Abstract A new calanoid copepod, Sursamucro rostratus sp. nov., belonging to the family Aetideidae, is described from female specimens collected in the northern Pacific and South Atlantic from abyssal waters close to the sea bed. The new species is the second of a rare deep-water genus, Sursamucro; it differs from its congener in size, configuration of the rostrum, the shape of the posterior corners of the prosome and details of antenna, mandible, maxillule and P1 setation. The genus Sursamucro is recorded for the first time from the northern Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean.

They are characterized by simple (under-developed, juvenile) morphological fea-tures, which are interpreted here as paedomorphic, indicating the importance of heterochrony in the evolution of deep-sea brachiopods. The genus Nybelinella belongs to the aphyonid clade within the Bythitidae. This mainly abyssal genus is known from 30 specimens. The present revision is based on 24 specimens, of which a scientific examination of four specimens has been published earlier. As a consequence, the generic diagnosis from Nielsen et al. (1999) is here modified. Of the 24 specimens 22 are referred to N. erikssoni (Nybelin, 1957), one to N. brevidorsalis Shcherbachev, 1976 and one to a new species, N. brevianalis n. sp., herein described.

Stylomesus weddellensis sp. nov. is described from the abyssal Weddell Sea, Southern Ocean. It can easily be distinguished from the other species of the genus by its typical spine pattern. Besides the long frontolaterally directed projections of pereonite 1, pereonites 1-3 bear two mediolateral to caudolateral blunt spines which are absent in all other Southern Ocean or South Atlantic species of Stylomesus Wolff, 1956. The pereopod 7 is present, and is not fused to pleotelson. A list of all currently known 17 species of Stylomesus is presented including data on depth and distribution.

Material collected from the RRS Discovery Cruise 300 to the Crozet Islands contained a new species of elasipodid holothurian Peniagone crozeti sp. nov. This new species dominated the megafauna at an abyssal site to the east of the islands under an area of high surface productivity, but was found in low abundance at a site located south of the islands under a high nutrient low chlorophyll regime, typical for many areas in the Southern Ocean. Peniagone crozeti differs from other members of the genus by the shape of its calcareous deposits.
