Abstract:
The purpose of the work is to develop a project of an information and reference system for finding answers to questions based on the highest degree of comparison using text content from open English- language web resources. Examples of such questions can be: “What is the best book ever?”, “What is the most popular IDE for Python”. The result of the functioning of the information and reference system is a ranked list of answers based on the frequency of appearance of each of the answer options. Also, a numerical characteristic of the probability of the preference of a particular answer over others is added to each element of the list. Based on this metric, the obtained results are ranked. This information and reference system works with questions to which there is no unequivocal answer, what differs it from classic information systems for finding answers to questions of the QA-system type. The latter have a hypothesis that there is only one true answer to the question, often such systems work with well-known facts. Examples of questions they answer can be, for example, the date of birth of a famous person, or the population of a certain country. Instead, the proposed information and reference system answers subjective questions, for example, “What is the best book in the fantasy genre?” or “What is the best programming language?”. The system is based on the popularity of one or another answer. Proper names based on the analysis of N-grams are also keywords for forming the answer to the question.

Abstract:
This research deals with the review of the exegesis of Surat “Al-Rahman” from the book “The Clear Answers to Hidden Questions in the Exegesis of the Quranic Verses” by the great Scholar: Ali bin Muhammad Alaa Al-Din Al-Masry, deceased in 1127 AH (1715 AD). The review of this book contributes to highlighting the legacy of this Scholar, who was characterized by creativity in classification, good presentation and writing, especially as this Scholar did not have a detailed biography discussion. Therefore, the review of his books gives a picture of his knowledge, through which it was found that he was expert in many sciences, especially exegesis. This review also sheds light on a type of literature of the eleventh century. The book manifest feeds the exegesis library with one of the precious books that is based on the question-and-answer approach in exegesis, which is a distinctive approach that enriches exegesis and develops reflection. The author was keen on inferring from the Quran, the Sunnah, and the sayings of the predecessors, and the Scholars, combining the methods of exegesis, so he interprets the verse with its counterparts, sometimes with hadith, and sometimes with the words of the commentators, and sometimes in Arabic language. His answers were equable and accurate and did not depart from the sayings of the scholars. Because he did not answer verbally, but rather he answered them after reading some of the works of exegesis, such as Al-Baghawi, and Al-Jalalain exegeses, and others. The author follows the transmission and did not attribute to himself one saying, rather, all of his answers were quoted from the Imams - may Allah the Almighty have mercy on them - with his attention to the seven readings, and their good guidance. Therefore, it is necessary to benefit from the author’s method in presenting the exegesis answer; as he explains the strange word, clarifies the rhetorical style, and the like, which raises the question, and arouses interest and draws contemplation.

This study examines the relationship between company management guidance, and ex-ante crash risk over the duration of 2008(Jan 2006-Dec 2009) financial crisis using the implied volatility skew, which is based upon ex-ante volatility implied by the pricing model developed by Black-Scholes (1973). The study finds that over the duration of this crisis period, management guidance decreases with a rise in ex-ante crash risk. Further, the study provides evidence on the relationship of management guidance and earnings volatility, and how that is affected by a firm's industry product concentration based on the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) score.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to investigate what classroom teachers working in grades F–3 consider affecting pupils’ reading motivation and how they perceive that fictional book choices and working methods affect pupils’ reading motivation and reading development. The background section begins with a description of how intrinsic and extrinsic motivation as well as how choosing fiction and teaching methods affects the pupils’ reading motivation and reading development. The study has its theoretical starting point in the sociocultural perspective and in the Self-determination theory. The data of the study has been gathered through qualitative semi-structured interviews with six different primary school teachers. The interviews were recorded as audio files to be transcribed and then be summarised with the different steps by the analysis method. The result shows that, in accordance with the previous research, the asked classroom teachers believe that reading motivation can increase pupils’ reading development. Since motivation is not constant, it is important that the primary school teachers always has the students interests and experiences in mind while working with fiction in order to maintain reading motivation. The result also shows that the classroom teachers as well as previous research think that time is crucial for the pupils to develop their reading motivation to the extent that they eventually can become part of our knowledge society.

Yerikalapudi, Aparna Varsha. "Answer Extraction In Automated Reasoning." Scholarly Repository, 2008. http://scholarlyrepository.miami.edu/oa_theses/167.

Full text
Abstract:
One aspect of Automated Reasoning (AR) deals with writing computer programs that can answer questions using logical reasoning. An Automated Theorem Proving system (ATP system) translates a question to be answered to a first-order logic conjecture, and attempts to prove the conjecture from a set of axioms provided, thereby leading to a proof. If a proof is found an answer extraction method can be applied to answer the original question. If more than one proof is possible, more than one answer may need to be extracted. For ATP systems that can find only one answer at a time, to answer questions that yield multiple answers, the ATP system can be re-invoked with a modified question to find other possible answers. In this thesis, an answer extraction method has been designed to extract more than one answer when an ATP system is used to answer a question that has multiple answers. The method is implemented in an interactive computer program and the process is called multiple-answer extraction. The answer extraction software, called the multi-answer system, is a three layered software architecture model. SNARK, at the bottom-most layer, serves as the ATP system that finds single answers. The answer extractor, in the middle layer, extracts possible answers by re-invoking the ATP system. The top layer compares the answers extracted to the user's expected answers. The software is command line driven. Keywords such as all, some, n (where n is a number), while and until are specified on the command line to limit the number of answers to be extracted. The top layer allows the user to check properties of the answer, e.g., if a specific element belongs to the set of answers obtained, or if the user's set of answers is a subset of the answers returned by the multi-answer system. This is done using set operations, such as subset, element of, union, difference, intersection, on the user's set of answers and the extracted set of answers.

Abstract:
Each day, millions of people ask questions and search for answers on the World Wide Web. Due to this, the Internet has grown to a world wide database of questions and answers, accessible to almost everyone. Since this database is so huge, it is hard to find out whether a question has been answered or even asked before. As a consequence, users are asking the same questions again and again, producing a vicious circle of new content which hides the important information. One platform for questions and answers are Web forums, also known as discussion boards. They present discussions as item streams where each item contains the contribution of one author. These contributions contain questions and answers in human readable form. People use search engines to search for information on such platforms. However, current search engines are neither optimized to highlight individual questions and answers nor to show which questions are asked often and which ones are already answered. In order to close this gap, this thesis introduces the \\emph{Effingo} system. The Effingo system is intended to extract forums from around the Web and find question and answer items. It also needs to link equal questions and aggregate associated answers. That way it is possible to find out whether a question has been asked before and whether it has already been answered. Based on these information it is possible to derive the most urgent questions from the system, to determine which ones are new and which ones are discussed and answered frequently. As a result, users are prevented from creating useless discussions, thus reducing the server load and information overload for further searches. The first research area explored by this thesis is forum data extraction. The results from this area are intended be used to create a database of forum posts as large as possible. Furthermore, it uses question-answer detection in order to find out which forum items are questions and which ones are answers and, finally, topic detection to aggregate questions on the same topic as well as discover duplicate answers. These areas are either extended by Effingo, using forum specific features such as the user graph, forum item relations and forum link structure, or adapted as a means to cope with the specific problems created by user generated content. Such problems arise from poorly written and very short texts as well as from hidden or distributed information.

Abstract:
Thesis (M. Eng.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2003.<br>MIT Institute Archives copy: p. 29-56 bound in reverse order.<br>Includes bibliographical references (p. 54-56).<br>Prism is an answer projection system that combines the best attributes of traditional and Web-based question answering systems. Traditional question answering systems retrieve answers with pinpoint accuracy but limited coverage, using a small and reliable data source, while Web-based systems retrieve answers with broad coverage but limited accuracy, using a large but noisy data source. By taking advantage of the strengths of each system, an answer projection system can answer as many questions as a Web-based system while still being as accurate as a traditional system. In fact, Prism improves the performance of a traditional question answering system by 25%. It improves the accuracy of answers retrieved from the World Wide Web by 10%, and more importantly, it verifies answers retrieved from the Web by providing reliable supporting documents. By combining Prism with traditional and Web-based systems, we obtain a question answering system with high accuracy and broad coverage.<br>by Lynn Wu.<br>M.Eng.

Abstract:
This experimental research study examined the effects of the Question-Answer Relationships (QAR) taxonomy on ninth-grade students' ability to answer comprehension questions. Participants included 32 incoming ninth-grade students who were required to attend summer school due to poor attendance, grades, and/or standardized test scores. Participants were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Experimental group participants received one week of initial strategy instruction followed by three weeks of maintenance activities. Results indicated that the strategy had a negative effect on students' question-answering ability and raised questions regarding comprehension instruction, length of interventions, and the role of scaffolded support for a target population of adolescent readers. Discussion of the results revolves around interventions, QAR instruction, reading ability, and motivation of the participants.<br>Ed.D.<br>Doctorate<br>Education and Human Performance<br>Education

Abstract:
While questioners’ sometimes face no response at all from their interlocutors, this is rare. Yet, the range of responses varies widely in the degree of cooperation that recipients give questioners. This chapter explores differences between responses that answer questions and those that fail to answer. It begins by identifying the primary types of non-answer responses before showing evidence that non-answer responses are dispreferred relative to answers. In the response possibility space, non-answer responses are fundamentally disaligning because they inhibit progress in the questioner’s project through her question. Whether a specific response is understood as a more egregious form of disalignment depends on the context in which the question is asked, of whom it is asked, and the reasonable ability to expect the recipient to answer. Questioners hear, and question recipients produce, non-answer responses in a context where answering is an alternative response whether affiliative or disaffiliative, equivocal or wholehearted.

Abstract:
In asking a polar question, questioners set the topic, agenda, and terms of the response. While these can be resisted, whatever follows will be understood vis-à-vis the question because there is a shared social norm that when asked a question a recipient should respond. This chapter reveals that although often relatively little conscious thought is put into how speakers design questions, they are nonetheless finely calibrated for question recipients. This calibration is the work questioners do to ensure that questions receive an optimal answer response. At the broadest level, the two dimensions that questioners rely on are action and design. Questioners are accountable for offering or requesting (for instance) what they can reasonably expect their recipient to accept and for designing questions in ways that are well suited to their recipients in terms of polarity, prefaces that position the questions relative to ongoing interaction, and lexical choices.

Abstract:
Interactive digital book was produced on the topics importance of statistics and presentation of information, for the statistical subjects taught at the Faculty of Higher Studies Cuautitlán, the book was made with an interactive approach, that is, in most chapters there are HTML5 objects that students can access by connecting to the Internet from any mobile device or PC. The themes of this interactive book were statistics, variables and measurement levels, pie graph, bar graph, histogram, dot graph, stem and leaf graph, line graph and form. The interactive digital book contemplates that each chapter indicates prerequisites, learning objectives, written development of the topic in the form of questions and answers, videos with explanation, interactive exercises, widget (html 5, interactive galleries, interactive images, etc.) review questions, internet activities and resources. The interactive digital book will offer students a full-screen experience with galleries, videos, interactive diagrams, mathematical expressions and more, these books bring content to life in ways that a printed page cannot. Students will no longer be limited to static images illustrating traditional texts, but can now immerse themselves in an image with interactive captions, bringing an answer to life in a chapter review. They can flip through a book by simply sliding a finger on the screen. They can also highlight text, take notes, search for content, and find definitions in a glossary very easily. Plus, they can take them wherever they go, allowing students to learn not only within the classroom walls, but also in the virtual space that these books make up.

In a data set, the following characteristics are usually of paramount importance: 1. the center, 2. the variation, 3. the distribution, 4. the atypical values and 5. The characteristics of the data that change over time. It is important to understand the standard deviation values using tools such as the general rule of rank. Because technology allows us to get many of these statistics automatically, it is not so important to memorize formulas or perform complex arithmetic calculations by hand on the other hand, so that the students can concentrate on understanding and interpreting the values that are obtained from them. The interactive digital book of measures of central tendency contemplates that each chapter indicates prerequisites, learning objectives, written development of the subject, videos with explanation, interactive exercises, widget (html 5. Interactive galleries, interactive images, etc.) review questions. The interactive digital book will provide students with full-screen experience with galleries, videos, interactive diagrams, 3D objects, and math expressions and more; these books give life to the content in ways that a printed page can not do. Students will no longer be limited to static images that illustrate traditional texts, but can now immerse themselves in an image with interactive subtitles, rotate a 3D object or make an answer come to life in a chapter review. You can flip through a book with a single finger on the screen. They can also highlight text, take notes, look up content and find definitions in a glossary very easily. In addition, they can take them wherever they go, which will allow students not only to learn between the walls of the classroom, but also in the virtual space that make up these books.

Abstract:
The majority of social science majors dislike statistics and research methods. Things can, and should be, different; (social) statistics and research methods can be interesting and fun. To do just that, I currently work on an applied methodology book project. Here I present a modified version of a draft chapter for the book, in which I answer the question why, in Ukraine, there was a strong negative correlation between the regional shares of the vote for Leonid Kuchma in two consecutive presidential elections. The modelling of political competition as two-dimensional (one socioeconomic, one ethno-linguistic) reveals the dominance of the latter dimension in Ukrainian politics. In addition to statistical and methodological lessons, the paper offers substantive lessons, relevant for the important role (positive or negative) that institutional design, policy-making and elite behavior can play in an ethnically divided emerging democracy.

Abstract:
There have been many changes over the last thirty to forty years in the way that statistics is taught and assessed. From hand calculations and assessment tasks that tested whether students had learnt how to answer questions of a type they had seen before correctly, we have moved to assessments that use computers and resources available on the internet and to examinations where sheets with formulae are provided or that are open-book. These newer forms of assessment present their own challenges. Examples of tasks are given in this paper, with discussion of their implementation and appropriate references to publications in statistical education.

Abstract:
The concept of sustainability has been becoming more and more important all over the world. It is an urgent need to make all processes "sustainable" in order to protect the environment and human life. Numerous technical innovations are emerging to ensure sustainability. These rapid developments, especially in architecture, make it increasingly difficult to distinguish the concepts of sustainability and technological innovations from each other. Sustainability has started to take place in our lives as a completely technology-oriented concept. This article is to seek an answer to the question of whether the concept of sustainability in architecture can be achieved with low technology. It also discusses which approach should adopt to ensure sustainability.

Abstract:
The history of architectural and urban design has expanded its scope and started adopting new philosophical approaches from other disciplines to explore the built environment. Theorist discusses whether we still live in a humanist world where a human being has more priority over the unhuman things or not to answer that; should we design architecture and urban within an anthropocentric approach. As a recent pandemic show, things that are not human, like animals or viruses, could control and navigate a new style of living. This research will introduce Bruno Latour's ANT and Graham Harman's Object-Oriented Ontology (OOO) as a new constructive method to analyse how human and unhuman bodies are equally the affective actors of daily practices in the urban realm. 19th-century Great Stink and epidemic in Victorian London will be a case study to picture urban dwellers of London that shaped determined the destiny of health and hygiene of London in 1858.

Abstract:
In future autonomous cars, users, free from the primary task of driving, will have time and space to engage in other activities while traveling, such as reading a book, working on a laptop or watching a movie. Although the option for these activities are one of the great advantages of autonomous cars, this will also likely increase motion sickness (MS) inside the car. MS affects numerous individuals, and it occurs when the information received through the eyes differs from what is perceived by the body and the inner ear. Plus, MS can have an impact on the emotional component of the individuals experiencing it, making the experience of traveling in autonomous cars uncomfortable and difficult. Emotional design studies focus on the emotional response of individuals to a product or service. These studies typically employ self-report scales as assessment tools, such as SAM (Self-Assessment Manikin) and PrEmo (Product Emotion Measurement instrument). We present the first study measuring emotional responses to MS using both SAM and PrEmo scales. In our study, we induced MS by asking participants to watch a highly dynamic video of a first-person car trip. We also asked subjects to answer to SAM and PrEmo before and after the visualization of the video. Our results showed a change in the answers in time, that is, before vs. after the experience of MS. MS significantly altered individuals' emotional responses, worsening their condition. These results support the need for studies that reduce MS to improve the experience and well-being of individuals in autonomous cars.
