Abstract:
Ryckman has developed a reliable and valid scale to assess physical self-efficacy. This study reports the translation and use of this scale for a Japanese population. Analysis showed that the Japanese sample scored significantly lower than the American normative group. The Japanese phenomenon of taijin kyofusho (anthropophobia) is hypothesized as a reason for the difference.
