Full textThis thesis, titled "Multibeam Beamforming Antennas for Navigation" focuses on developing advanced antennas capable of beamforming in the L-band for Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals, aiming to enhance reliability and performance in diverse scenario. To achieve this, two innovative approaches have been implemented: a phased array antenna system and a modified 3D printed Luneburg lens. The phased array antenna system include the design of both the antenna array itself, from the sourceelement to the array structure and also the beamformer. The beamformer is composed of multiple stages inter connected by SMA connectors making the complete system extremely flexible and easy to modify. The beamformer is capable of generating multiple beams in the L-band, and can be used to track multiple satellites simultaneously. It's configuration includes a filtering and an amplification stages specifically for GNSS signals. The second technology developped is a modified 3D printed Luneburg lens. The final design of the lens allow the beamforming of up to 16 simultaneously active beams without any mechanical components and providing almost a full-sky view. Multiple versions of the lens and it's source array were developped including dual circular polarization and dual-band configurations. To be able to operate the lens, a custom 16 channel dual-band GNSS receiver was developped. The receiver is capable of tracking all the GNSS signals from all the existing constellations and can be used to track multiple satellites simultaneously. Finally, using the experience gained from the L-band, a Ku-band lens was developped. The lens is capable of generating multiple beams in the Ku-band and can be used to receive signals from recentlow earth orbits (LEO) constellations. The objective behind this lens for the European Space Agencyis to deevelop an alternative navigation system to the GNSS, relying on the signals from the LEO constellations

Full textConfocal propagation and Brillouin scattering of phase conjugated acoustical beams using the method of parametrical magneto-acoustics wave phase conjugation (WPC) is experimentally and theoretically studied. In numerical model the matching layer of 1 mm thickness with smooth variation of impedance is proposed to increase acoustic emission. The output of conjugator increasing (8. 1dB) was numerically obtained by such acoustic matching. The existence of accumulative effects in the case of the nonlinear interaction such as Brillouin scattering of the phase conjugated acoustical beams moving in the same direction was shown. The amplitude of the wave of differential frequency (WDF) in the resonant interaction of plane waves exceed the amplitude of WDF in non-resonant interaction more than three orders. Experimental results show that due to local interaction in a confocal system, the amplitude of WDF can be increase by two orders. The phase super sensitivity of WDF according to the position of the object disposed in the focal plan of a confocal system of Brillouin scattering of phase conjugated acoustical waves were shown. Presented results show the possibility to realize a parametric antenna based on the principle of the phase conjugation Stokes component of Brillouin scattering of the ultrasound waves. Developing methods can be used for the creation of ultrasound diffractive tomography devices based on WPC and meant for the detection of local non homogeneities of medium

Full textThe work presented in this paper are placed in the context of wireless networks without infrastructure (Ad Hoc) involving the use of sector antennas in a 60 GHz radio channel. The antenna consists of several simple antennas; each intended for a particular sector and may be mechanically switched to activate a single sector. It is thus possible to choose the area of transmitting or receiving data. This type of antenna nevertheless suffers from a problem with this mechanical switching: it cannot be done instantly. At each change of sector, a small amount of time is lost, which reduces the efficiency. This problem is particularly important when the switching time is around the time needed to send a packet: more than half of the bandwidth can be wasted. The state of the art solutions for supporting sector antennas generally do not take into account this switching time and therefore are not adapted to this problem. The thesis is that by taking into account the switching time, it is possible to produce an efficient and adapted protocol stack to this type of antennas. We therefore propose a new optimized protocol stack including the two lower layers of the OSI model. It then remains interoperable with other systems

Full textThe evolution of radar systems as well as telecommunication satellites induces the need of simultaneous multibeams for the receive mode. In this thesis we propose two new optical beamforming architectures for the receive mode in network antennas. The former is based on the fiber chromatic dispersion, whereas the latter is an optical coherent architecture based on an optical dual-frequency source. These architectures were firstly analyzed theoretically and secondly their performances were measured. Both are based on two technological blocks that have been studied too: the optical summation and dual frequency optical source locked on a local oscillator. The dynamic behavior of the optical summation was modeled and various technological solutions based respectively on a coupler, a multiplexer or a fiber summation was presented. The WDM channel influence and the interference between optical carriers were analyzed theoretically and experimentally. The optical summation models were applied to summation through a WDM and the theory is in agreement with the measure. As in the case of microwave summation, the optical summation allows a gain on the dynamic range. Then we present the theory allowing to conceive a dual frequency laser locked on an electric signal. The results are very promising, indeed thanks to the use of two lock loops, a stability of about an hour was observed

Full textFor more than 45 years, focused ion beams FIB columns based on liquid metal ion sources (Ga) have been used for the development, modification or analysis of nanostructures. Much more recently, less than 10 years ago, plasma sources are integrated in FIBs to meet the needs of failure analysis as well as sample preparation. This plasma FIB market has grown strongly in recent years and is accompanied by a permanent improvement of the specifications of this young technology. Therefore, it is necessary to characterize these sources in order to improve the associated optics. In this thesis, we present the development of a new FIB column working with a plasma ion source, dedicated to the creation of NV centers, as well as the development of a system dedicated to the characterization of the performances of this source.Given the context of this work, the first part of the manuscript is dedicated to the presentation of FIB technology, its operation and its applications. In the second chapter, we present the development of a FIB column dedicated to the implantation of nitrogen ions for the controlled creation of NV color centers in diamonds. We begin by introducing the unique properties of NV centers as well as the usual methods for their creation. Then we present the different steps of the characterization of this FIB column. The implantations carried out during this work have been used for the development of a new application of doped diamonds. In the last chapter of the thesis, we are interested in designing a test bench to obtain the key parameters of the ion source, namely energy dispersion and emittance. The usual methods for measuring these parameters are presented and the operation of the test bench is fully described. Then we then present the measurements made with beams of xenon ions and oxygen ions. Some parameters of the plasma ion source have thus been obtained

Full textA feeding sources arrangement installed in an EBG resonator leads to profit at the same time from the array advantages (such as beamforming, nulling patterns, beam steering) and the resonator filtering attributes (spatial filtering, directivity increasing, steering). This report presents a set of steps that is adjusted to the EBG antennas development and design in particular multi sources EBG antennas. First, a spatial function computation is presented. This function results in the EBG resonator filtering attributes. Weighting the EBG resonator by a source radiation pattern allows the defined function to quickly evaluate the EBG performances. The second part focuses on the multi sources feeding problems. The goal of this part is to design and realize two prototypes. Then, the measures come to validate the antenna design. Aside from the resonating attributes of this kind of structure, the design steps are more tricky. Indeed, the EBG antenna intensifies the coupling phenomena between the radiating elements in the multi sources antennas. For this reason, a novel method overcoming the coupling complication was developed
