It tells the story of a listless little girl who stumbles into a magical world where gods relax in a palatial bathhouse, where there are giant babies and hard-working soot sprites, and where a train runs across the sea. Abstract:
Pimpinella anisum L. is an aromatic species of the Apiaceae (Parsley) family, commonly known as anise or aniseed. Fruits of the plant, which are also known as seeds, have widespread usage throughout the world for culinary and medicinal purposes, in cosmetics industry, and also is used in the flavoring of some alcoholic beverages, candies etc. Usage of the plant for medicinal purposes dates back to ancient Egypt and the plant is currently being used mainly for its digestive properties and hormonal activities such as increasing milk production in breast feeding mothers. The plant is sometimes confused with star anise, another species called Illicium verum Hook. f. from Schisandraceae family due to the fact that they both have trans-anethole within the composition of their volatile oils, though anise is an annual herbaceous plant and star anise is an evergreen tree. In this chapter composition, traditional usages, biological activities and some issues related to the utilization of this world-renowned plant are focused on.

This chapter seeks to discuss the digital humanities activity in the museological context, considering the importance of using digital technology tools for information dissemination in museum spaces and highlighting the period faced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The methodology used for the preparation of this chapter is defined as bibliographic and exploratory. Regarding the results obtained, it was possible to determine that using digital technology tools helps in cultural propagation from the informational dissemination of museological institutions in the virtual environment, which was indispensable during social isolation. In this sense, this chapter concludes the importance of using technological tools in the museological environment to reach various audiences without the interference of time/space.

Herbal medicine has long been used to prevent and control disease, and it can minimize the potential side effects of chemical products. However, side effects from herbs do exist. Most of the challenges with herbal medicine revolves around inadequate information about the effect of herbs in the oral cavity, the mechanism of action, and potential side effects. There are several herbs described in this chapter have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal in oral micro-organisms. It includes aloe vera, ginger, clove, cinnamon, garlic, neem, miswak, turmeric, tulsi, green tea, chamomile, fenugreek, anise plant, peppermint, bloodroot, caraway, eucalyptus, phyllanthus emblica, black seed, myrrh, rosemary, sage, and thyme; some may act as an alternative management option to current treatments for oral conditions such as caries prevention, gingivitis, periodontitis, oral burn, ulcers and inflammation, after extraction, dry mouth, pain reduction, anesthesia, intracanal medications, ill-fitting dentures, peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. It can be used in several forms such as mouthwashes, toothpastes, topical agents or local drug delivery devices. However, more research is needed to understand their mechanisms and potential side effects.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented many challenges to employees in every sector by forcing them to work remotely. Office working seems an unusual concept as everyone has had to readjust their lifestyles and working patterns to allow a working from home approach, alongside maintaining a work-life balance. This paper contributes with a prototype where working from home is re-imagined in a post-pandemic world. We explored the use of smartwatches to support the well-being of software developers. A human-centred design approach drives the prototype and evaluation. This paper relies on the User-Centred Design Framework. Data affinity analysis showed that isolation is a paramount problem for software developers working from home. Results show that all the participants involved in the study experienced the feeling of isolation while working from home, some being more extreme than others. While this solution focuses on a particular population, given that smartwatches have become more affordable and ubiquitous, this solution could benefit different types of office workers regardless of the type of work, socioeconomic status, or nationality. This paper investigates the use of smartwatches and virtual reality to support the wellbeing and isolation of people.

URZINKI, BO SIE URZINO. MOTIVATION OF DIALECTAL NAMES OF SWEETS (USING THE EXAMPLE OF MATERIAL FROM SILESIA) The subject of the present paper falls within the area of culinary studies in a broad sense. It aims to discuss dialectal names of sweets and to examine the semantic motivation behind these names. The foundation for the observations made in the paper consists of 78 culinary terms extracted from Lidia Przymuszała and Dorota Świtała-Trybek’s Leksykon dziedzictwa kulinarnego Śląska [‘A lexicon of the culinary heritage of Silesia’]. The analysis of the material revealed that the main factors underlying the semantic motivation of dialectal names of sweets include: the primary ingredient of the dish/product ( jabłecznik [‘apple cake’], makownik [‘poppy seed cake’], śliwczok [‘plum cake’]), additional ingredients (anyżki [‘anise-flavoured sweets’], zozworki [‘ginger-flavoured sweets’]), the absence of a certain ingredient (kołacz prosty [‘plain cake’], bidakuchen [‘poor cake’]), various methods of preparation of the dish (szulka [‘cinnamon-flavoured horn’], topielec [lit. ‘drowned man’], urzinki [lit. ‘cuttings’]), its organoleptic properties such as appearance (colour: białe pierniki [‘white gingerbread’], and shape: kamyczki [lit. ‘stones’], kopki [lit. ‘small heaps’], kulki [lit. ‘balls’]), sound (chrust [lit. ‘brushwood’], chrustki, chruściki), consistency (ciaplyta [lit. ‘goo’]), as well as temporal-occasional factors (martiny [lit. ‘St. Martin’], nowoletniki [lit. ‘new year’], radośnik [lit. ‘happy’]) or indicating the connection of the dish to a specific region, city or country (kopa ornontowicka [‘Ornontowice cake’], ciasteczka cieszyńskie [‘Cieszyn cookies’], kołacz pruski [‘Prussian cake’]).

Abstract:
Chapter 3 addresses an issue directly related to the institutional transformation of the art world explored in Chapter 2, namely how globalisation and migration have also changed the role and work of artists by providing many artists with new conditions of possibility for developing cross-cultural artistic practices. The chapter unpacks the issue of artists on the move today and seeks to answer the questions that the title implies: Have artists in demand on the global exhibition circuit become a kind of migrant workers in the international labour market of the global art world? If so, what kind of migrants are they? And what kind of artists? The careers and positions of selected artists from India – Bharti Kher, Rina Banerjee, Ravinder Reddy and Anish Kapoor – are used as examples to substantiate the chapter’s proposition that internationally renowned artists have in fact become a kind of migrant workers. Moreover, this change of conditions delivers a further blow to the myth of the artist as a detached creator, because it invites a more profound exploration of how the artist’s role has been reconfigured as that of a translator, mediator and bridge-builder between people and cultures.
