Abstract:
The article examines the anthroponymic models by which the referent is named in newspaper texts of different decades. The purpose of the work is to identify trends in the use of anthroponyms in media texts based on a comparison of data on their use in the regional newspaper Kurskaya Pravda in various time periods (1990, 2000, 2010, 2020). The work uses such research methods as the continuous sampling method, observation of language material, systematization, analysis, generalization. The features of the use of one-component, two-component and three-component anthroponyms in full and abbreviated form in media texts are analyzed. It is noted that the second and third types are the most frequent, the ratio of which changes over time. Two main trends in the use of anthroponyms in newspaper texts have been identified: a significant reduction in the use of a three-component anthroponym, including initials and surname and actively used in the Soviet press, and a clear transition to the use of a two-component anthroponym, consisting of a full name and surname, which is one of the manifestations of the democratization of language, a means of creating a more modern image of the referent. It is shown that two-component naming (first name and last name), atypical for Soviet media culture, from the business and political sphere eventually passed into the media and was reflected in the language of the Kursk press; gradually this method of nomination became the main one; using this model of anthroponym, the authors of publications participate in the formation of the concept of modern naming, broadcasting emerging trends and spreading them in society. The study of the peculiarities of the use of anthroponyms in the media language contributes to the development of modern anthroponymy, it is important in terms of accumulating data on the current state of the media language.

Abstract:
Introduction. Anthroponyms contain valuable insights into the history of ethnic language and culture. The historical aspect of anthroponymy needs further research to reconstruct a wider panorama of the ethnos-specific anthroponymic system. Goals. The article seeks to consider the anthroponymic elements of Khan Ayuka’s letters in comparison with parallel Russian translated equivalents of theirs. Comparison of the Kalmyk and Russian texts makes it possible to trace traditions of naming people in different ethnocultural societies, thus revealing materials for a Kalmyk 18th-century name list. Methods and Materials. The paper analyzes 1714 letters of the Kalmyk Khan Ayuka and their Russian translations (referred to 1714 as well) housed by the National Archive of the Republic of Kalmykia. The personal names considered identified through the use of the continuous sampling method. The main research methods employed are the descriptive and comparative ones, and that of contextual analysis. The analyzed texts contain not only Kalmyk anthroponyms but also ones borrowed from other languages, which resulted from socio-political contacts with different peoples and states. Along with Russian, there are Kazakh, Tatar, Khiva, Turkmen, and other anthroponyms. Still, the article focuses on Kalmyk anthroponymic elements. Conclusions. Anthroponymy of each ethnos in each era has its own characteristics. In this regard, the material contained in the official correspondence of Khan Ayuka restores part of the Kalmyk anthroponymic register typical for the 1700–1720s. Restoration of the name list in diachrony requires both original texts and their Russian translations be used, since anthroponyms mentioned in the original documents and translated texts complement each other, which may indicate regularity, reproducibility of such personal names.

Religious anthroponymy in AlgeriaAbstract In this article, we are interested in Onomastics, which was, initially, an auxiliary science of History and Linguistics that become a transdisciplinary science mobilizing other sciences such as Sociology, Marketing, Law, and Literature. We dedicate this work in particular to religious-based anthroponymy. As a result, we wonder about the origin and formation of anthroponyms recorded over two study periods of 1875/1885 and 1962/2010. These are two corpuses identified at the civil registry services of the city of Mostaganem. In this diachronic study, our goal is to make understandable the historical and religious conditions that produced anthroponymic categories formed using religious bases. Keywords: Anthropony; religion; forms; theophore; hegirian.

Abstract:
Scientific interest in informal anthroponyms as an integral component of the anthroponymic system has a long linguistic tradition. Whereas surnames and first names are thoroughly analyzed in onomastic research, nicknames (individual, family), family names, pseudonyms have not been studied enough. Unofficial anthroponyms also reflect the characteristic features of the speech of a certain territory. This enables researchers to trace the interaction of official and folk naming systems. Theoretical analysis of works on anthroponymy made it possible to outline a number of linguistic problems and different approaches to their solution. The article analyzes the state of research on Slavic unofficial anthroponymy, since the research analysis of unofficial anthroponyms contributes to the development of methods of presenting one's own facts, establishing the main topical aspects of studies on nicknames, family names. The works of M. Khudash, P. Chuchka, and R. Ostash are extremely valuable for Ukrainian anthroponymy; they have become the theoretical basis for many studies on anthroponymy. The study revealed that representatives of different schools and areas approach classification of nicknames in different ways. Among all analyzed approaches proposed by scientists, P. Chuchka's classification is the most fully developed. Family names also play an important role in the folk naming system.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The existence of texts written both in Greek and Phoenician characters, coming from all around the Mediterranean, and particularly during the second half of first millennium B.C., gave birth to the hypothesis of a Greek-Phoenician bilingualism.Working on an exhaustive epigraphic corpus, which goes even beyond the limits of a collection of texts written in the two languages, this research explores the many contexts which lead to contacts and interactions generating several forms of multiculturalism, as witnessed by inscriptions. Going through the microstructure of utterance, phonetics and texts morphology, and taking into account supports material analysis, which completes texts comprehension, this thesis analyzes conditions, modalities and effects of the cohabitation between Greeks and Phoenicians, and between Greek and Phoenician languages and writing systems. The Greek-Phoenician bilingualism appears to be more complex than we could imagine, so much that this label has showed its limits and its inaptitude to pinpoint, characterize and understand phenomena that are manifold and modulated, which a dynamic approach, taking into account specific case-studies, allows us to better seize. From each side of the Mediterranean Sea, Greeks and Phoenicians exchanged in terms of language practices, onomastic and rituals. The study of anthroponyms, as well as of divinities mediation (that we can observe especially in bilingual inscriptions), which matches a god from the pantheon to a god of the other, through the mechanism of interpretatio, have provided a privileged access to the contacts between these two people and to the deep links of their relationships networks

Abstract:
This thesis is a monograph of the Mursi, a population of several thousand living in the Omo valley, in southern Ethiopia. It aims to shed light on the aesthetic practices of the Mursi (anthroponomy, poetry, body ornamentation, dances) and the processes of sociality they create. These practices are seen as being constitutive of distinct, significant registers of relationship. The argument is two-fold. First, aesthetic practices, as pervasive features of the daily life of the Mursi and other East African pastoralists, cannot be reduced to their symbolism and must be seen as providing specific conditions for interaction and communication. Second, and consequently, these aesthetic practices are closely linked to other social domains which have long been considered to be independent of them, notably pastoralism and politics. Indeed, because everyday life makes extensive use of aesthetic practices, the latter must be recognized as playing an essential role in the organization of the Mursi’s pastoral and activities and in the construction of their political institutions

Abstract:
Ancient Cambodia (6th – 14th century A.D.) is relatively rich in inscriptions, composed mainly in Sanskrit, in Old Khmer and in both languages (Sanskrit and Khmer). The impact of Sanskrit on the linguistic enrichment of the Khmer language has not been studied in detail. The present study proposes to examine the Sanskrit and Khmer parts together. It deals with the domains where Sanskrit elements appear densely clustered in the Khmer inscriptions, such as descriptions of donations, formulations of dating, boons and curses, proper names, orthography, royal administration, accounts of the functions of servants in temples and of objects offered to gods and cult objects. It also touches on areas where there appears to have been less palpable influence, such as prosody and morphological derivation. The Sanskrit loanwords in each domain show different features of interaction with Khmer terms: some of them acquire local connotations; some may be “calques” from Sanskrit into Khmer. (Calques of Khmer expressions in Sanskrit are also considered.) If the early inscriptions seem to favour Sanskrit (in some cases, in Prākritised forms), those from the 10th century A.D. onwards are increasingly in a form of Khmer characterized by an abundance of new Sanskrit loanwords. The 10th century is also marked by the appearance of some texts containing “equivalent” passages in their Khmer and Sanskrit portions; later on, in the 12th and the 14th century we find two inscriptions with equivalent passages in Khmer and Pāli. These passages prove that Sanskrit texts play not only the “rhetorical” role for which they are famous, but also the “documentative” role associated with the Khmer texts

Abstract:
This study is about historical demography and anthroponymy dealing with the proper nouns which were used to designate people during the colonial and slavery era, from the 17th century to the 1848 abolition. It focuses on the French Carribean colonial space and more specifically on Martinique, with diversified sources, especially parish registers. Different levels of analysis will be dealt with: the family level, the parish level and to finish, the island level. The first part presents the scope of the study, the sources and the methodology of the survey. The next one deals with the construction of the society of Martinique, the examination of the population and the colony’s socioeconomic structure. The social structure is analysed from the demographic pattern and social relations (the family structure, the mixing of people, the choice of godfathers and godmothers. ) In the light of these elements, the naming system is studied through the way the Christian name and the birth name were chosen to bring out the significant similarities and differences of the corpus of individual names according to the different groups of population (white people, free coloured people and slaves). Then, the habits of each group are studied, from the study of the different types of names (Christian names or birth names, common names and nicknames), focusing on the way they were chosen, on the way they spread and on the way they were used. Bringing out the lines of solidarity of exchange and of tensions, the analysis of the results fits into the study of the social relation system of this colonial society and the way it works

The present dissertation is a philological and historical analysis of the oldest Germanic and Slavic given names. The corpus comprises the Germanic names attested before the end of the 5th century, the names of Germanic women attested before the end of the 7th century, the Slavic names attested before the end of the 9th century and the Russian names attested before the end of the 14th century. I analyse the cultic et cultural notions expressed in the personal names and shared by both traditions such as: sacrality of the hero chosen by gods, veneration of the ancestors and belief in their rebirth, belief in female guardian spirits, the desire and hope of wealth for the progeny. The belief in the protective force of the apotropaic names isanalysed from examples of names expressing negative emotions toward the child, names referring to a wolf and names with an obscene meaning. The close examination of German and Slavic female names reveals and explains the predominance of warlike anthroponomical themes among the former and their absence among the latter

Abstract:
The monograph is devoted to the problem of recreating the linguistic-ethnic unity of the Old Russian anthroponymic and toponymic systems, the discovery of direct connections between the proper name and mental landmarks. The monograph provides a comprehensive description of the onomasticon of ancient Russian monuments of writing in line with comparative historical linguistics, taking into account the encyclopedic, ethnolinguistic and etymological characteristics of proper names. The system and structure of the onomastic space of monuments of ecclesiastical and secular content of the XI-XIII centuries are investigated, conceptual approaches to their description are proposed. The study of the functions of proper names, their morphemics and semantics allowed us to establish the national and cultural specifics of the Old Russian onomastic vocabulary, to determine the prospects for its evolution, as well as the formation of the modern Russian anthroponymic system. Modeling of the Old Russian onomastic space both in the field of anthroponymy and toponymy takes into account the connection of proper names with contextual usage. The participation of nominal signs in the formation of the space of written and artistic texts of the era of the Kievan state is based on the attachment of certain proper names to texts of a religious and secular nature. Nomination in the space of proper names is considered in the monograph not only as a process of activity of a creative nature, but also as a means of onymic word production in the older era. It is addressed to specialists in historical lexicology and onomastics, language history, teachers of literature, local historians.

The study tests the hypothesis according to which the Slavic anthroponyms in -e and -o underwent evolution from vocative endings to hypocoristic derivative suffixes and then to anthroponymic formants. According to the Author, such a hypothesis can be considered entirely plausible, albeit only as a mechanism of formation parallel to and intertwined with other processes of morphemic function change. As a phenomenon observable in both diachrony and synchrony, categorial lability between vocative and word formation can thus be considered inherent in the system of Slavic languages. However the anthroponyms in -e and -o have had different diffusion and distribution in the various Slavic languages and today occupy dissimilar places within the system and varieties of each language.

The author investigates the first name Jan (John), its modifications and usage on the territory of today’s Czech Republic. On the basis of rich anthroponymic sources she has proved that the name Jan has belonged among the most frequently used names in the Czech lands since the 12th century and has kept this status to the present day. Numerous hypocoristic modifications of this name have served the purpose of distinguishing individuals bearing the same official name. Today, they still exist as both surnames (Janáček, Janda) and hypocoristic forms of first names (Jenda, Honzík) used in informal contexts

Abstract:
In this study, the author aims to develop the analysis begun on the occasion of ICONN 4. The present article is focused on anthroponyms whose origin is different from Romanian, in view of illustrating the multiculturalism of Haţeg. Therefore, a sequential depiction of old Romanian anthroponymy is proposed, to complete the descriptions made over the years for other parts of the Romanian lands. The multiethnic anthroponymic picture remains evocative of one of the most dynamic towns of the olden days, situated at a crossroads. The interpretation of anthroponyms in Haţeg is carried out from various perspectives, but the predominant approach pertains to onomastics. This can be accounted for through the content or the particularities of the Haţeg registry book, which contains a significant number of personal names (first and last names). Due to the publication of the documents outside Romania, in Latin, Hungarian or German, the description of certain anthroponyms is difficult to achieve

Abstract:
This paper is a sociolinguistic analysis of anthroponyms from Borşa, Maramureş county, Romania, in the context of migration. The research illustrates the dynamic of anthroponyms, the frequency of foreign names and bilingual nominal structures, as well as the sociocultural factors underlying the choice of names. The corpus of the article consists of first names of newborns, extracted from civil and parish registers of Borşa and verified, in part, through a questionnaire filled in by the parents. The time interval proposed for the analysis spans 18 years (2000– 2018), including the period in which migratory flows multiply and many migrants return. Thus, the onomastic material subjected to research is representative of anthroponymic multiculturalism in Romania.

Abstract:
The current study is dedicated to anthroponymy in the Middle High German epic poem “Song of the Nibelungs”, delving into the problem of rendering anthroponyms with detoponymic bynames. It was carried out with the aim to develop strategies for their depiction in the Latvian language in order to form a scientific basis for the translation of this epic poem. Methods such as quantitative and qualitative corpus analysis and empirical research were used to find out how anthroponyms with detoponymic bynames are realized in the “Song of the Nibelungs”, what is their role in text structure and message and how these properties can be reproduced in the target language. It has been found that detoponyms not only provide information about the origins of epic characters, but also perform formally stylistic functions, and their reproduction requires creative solutions to preserve their unique features. In conclusion, practical examples of the implementation of rendering strategies in translation are presented, which clearly show the close connections between anthroponyms with detoponymic bynames and the structure of the text and justify the choice of specific approaches

Abstract:
Anthroponymy mirrors faithfully the features and core values of people considered as individuals or as ethnic groups sharing common traits. Whether we refer to a religious name chosen for one’s child according to one’s personal beliefs, a foreign, trendy name, or an unusual name which ensures the bearer is easily distinguished, all anthroponyms convey a message. Depending on people’s particular way of perceiving integration in a foreign culture, some may choose to give their children names that are specific to their native culture to perpetuate their tradition; others may wish not to reveal their migrant background by naming their offspring in a way that is characteristic to the host culture. The present approach is both synchronic and diachronic. It follows naming practices in contemporary multicultural communities, at the same time illustrating how names are culturally embedded. The grounds for this perspective are provided by the analysis of a wide corpus of anthroponyms existing in sayings and proverbs pertaining to three different languages and cultures: Romanian, English and Italian.

Abstract:
The act of naming characters in the novel Donna Alba by Gib I. Mihăescu is an obvious way to individualize the respective characters and to unmask their notable features or their more or less noble ancestry. In this regard, this paper is a semantic and etymological analysis of the anthroponymy in the above-mentioned novel. The research aims to illustrate the symbolic meaning and literary function of the characters’ names as a way of conveying the message of the literary work. Thus, the names of Gib Mihăescu’s characters reflect the values and multicultural influences specific to the age depicted in the novel, by virtue of the careful selection of the words fulfilling an onymic role, and as a result of the use or phonetic adaptation of foreign anthroponyms.

Abstract:
Mihail Sadoveanu’s work capitalizes on the expressive dimensions of name-giving and depicts a world whose laws are articulated or disarticulated as regards the onomastic level of writing. The novel Fraţii Jderi most often observes the norms of onomastic conventions. It reflects an archaic world, an interweaving of social classes, nations and customs which highlight the multicultural character of the society and age described. The paper approaches the names of the characters in Fraţii Jderi from a threefold perspective: 1) etymological, in view of reconstructing the semantic traces in the anthroponyms investigated; 2) symbolic, making use of the information provided by lexicographic sources; 3) contextually connotative, decoding the possible “meaning” that the text assigns to the names (discursive meaning). In this analysis, we use the methodological precepts of anthroponymy, linguistics, theory of literary text and literary theory.

Abstract:
It is known that onomastics plays a major part in a literary text. Toponymy impacts on the spatial projection of the action, while anthroponymy helps outline and individualize characters. This paper aims to reveal the extent to which characters’ names reflect multiculturalism. To this end, the object of study consists of anthroponyms used in Cultural revolution, one of the literary creations by L. M. Arcade (Leonid Mămăligă’s pseudonym). For instance, the names of some of the main characters in the novel, twelve students, are indicative of a wide multicultural range: Bokutu, a Congolese who studies theology; Şloimi Pipirig, a Jew; Coco Ipsilanti, whose name has Greek roots. There are also other names which are suggestive in themselves: Catrafus, Voioşilă, Johny Doi, Smântânică, etc. It is precisely the presence of students pertaining to various nationalities, religions and ethnic groups which allows the author to introduce a series of multicultural elements.

Full text
Abstract:
The main objective of the study is to reveal the functional parameters of anthroponyms in the media texts. Methods of investigation: the method of media texts monitoring, the comparative method; the method of contextual analysis, the methods of functional analysis. Results. Anthroponyms in media texts contribute to the exact reproduction of facts, the display of a certain time-space. The use of an anthroponym in the media gives its bearer greater social significance; silencing an anthroponym demonstrates a desire to remove its bearer from the public agenda. Anthroponyms can reflect person’s social connections, inform about a belonging to a certain national, ethnic, age, social group. Conclusions Anthroponyms give media text more credibility, because they inform about a specific person in specific realities, personalize information. Anthroponyms are capable to mark time-space, therefore the actualization of proper names can be a means of transferring to another time, informing about forgotten historical facts and persons. Given the ability of anthroponyms – the names of famous persons – to be reduced, the journalist should take into account the possible difficulties of identifying such a person in a different time-space or under the condition of insufficient recognition. Entering the language game, anthroponyms are actualizing simultaneously meanings associated with different time-spaces, such ability can be effectively used to draw historical or cultural parallels, create an expressive load. Given the ability of anthroponyms to increase or decrease social status, journalists should be responsible in the selection of proper names as part of the factual material of the media text. Marking through anthroponyms the connection with national, social, age groups makes these words unique identifiers of the division into “own” or “strangers”, demonstrates the attitude of the speaker towards the bearer of his own name. Significance. The revealed functional parameters of anthroponyms as part of the actual material of the media text provide journalists with ample opportunities for the implementation of various communicative tasks. Key words: media text, anthroponym, factual material, language picture of the world, time-space, social communications.
