This study delves into the antonymous pair "light/heavy," commonly used in everyday interpersonal discourse, focusing on a comprehensive comparative analysis of the Chinese and English pressure antonyms "light/heavy." To learn more about this language phenomena, data taken from the Center for Chinese Linguistics PKU Corpus and the British National Corpus are analyzed. The analysis follows the framework of conceptual metaphor theory and is based on a semantic approach. The article deals with the description of the usage peculiarities in Russian everyday discourse of a number of prepositional-case structural unitsconstructions – forms-idioms (FId) (v kajf – ne v kajf, v mast’ – ne v mast’, k dobru – ne k dobru, v dukhe – ne v dukhe, v sebe – ne v sebe). The analysis of the corpus material showed that some similar pairs of forms-idioms are real antonyms (v kajf – ne v kajf, v mast’ – ne v mast’), and in other pairs of FId the presence or absence of a negative particle changes not just semantics (plus to minus), but also grammar: Okh/ ne k dobru eto (predicate)
