Abstract:
The article examines the nature of the transmission of antonyms in dictionaries. Lexical-systematic connections, including the relationship of synonyms and antonyms within the semantic field, the influence of polysemy on the semantic relationships between words, the influence on the formation of an antonymic series, as well as the special importance of studying the expression word-formation of antonym connections in dictionaries. In lexicography, there are many types of antonym dictionaries. True, they differ from each other in the general concept of dictionaries, the structure of the dictionary, size and proximity to the industry. With the help of a dictionary of antonyms of the Kazakh language, the function of antonymy in terminology is differentiated and examples show that antonymic relations are considered a type of systematic relations in the linguistic vocabulary. Words that are in an antonymic relationship are used in the opposite sense and form a separate group. The goal and task of the antonym dictionary is to describe lexical units from the point of view of semantic opposition; it is indicated that antonyms can be formed from different roots and related words, and it is also shown that the meaning of antonyms is formed from related words. in a word, he is never aware of the opposite meaning. The appearance of words with opposite meanings is associated with the external environment. According to its logical and philosophical content, linguistic antonymy is considered as a manifestation of opposition in language.

Abstract:

Antonymy is considered a binary lexical-semantic opposition of words, a lexical-sematic relation among other relations such as synonymy, hyponymy, and meronymy. Several authors have categorized the binary opposition of antonyms when considering the typology of antonyms. Issues such as the use of antonyms in discourse, how different languages use antonyms, patterns of distribution, etc., will be dealt with in this paper. This study aims to provide a comparative perspective of the Albanian and English patterns of co-occurrence of antonymous pairs in sentences. The co-occurrence of antonyms in sentences and the roles of antonymous pairs have been the object of cross-linguistic study in different languages, including French, Swedish, Chinese, Serbian, Rumanian, etc. This article adds to the list of cross-linguist studies, providing a broader database for further comparative studies and opening the way to other comparative studies between similar and different languages other than English. This article aims to identify examples of antonym pairs co-occurring in the same syntactic frame using an empirical, quantitative method. The Albanian National Corpus is used as a “clinical setting” for the investigation. A detailed analysis of the distribution of such pairs in the English and Albanian corpora, with examples illustrating similarities and differences. Both languages show a predominance of ancillary and coordinated antonymy. Also, coordinated antonyms are more significant in number in both languages and are followed by the second major group of ancillary antonyms. Regarding differences, far more examples were classified as residual in Albanian than in English.

Abstract:
This article explores the use of corpora to identify characteristic and individual authorial peculiarities in the use of antonyms in nineteenth-century prose, based on sources such as major antonym dictionaries and corpora for texts by A. P. Chekhov, F. M. Dostoevsky, I. A. Goncharov, I. S. Turgenev, and L. N. Tolstoy. The analytical unit in question is a lexical bigram, i.e. two words in a single phrase, five words apart — left or right. The selection consists of 1933 antonym pairs in context. Comparative statistical analysis has revealed the existence of antonyms used by all the authors in question, a certain “core” of Russian literary antonymy. The most ubiquitous are juxtapositions with semantics such as: alive and dead, good and evil, as well as categories of time, space and emotion. The author identifies textual preconditions for the emergence of antonymous pairs. They are reflections on complex questions of existence, human psychology, interpersonal relationships, social life, etc. Antonyms are often used to describe a person’s appearance, character and psychological state. The article identifies idiostylistic features of the use of antonyms in the works of five Russian writers. A. P. Chekhov’s works are characterised by the use of antonyms to describe emotional and physical qualities of a person. In Dostoevsky, antonymy is prominent in themes of belief and disbelief. I. A. Goncharov points to controversies in the philosophy of life, while in Frigate “Pallada” he appears as a traveller, noting contrasting or complementary qualities of different ethnic groups. Rare examples of authorial use of antonymy in Turgenev’s work support the idiostylistic importance of emotional traits. Antonymy in Tolstoy’s prose is primarily linked to social and family spheres, to the understanding of history, and to the development of the state. The article outlines further directions for research on authorial antonyms based on a wider range of material.

Abstract:
This study investigates forms and types of antonyms in Kurdish. It adopts the descriptive approach in its analysis of antonymy.
The research falls into three sections in addition to the introduction and conclusion. Section One reviews opposition in general and antonomy in particular.
The second section is concerned with the forms of antonyms and the ways of forming them in morphology.
The third section deals with the classification adopted by Cruz’s(1986) concerning antonymy and the application of this classification to Kurdish language.
The study arrived at the following concluisons:

Antonoms in Kurdish are of two types: those which formed by themselves and those formed by morphological processes and rules.

Antonyms in Kurdish are of three types: gradable,non- gradable and directional and examples of each typ in Kurdish are abundant.

Abstract:
The relevance of this work is due to the priority of such research areas as pragmalinguistics, the theory of persuasion, the theory of antonymy and the linguistics of creativity, as well as the need of further investigation of expressive potential of antonymy in extremely popular advertising texts. The purpose of this work is to analyze the types of lexical, morphological, syntactic and text-based antonyms involved in creating advertising slogans in Russian and English linguistic cultures. According to the results of the analysis of empirical material, these types include lexical systemic and individual author’s antonyms, antonymic postpositions, prepositions, grammatical forms representing categorical oppositions, inter-part-ofspeech antonyms, utterances based on antonymic models, words and phrases semantically equivalent to antonyms that form oppositions in a coherent text. Special attention is paid to the pragmatics of slogans with antonyms and to the language game performed with the help of antonyms of different types, as well as to the sources of creating individual author’s antonyms (words with peripheral antonymic semes, words with different spheres of use and emotional and expressive coloring, synonyms that turn into antonyms, precedent phenomena). The author comes to the conclusion that the creators of slogans try in every possible way to make unusual antonymic oppositions filled with a new meaning.

Abstract:
This study aims to identify the antonyms present in Surah Al-Waqiah. It provides a general description of antonyms (al-Tadhad), the theory used in determining antonyms (al-Tadhad), and the classification of antonym types (al-Tadhad) found in Surah Al-Waqi'ah based on the perspective of M. Ali Al-Kuli. The study adopts a library research approach, using the primary data of Surah Al-Waqi'ah from the Quran and secondary data from books and articles on semantics and antonyms. Data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman technique, involving data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The findings reveal six types of antonyms: mutadarrij antonyms (multilevel), juz'I antonyms (sections), imtidadiy antonyms (extensional or straight line), had (binary) antonyms, intisabiy (affinity) antonyms, and axis (poles) antonyms. However, from M. Ali Al-Khuli's perspective, Surah Al-Waqi'ah does not contain the antonyms of Antonim Amudi, Antonim Daairi, and Antonim Rotiby. The practical implication of this study is that every word in the Quran holds its aesthetic meaning.

Abstract:
Antonyms co-occur far more frequently than we might expect to by chance alone. However, few studies have adopted a corpus-based approach to examine antonym co-occurrences in Chinese, and disyllabic antonyms in Chinese have long been ignored in the literature. Therefore, this study turns to the Chinese Gigaword Corpus and includes both monosyllabic and disyllabic pairs for analysis, aiming to identify contrastive constructions in which antonyms in Chinese often co-occur and to examine antonym co-occurrence sequences in Chinese. First, it is found that most functional classes of antonymy in Chinese are associated with specific constructions. Second, a positive antonym in Chinese (e.g., dui ‘right’) usually precedes its negative (e.g., cuo ‘wrong’) counterpart when they co-occur, and the notion of positivity needs to be defined in a broad sense. Third, the behaviour of an antonym pair in Chinese can be influenced by its morphosyllabic structure and some language-external factors such as cognitive functions and socio-cultural values. Our understanding of antonymy in Chinese has been updated, and some striking similarities between Chinese and English in the use of antonyms have also been revealed. It is hoped that the findings of this study will invite more attention to the syntagmatic dimension of antonymy in Chinese.

Abstract:
The contextual-discursive and syntactic-combinatorial side of the canonical and non-canonical antonyms contribute to the shaping of an antonymically configured discourse, as well as to the relief of an antonymic communicative-discursive impact. We consider that, in a functional-contextual plan, one can delimit the hyperonym concept discursive (functional) antonymy, along with the hyponymic concepts: stylistic antonymy, phraseological antonymy, paremiologic antonymy, aphoristic antonymy, terminological antonymy, scientific antonymy, etc. At the same time, contextual or occasional antonymy is part of discursive antonymy because its context or statement is specific to both canonical and non-canonical, occasional, contextual antonyms. In the present study, the focus is on stylistic antonyms, trying to identify in the present discourse a linguistic paradigm of opposing terms.

Abstract:
Background. In the introductory part there is information about the methods of making antonyms in French, the phenomenon of lexical antonym in French phraseology, the semantics of antonymous phrases in French. Methods. In the methods section, there is a type of antonyms in French that are used instead of prefixes and reflect the fact that they reflect semantic features. Moreover, the specific features of lexical antonyms are qualitatively contrasted based on the level of character; the same situation is applied to the semantic meanings represented by lexico-phraseological units, the opposite meaning between two phraseological units, that is, the occurrence of the phenomenon of phraseological antonyms. Results. The result section also states that there is a phenomenon of lexical antonyms in phraseology, in which this phenomenon does not occur between two opposite phraseological units, but between two words with opposite meanings in the same phraseological unit. It is also said that in French phraseological units there are many antonymic components, and in the process of their analysis there are different cases. Discussion. In the discussion value, if the specific features of lexical antonyms are qualitatively contrasted based on the level of the character, then the development of phraseological antonyms is analyzed on the basis of identifying the contrasting characters.

"September 2013."<br>Includes bibliographical references (pages 138-144).<br>A problem is detected in how only, traditionally viewed, associates with Negative Quantifiers (NQs) like few, [at most n], and [less than n]. The predicted meanings, which negate the stronger alternatives of the relevant NQs, is shown to be incorrect. The attested meanings are shown to be truth-conditionally equivalent to the result of removing only, hence giving the illusion that only is vacuous. It is further observed that, given an NQ, sentences where only appears to be vacuous become ungrammatical when the NQ is replaced with its positive counterpart. I argue for a view that relates the two phenomena: the ungrammaticality of the only-positive cases explains the unavailability of the predicted meanings in only-negative cases. The attested readings for the negatives, where only appears to be vacuous, is derived from LFs that feature a silent existential quantifier above the NQ. Abstract:
Little research has been done on antonymic relations, a great deal of this has been done by linguists Paradis et al. Gamification was used in natural language acquisition by Bos and Nissim in their 2015 study about noun-noun compound relations, but gamification of information retrieval remains a relatively new field of study. This thesis reproduced work done by Paradis et al. in an attempt to answer the following questions for Swedish antonyms: will reversing word order in antonymic relations affect the strength of said word pair? Will the perceived strength of canonical antonyms have a lower variance than that of non-canonical antonyms? It will also examine whether giving points depending on the agreement with other users reduce the occurrence of extreme points on an ordinal scale? Two parallel studies were conducted, one using a web app which implemented consensus driven rewards, and another utilising a questionnaire. Reversing the order of the words did not to alter the perceived strength of the antonymic pair, which is consistent with the results acquired by Paradis et al. in 2009. Results regarding variance of canonical and non-canonical antonym pairs were inconclusive. An implementation with consensus driven rewards yielded more extreme values than the questionnaire.

Abstract:
This project begins with the observation that mapping culture in Early Modern England underwent explosive changes that profoundly effected the spatial perspectives of individuals. In order to understand the extent of such effects, this thesis examines the resonance between maps and theater in Early Modern England using Shakespeare's Antony of Antony and Cleopatra as a model for how individuals may have responded to maps in Early Modern England. The subject of conflicting spatial desires, Antony and his very body become a site of tension and resistance both within the play and upon the stage. As such, this project argues that Antony's body in Antony and Cleopatra demonstrates not only an Early Modern English anxiety regarding mapped space, but also a method of resistance to mapped space for Early Modern audiences.

Abstract:
The aim of my thesis is to give a uniform account of non-bivalent truth-value judgments induced by presuppositional expressions and by vague expression (namely judgments other than "True" or "False"). For example, a presuppositional sentence like 1 below is typically judged neither true nor false in a context where Oscar is not French, and a vague sentence like 2 is also reported as neither true or nor false in a context where Oscar is of an average height. The same holds of a hybrid sentence like 3, combining a vague adjective and a presuppositional expression, in a context where the interlocutor is of an average height:1. Oscar has realized that you are French.2. Oscar is old.3. Oscar has realized that you are old. Abstract:Drawing on systems defining three logical values (true, false and other) and discussed both in the literature on vagueness and in the literature on presupposition, I propose a system with five totally ordered values, thereby defining three intermediate levels between true and false. After collecting experimental data conflicting with the predictions of this system, I propose a system with four values which is compatible with the experimental results and where the four values are partially ordered along a dimension specific to vagueness and along a dimension specific to presupposition. To get further insights about truth-value judgments specific to vagueness, I conducted another set of experiments (in collaboration with Paul Égré), showing that speakers systematically reject contradictory descriptions of the form "old and young" but that they can accept contradictory descriptions of the form "neither old nor young", "neither old nor not old" and "old and not old". These results echo the idea that vague sentences like 1 can be judged "Neither true nor false" but also "True and false", and allow us to discriminate between two competing theories of adjectival antonyms

OSIYANOVA, A., and I. FALALEEVA. THE SPECIFICS OF THE TRANSLATION OF IRONY IN MARGARET MITCHELL’S NOVEL “GONE WITH THE WIND”. Science and Innovation Center Publishing House, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.12731/2077-1770-2022-14-2-3-23-30.

Abstract:
This article examines the specifics of the translation of irony in Margaret Mitchell’s novel “Gone with The Wind”. The relevance of the article lies in the problems of translating an artistic technique from English into Russian. The purpose of the article is to identify the definition of the term “irony” and ways to translate it based on the works of scientists. The research methodology consists of analyzing the techniques of translating quotations from the original text of the novel and its translation. As a result of the study, the most effective translation techniques were identified, such as: complete translation with minor lexical or grammatical transformations; antonymic translation; addition of semantic components; cultural and situational substitution. The specifics of the translation of irony in the text using transformation techniques were also determined, due to the special role of this literary technique in the context of the novel. The theoretical basis of this article is the classification of translation techniques by T. A. Kazakova. The conclusions of the study show which are the most effective translation techniques used in translating the artistic technique “irony” from English into Russian.
