In central Argentina, the annual rainfall regime shows increasing since the 2nd half of the 20th century. The aim of this work was to evaluate the long-term changes in the intensity of rainfall in the central-north region of Entre Ríos between 1945 and 2019, based only on daily precipitation records aggregated at yearly, monthly and seasonal levels. We used monthly rainfall data for the period 1945–2019 from 6 localities in Province of Entre Rios, Argentina. The change detection analysis has been conceded using Pettitt’s test, von Neumann ratio test, Buishand’s range test and standard normal homogeneity (SNH) test, while non-parametric tests including linear regression, Mann-Kendall and Spearman rho tests have been applied for trend analysis. Like the regional results, this study observed a sustained increase in monthly rainfall to the breaking point in the 1970s, but then the annual rate of increase was even higher. The average annual rainfall in the region prior to that date was 946 mm, while after the same 1150 mm, equivalent to 21.5% higher than the 1945–1977 average and 8.5% higher according to the historical average 1945–2019.

In the Serbian fishing industry, carp breeding in pond is the most important activity. Analysis has shown that breeding may be organized in a two-level semi-intensive system, or in a fully intensive breeding system. Carp farms in Serbia cover any area of around 10,000 ha, with an annual restocking of young fish at around 8,600 ha. Species usually bred include carp, bighead carp, silver carp, grass carp, catfish, pike, and perch. By the level of production of edible fish in carp ponds, with an average production level of 5,000-7,000 tons of fish annually, Serbia takes an important place in Europe. In the chapter, the authors calculate several performance indicators of production for all carp farms, and the results show that by the production intensity Serbia is highly positioned in Europe.

The solar radiation and energy potential in Serbia is 30% higher than in Central Europe, and the intensity of solar radiation is among the highest in Europe. Specifically suitable are the condition for usage of solar energy in southeast Serbia where the annual average of global radiation on a horizontal surface amounts to more than 4.2 kWh/m2 a day. This chapter discusses four photovoltaic solar power plants, two having been installed in the territory of the city of Leskovac and two in the Bosilegrad territory. The research is based on geographical location of solar power plants, orientation, and inclination of the panels in respect to the horizontal surface. All the processed solar power plants have the capacity 30-40 kW. The chapter is projection of two years of researching and measuring data on the initial investments in order reach profitability and investment return period. The solar power plants that have fitted angle of 33° (Fortuna) give higher production of electric power than in those panels that have angle inclination of 10° (Domit).

Latin America encompasses a vast territory between 12°30'N and 55°30'S latitude and between 29°W and 82°W longitude. This subcontinent has 13 countries with complex climatic conditions. Extremely humid weather is typical closer to the equator, while semiarid, arid, and desertic conditions prevail in the Bolivian and Chilean high plains. The wide variation in climatic conditions leads to distinct agricultural conditions across Latin America. For example, forests, equatorial fruits, and perennial vegetation exist throughout the Amazonian region. Farther from the equator, toward the Andes and at higher latitudes, there is a noticeable change in agricultural systems. There is a greater emphasis on growing cereal/grain crops in Argentina and Brazil. The countries that compose the Amazon River basin experience a higher amount of annual precipitation, and drought is not a characteristic phenomenon there, except during high-intensity El Niño years (Marengo et al., 2001). In contrast, drought is a regular event commonly observed in parts of Peru, Chile, Paraguay, Argentina (Scian and Donnari, 1996), Uruguay, and Brazil. The Atacama Desert in Chile is one of the most arid regions on the earth, where the average annual precipitation is as low as 0.8 mm in Arika or even 0.5 mm in other regions of this desert. Figure 12.2 provides a more detailed description on climatic conditions of Brazil. Although the average annual precipitation in the northeastern region is less than 300 mm, it exceeds 2500 mm in some other regions of Brazil (Grimm, 2003). Agricultural operations take place during the rainy season (March–October). The northeast region is drought prone, but the central, west, and southeast regions are traditionally grain-producing regions. In the northeast and central-west regions, water deficiency is higher, which seriously affects food production. Table 12.1 shows production losses in Brazil due to climate anomalies including droughts that occurred during 1978–1986 (Mota, 1979) and 1991–1994 (Rossetti, 2001). About 33% (about 50% in the northeast region) of these losses were attributed to droughts. Maize production also significantly declined due to drought that occurred during 1990–91, 1993–94, 1996–97, and 1997–98.

This chapter presents cooperative relaying networks that are helpful in Internet of Thing (IoT) applications for fifth-generation (5G) radio networks. It provides reliable connectivity as the wireless device is out of range from cellular network, high throughput gains and enhance the lifetime of wireless networks. These features can be achieved by designing the advanced protocols. The design of advanced protocols plays an important role to combat the effect of channel fading, data packet scheduling at the buffered relay, average delay, and traffic intensity. To achieve our goals, we consider two-way cooperative buffered relay networks and then investigate advanced protocols such as without channel state information (CSI) i.e., buffer state information (BSI) only and with partial transmit CSI i.e., BSI/CSI with the assistance of one dimensional Markov chain and transmission policies in fading environment. The outage probability of consecutive links and outage probability of multi-access and broadcast channels are provided in closed-form. Further, the buffered relay achieves maximum throughput gains in closed-form for all these protocols. The objective function of throughput of the buffered relay is evaluated in fractional programming that is transformed into linear program using standard CVX tool. Numerical results show that our proposed protocols performance better as compared to conventional method studied in the literature. Finally, this chapter provides possible future research directions.

Abstract:
Bangladesh is globally known as a flood-vulnerable country—an almost flat land with too much water. In terms of annual per capita availability of water resources, it ranks among the highest in the world. But a lesserknown disaster that affects a significant proportion of its fertile land is drought. The occurrence of droughts may largely be attributed to two recent phenomena: (1) an extensive adoption of high yielding varieties (HYV) of paddy (i.e., rice) in the drier months; and (2) constraints faced in water availability during premonsoon months due to upstream water withdrawal from river systems. Up to 15% of the total cultivable land (about 0.9 million ha) now experiences droughts of moderate to very severe intensity, once in every two years (Iqbal and Ali, 2001). This chapter examines the causes of droughts in the context of the country’s complex water regime, the implications of droughts, and the ways to monitor them. About 80% of annual monsoon rainfall over the country occurs during the period from June to the first week of October. The western zones of the country receive less rainfall, averaging about 1400 mm, compared to the national average of 2150 mm, and therefore the susceptibility to droughts in the western zones of the country is higher. Table 24.1 provides a chronological overview of areas and populations in Bangladesh affected by droughts during the 1950–79 period. The economy of Bangladesh significantly depends on agriculture. More than 63% of 130 million people, confined within a territory of 147,750 km2, find employment in agriculture (MOF, 2003). Although the share of the crop production in the gross domestic product (GDP) has been declining steadily in recent times, dropping from 24.66% in 1990–91 to 18.58% in 2002–03, it still is the predominant economic activity of the majority of the people (Ahmad and Ahmed, 2002). More than 80% of the households in rural Bangladesh are directly dependent on the production of various crops. Paddy (rice) is the main crop, occupying about 80% of the cultivated land. Multiple varieties of paddy are grown in the country.
