Romberg, William John. "Market Segmentation, Preferences, and Management Attitudes of Alaska Nonresident Anglers." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 1999. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/36250.

Abstract:
Nonresident angler participation in Alaskan sport fisheries has increased at a higher rate than resident participation during the past decade. Popular sport fisheries have become crowded and stakeholder groups are increasingly concerned about the future direction of Alaska sport fisheries management. To address stakeholder concerns in an informed manner, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) commissioned a market segmentation study to collect baseline information for assessing the impacts of projects and strategies that provide benefits to the angling public. I developed a 24-page mail questionnaire that was sent to a stratified random sample of 15,000 Alaska nonresident fishing license holders. Information was collected on fishing participation, fishing experience, activity-specific attitudes, motivations for fishing, as well as species and locations fished. In addition, information on setting preferences, guide use, fish exportation, and opinions on several management proposals was also collected. The response rate was 54% (exclusive of surveys that were undeliverable). A two-stage empirical clustering approach, employing Ward's method and UPGMA hierarchical clustering followed by k-means partitioning, identified five nonresident angler clusters. A combination of seven specialization and four motivation variables were used to identify angler groups. The angler segments ranged in size from 15% to 24% of the sample and had diverse characteristics including differences in frequency of participation, fishing experience and preferences, as well as motivations for fishing. Significant differences existed among angler segments with regard to Alaska fishing characteristics, such as number of days and locations fished in Alaska, number of fish transported from Alaska, attributes important in fishery site selection, and likelihood of returning to Alaska to fish. Differences in fishing characteristics, resource dependency, and preferences with regard to fishery attributes also were found among anglers participating in selected Alaska sport fisheries, as well as anglers fishing for different species within a fishery location (e.g., Kenai River). Information provided by this study will allow ADF&G to assess the relative nonresident demand for different types of angling experiences in Alaska, estimate nonresident angler response to potential management actions, and focus planning and management activities in ways that are consistent with the interests of these different angler types. Results also demonstrate the potential for fishery-based segmentation to provide fisheries managers with a more detailed understanding of nonresident angler participation at the regional and fishery level.

Abstract:
A catch-related attitude measurement scale is used for discerning an anglers evaluation of catching fish in four constructs (catching something, catching numbers, catching large fish, and retaining fish) in two studies. The first study was of resident (in-state) and nonresident (out-of-state) anglers at Sardis and Grenada reservoirs and the second was of hand grabblers and rod and reel catfish anglers. In the first study at Sardis Reservoir, there were no differences in catch-related attitudes between groups. At Grenada Reservoir, there were differences between groups toward catching large fish and retaining fish. In the second study, hand grabblers had stronger attitudes toward catching large fish than rod and reel catfish anglers but rod and reel catfish anglers had stronger attitudes toward catching numbers. Knowledge of catch-related attitudes can lead to more palatable regulations that enhance angler satisfaction and ultimately retain and recruit new and lapsed anglers.

O'Neill, Brendan Michael. "Market segmentation, motivations, attitudes, and preferences of Virginia resident freshwater anglers." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2001. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/33667.

Abstract:
For many years, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) has managed freshwater fisheries without fully understanding their stakeholders. To increase its knowledge and improve management, the VDGIF commissioned a market segmentation study to collect baseline information about its constituents and serve as a model for future studies. I developed a 16-page mail questionnaire that was sent to a stratified random sample of 5,378 Virginia resident freshwater fishing license holders. The questionnaire was use to collect information on characteristics, motivations, attitudes, and preferences of Virginia resident freshwater anglers. The response rate was 52%. I examined the descriptive characteristics of resident freshwater anglers and anglers who purchased different types of licenses and anglers from different management regions. Differences in fishing behaviors, motivations for fishing, attitudes, and preferences for management existed among anglers based on license type and regions. Although satisfaction with freshwater fishing was high, in most cases, many anglers believed that fishing quality had declined. By adopting a marketing approach and providing the desired experiences to each segment of anglers, the Fisheries Division may improve its relationship with anglers, as well as increase participation and satisfaction. I also segmented the Virginia anglers by species preference, specialization, and a multi-level approach that involved a combination of species preference and specialization. Anglers are not a homogenous group and they seek different experiences. Multi-level segmentation was the most useful method of segmentation because it identified within-species preference group differences. Within each species preference group I found several segments of anglers. Segments differed in their orientations (trophy or consumptive), preferred methods of fishing and information sources, and support for regulations. Specialist anglers from each species preference group were trophy oriented and some were consumptive oriented as well. Specialists also were the most supportive of restrictive regulations. Less specialized anglers in each species preference group generally were less trophy oriented, more consumptive, and less supportive of regulations than specialist anglers. My results provide better understanding of the different segments of anglers within each species preference group, which will allow managers to provide a more satisfying experience for their stakeholders.

Riley, Larry Edwin. "Anglers' Attitudes Toward the Fisheries Management Policies of the Logan and Blacksmith Fork Rivers, Utah." DigitalCommons@USU, 1987. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/4399.

Full text
Abstract:
In the summer of 1986, anglers along three sections of the Logan and Blacksmith Fork Rivers, Utah were surveyed as to their attitudes toward fish stocking, habitat improvement, and wild trout management policies. Information concerning socio-demographic characteristics and ang ling values were ascertained as well. Data were cross tabulated to determine which of the variab les influence anglers' attitudes toward spec ifi c fisheries manage ment policies and the type of angling opportunity provided. The analysis of data s how e d differences between the types of anglers using the three sample sections. The data showed that variables such as preferred angling method, preferred water type, number of fishing trips taken this year, age, importance of keeping fish, and whether an angler emphasizes catching a large number of fish or large fish, can influence anglers ' attitudes toward fisheries management policies. The ungrouped data showed that the anglers sampled preferred: to catch brown or cutthroat trout; fish stocking to be limited to waters which have little or no natural reproduction or production; larger (14 inch) catchable size trout to be stocked even if it means a smaller number of fish will be stocked; the State to emphasize habitat improvement right along with fish stocking in their management plan; and the continuation of the policy to provide a limited amount of 11 Wild trout., regulated waters for angling variety.

Unger, Joseph W. III. "Utah Angler Specialization and Its Relationship to Environmental Attitudes and Angler Motivations." DigitalCommons@USU, 2012. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/1388.

Abstract:
In recent years, fishing has been decreasing in popularity both in Utah and nationwide. Because of this, there has been a reduction in funds and support for fisheries management, causing deterioration of once pristine fisheries. By understanding the motivations and environmental attitudes of the remaining anglers, fisheries managers can better manage areas to retain these anglers and attract new ones. This thesis presents research about the environmental attitudes and motivations of anglers in respect to specialization level. Findings presented in this thesis show anglers in Utah are members of one of three distinct angler specialization groups. The more specialized the anglers, the more aware they were of the environment. Comparison of consumptive and nonconsumptive anglers was also tested, without statistically significant results. Environmental orientations were tested between anglers and the general public as well. Respondents were placed on a continuum ranging from "strong utilitarian" to "strong preservationist." Most anglers, like most members of the public, clustered in the center of this continuum. Finally, motivations of anglers were compared across the three specialization groups, but only two of three motivation measures were found to be significantly different across angler specialization levels.

Anderson, David K. "Measuring angler attitudes toward the catch-related aspects of recreational fishing." Texas A&M University, 2005. http://hdl.handle.net/1969.1/2652.

Full text
Abstract:
The primary purposes of this dissertation were understanding the nature of an attitudinal scale designed to measure the consumptive orientation of recreational anglers and filling a gap in the published literature regarding measurement using the scale. Consumptive orientation was defined as the attitude anglers hold towards catching fish, including catching something, retaining fish (as opposed to releasing), catching large fish (size), and catching large amounts of fish (numbers). In order to confirm these four attitudes are measured by the scale, a model was hypothesized and tested using a confirmatory factor analysis on a sample of male anglers in Texas. It was reasoned that a different subculture may interpret the attitudinal statements differently; thus, the structure of the scale was explored using women as a separate sample. Finally, an example of how the scale could be used was provided by examining differences between tournament and nontournament anglers?? attitudes towards the four constructs measured by the scale. Overall, results were varied with the hypothesized model used to confirm the scale. While results indicated dropping four of the sixteen statements would not result in a significant change in the structure of the scale, results also confirmed there were four distinct attitudes measured by the consumptive orientation scale. The use of the scale with the larger angling population was confirmed by finding the same structure using a sample of women anglers. Finally, the scale was shown to be useful for examining activity-specific differences in angling social worlds. Differences were detected between tournament and nontournament anglers on three of the four consumptive attitudes: ??catching numbers,?? ??catching large/trophy fish,?? and ??retaining fish.?? Differences found were related to the commitment level of tournament and nontournament anglers. Further analysis examined how avidity may have affected differences among angler groups. These differences further current knowledge about tournament anglers and their expectations for fishing experiences. Overall, results support the usefulness of the consumptive orientation scale as a survey tool for understanding recreational fishing clientele.

Croft-White, Michael. "Measurement and analysis of rally car dynamics at high attitude angles." Thesis, Cranfield University, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/1826/1480.

Full text
Abstract:
This research aims to investigate the nature of high β-angle cornering as seen in rallying and in particular the World Rally Championship. This is achieved through a combination of sensor development, on-car measurement and vehicle dynamic simulation. Through the development of novel β-angle measurement technology it has become possible to measure and study vehicle attitude dynamics on loose gravel surfaces. Using this sensor, an understanding of how a rally driver uses the dynamics of the vehicle and surface to maximise performance has been obtained. By combining the new data stream with accepted vehicle dynamic theory, the tyres have been considered and general trends in gravel tyre performance unveiled. Through feedback, these trends have been implemented as a means of tuning a dynamic model to improve realism and permit an analysis of cornering trends in rally cars. Active control systems have been considered that could implement more sophisticated algorithms based on this understanding and potentially use the new sensor information as an input signal. A case study which explores such a possibility is included.

Abstract:
This research sets out to test the hypothesis on the disparity between the constitutional status of the languages of the Seychelles (Creole, English and French) and their usage. lt shows the distribution of languages in key institutions in relation to Chaudenson's description of status and corpus (2004). lt examines the relationship between linguistic attitudes and representations and behaviour and analyses strategies related to language management and glottopolitical decisions. This thesis presents an exhaustive documentation on the history of linguistic policies in Seychelles from colonial times to the present. To support our hypothesis, 4 surveys (interviews and questionnaires) were conducted with a sample population of 689 persons comprising high ranking government officiais, teachers and students. Results from these surveys show that the speakers' pratices are not in line with the Constitutional lawwith regards to languages. They illustrate that the Seychelles trilingual context involves a stratified triglossia at different levels whereby each language finds its « slot » in relation to contextual usage, representations and speakers' competence. Finally, this research suggests that Seychelles' trilingualism exists in an harmonious way where a complementarity of language functions is the norm

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

In an effort to highlight best practices in the management of wild eastern brook trout, an examination was performed of brook trout management plans and stocking habits for seven randomly selected states within the species native range. Additionally, surveys were distributed to these state’s members of Trout Unlimited (TU) in an effort to understand angler motivations, awareness of and attitudes about their state’s stocking practices and protection of wild brook trout fisheries. The states selected were within the eastern brook trout’s native range and included West Virginia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Maryland, and North Carolina. While each state differs in its efforts to either restore or protect existing wild brook trout populations, all seven states continue to stock hatchery-raised brook trout to maintain a viable sport fishery. However, regarding stocking dynamics, each state has unique policies regarding where the stocking occurs in relation to how these efforts potentially impacts wild populations. Survey results indicated that, while the majority of TU members expressed a strong understanding of their states stocking practices, they were still strongly interested in gaining additional information, indicating a need for more transparency regarding stocking habits and practices. Furthermore, survey results indicated that a large percentage of TU members still enjoy fishing for popular, nonnative, sport fish such as bass and brown trout. Additionally, support for policies protecting wild brook trout diminished as opportunities for catching larger fish diminished along with the removal of popular, nonnative sport fish. Overall, results indicated a need for fisheries managers to work more closely with cold-water conservation organizations, such as Trout Unlimited, and their members to assist in the crafting of policies that benefit both the sport fishing industry and wild brook trout populations.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Social affects (or attitudes) expressed by a speaker during a verbal interaction are linked to what the speaker intends to say, and are influenced by the speaker's language culture. Aubergé (2002) postulates a voluntary control of such expressions. Following works on attitudinal expression in French and British English at GIPSA-lab, the current thesis investigates 12 Japanese prosodic attitudes. It describes their realization and their perception by Japanese speakers. The influence of visual information is measured through a multimodal corpus. Critical acoustic information for the attitudes' recognition is gathered thanks to a gating paradigm. For some attitudes, information is spread from the start until the end of the utterances, but some attitudes are recognized immediately, while others are recognized at a critical point at the middle or the end of utterances. Cross•cultural perception of social affects in three languages (Japanese, French and British English) is investigated in order to study cultural cues in social affective expressions. Results show that two attitudes (exclamation of surprise and declaration) are recognized cross culturally, while some others behave like false friends - especially the "kyoshuku" Japanese expressions of politeness. Finally, the language learning effect is measured on French learners of Japanese. Learners gradually increase their performances, but still have problems with the most culturally encoded expressions (i. E. "kyoshuku")

This PhD thesis concerns the learning/teaching of the English language. It consists in an exploratory study of 170 high school students’ beliefs and attitudes as regards the introduction and use of an MP3 player in English classes. Our investigation was based on a systemic approach of the learning context. In order to expose the learners’ attitude, we used questionnaires. Our results highlighted the absence of consensus in the acceptation of the MP3 player in English classes. A frequent use of the MP3 player in the daily life does not involve its appropriation in a school context. The MP3 player is not a real object – it is an artefact that is reconstructed according to the uses. Our study also showed that the learners’ beliefs of the technological object depended on their beliefs of the other elements belonging to the learning context

Abstract:
The aim of this PhD dissertation is to study the role that Tunisian EFL textbooks play in learners' acquisition of an Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC). By means of quantitative and qualitative methods and following Risager's (1991) and Sercu's (2000) models, the study attempts to evaluate four Tunisian EFL textbooks as well as learners' knowledge and attitudes towards the British people and culture in terms of two variables: their level of education (6th and 9th form Basic Education) and their regional belonging (rural and urban areas, respectively Bouzguem and Sfax). The application of Pearson' Correlation Test on pupils' and textbooks' data has shown no significant role of the Tunisian EFL textbooks evaluated in shaping learners' attitudes and knowledge in both areas and levels of education. Pupils tend to be ethnocentric and have little and erroneous knowledge of the British people and culture. Textbooks, fail to present an unreal image of the British culture. Other sources of information about the target culture seem to be more influential in forming pupils' attitudes and informing them about the culture of the foreign language they are learning. Some recommendations are suggested to modify the textbooks evaluated to be more convenient and efficient to teach English for intercultural communication

Abstract:
Taking into consideration previous studies on the language planning in Tunisia, this thesis attempts to describe and analyze its linguistic situation, characterized by a diglossia between classic Arabic and the Tunisian dialect, but also by a French bilingualism, confronted recently by the desire of many Tunisians to replace it with English. In order to investigate the current role of the French language in Tunisian society and to discover whether the process of arabization has weakened its influence, different questionnaires were distributed to various categories of Tunisians and interviews took place with targeted persons. Their attitude towards the French language was studied and their language use was analyzed. This thesis also explores the possibility of replacing French with English. Particular attention was paid to the comparison of both languages in the world today and on the benefits each one can bring to the Tunisian economy. Considering the importance of the opinion of Tunisian people on this matter, questionnaires and interviews were also realized

Abstract:
Prevailing low fertility rates in several European states, such as Germany, have been studied widely in recent years. Findings include discrepancies between fertility preference and actual family size as well as between fertility intentions and fertility behavior; an ‘unmet need’ for children found on the individual and the societal level. Fertility preference is specified as the individual ideal number of children, and fertility intentions as the long- or short-term plans to have a child. Apart from investigating the rates of realization, these measures have been understudied. The objective of this study is to illuminate a new angle of low fertility rates in Germany by reviewing fertility measures previously considered to be stable predictors of fertility behavior. The aim is to investigate the stability of fertility preferences and of positive short-term fertility intentions of Germans in their reproductive age. According to the Theory of Planned Behavior and the life-course perspective, attitudes and experiences can influence fertility preferences and short-term fertility intentions. In this study, the suspected connection between unstable preferences and intentions and certain attitudes towards and experiences with the career, working life, and childcare situation is examined. These processes are expected to differ between men and women, and between childless individuals, parents with one child and parents with more than one child. Using data from seven survey waves of the German family panel pairfam, fixed-effects and random-effects regression models are run separately for women and men and for those of different parities. The results suggest that those with high career importance and those who expect or perceive a negative effect of children on the career are more likely to have unstable positive intentions. Although fertility preferences are shown to be somewhat unstable, no relevant relationships can be found. The differences between the findings on men and women regarding relevant determinants and direction of the relationships are unexpectedly small. Childless individuals are as likely to hold unstable preferences and intentions as parents.

Abstract:
Our research is about the study of the representations of the French language and its learning by Jordanian students. We tried to discover the images concerning France and French people from a sample of Jordanian students. The purpose of this paper is to explore more the question of the representations of the Jordanian learners in a university bilingual context, little studied from an Arabophone context. We have studied a sample of 68 Jordanian students from the Yarmouk University by means of questionnaire. This study also reveals the representations - stereotypes of both mother and foreign tongues and their places in class of French language as a foreign language. The results of this study show that the students have a very well-balanced about the generally sight of the French language and its apprenticeship. The study also makes evident the existence of relationship between the representations of the target language and the motiv! ation for learning. Moreover; this study shows the importance of understanding the complex nature of the representations of learners towards their mother tongue and the first language learnt in the classroom of French as a Foreign Language

Salz, Ronald Jay. "Investigating saltwater anglers' value orientations, beliefs and attitudes related to marine protected areas." 2002. https://scholarworks.umass.edu/dissertations/AAI3068590.

Abstract:
Marine protected areas (MPAs) have received much attention recently as an innovative approach to restoring and protecting valued ocean resources. The acceptability of MPAs in the U.S. will depend, to a large extent, on society's perceptions regarding the relevant costs and benefits of such areas. In order to incorporate social impact information into marine resource management decisions, it is necessary to study the values, beliefs and attitudes of affected stakeholders. The cognitive hierarchy model provides a theoretical framework for understanding relationships among these cognitions. According to this model, value orientations and beliefs can directly influence attitudes toward a particular attitude object. This study utilized the cognitive hierarchy model to investigate relationships among saltwater anglers' value orientations, beliefs and attitudes connected with MPAs. The moderating effects of recreation specialization and MPA knowledge on these relationships were also explored. Data were collected using a mail survey sent to a representative sample of private boat saltwater anglers in the Northeast United States. Attitudes were measured for four types of hypothetical MPAs ranging from least to most restrictive on saltwater anglers. Three value orientations (biocentric/anthropocentric, general marine resource values, and open access/ocean zoning) and three higher order beliefs (health of the oceans, impact of recreational fishing, and long-term effect of recreational catch reductions on fishing quality) were measured. Ocean zoning/open access value orientation and beliefs about the ocean's health were the best predictors of MPA attitudes. As hypothesized, anglers with ocean zoning value orientations hold more favorable attitudes towards marine protected areas than do anglers with open access value orientations. Similarly, anglers who believe that the oceans are in poor health hold more favorable attitudes towards marine protected areas than do anglers who believe the oceans are relatively healthy. Recreation specialization and MPA knowledge were not found to have a moderating effect for most cognitive relationships tested. However, for highly specialized anglers, the variable measuring beliefs about the impact of recreational fishing on the marine environment was significantly correlated with attitudes towards the MPA alternative allowing only “catch and release” recreational fishing. Implications of these results for marine resource policy and management are discussed.

Martin, Annjeanette. "Studying Spanish in Texas: an exploration of the attitudes and motivation of Anglos." 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/2152/7849.

Full text
Abstract:
Motivation has been widely studied in the field of second language learning as one of the most important predictors of linguistic proficiency. Initial studies suggested that socio-cultural factors such as attitudes toward the target group were strongly associated with a desire to learn and the effort expended in learning the target language. Though a second wave of studies emphasized more individual contributions to learner motivation, there has recently been a return to a more contextualized view of learning and the role that motivation plays within a given social context. The present study examines the specific socio-cultural context of the Southwestern U.S. in which Anglos, the dominant socio-linguistic group, have chosen to study Spanish, a minority language. Analyses address intensity of motivation, attitudes toward Spanish and Spanish speaking populations, and motivational orientations; this study also examines issues of social distance and discusses differences in perception regarding Spain and Mexico based on self-report questionnaires from the participants involved. Results indicate that Anglo learners of Spanish are moderately motivated to learn Spanish; though they responded quite positively on items related to desired fluency, participants do not seem necessarily willing to invest the time and effort required to achieve that fluency. Findings suggest that participants have somewhat neutral attitudes toward the Spanish language and Spanish speakers. Participants seem generally positive about the need for English speakers to understand and appreciate Hispanic culture; they are more reticent, however, on issues of language learning responsibilities. It also appears that participants have slightly more negative perceptions of Mexico than of Spain. In addition, results show that motivational intensity is moderately associated with attitudes, supporting many of the initial studies of motivation in language learning that found that more positive attitudes are associated with higher levels of motivation. Although many participants responded that they were only taking Spanish courses to fulfill the language requirement, they also seemed to recognize that there were other compelling reasons to study Spanish. Participants indicated that the usefulness of Spanish was the most important reason for studying the language and that a desire to have a more personal connection with the target group and culture was the least important reason.

Witt, Melissa Ann. "Anglos' and Latinos' Self-Regulation to Standards for Education and Parenthood." Diss., 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10161/5400.

Full text
Abstract:

The present research tested whether the lower educational achievement and greater incidence of parenthood among Latino relative to Anglo high school students arise from differences across ethnic groups in the standards held for these behaviors and whether these different standards and differential success across groups at meeting them contribute to ethnic group differences in self-esteem. I tested this regulatory model in two different research designs. In the first study, I used longitudinal data on race/ethnicity and attitudes, expectations, and behavioral outcomes for education and parenthood from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health, Udry, 2003). In the second study, I used an experimental design to test the causal mechanisms involved in this regulatory process. I assessed Anglo and Latina adolescent girls' standards in terms of explicit self-report ratings and then prompted them to imagine themselves in scenarios related to education or parenthood. After participants viewed the scenarios, I assessed their self-esteem and affect. In both studies, I anticipated that ethnic group differences in standards for education and parenting would help explain differences in behavioral outcomes for the groups, along with differences in ethnic group affect and self-esteem. These studies provided some evidence that Anglos espouse more favorable attitudes toward education and less favorable attitudes toward adolescent pregnancy than Latinos. As anticipated, adolescents experienced increases in self-esteem and positive affect when they acted in ways that confirmed valued standards.

Abstract:
General Aviation (GA) accidents constitute the majority of aviation related accidents. In the United States, there have been over 7,000 GA accidents compared to 190 airline accidents in the last 8 years. Flight data analysis has helped reduce the accident rate in commercial aviation. Similarly, safety analysis based on flight data can help GA be safer. The FAA mandates flight data recorders for multi-engine and turbine powered aircraft, but nearly 80% of General Aviation consists of single engine, of which only a small portion contain any form of data recording device. GA aircraft flight data recorders are costly for operating pilots. Low-cost flight recorders are few and rarely used in GA safety analysis due to lack of accuracy compared to the certified on-board equipment. In this thesis, I investigate the feasibility of using a low-cost Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) to detect hazardous states in GA aircraft. I considered the case of roll angles and found that the low-cost device has significant measurement errors. I developed models to correct the roll angle error as well as methods to improve the detection of hazardous roll angles. I devised a method to evaluate the time accuracy along with the angle accuracy and showed that despite the errors, the low-cost device can provide partial hazardous state detection information.

The aim of the study was to examine the effects of concept image game-based learning on the elementary students’ learning achievement, motivation, and attitudes in learning angle concepts. This quasi-experimental design study was conducted with 3 lessons in one week. The subjects were 81 students from 3 fifth-grade classrooms, who were assigned to one of three groups with different types of instruction: didactic teaching; concept image learning; and concept image game-based learning. The data of learning achievement was analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA); the data of learning motivation was analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA); and the data of attitudes was analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of the study showed that: (1) the students who received concept image game-based learning obtained greater learning achievement than the other two groups; (2) the group receiving concept image game-based learning also showed higher motivation than the other groups; and (3) most of the students had positive attitudes towards the use of concept image game-based learning.

The theme of this study is based on the "Angles Relating to Circles " unit discussing relationships with radians and angles to 5 angles which are Central Angle, Inscribed Angle, Chord Tangent Angle, Interior Angle of a Circle and Exterior Angle of a Circle in the Math Textbook for the ninth-grade students. In this study, the attitude, perceptions of cognitive load and effort in Math learning from various achievable students between discrete and derivative teaching contexts would be investigated. This experiment was based on a quasi-experimental design and 159 ninth-grade students from 6 average classes in a junior high school in Taoyuan city was adopted as participants. Various teaching contexts and students with different learning achievements were the independent variables while attitude in Math learning, perceptions of cognitive load and scores in post-test as well as delayed post-test were the dependent variables in this test. The investigative result was analyzed through a two-way ANOVA and showed in the following conclusions. 1. About teaching context and learning level, the significant interaction could be found of these 2 independent variables in the motivation of Math learning attitude and the knowledge dimension of post-test. The other dimension of post-test , delayed post-test ,cognitive load and Math learning attitude were failed to be found significant interaction. 2. The main effect about teaching context in the comprehension dimension of post-test as well as the total scores of the post-test, the discrete type group was obviously superior than the derivative type group. 3. The simple main effect about teaching context in the knowledge dimension of post-test of low achievement learner, the discrete type group was obviously superior than the derivative type group. 4. The two teaching contexts revealed no obvious differences in every independent variables of the delayed post-test achievement performance. 5. The main effect about teaching context in the class understanding of the perceptions of cognitive load, the discrete type group was obviously superior than the derivative type group; the main effect of the rest four dimensions were failed to reveal visible differences. 6. The main effect about teaching context in the learning pleasure of the Math learning attitude, the discrete type group was obviously superior than the derivative type group. 7. The simple main effect about teaching context in the learning motivation of the Math learning attitude to the middle and low achievement learners, the discrete type group was obviously superior than the derivative type group; the rest items were failed to reveal visible differences.

Abstract:
______________________________________________________________________________ MOTS-CLÉS DE L’AUTEUR : 1er mai, Communisme, Socialisme, Travail, Travailleurs, Canada.
