This paper investigates the problem of horse sacrifice in funeral rites using data of Bronze and Early Iron Age sepulchres in Armenia. Muscle dysfunction and muscle wasting are major systemic manifestations of chronic conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and cancer. Several biological mechanisms contribute to such a dysfunction. Our objectives were to identify cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the respiratory and peripheral muscle dysfunction of cachexia models associated with chronic respiratory conditions. During rescue archaeological excavations conducted prior to the construction of the Kazimierza Wielka bypass, remnants of a settlement associated with Early Bronze Age Bell Beaker and Mierzanowice cultures were uncovered. These traces were identified at sites 3, 5, and 13. Fireblight, a disease of apples and pears, is caused by Erwinia amylovora. Mutants of E. amylovora that do not produce the extreacellular polysaccharide (EPS), amylovoran, are avirulent. A similar EPS, stewartan, is produced by E. stewartii, which caused Stewart's wilt of corn, and which has also been implicated in the virulence of this strain. Both stewartan and amylovoran are type 1 capsular polysaccharides, typified by the colanic acid slime produced by Escherichia coli.
