Abstract:
Under the French colonial period, in addition to the public school system, the French government has allowed the opening of many private schools to serve political goals and meet the learning needs of the people. To contribute to clarify the current situation of private schools in Annam during the French colonial period, based on documents of the French government including Decrees, Yearbook Reports, statistical documents... the article focuses on clarifying the The colonial government's private education policy from the second educational reform (1917 to 1945), at the same time restoring the private school system in Annam in terms of schools, programs, and studies, etc. On that basis, the author presents a few comments on private education in Annam since the second educational reform (from 1917 to 1945) and compare it with private education in Tonkin, Cochinchina during the same study period.

Abstract:
In this paper, we looked at “Tran Ich Tac(陳益稷)”, who surrendered to Yuan during the war with Yuan(元) during the Tran(Trần, 陳) Dynasty in Vietnam in the 13th and 14th centuries, as “King of Annam(安南國王)”. At that time, the Southern Song(南宋) conquest was carried out by Yuan and the conquest of Vietnam began, and discussions were being held on the side of the Tran Dynasty. Yuan made a strong demand for “Six Duties(六事)” against Vietnam at the time, of which it was strongly demanding “audience of the emperor(親朝)”. However, when the Tran Dynasty refused to do so, Khubilai appointed Tran Di Ai(陳遺愛), who had been dispatched as a Vietnamese envoy, to “King of Annam”. And this Yuan's move later affected Tran Ich Tac(陳益稷), and surrendered during the war between the two countries and was censured as “King of Annam”. Some argue that the reason for the surrender of Tran Ich Tac is to understand Yuan's internal situation. He also said that the reason for the surrender to Khubilai at the time was to protect the territory of the Tran Dynasty and the position of Jong-myo Shrine, but this was only a justification to unify the surrender of Tran Ich Tac and to satisfy the ambition he had brought before. However, it is noteworthy that the punishment for Tran Ich Tac was different from others in the process of punishing the surrender after the war and rationalized his surrender with the birth story, showing his influence within the Tran Dynasty, so inside Vietnam, Tran Ich Tac would not publicly inform him of the fact that he was accused of “king of Annam.”

Abstract Over coastal mountain ranges of the Asian monsoon region, heavy orographic rainfall is frequently associated with low precipitation-top heights (PTHs). This leads to conspicuous underestimation of rainfall using microwave radiometer algorithms, which conventionally assume that heavy rainfall is associated with high PTHs. Although topographically forced upward motion is important for rainfall occurrence, it does not fully constrain precipitation profiles in this region. This paper focuses on the thermodynamic characteristics of the atmosphere that determine PTHs in tropical coastal mountains of Asia (Western Ghats, Arakan Yoma, Bilauktaung, Cardamom, Annam Range, and the Philippines). PTHs of heavy orographic rainfall generally decrease with enhanced low- and midlevel relative humidity, especially during the summer monsoon. In contrast, PTHs over the Annam Range of the Indochina Peninsula increase with enhanced low-level and midlevel relative humidity during the transition from boreal summer to winter monsoon, demonstrating that convection depth is not simply a function of humidity. Instead, PTHs of heavy orographic rainfall decreased with increasing low-level stability for all monsoon regions considered in this study, as well as the Annam Range during the transition from boreal summer to winter monsoon. Therefore, low-level static stability, which inhibits cloud growth and promotes cloud detrainment, appears to be the most important parameter in determining PTHs of heavy rainfall in the Asian monsoon region.

Abstract:
In the late nineteenth century, the distance from Qui Nhon to Kontum – a trip of about two hundred kilometers – was nearly insurmountable. The route most travellers took led from the port town in southern Annam out across a narrow coastal plain of cultivated fields before crossing rivers and gorges, and ascending rocky mountains. Then the path leveled out on a high plateau of extreme weather and dense forests where fever, tigers, and unwelcoming local communities intimidated even the hardiest of travellers. Though well within the borders of French-controlled Annam, there was little Vietnamese – and even less French – about these highlands. The region was inhabited almost exclusively by a variety of indigenous groups like the Sedang, the Bahnar, and thejarai, who were both ethnically distinct from the majority Vietnamese population of Annam, and politically independent from the emperor in Hué as well as the French colonial administration. The region was so isolated from the rest of the colony that Frenchmen invoked the Vietnamese name for the area, calling it the Pays Moï– ‘savages' country’ – and even the missionaries, the only Europeans to live in the region until the early 1900s, referred to their headquarters in Kontum as the ‘Mission des Sauvages’. It was an unlikely focal point for one of the most divisive controversies in the French empire.

AbstractThe sudden Mongol withdrawal from Hungary in 1242 has been explained by historians in several ways and no consensus about the reason has ever been reached. Contrary to some previously expressed opinions, it was not an unparalleled event: a similar withdrawal from a successful invasion of the Song empire in southern China occurred in 1260. The parallels between the events of 1242 and 1260 are instructive, and strongly suggest that the deaths of the Khaghans Ögödei, in 1241, and Möngke, in 1259, were the basic reasons for breaking off the campaigns. The full explanation is more complex, however. The Mongol invasions of Dali and Annam in the 1250s are also briefly examined, and it is pointed out that a Mongol army led by Uriyangkhadai successfully invaded Song from Annam in 1259, a fact that has often been overlooked.

Abstract:
The marketing literature so far only considers attraction models with strict functional forms. Greater exibility can be achieved by the neural net based approach introduced which assesses brands' attraction values by means of a perceptron with one hidden layer. Using log-ratio transformed market shares as dependent variables stochastic gradient descent followed by a quasi-Newton method estimates parameters. For store-level data the neural net model performs better and implies a price response qualitatively different from the well-known MNL attraction model. Price elasticities of these competing models also lead to specific managerial implications. (author's abstract)

Attraction models are very popular in marketing research for studying the effects of marketing instruments on market shares. However, so far the marketing literature only considers attraction models with certain functional forms that exclude threshold or saturation effects on attraction values. We can achieve greater exibility by using the neural net based approach introduced here. This approach assesses brands' attraction values by means of a perceptron with one hidden layer. For store-level data, neural net models perform better and imply a price response that is qualitatively different from the well-known multinomial logit attraction model. Abstract:
This thesis investigates empirically the manufacturing sector in Vietnam during the period 2000-2006. The main objective is to provide a comprehensive analysis on the technical performance, and workplace safety of this sector. The analysis uses the sub-dataset for the manufacturing sector extracted from the annual Vietnam Enterprise Surveys for the period under consideration. Chapter one provides an overview of the economic renovation (commonly called Doi moi). The chapter reviews milestones in the Doi moi process and its consequences in terms of economic structural changes, trade, and investment. Chapter two describes the dataset used in the thesis and the construction of the key variables adopted in the subsequent chapters. Chapter three estimates technical efficiency in the Vietnam's manufacturing sector. The chapter explores if, among other things, the estimates of technical efficiency obtained using the stochastic frontier approach are sensitive to the different distributional and econometric assumptions. Based on several test results, the chapter concludes that average manufacturing sector operated at 62 percent of its technical efficiency. Chapter four investigates empirically the determinants of technical efficiency in the Vietnam's manufacturing sector using both mean and quantile regression approaches. Results suggested that types of ownership, feminization, and compliance of firms to labour market regulation are among important determinants of technical efficiency. Notably, there is a positive, albeit modest impact of trade liberalization on technical performance of the manufacturing sector and this impact is most pronounced for the least technically efficient firms. Chapter five focuses attention on workplace injuries in the manufacturing sector. As data on workplace injuries in Vietnam is very limited, a number of experiments was tried to find the most relevant estimation strategy. The chapter finally adopts a probit model and a simple OLS to inform determinants of workplace injuries. Results suggest that types of ownership and firm size are important factors that exert influences on workplace injuries reported. Interestingly, the foreign-invested sector was found to be the worst performer compared to the domestic counterparts in terms of technical efficiency and workplace safety. Drawing from these chapters, some policy conclusions, limitations of the current exercise, and outlines of possible agenda for future research in this area are discussed in the conclusion section.

Partie intégrante du plan Navarre, l'opération Atlante fut menée au cours du premier semestre 1954 par les forces franco-vietnamiennes en Annam contre le Lien Khu V (bastion Viêt-minh s'étendant depuis 1945 sur quatre provinces). La France voulait reprendre l'initiative au sud du 16e parallèle et soutenir l'engagement massif des toutes jeunes Forces Armées Vietnamiennes dans une opération majeure de prestige pour montrer la crédibilité d'un gouvernement vietnamien agissant au sein de l'Union française. La première phase de deux mois (Aréthuse) permit dans un élan victorieux la conquête et la pacification du Phu Yen, première province du Lien Khu V. Durant la seconde phase (Axelle 13 mars - 15 juin), les troupes furent arrêtées sur leur ligne de départ en dépit de la réussite d'un grand débarquement à Qui-Nhon. Elles durent s'opposer pendant les combats de Dien Bien Phu, à une très violente offensive Viêt-minh sur les Plateaux Montagnards et faire face à un rapide pourrissement de la situation en zone arrière. Enfin au cours des deux derniers mois, correspondant aux négociations des accords de Genève, les troupes menèrent de violents combats pour garder les maigres acquis territoriaux et ne pas se faire submerger. Cette thèse tire les enseignements de ces opérations de pacification : civils et militaires doivent agir de concert selon des plans étroitement coordonnés ; les forces ne s'improvisent pas et il est dangereux de se fonder sur des unités fragiles, mal encadrées et sous-entraînées. La pacification constitue un mode d'action du temps de guerre que les forces doivent conduire en bénéficiant d'un rapport de forces écrasant (de 15 à 20 contre 1)
Integral part of the French Plan Navarre, the operation Atlante was conducted by the French and Vietnamese forces during the first half of 1954, against the Lien Khu V (a Vietminh stronghold established in Annam since the end of the WW II). France expected to take the initiative in the south of the 16th parallel in supporting the first massive involvement of the new Vietnamese Armed Forces. France wanted to prove the credibility of a Vietnamese Government acting in the framework of the French Union. Aréthuse, the first phase of the operation, achieved the conquest and the pacification of the Phu Yen, the first Vietminh province. The second phase, Axelle, took place during the battle of Dien Bien Phu and the beginning of the negotiations in Geneva, forcing the troops to carry out fierce fighting in order to block a robust Viêt-minh offensive towards the south of the Mountain Plateaux. The situation continued to get worse during June and July, after the end of Atlante, in the strict sense. This thesis emphasizes on lessons learned from these operations of pacification : civilians and the military have to cooperate closely in accordance to co-ordinated plans ; you cannot improvise forces just like that, and it is hazardous to build plans based upon fragile, poorly supervised and under-trained units. Pacification is a course of action belonging to wartime. To achieve their goals, units have to act with a very favourable balance of power (from 15 to 20 vs. 1)

Dès la conquête de la Cochinchine en 1862, l’Administration coloniale et des particuliers français exploitèrent l’agriculture locale et y développèrent l’économie. Ils tentèrent de faire l’essai et d’introduire diverses cultures, en particulier des arbres à caoutchouc. L’année 1897 marqua le début de l’hévéaculture de Cochinchine, lorsqu’on planta avec succès près de deux mille hévéas brasiliensis. La superficie de l’hévéaculture en Cochinchine se développait prodigieusement, allant de cent hectares à la fin du XIXème siècle à près de cent mille hectares au début des années trente, grâce d’une part à des capitaux provenant de la Métropole et, d’autre part à des mesures d’encouragement du Gouvernement colonial. Les plantations d’hévéa attirèrent les travailleurs locaux, surtout en provenance du Tonkin et de l’Annam, à raison d’une dizaine de mille, parfois une vingtaine de mille par an.Parallèlement à l’extension des superficies plantées, la production du caoutchouc de la colonie s’accrut rapidement, allant d’un peu plus d’une tonne en 1908 à plus de soixante mille tonnes en 1939. Les plantations d’hévéa devinrent l’une des cultures les plus importantes de Cochinchine à l’époque coloniale française. Non seulement elles apportèrent la fortune aux planteurs de la colonie, mais elles assurèrent une partie, et depuis 1938, la totalité des besoins de caoutchouc de l’industrie métropolitaine. Les plantations d’hévéa de Cochinchine représentaient un symbole de la colonisation agricole française, mais aussi hélas l’une des pages noires de l’histoire du colonialisme français au Vietnam par l’exploitation brutale des planteurs envers les travailleurs vietnamiens
As early as the conquest of Cochinchina in 1862, the colonial administration and French individuals exploited the local agriculture and developed the economy there. They tried to experiment and introduce various crops, especially rubber trees. The year of 1897 marked the beginning of the rubber plantation of Cochinchina, when two thousand rubber trees brasiliensis were successfully planted. The area of rubber tree plantation in Cochinchina grew tremendously, ranging from one hundred hectares at the end of the 19th century to nearly one hundred thousand hectares in the early 1930s, because of, on the one hand, the capital invested from the metropolis, and, on the other hand, the measures of encouragement taken by the colonial Government. The rubber plantations attracted local workers, mainly from Tonkin and Annam, at a rate of about 10.000, sometimes 20.000 persons a year. In parallel with the extension of the area of rubber plantation, the colonial rubber production rapidly increased from just over one tonne in 1908 to more than 60.000 tons in 1939.The rubber tree plantation became one of the most important crops of Cochinchina during the French colonial era. Not only they brought fortune to the planters of the colony, but they secured a part, and since 1938, the whole of the rubber demands of the metropolitan industries. The Cochinchina rubber plantations represented a symbol of French agricultural colonization and, unfortunately, one of the black pages of the history of French colonialism in Vietnam by the brutal exploitation of Vietnamese workers by rubber planters

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis was to examine how the media representation of elite skiers Anna Holmlund and Thomas Fogdö was altered following their accidents resulting in disabilities. In order to examine this a critical discourse analysis was performed on 16 newspaper articles from Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå, Expressen, Dagens Nyheter, Göteborgs-posten, Sundsvalls Tidning and Aftonbladet, out of which eight of them had been published before the skiers respective accidents and the other eight afterwards. The results showed that swedish newspapers shifted their focus from how the skiers performed in competitions prior to their accidents to how their bodies functioned and how they would perform everyday tasks following the accidents. We found that this would distance Holmlund and Fogdö, representing them as deviants when compared to non-disabled people. In contrast to this we found that Holmlund and Fogdö would be allowed to talk about or show their lives and bodies in great detail. This would seem to function as a way of teaching non-disabled people of what it’s like to live with a disability. Through this Holmlund and Fogdö were represented as ambassadors for the disabled collective. We also found that there was a risk of objectification which would increase in connection with a decrease in Holmlund and Fogdö’s represented ability to communicate and function as a non-disabled person does. This also appears to increase the risk of having one’s voice excluded by other people talking in one’s place.

Sjuksköterskans fyra huvudansvar såsom att främja hälsa, förebygga sjukdomar, återställa hälsa och lindra lidande kan försvåras och förhindras av eventuella språkbarriärer. För att svara till studiens syfte har studiedesignen systematisk litteraturöversikt använts. I aktuellt arbete har tio stycken kvalitativa artiklar valts ut från databaserna Cinahl, Pubmed och Psychinfo enligt bestämda inklusions- och exklusionskriterier vilka därefter har kvalitetsgranskats. I artiklarna benades de två huvudtemana kommunikationssvårigheter och tolkbruk ut. Konsekvenserna av kommunikationssvårigheter visar sig kunna resultera i felbehandling av patienter, ökade kostnader samt bristfällig sekretesshantering. Personalen inom vården har också visat sig funnit på egna strategier som kan hjälpa dom i samtalet med patienterna. Detta leder in på det andra huvudtemat i resultatet vilket är hur olika tolkbruk kan se ut. I de flesta fall visar det sig att sjukvårdspersonal använder sig av den som är närmast till hands och kan kommunicera på aktuellt språk vilket då gärna blir kollegor, anhöriga och eller vänner. Kvaliteten på det tolkade samtalet är således skiftande beroende på vilket typ av tolk som används. Syftet med litteraturstudien var att belysa sjuksköterskors, samt i viss mån övrig vårdpersonals erfarenheter av att kommunicera med patienter med annat modersmål än ens egna samt eventuellt användande av tolk i dessa situationer.
Migration has always existed, but has increased more and more recently, which has led to increased demands for adaptation of communication in healthcare. The nurse's four main responsibilities such as promoting health, preventing illness, restoring health and alleviating suffering can be made more difficult and prevented by any language barriers. In order to meet the purpose of this study, the study design used is a systematic literature review. In the current paper, ten qualitative articles have been selected from the databases Cinahl, PubMed and Psychinfo according to specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, which have subsequently been quality checked. In the articles, the two main themes of communication difficulties and interpretation were pointed out. The consequences of communication difficulties can prove to result in malpractice of patients, increased costs and inadequate confidentiality management. The healthcare staff has also found their own strategies that can help them in talking to patients. This leads to the second main theme of the result, which is how different interpretations can be seen. In most cases, it turns out that healthcare professionals make use of the closest person whom is able to communicate in the current language, which often is a colleague, a relative and or a friend. The quality of the interpreted conversation is varied depending on the type of interpreter at hand. The purpose of the literature study was to elucidate nurses, and to some extent the experience of other nursing staff in communicating with patients with other native language than their owns as well as the use of an interpreter in these situations.

Abstract:
La répartition des sucres requiert l'activité de transporteurs membranaires et représente une étape cruciale dans la réponse de la plante au déficit hydrique. Les séquences de 63 transporteurs de sucres ont été identifiées chez la Vigne. L'analyse in silico a identifié 7 sous familles de tranporteurs de monosaccharides et plusieurs élements cis de régulation dans les promoteurs. L'analyse d'expression par macroarray a permis d'identifier 4 gènes de transporteurs fortement exprimés dans tous les organes végétatifs (VvHT1, VvHT3, VvPMT5, VvSUC27), d'autres préférentiellement exprimés dans les feuilles matures (VvHT5), les racines (VvHT2) et les pépins (VvHT3, VvHT5) et 3 régulés au cours du développement de la baie (VvHT2, VvTMT1, VvTMT2). L'analyse par macroarray révèle que l'expression de VvHT5, VvSUC11, VvGIN2 et VvMSA est induite dans les feuilles matures, en réponse au déficit hydrique alors que l'expression de VvHT1 est inhibée. La carence en eau déclenche l'accumulation de glucose, fructose et saccharose dans les feuilles matures de Vigne. Le gène VvMSA a été surexprimé ou réprimé dans des cellules embryogènes de Vigne génétiquement modifiées. La répression de VvMSA diminue l'activité d'absorption du glucose et l'expression de VvHT1. Le phénotype des vitroplants régénérés ainsi que l'expression de VvHT1 et VvMSA ont été étudiés en condition in vitro et ex vitro. Les résultats obtenus suggèrent la présence d'une voie de régulation de l'expression du gène VvHT5 par le fructose. Un modèle de la signalisation glucidique dans l'expression du gène VvHT1 est proposé, comprenant une voie de régulation par les disaccharides et deux par le glucose, un VvMSA-dépendant et un VvMSA-indépendant
Sugar allocation mediated by membrane transporters is strongly affected by water deficit. The sequences of 63 sugar transporters were identified in Grapevine. The in silico analysis identify 7 monosaccharide transporters subfamilies and several cis elements in the promoter regions. Macroarray expression analysis showed that 4 sugar transporter genes are strongly expressed in all vegetative organs (VvHT1, VvHT3, VvPMT5, VvSUC27), some others are preferentially expressed in mature leaf (VvHT5), in root (VvHT2), in seed (VvHT3, VvHT5) and 3 genes are regulated during berry development (VvHT2, VvTMT1, VvTMT2). Macroarray gene expression analysis showed that VvHT5, VvSUC11, VvGIN2 and VvMSA are up-regulated in mature leaves under drought conditions and that VvHT1 was down-regulated. Water deficit triggers a strong accumulation of glucose, fructose and sucrose in water stressed leaves. VvMSA gene was overexpressed or silenced in grape embryogenic cells by genetic transformation. The silencing of VvMSA affects glucose uptake activity and VvHT1 expession. The Grapevine plants phenotype and the expression of VvHT1 and VvMSA expression were studied under both in vitro and ex-vitro conditions. For the first time, the involvement of sugar transporters and VvMSA in the response to water stress in Grapevine is demonstrated. A model for sugar signalling involved in VvHT1 gene expression is proposed, including a disaccharide pathway and two glucose regulatory mechanisms, one VvMSA-dependent and another VvMSA-independent. Finally, our results reveal the importance of VvHT1 hexoses transporter under heterotrophic conditions

Nach außen werden die Neuerungen durch den Unternehmensvorstand repräsentiert. So werden zwar Annas Innovationen sichtbar und wirksam, sie selbst bleibt jedoch unsichtbar. Der Fall zeichnet gängige Geschlechterdynamiken im Innovationsprozess nach und wie diese zur Unsichtbarkeit von Innovator:innen im Besonderen und von Frauen in Führungspositionen im Allgemeinen führen können. Dilde çekim edatları dil bilgiselleşmenin ilk basamağını oluşturur. Sözlüksel anlamdan dil bilgisel anlama geçişin ilk basamağı da anlam boşanmasıdır. Dilbilim çalışmalarında “anlamsızlaşma” (desemantication) olarak da adlandırılan bu aşamada sözlüklerde belirgin anlamları olan biçimbirimler, sözlüklerde belirgin anlamları olmayan ancak kullanıldığı bağlam içerisinde çeşitli anlamlar kazanan yani dil bilgisel anlamlara sahip olan biçimbirimlere dönüşürler. Türkçede de bu özelliğe sahip geniş bir edat topluluğu bulunmaktadır. Bunlar içerisinde yer alan “ışığında” çekim edatı da Türkiye Türkçesinde günümüze daha yakın zamanlarda anlam boşanmasına uğrayarak dil bilgisel anlam kazanmış sözcüklerdendir. Bu çalışmada ilgili çekim edatı yapı, kullanım ve anlam özellikleri bakımından değerlendirilmiştir
