Both of these rates reach a maximum near the average tilt angle, which is around +5°, not 0°. The fact that this peak angle is close to the average tilt and not 0° suggests that this may be the orientation of the subsurface toroidal flux tube(s) from which the sunspot groups form. For contact angles below $9{0}^{\ensuremath{\circ} } $, the evaporative flux from the droplet tends to diverge in the vicinity of the contact line. Abstract A common procedure is to neglect coupling between phases and to predict flux linkages with an excited phase as a function of angle and current. Circuit equations, which include a model of the converter, are then used to calculate the phase current and flux linkages as a function of time, assuming speed to be constant. Abstract:
Heat transfer coefficients have been measured for film cooling injection from a single row of holes laterally directed with a compound angle of 60°. Two hole configurations were tested, round holes and holes with a diffusing expansion at the exit. Streamwise directed round holes were also tested as a basis for comparison. All the holes were inclined at 35° with respect to the surface. The density ratio was 1.0, momentum flux ratios ranged from I = 0.16 to 3.9 and mass flux ratios from M = 0.4 to 2.0. Results are presented in terms of hf/h0, the ratio of film cooling heat transfer coefficient t

Abstract:
Film cooling effectiveness was studied experimentally in a flat plate test facility with zero pressure gradient using a single row of inclined holes which injected high density, cryogenically cooled air. Round holes and holes with a diffusing expanded exit were directed laterally away from the freestream direction with a compound angle of 60°. Comparisons were made with a baseline case of round holes aligned with the freestream. The effects of doubling the hole spacing to six hole diameters for each geometry were also examined. Experiments were performed at a density ratio of 1.6 with a range

Abstract:
Longitudinal defects, including stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) and selective seam weld corrosion, can occur in natural gas transmission pipelines. Previously developed nondestructive testing techniques (including angle beam ultrasonics, electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs), and remote field eddy current) are capable of detecting longitudinal defects. Two angle beam ultrasonic syatems are commercially available, and an EMAT system is being commercialized. But there are factors that limit the applicability of these techniques, such as minimum pipe diameter and maximum inspection speed.

Abstract:
A series of tests involving the exposing mannequins clothed with normal civilian clothing to a 10 ft. x 10 ft. LNG pool fire was conducted. Both single layer clothing and double layer clothing were used. The radiant heat flux incident outside the clothing and incident on the skin covered by clothing were measured using wide-angle radiometers, for durations of 100 s to 200 s (per test). The levels of heat flux incident on the clothing were close to 5 kW/m2. The magnitude of the attenuation factor (AF) (ratio of the outside radiant heat flux to that on the skin) was calculated. It is seen that A

Abstract:
Probability distributions of acoustic signals propagating through the near-ground atmosphere are simulated by the parabolic equation method. The simulations involve propagation at four angles relative to the mean wind, with frequencies of 100, 200, 400, and 800 Hz. The environmental representation includes realistic atmospheric refractive profiles, turbulence, and ground interactions; cases are considered with and without parametric uncertainties in the wind velocity and surface heat flux. The simulated signals are found to span a broad range of scintillation indices, from near zero to exceedi
