Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Homeland/diaspora dichotomies are emblematic of the Zionist philosophy and, as a consequence, also in the common critical annals of long-lasting diasporic ethnicities among Jewish immigrants to Israel. This observation applies in particular to Jewish immigrants from Islamic countries, whose Eastern pre-immigration cultures conceivably contrast with the Western character of the national-Zionist venture. In this article, I focus on MABAT, an Israel-based hometown association of Jews from the former Spanish-dominated area in northern Morocco which, from its founding in 1979, embraced the Zionist notion of homecoming. I show how they came to form their own singular network in Israel, while appealing to their former hometowns, as well as to their emerging centres of diffusion in the Americas and Europe, thereby challenging commonly held assumptions of Israel/diaspora, East/West dichotomies in the annals of Jewish ethnicities in Israel.

Abstract:
Pricing in the rough Heston model of Jaisson & M. Rosenbaum [(2016) Rough fractional diffusions as scaling limits of nearly unstable heavy tailed Hawkes processes, The Annals of Applied Probability 26 (5), 2860–2882] requires the solution of a fractional Riccati differential equation, which is not known in explicit form. Though numerical schemes to approximate this solution do exist, they inevitably require significantly more time to compute than the closed-form solution in the classical Heston model. In this paper, we present a simple rational approximation to the solution of the rough Heston Riccati equation valid in a region of its domain relevant to option valuation. Pricing using this approximation is both fast and very accurate.

Abstract:
Abstract. Aiming at the problems existing on the expression of atmospheric pollution dispersion, a data model of state-oriented and object-oriented hybrid modeling is designed. The model supports true three-dimensional grid representation and cellular automata deduction, and can combine the calculation and deduction of atmospheric pollution to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the model. The simulation experiments of single source and multi-source pollutants are carried out. The results show that: the model conforms to the diffusion law of atmospheric pollution. The pollutant concentration at any time, section or space in the whole diffusion process can be calculated and expressed dynamically, which improves the accuracy, rapidity, intuitiveness and analysation of the deduction of atmospheric pollutant diffusion process.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to explore the early days of business education with the aim of understanding how the Harvard Business School (HBS) contributed to the constitution of “management” as a science-based profession. The research focuses on HBS signature pedagogy, the case method and its role in the institutionalization of managerial knowledge. Design/methodology/approach The research is based on a qualitative content analysis of HBS Annals published between 1908 and 1930. Through a manual coding of the Annals, the paper traces the diffusion of the case method in the curriculum and connects it with the institutional transformations that took place between 1908 and 1930. Findings The data show how HBS curriculum transitioned from lectures to case teaching in the aftermath of First World War. This pedagogy allowed HBS to demonstrate the possibility of systematically investigate management problems and to deliver business education at scale. The discussion argues that the case method, acting as a boundary object between business praxis and management theories, constituted management as a science-based profession. Originality/value Recent debates have emerged about case method’s ability to critically question socio-economic structures within which business is conducted. This paper contributes to the debate arguing that the historical and institutional factors leading to the affirmation of this pedagogical approach had a substantive role in the type of knowledge produced through its application. The findings challenge the idea that the affirmation of the case method is attributable to its epistemological primacy in investigating business problems.

Abstract:
Spatial characteristics reveal the concentration of vaccine-preventable disease in Africa and the Near East and that disease dispersion is variable depending on disease. The exception is whooping cough, which has a highly variable center of concentration from year to year. Measles exhibited the only statistically significant spatial autocorrelation among all the diseases under investigation. Hottest spots of measles are in Africa and coldest spots are in United States, warm spots are in Near East and cool spots are in Western Europe. Finally, cases of measles could not be explained by the independent variables, including Gini index, health expenditure, or rate of immunization. Since the literature confirms that each of the selected variables is considered determinants of disease dissemination, it is anticipated that the global dataset of disease cases was influenced by reporting bias.

Abstract:
In this paper we propose the new change detection technique based on morphological comparative filtering. This technique generalizes the morphological image analysis scheme proposed by Pytiev. A new class of comparative filters based on guided contrasting is developed. Comparative filtering based on diffusion morphology is implemented too. The change detection pipeline contains: comparative filtering on image pyramid, calculation of morphological difference map, binarization, extraction of change proposals and testing change proposals using local morphological correlation coefficient. Experimental results demonstrate the applicability of proposed approach.

Abstract:
<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The Kennaugh framework turned out to be a powerful tool for the preparation of multi-sensor SAR data during the last years. Using intensity-based (an-) isotropic diffusion algorithms like the Multi-scale Multi-looking or the Schmittlets, even robust pre-classification change detection from multi-polarized images is enabled. The only missing point so far, namely the integration of multi-mode SAR data in one image, is accomplished in this article. Furthermore, the Kennaugh decomposition is extended to multi-spectral data as well. Hence, arbitrary Kennaugh elements, be it from SAR or optical images, can be fused. The mathematical description of the most general image fusion is derived and applied to four scenarios. The validation section considers the distribution of mean and gradient in the original and the fused images by the help of scatter plots. The results prove that the fused images adopt the spatial gradient of the input image with a higher geometric resolution and preserve the local mean of the input image with a higher polarimetric and thus also radiometric resolution. Regarding the distribution of the entropy and alpha angle, the fused images are always characterized by a higher variance in the entropy-alpha-plane and therewith, a higher resolution in the polarimetric domain. The proposed algorithm guarantees optimal information integration while ensuring the separation of intensity and polarimetric/spectral information. The Kennaugh framework is ready now to be used for the sharpening of multi-sensor image data in the spatial, radiometric, polarimetric, and even spectral domain.</p>

Abstract:
Abstract. The shortest path problem has been studied to be solved through diverse deterministic and also stochastic approaches such as Ant Colony Optimization. One of the most challenging issues with the implication of Ant Colony Optimization to solve the shortest path problem is parameter selection and tuning which is found crucial to improve the computational performance of problem-solving. To tune parameters, it is vital to observe the response of each parameter to different values and study their effect on the final results. In this research, two experiments are designed and conducted to study the behavior of parameters in terms of generated results and computational performance. In the first experiment, evaporation, updating, and transition rule parameters are studied by iterative execution of shortest path generation between nodes considering different parameter values. In the second experiment, the number of initial ants is studied. Inspecting the results, it is observed that to avoid premature stagnation decreasing α value is recommended. On the other hand, ρ is observed to be considered for tuning of speed and number of diffusions of the algorithm. Moreover, it is realized that a high Q value would result in more correct results. Inspecting the initial number of ants, a threshold is realized where increasing the number of ants over this threshold would drastically result in more optimized paths.

Abstract:
<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The effect of solar wind implanted volatiles into the top 100 nm of the lunar regolith plays a significant role in quantitatively assessing the lunar surface isotopic composition. In essence, these volatiles can either quickly sputter out of the surface or be retained. The implantation processes exhibit a functional dependency on the surface temperature, ilmenite abundance and the activation energy associated with the optical maturity of the lunar soil. The prime focus of this study is to simulate the implication of these incident volatiles in characterizing the regolith for a better insight into the modeling of lunar exosphere during both Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejection (ICME) and usual cases. Additionally, the proposed model quantifies the total lunar oxygen repository along with determining the associated textural and frequency domain measures for probable future lunar 3He mining sites. In this 30-day simulation, the particles bombard the reconstructed lunar grid wherein each cell displays varying particle density at a given local time. Moreover, both the activation energy and TiO2 content are assumed to be in a Gaussian distribution having (&amp;mu;, &amp;sigma;) of (0.96, 0.025) and (12.52, 3.44) respectively. It has been found that the surfaces characterized by high activation energy tend to retain solar wind implants due to the large numbers of crystal defects. However, for H and heavy trace ions, intermediate activation energy range demonstrates diurnal behavior with the diffusive loss at local noon time. The study also finds an intriguing relationship between the lunar O2 and retained H sites (frequency domain). Furthermore, this could be utilized as a generic exospheric modeling paradigm for airless bodies and contribute to the understanding of the physical processes associated with solar astronomy.</p>

Abstract:
Abstract. The high-resolution imaging spectroscopy remote sensing mission EnMAP (Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program, enmap.org) covers the spectral range from 420 nm to 2450 nm with a spectral sampling distance varying between 4.8 nm and 12.0 nm comprising 262 spectral bands. We focus on the planned framework concerning radiometry. The expected signal-to-noise ratio at reference radiance level is 500:1 at 495 nm and 150:1 at 2200 nm. The radiometric resolution is 14 bits and an absolute radiometric accuracy of better than 5% is achieved. Radiometric calibration is based on Sun calibration measurements with a fullaperture diffusor for absolute calibration. In addition, relative calibration monitors the instrument during the complete mission lifetime based on an integrating sphere (on the satellite). The fully-automatic on-ground image processing chain considers the derived radiometric calibration coefficients in the radiometric correction which is followed by the orthorectification and atmospheric compensation. Each of the two 2-dimensional detector arrays of the prism-based pushbroom dual-spectrometer works in a dual-gain configuration to cover the complete dynamic range. EnMAP will acquire 30 km in the across-track direction with a ground sampling distance of 30 m and the across-track tilt capability of 30° will enable a target revisit time of less than 4 days. The launch is scheduled for 2021. The high-quality products will be freely available to international scientific users for measuring and analysing diagnostic parameters which describe vital processes on the Earth’s surface.
