Abstract:
Ambiguity and BRST anomaly which appear in the string higher-loop calculation are studied in 4-dimensional heterotic string theory. In particular, we intensively investigate the models with an anomalous U(1) gauge group, and show that the possible ambiguities (A-B mixing, U(1) D-term tadpole etc.) are made to vanish by suitable field redefinition within a class of gauge slices satisfying the factorization hypothesis. Subtlety of massless three point amplitudes is clarified. We also extend the factorization hypothesis to the case of fermion amplitudes and study the ambiguities in them. We illus

We show that for a large class of [Formula: see text] conformal field theories the 1/N correction to the chiral anomaly of the U(1) R-current can be shown to arise from the D7-branes present in the dual orientifolded orbifold string theories, generalizing a result in the literature for the simplest case. We also study the U(1)Ranomaly for [Formula: see text] conformal field theories that arise from orientifolds of the conifold. We find agreement between the field- and string-theoretic calculations, confirming a prediction of the AdS/CFT correspondence at order 1/N for string theories on AdS5×

A description is given on how to construct (0, 2) supersymmetric conformal field theories as coset models. These models may be used as non-trivial backgrounds for heterotic string theory. They are realized as a combination of an anomalously gauged Wess–Zumino–Witten model, right-moving supersymmetric fermions, and left-moving current algebra fermions. Requiring the sum of the gauge anomalies from the bosonic and fermionic sectors to cancel yields the final model. Applications discussed include exact models of extremal four-dimensional charged black holes and Taub–NUT solutions of string theory

This paper addresses the fate of extended space-time symmetries, in particular conformal symmetry and supersymmetry, in two-dimensional Rindler space-time appropriate to a uniformly accelerated non-inertial frame in flat 1+1-dimensional space-time. Generically, in addition to a conformal co-ordinate transformation, the transformation of fields from Minkowski to Rindler space is accompanied by local conformal and Lorentz transformations of the components, which also affect the Bogoliubov transformations between the associated Fock spaces. Strings and membranes actions in 2D and 3D originate as well from 4D Einstein gravity after recurring to the nonlinear connection formalism of Lagrange–Finsler and Hamilton–Cartan spaces. Quantum gravity in 3D can be described by a W∞ matrix model in D = 1 that can be solved exactly via the collective field theory method. The linearized Einstein equation describing graviton propagation through a chiral medium appears to be helicity dependent. We analyze features of the corresponding spectrum in a collision-less regime above a flat background. In the long wave-length limit, circularly polarized metric perturbations travel with a helicity dependent group velocity that can turn negative giving rise to a new type of an anomalous dispersion. We further show that this chiral anomalous dispersion is a general feature of polarized modes propagating through chiral plasmas extending our result to the electromagnetic sect

Then, we review the lagrangians of the Weyl fermion and Dirac fermion, the models that are the focus of our chiral and trace anomaly computations. Since we evaluate the anomalies using Pauli-Villars (PV) regularization, we present different PV masses and discuss the classical symmetries they break.
