O presente trabalho visa analisar criticamente a operação de tradução intersemiótica do poema The Tyger, de William Blake, no romance The Tale Of The Body Thief, de Anne Rice.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this study, annealed glutinous rice flour treated under different conditions (ANN1, ANN2 and ANN3) were prepared. The structure as well as physicochemical characteristics of the flour and its dumpling products were investigated. The crystallinity of the annealed flour samples increased, while the hydration ability decreased. The content of bound water raised, and immobilized water as well as the freezing enthalpy value decreased for the fast-frozen dumplings made from annealed flour samples. It showed that annealed treatment could reduce the formation of large ice crystals, thus decrease the cracking of fast-frozen dumplings. The freezing enthalpy value of annealed dumplings decreased which was conducive to protect the structure and quality of products. The boiled dumplings made of annealed flour had better eating quality as demonstrated by the increase in the transmittance of the soup. It indicated that moderate annealed glutinous rice flour ANN2 had optimal physicochemical properties to make high quality dumplings. This study would pave the way for further study of the annealing glutinous rice flour and provide theoretical guidance for the application of annealing treatment in starchy food product.

Endogenous gibberellins of chrysanthemum [Dendrathema×grandiflorum (Ramat) cv. Bright Golden Anne] were characterized in preparation for quantification of endogenous gibberellins in apices under control and CuSO4 spectral filters. Expanding shoots were separated into young expanding leaves and apices. Methanolic extracts of young expanding leaves were purified by solvent partitioning, PVPP column chromatography, and reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography. Two bioactive regions corresponding to the HPLC retention times of GA and GA19 standards were detected in fractions using the recently developed non-dwarf rice bioassay. Dideuterated internal standards of GA12, GA53, GA19, GA20, and GA1 were added to similar extracts of shoot apices. The presence of endogenous GA53, GA19, GA20, and GA1 in chrysanthemum apices was confirmed by isotope dilution using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry-selected ion monitoring and Kovats retention indices. Ions for the deuterated internal standard of GA12 were detected, but not for endogenous GA12. The above results demonstrate that the early 13-hydroxylation pathway operates in chrysanthemum.

Abstract:

Abstract:
ABSTRACTMicrobial mats in marine cold seeps are known to be associated with ascending sulfide- and methane-rich fluids. Hence, they could be visible indicators of anaerobic oxidation of methane (AOM) and methane cycling processes in underlying sediments. The Napoli mud volcano is situated in the Olimpi Area that lies on saline deposits; from there, brine fluids migrate upward to the seafloor. Sediments associated with a brine pool and microbial orange mats of the Napoli mud volcano were recovered during the Medeco cruise. Based on analysis of RNA-derived sequences, the “active” archaeal community was composed of many uncultured lineages, such as rice cluster V or marine benthic group D. Function methyl coenzyme M reductase (mcrA) genes were affiliated with the anaerobic methanotrophicArchaea(ANME) of the ANME-1, ANME-2a, and ANME-2c groups, suggesting that AOM occurred in these sediment layers. Enrichment cultures showed the presence of viable marine methylotrophicMethanococcoidesin shallow sediment layers. Thus, the archaeal community diversity seems to show that active methane cycling took place in the hypersaline microbial mat-associated sediments of the Napoli mud volcano.

Abstract:
High temperature stress is a major environmental factor that affects crop growth, development and yield, it especially limits rice yield. Hence, an experiment was conducted to study the impact of high temperature on morpho-physiological parameters and yield of rice genotypes. Ten rice genotypes were used in this study viz., N22, ADT 36, ADT 37, ADT 43, ADT 45, CO 51, ASD 16, MDU 6, TPS 5 and Anna (R) 4. The study was carried out at OTC (Open Top Chamber) with the treatments of ambient, ambient +2O C and ambient +4O C. Stress was imposed from anthesis to early grain filling period. Observations on plant height, the number of tillers, leaf area, SPAD (Chlorophyll index) and chlorophyll stability index (CSI) were done after the stress imposement and grain yield was calculated after harvest. Results revealed that, the significant changes were observed in morpho-physiological traits and grain yield of rice genotypes among the treatments and with the genotypes. N22 (10% and 19%) and Anna (R) 4 (12% and 22%) recorded less reduction of grain yield in ambient +2O C and ambient +4O C compared with ambient, due to less reduction of total chlorophyll content, SPAD values, leaf area and increased plant height. These parameters resulted in higher biomass which indirectly contributed to higher grain yield in N22 and Anna (R) 4 under high temperature

Abstract:
The research is an attempt to analyze female body images in the poetry by Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath and Adrienne Rich. Special attention is paid to the concept of women’s writing, modern theories of corporeality, sexuality and the problems of the body and the language, which have been considered as major features of women’s poetry in the second half of the 20th century. The theoretical background of the article is based on the works of Hélène Cixous, Luce Irigaray, Julia Kristeva, Jane Gallop, Alicia Ostriker, Christina Britzolakis, Jacqueline Rose, in which they defined the concepts of women's writing and language, women's subject, bodiness and corporality. The article analyzes a number of related issues: firstly, it determines how well-known theories of women's writing are consistent with the peculiarities of the female experience and its realization in a poetic text, especially on the level of the themes and motifs; secondly, it studies how the female body images are expressed in the poetry by Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath and Adrienne Rich, what are the similarities between their corporeal imagery and what are the differences. The article analyses modern feminist works as well as gender studies.

Abstract:
Scholarly neglect of the English Queen Anne of Bohemia (1366–1394) has persisted as an island of unchallenged sexism and Anglophone provincialism almost up to the present day. Fortunately, this lacune has been addressed in recent years, especially by Thomas’s own Anne’s Bohemia: Czech Literature and Society, 1310–1420 (1998). His Reading Women is a rich and compelling addition to the author’s earlier work on the pan-European culture of Bohemia, especially as popularized in England by Richard II’s Queen Anne. It aims to provide an essential context for the works of Chaucer by elucidating Anne as educated reader and literary patron, in short, “the ideal embodiment of the European cosmopolitanism he wished to emulate” (10). Supporting this aim, as a tremendous value-added to the chapters of textual analysis, Thomas intercalates English translations of medieval works in Czech—such as the Life of St. Catherine and the satirical Wycliffite Woman—that may be otherwise difficult to access. These are presented as analogues, not necessarily sources, for their English counterparts.

Abstract:
The secondperson narration in the writing of malaise. The comparative analysis of A Man Asleep by Georges Perec and L’Inconsolable by Anne Godard (Part Two) Suspension between life and death is not the only one that heroes of Gerorges Perec and Anne Godard, accompanied by a reader, have to undergo. The grammatical second person applied in order to represent the characters implies actually a particular plurality of voices which creates in a paradoxical way these two silent heroes. Moreover, devoid of anchor point unlike other grammatical persons, it makes them constantly suspended in time and space. Therethrough, A Man Asleep and L’Inconsolable cannot be treated just like rewritings of common myths: they represent a new quality in the history of literature, very dynamic and rich in interpretations.

Abstract:
Anne Fairbrother Hill was a member of a popular 19th-century family of theatrical entertainers. Following a successful career as a dancer and ingénue in London and the provinces she came to America in the 1840s with her actor/manager husband, Charles Hill, and their three children. The Hills toured widely, but they also spent considerable time in Montreal and Toronto. Anne Hill was instrumental in introducing Canadian audiences to the rich repertoire of the Romantic ballet. A talented teacher, she opened very successful dance schools in both Toronto and Montreal, assisting amateurs in both cities to mount their own theatrical productions. In the 1860s she settled permanently in Montreal where she continued to appear on stage in character roles until shortly before her death.

Abstract:
Abstract Abstract. Long-term adherence to adjuvant endocrine therapy (ET, tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors) is paramount for patients with early-stage breast cancer. Adherence to adjuvant endocrine therapy is hampered by numerous side effects associated with sustained estrogen deprivation. We aimed to describe recent real-world patterns of therapy, patients’ discontinuations of ET, toxicities, quality of life (QoL) and to develop a predictive model of early ET discontinuation. Methods. We used the first 9595 patients of the French CANTO cohort (NCT01993498), to evaluate among 6238 premenopausal and postmenopausal patients with HR+/HER2- stage I-III BC, who were prescribed adjuvant ET: a. treatment patterns of adjuvant ET including change of ET prescription during the follow-up course b. ET-associated toxicities and c. impact on QoL. Independent variables included medical history and toxicities as measured by : Common Toxicity Criteria Adverse Events (CTCAE) v4, Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) including European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaires (QLQ-C30) and Breast Cancer Module (BR23), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Treatment discontinuation and treatment change were determined on the basis of patient’s declaration and medical decisions reported in the CANTO eCRF. We used patient data at 4 months from therapy initiation to train and evaluate on a held-out test set a machine-learning model (gradient-boosted trees) that is predictive of time to early discontinuation i.e. permanent discontinuation before four years of additional therapy. Results. 4052 post-menopausal patients and 2186 premenopausal patients were included in this analysis. Median follow-up after ET initiation is 3 years and 2 months. 86% of post-menopausal patients were prescribed a non-steroidal AI initially and 92% of premenopausal patients received tamoxifen first. Discontinuation rate of the first adjuvant endocrine therapy at 1 year was 14% and 10% in premenopausal and post-menopausal patients, respectively. Among 741 post-menopausal and 340 premenopausal patients who started a second ET, discontinuation of the second prescribed adjuvant ET at 1 additional year of therapy is 30% in both populations. Patients who switched from a first adjuvant ET to a second or further one continued to have more treatment-related toxicities and associated decrements in QoL. Exclusions due to data completeness and outcome definition led to 5331 patients being used for the model (4264 in the training set and 1067 in the validation set). In that population, the permanent discontinuation rate at 3 years is 6%. Our prediction model of time to early discontinuation obtains a C-index of 0.78 in the held-out validation set. Conclusion. Tolerability and continued adherence to ET remains a challenge for many patients. Early discontinuation models may assist in identifying patients who are likely to interrupt their adjuvant ET. Adapted clinical management, including robust support and management of toxicities, as well as new and more tolerable adjuvant endocrine therapies may improve the clinical outcomes of these patients. Abstract:
ABSTRACT Microbial communities in hydrothermally active sediments of the Guaymas Basin (Gulf of California, Mexico) were studied by using 16S rRNA sequencing and carbon isotopic analysis of archaeal and bacterial lipids. The Guaymas sediments harbored uncultured euryarchaeota of two distinct phylogenetic lineages within the anaerobic methane oxidation 1 (ANME-1) group, ANME-1a and ANME-1b, and of the ANME-2c lineage within the Methanosarcinales, both previously assigned to the methanotrophic archaea. The archaeal lipids in the Guaymas Basin sediments included archaeol, diagnostic for nonthermophilic euryarchaeota, and sn-2-hydroxyarchaeol, with the latter compound being particularly abundant in cultured members of the Methanosarcinales. The concentrations of these compounds were among the highest observed so far in studies of methane seep environments. The δ-13C values of these lipids (δ-13C = −89 to −58‰) indicate an origin from anaerobic methanotrophic archaea. This molecular-isotopic signature was found not only in samples that yielded predominantly ANME-2 clones but also in samples that yielded exclusively ANME-1 clones. ANME-1 archaea therefore remain strong candidates for mediation of the anaerobic oxidation of methane. Based on 16S rRNA data, the Guaymas sediments harbor phylogenetically diverse bacterial populations, which show considerable overlap with bacterial populations of geothermal habitats and natural or anthropogenic hydrocarbon-rich sites. Consistent with earlier observations, our combined evidence from bacterial phylogeny and molecular-isotopic data indicates an important role of some novel deeply branching bacteria in anaerobic methanotrophy. Anaerobic methane oxidation likely represents a significant and widely occurring process in the trophic ecology of methane-rich hydrothermal vents. This study stresses a high diversity among communities capable of anaerobic oxidation of methane.

Abstract:
From her perspective as a public school kindergarten teacher, Anne Martin examines the effects of special needs intervention on classroom life. She finds that frequently a special education focus results in an overemphasis on children's weaknesses. Moreover, she believes that special educators often ignore the classroom teacher's key role in helping children learn and grow. The author offers alternative suggestions for helping children that rely on collaboration among teachers to produce a rich understanding of the context of individual children's lives in school.

Abstract:
Echinochloa phyllopogonis a serious weed of California rice that has evolved resistance to most grass herbicides. We assessed differences in growth, interference, and fecundity between multiple resistant (R) and susceptible (S)E. phyllopogon. Interference with rice by R and S plants was similar, although R plants were shorter and had less leaf area and shoot biomass than S plants. Interference by one S or RE. phyllopogonplant with rice was 2.31 or 2.45 times greater than intraspecific interference by one rice plant, respectively. Interference was mostly driven by root interactions andE. phyllopogonon average produced seven times more root dry weight than rice. DeeperE. phyllopogonroot placement compared with rice may explain niche differentiation between the two species. On average, R plants produced 55% less seeds than S plants. Lower fecundity could compromise fitness of R plants in the absence of herbicide selection, but partial avoidance of seed removal during rice harvest through earlier seed shattering may allow greater soil seed bank replenishment by R plants compared with S plants.E. phyllopogoncontrol is needed to prevent high rice yield losses, and suppressing survivors of initial herbicide treatments is essential to limit seed bank replenishment by R plants. The potential benefits of taller rice varieties with enhanced root competitiveness, and that may be harvested earlier, should be considered.

Abstract:
The present study aimed to assess the response of 15 rice cultivars exposed to elevated ozone stress. The plants were exposed to 100 ppb ozone (10:00– 17:00 h) for 30 days at the reproductive stage. Elevated ozone significantly alters the physiological, biochemical, growth and yield traits of all test rice cultivars. Elevated ozone exposure significantly decreased photosynthetic rate maximally in MDU5 (42.90%) and TRY(R)2 showed maximum reduction in stomatal conductance (42.39%) and chlorophyll content (41.22%). In terms of yield traits, a decrease in tiller number, number of effective tillers, number of filled spikelets per panicle and 1000 grain weight over the control were also observed. The multivariate analysis with a total variance of 58.86% categorized the 15 rice cultivars into ozone sensitive (TRY(R) 2, ASD16, ADT(R)45 and MDU5), moderately ozone sensitive (ASD18, ADT43, Rice MDU6, ADT36 and ADT37), moderately ozone tolerant (ADT(R)48 CO47 and Rice CO51) and ozone tolerant (Rice TPS5, Anna(R)4 and PMK(R)3) under 100 ppb ozone. The present results revealed that the ozone tolerant rice cultivars would be recommended to cultivate in the regions experiencing high ozone concentration.

Abstract:
Efficacy of an indigenous fungus,Exserohilum monoceras, for the control of 3Echinochloaspecies was evaluated and compared under both regulated greenhouse and screenhouse (field plots netted with 2 layers of metal mesh screening to exclude vertebrate pests) conditions. Under greenhouse conditions, an inoculum dose of 2.5 × 107conidia m−2killed all seedlings of both barnyardgrass andE. glabrescens, whereas an inoculum dose of 5.0 × 107conidia m−2was required to obtain 100% mortality of junglerice seedlings. The 1.5-leaf stage of all 3Echinochloaspecies was the most susceptible. Increasing inoculum density increased weed control efficacy on younger or olderEchinochloaseedlings. The highest level of control was observed forE. glabrescens, less for barnyardgrass, and least for junglerice. Under screenhouse conditions,Exserohilum monocerascaused more than 90% mortality ofEchinochloaspecies when the inoculum was formulated as an oil emulsion or when applied as a dry powder.
