Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is a protein produced already in human fetus. It has an essential role in the differentiation of the reproductive tract, regulation of the ovaries and testes. The determination of serum AMH levels is used in clinical practice. Today, especially in reproductive medicine in the assessment of ovarian reserve and in the prediction of the response to ovarian stimulation. However, in young cancer patients, it can also predict the risk of ovarian failure after anticancer treatment. It finds further use in pediatric endocrinology in the diagnosis of sexual differentiation

Individuals with endometriosis usually undergo multiple surgeries due to the high recurrence rate of the condition. However, ovarian surgery tends to reduce the ovarian reserve, presenting a dilemma when deciding whether to recommend surgery or medical treatment for women of reproductive age. The impact of endometriomas on the residual volume of ovarian tissue remains controversial, and it

Abstract Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) was identified originally in connection with its role in male sexual differentiation. In females, AMH is secreted by ovarian granulosa cells of growing follicles and its serum levels correlate well with the remaining number of follicles, thus reflecting ovarian reserve. The aim of this study was to explore the expression and secretion of AMH in human ovarian development and in various disorders resulting in decreased reproductive function. In fetal ovaries, AMH expression was found to be initiated at midgestation and it increased gradually towards term. In

Anti-Müllerian hormone appears to play central role in regulation of oocyte recruitment and folliculogenesis. Serum AMH concentration was found to be one of the best predictors of ovarian performance in IVF treatment. Consequently many fertility centres have introduced AMH for the assessment of ovarian reserve and as a tool for formulation of ovarian stimulation strategies in IVF. However published evidence on reliability of AMH assay methods and the role of AMH-tailored individualisation of ovarian stimulation in IVF appear to be weak. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is a homodimeric glycoprotein that is best known for its role in regression of the Müllerian duct in the male fetus. Accumulating evidence indicates that AMH also has an important role during different physiological processes after birth. In contrast to other species, relatively little is known about AMH in the horse. In chapter one, developmental and seasonal changes in serum AMH concentrations in male horses were determined, and the use of AMH for determination of retained cryptorchid testes was established. However in monovulatory species, despite its circulating levels being use as a marker of ovarian reserve and its suggested link to the aetiology of PCOS, little is known about its role a
