciation scene.

Abstract:
Background:Currently, most experts agree that levels of serum 25OH-Vitamin D (25OHD) lower than 20 ng/mL represent an acceptable threshold for deficiency (1). However, recommendations for vitamin D supplementation vary between scientific societies, and the best regimen to treat deficient patients is still not clear (1).Objectives:The aim of our study was to compare the pharmacokinetic profile of three different regimes of cholecalciferol supplementation in terms of 25OHD exposure and their safety profiles. Methods:We evaluated, in healthy subjects affected by vitamin D deficiency (defined as 25OHD<20 ng/mL), 18 to 60 years of age, the efficacy of three different oral supplementation regimens: daily 10,000Iu administered for 8 weeks, weekly 50,000Iu for 12 weeks and biweekly 100,000Iu for 12 weeks. Serum 25OHD was dosed at baseline, at week 2, 4, 8 in all three groups and also at week 12 in the 50,000 and 100,000Iu groups (the blood sample was taken before the drug administration if scheduled on the same day). Baseline characteristics and 25OHD changes from baseline to the various observation points were tested with ANOVA and t-test. 25OHD was measured by the IDS-ISYSMulti-Discipline automated analyser (Immunodiagnostic System, Boldon, UK) based on chemiluminescence technology. The CV intra-assay measured in our laboratory was 6% (inter-assay CV 9%). The study was authorized by the local ethical committee (protocol DIBA/11. Supported by Abiogen Pharma, Italy). Results:A total of 75 subjects were randomized to receive one supplementation regimen. The descriptive of the sample at baseline and relative 25OHD levels at the various observation points are reported in table 1. 25OHD increased significantly already at week 2 in all three groups (p=0.000). At week 2, 100% of the subject of the daily regimen group presented 25OHD levels >20ng/mL, 96% in the weekly and 88% in the biweekly ones.Table 1.mean values ± SD at the different observation points.ParameterDaily 10.000 Ui(N = 25)Weekly 50.000 Ui(n = 25)Biweekly 100.000 Ui(N = 25)p-valueM:F12:137:1812:13Age (years)30.2 ± 9.936.7 ± 8.735.4 ± 11.0*0.059Body Weight (kg)65.8 ± 13.267.8 ± 10.866.6 ± 13.7*NSHeight (m)1.7 ± 0.11.68 ± 0.11.7 ± 0.1*NSBMI22.55 ± 2.723.8 ± 2.222.8 ± 2.7*NSBaseline 25OHD (ng/mL)14.6 ± 3.912.8 ± 313.5 ± 4.1*NS25OHD week 232.3 ± 526.5 ± 3.425.6 ± 5a0.007b0.00025OHD week 455 ± 10.139.9 ± 4.236.9 ± 7.2a0.000b0.00025OHD week 879.1 ± 16.253.5 ± 7.246.4 ± 8.2a0.000b0.000c0.00125OHD week 12NA58.5 ± 7.850.6 ± 9.6b0.000c0.001*ANOVA test.aDaily 10.000 Ui vs weekly 50.000 Ui.bDaily 10.000 Ui vs Biweekly 100.000 Ui.cWeekly 50.000 Ui vs biweekly 100.000 Ui.In addition, the 25OH levels of the daily regimen group at week 8 were higher than both the ones of the weekly and the biweekly regimen groups both at week 8 and week 12 (p<0.000 vs both groups). No serious adverse event occurred. Conclusion:All the three different regimens proved to be effective in correcting vitamin D deficiency already after 1 months (2 weeks for the daily regimen). Abstract:
In order to reconstruct the life of “study abroad students” in seventh-century Ireland I rely primarily on three sources. The first two sources are the English churchmen Aldhelm and Bede. Aldhelm (d.709), abbot of Malmesbury and later bishop of Sherborne, was the first Anglo-Saxon man of letters. Fortunately, at least two letters by him to Anglo-Saxon students who studied in Ireland survive. Bede (d.735), a priest at Wearmouth-Jarrow, was the greatest of the Anglo-Saxon men of letters. He wrote a history of the Anglo-Saxon Church (Historia Ecclesiastica [HE]), cited frequently in this article, which often notes the relationships between the English and the Irish in the seventh century. As English clerical scholars, Aldhelm and Bede are eager to promote the Church of Rome and Anglo-Saxon England’s role in its growth. Nevertheless, they frequently acknowledge the Irish contribution to English Church history and Anglo-Saxon learned culture. Bede tells us, for example, that Irish schools provided English students with free books and free instruction. My third major source is the Hisperica Famina1 “Western Sayings,” a cryptic Latin text written in Ireland by, or about, foreign students sometime probably between c.650 and c.665. The Hisperica Famina are secular in tone and give us our most intimate

Abstract:
Metric equivalence is a quantitative way to assess cross-cultural equivalences of translated instruments by examining the patterns of psychometric properties based on cross-cultural data derived from both versions of the instrument. Metric equivalence checks at item and instrument levels can be used as a valuable tool to refine cross-cultural instruments. Korean and English versions of the Center for Epidemiological Studies–Depression Scale (CES–D) were administered to 154 Korean Americans and 151 Anglo Americans to illustrate approaches to assessing their metric equivalence. Inter-item and item-total correlations, Cronbach’s alpha coefficients, and factor analysis were used for metric equivalence checks. The alpha coefficient for the Korean-American sample was 0.85 and 0.92 for the Anglo American sample. Although all items of the CES–D surpassed the desirable minimum of 0.30 in the Anglo American sample, four items did not meet the standard in the Korean American sample. Differences in average inter-item correlations were also noted between the two groups (0.25 for Korean Americans and 0.37 for Anglo Americans). Factor analysis identified two factors for both groups, and factor loadings showed similar patterns and congruence coefficients. Results of the item analysis procedures suggest the possibility of bias in certain items that may influence the sensitivity of the Korean version of the CES–D. These item biases also provide a possible explanation for the alpha differences. Although factor loadings showed similar patterns for the Korean and English versions of the CES–D, factorial similarity alone is not sufficient for testing the universality of the structure underlying an instrument.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This study seeks to examine the impact of Block Ownership structure on risk-taking as measured by R&D Intensity in OECD countries. The study uses a panel data of 200 companies from Anglo American and European countries between 2010 and 2014. The ordinary least squares regression is used to examine the relationships. Additionally, to alleviate the concern of potential endogeneity, we use fixed effect regression, two-stage least squares using instrumental variables. The results show that there is a negative and significant relationship between block ownership and risk-taking, with a greater significance among Continental European countries than among Anglo American countries. The rationale for this is that Continental European countries are more likely to have block owners who are also the co-founders and owners of their companies. Also, for the block owners in Anglo American companies, there is greater protection afforded minority shareholders because of the particular legal system in these countries. Future research could investigate risk-taking using other measures, performing interviews with firm’s management, investors and owners. This study extends, as well as contributes to the extant CG literature by offering new evidence on the effect of Block ownership on risk-taking between two different traditions. The findings will help regulators and policymakers in the OECD countries in evaluating the adequacy of the current CG reforms to prevent management misconduct and scandals.

Abstract:
Purpose This study aims to investigate the impact of ownership structure and board structure on risk-taking as measured by research and development (R&D) Intensity in OECD countries. Design/methodology/approach A panel data of 300 companies from Anglo American and European countries between 2010 and 2016 were used. The ordinary least square multiple regression analysis procedure is used to examine the relationships. The findings are robust to alternative measures and endogeneities. Findings The results show that institutional ownership, board size, independent directors and board diversity are negatively related to risk-taking, with greater significance among Anglo American countries than among Continental European countries. In contrast, the results show that director ownership is statistically insignificant. Originality/value This study extends and contributes to the extant corporate governance (CG) literature, by offering new evidence on the effect of ownership and board structure on risk-taking between two different traditions. The findings will help regulators and policy-makers in the OECD countries in evaluating the adequacy of the current CG reforms to prevent management misconduct and scandals. These findings are relevant for companies aiming to adopt the most suitable governance mechanisms to pursue their R&D objectives and for policymakers interested in promoting R&D investment.

Abstract:
Exploration of the Dampier Sub-basin on the North West Shelf of Australia commenced with a reconnaissance seismic survey in 1965. In 1969 Madeleine-1, the first well drilled on the Madeleine Trend, encountered water bearing Upper Jurassic sandstones. Following acquisition of a regional grid of modern seismic in 1985 and 1986, and comprehensive hydrocarbon habitat studies, the Wanaea and Cossack prospects were matured updip from Madeleine 1. They were proposed to have improved reservoir development and an oil charge. The Wanaea Oil Field was discovered in 1989 when Wanaea-1 encountered a gross oil column of 103 m in the Upper Jurassic Angel Formation. The well flowed 49° API oil at 5856 BPD (931 kL/d) with a gas-oil ratio of 1036 SCF/STB. Two appraisal wells were drilled in the field in 1990.The Cossack Oil Field was discovered in 1990 when Cossack-1 encountered a gross oil column of 54 m also in the Angel Formation. The oil-water contact is 18 m deeper than in Wanaea-1. Cossack-1 flowed 49° API oil at 7200 BPD (1145 kL/d) with a gas-oil ratio of 98 SCF/STB.The Angel Formation reservoir consists of mass flow sandstones interbedded with bioturbated siltstones. Sandstone porosities average 16 to 17 per cent for both the Wanaea and Cossack Fields. Permeabilities average about 300 mD at Wanaea and about 500 mD at Cossack. An extensive 3-D seismic survey was conducted over the Wanaea and Cossack Fields in 1990. Final reserves calculations await interpretation of this survey, but it is clear that the combined Wanaea and Cossack oil reserve is the largest outside Bass Strait.

Abstract:
This study explores the oral story of the Sasak tribe “The Angel Belt”. As a literary work, especially oral literature or Sasak stories this study posed that Sasak literary works not only function as an entertainment, or bedtime, but it leads to the low public aspiration of the region’s literature. The research questions of this study were what functions are identified in the folk tales of Angel Belt in Sasak society in Bujak village Batukliang sub-district? This research constituted a descriptive qualitative which described the existence of functions and seen in the story, behavior character, and motivation or action in the role of each character in a story. The analysis began with the determination of informants, data collection data analysis then draw a conclusion. The results show that in the story “Angel Belt” contained the function as follows: a) as a projection system, namely collective reflection tools, b) as a means of consolation, c) as an educational tool, d) as a tool of criticism.

Abstract:
The Anglo-Boer War: A distorted image from abroadThis article deals with the Dutch author Louwrens Penning (1854-1927) who wrote 18 novels on the Boer War, even though he never visited the country until 1924, long after the Anglo-Boer War had ended One of his books, entitled De held van Spionkop, is discussed as example. Penning s images of the Boer warriors and their endeavors were highly idealised and embedded in a certain view of race relations a n d war. He created idols, like the courageous boy named Blikoortjie, which became widely known among his Dutch readers, especially the Dutch youth. He facilely ignored historic facts and rather idealized a n d fantasized. His works thus became a peculiar mixture off act and fiction. Though he was not a literary master, he succeeded in writing gripping stories which were - up to a point - reprinted time and again. Through his writings he succeeded in creating a positive image of the Afrikaner which persisted in spite of the negative outcome of apartheid. Though one cannot be sure, it may even be true that Dutch immigrants came to South Africa because of a consistently positive image of Afrikaans and Afrikaans heroes as created by Penning in his books.

Abstract:
Diploid and polyploid wild species of Triticeae have complex relationships, and the understanding of their evolution and speciation could help to increase the usability of them in wheat breeding as a source of genetic diversity. The diploid species Pseudoroegneria spicata (St), Thinopyrum bessarabicum (Jb), Dasypyrum villosum (V) derived from a hypothetical common ancestor are considered to be possible subgenome donors in hexaploid species Th. intermedium (JrJvsSt, where indices r, v, and s stand for the partial relation to the genomes of Secale, Dasypyrum, and Pseudoroegneria, respectively). We quantified 10 families of transposable elements (TEs) in P. spicata, Th. bessarabicum, D. villosum (per one genome), and Th. intermedium (per one average subgenome) using the quantitative real time PCR assay and compared their abundance within the studied genomes as well as between them. Sabrina was the most abundant among all studied elements in P. spicata, D. villosum, and Th. intermedium, and among Ty3/Gypsy elements in all studied species. Among Ty1/Copia elements, Angela-A and WIS-A showed the highest and close abundance with the exception of D. villosum, and comprised the majority of all studied elements in Th. bessarabicum. Sabrina, BAGY2, and Angela-A showed similar abundance among diploids and in Th. intermedium hexaploid; Latidu and Barbara demonstrated sharp differences between diploid genomes. The relationships between genomes of Triticeae species based on the studied TE abundance and the role of TEs in speciation and polyploidization in the light of the current phylogenetic models is discussed.

Abstract:
SummaryThis paper offers a close reading of the Muslim theologian Najm al-Dīn al-Ṭūfī’s (d. 716/1316) five treatises in which he describes Jesus in angelic terms, asserting that in his nature Jesus was an angel, but in form a human being. It also provides a thorough analysis of Ṭūfī’s scriptural arguments for the notion of an angelic Jesus. The question of his possible sources is further addressed. Are there any Christian writings that describe Jesus in angelic terms? If so, how do they relate to Ṭūfī’s ‘angel-natured Jesus’? Pointing out a number of early Christian textual traditions that clearly bear marks of the notion of an angelic Jesus, the paper then sheds light upon those sources that may have led to a milieu that ultimately influenced Ṭūfī’s opinion. Ṭūfī’s reference to an angelic Jesus and his willingness to incorporate it into his own Christology suggest that at least some features of angel Christology must have been still ‘in the air’ in the early 14th century Egyptian context.

Abstract:
Although measuring the performance of a firm's R&D activities is a very challenging task, the critical role played by R&D in creating and sustaining a firm's competitive advantage has raised the need to adopt appropriate performance measurement systems (PMSs) in R&D units. Therefore, management scholars have been studying this issue and PMSs have diffused in the R&D departments of most R&D-intensive companies. Nevertheless, empirical investigations into the diffusion and practical use of PMSs in R&D units mainly concern Anglo-Saxon countries, where R&D information disclosure requirements have been in place for a long time. The purpose of this paper is to study the diffusion and practical use of PMSs in the R&D units of firms that are not subject to these types of external institutional influences. With this aim, the results of a survey on the R&D performance measurement practices adopted by a sample of Italian R&D-intensive firms are discussed. They allow to understand why and how R&D-intensive companies design and use a PMS in their R&D units for managerial purposes.
