The 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy proved to be an interesting observatory to evaluate the contrasting ways through which the various components of society looked at the foundation moment of the State. The anniversary was quite different from those of 1911 and 1961 in that the current plight of the country was deeply reflected in meanings and implications.
