Abstract:
This chapter explores solutions to the trust deficit inhibiting social enterprises’ access to the retail investment market. Although the size of this market makes it an attractive source of capital, the chapter explains how securities regulation traditionally hindered small businesses from reaching it. It surveys the impact of reforms under the 2012 JOBS Act, identifying new pathways for retail investment in small businesses. Even with these changes, however, the chapter argues social enterprise’s access to retail investment will be stymied unless founders and investors can trust each other. I

This article appears in theOxford Handbook of New Audiovisual Aestheticsedited by John Richardson, Claudia Gorbman, and Carol Vernallis. Musicals have always enjoyed a rich cross-media history, and changing technologies help maintain that tradition. Today television and digital cultures offer compelling new generic formats. No longer large stage and screen productions, musicals now appear through smaller, decentralized forms and platforms, providing the premise of television series, reality shows, and music videos, or appearing as small performances on YouTube. This chapter follows the afterli

Advancements in OMICs are now enabling investigators to explore comprehensively the biological consequences of exogenous and endogenous exposures by detecting molecular signatures of exposure, early signs of adverse biological effects, preclinical disease, and molecularly defined cancer subtypes. These new technologies have proven invaluable for assembling a comprehensive portrait of human exposure, health, and disease. This includes hypothesis-driven biomarkers, as well as platforms that can agnostically analyze entire biologic processes and “compartments,” including the measurement of small

Booderee National Park at Jervis Bay, 200km south of Sydney, attracts over 450,000 visitors each year. The park has many special features, including dramatic wave cut platforms and sea caves, some of the whitest beach sands in Australia, and very high densities of native predators such as the Powerful Owl and the Diamond Python. This book outlines the biology and ecology of Booderee National Park.
Booderee packs an extraordinary level of biodiversity into a small area (roughly 6500 hectares), with more than 260 species of terrestrial vertebrates and over 625 species of plants. It is home

Abstract:
Prior to 1994, the media operated in an environment that can best be described as ‘suppressed’. Diversity of thoughts, views and opinions on media platforms were non-existent as the regime, at the time, ruled with an iron-fist. A variety of print media outlets sought to reflect reality, but it was a steady struggle especially for those with meagre resources, and exacerbated by the constant clampdowns. The state-run broadcaster, if anything, entrenched discriminatory principles and practices. Given our precarious past, the birth of democracy proved to be the perfect panacea for a promising path
