Full textThis study highlights the usability and the technical quality of the Web, which today is much more widespread than before. Usability is now a requirement to be able to compete with rivals also in the online context, in order to get users to stay on the site. The study is looking at how to best develop a user-friendly website, without missing out on essential elements and functions. During the course two websites was compared, based on user-friendliness, with each other and against the theoretical basis in the area. Then, an observation and an interview with associated questionnaires was made with six selected respondents to critically review selected websites and then develop an entirely new website based of the result.

Full textPurpose – To see how different processes during the development of a User Interface affect the quality of its user-friendliness. Method – Case study with interviews and contextual observations and a design process where several iterations of prototypes was used. Lastly an analys where the process used during the development is studied and the quality of the User Interface is valued from a number of defined factors. Findings – The study shows that a design process with a focus on user-friendliness requires a lot of work beforehand and takes longer before an actual result kan be achieved while a process where user-friendliness is not a focus gives faster results but creates problems in the future because of a lower quality on the user-friendliness of the User Interface. Implications – The study shows that a while process with a focus on user-friendliness takes more resources and time in the beginning it produces a higher quality of work which saves time and resources in the future. The study therefor other studies of how a user-friendly User Interface can and should be developed. Limitations – The study lacked an opportunity to do testing in the User Interface’s real environment and is instead based on theories based on ISO’s definition of Quality in use instead of user tests which could have given a more credible result. The study also only studies two different processes and their result.

Full textDuring spring 2012, a new user-friendly display for a soft serve machine was developed conceptually with the the product development process as a basis. Basic requirements formulated in the beginning of the project where that the display aim to be user-friendly. The second was that this should be a LED backlit touch screen and the third that this screen have to work both in- and outdoors. To develop such a user-friendly interface as possible, the information were gathered both from a survey and behavioral sciences. From the science of behavior cognitive factors such as attention was considered in purpose to investigate which factors causes failure of perceiving information. Another aspect raised by behavioral science is how different colors and LED light affects us. The target audience for the product and thus for the survey was the users, the people who work daily with these machines. From the survey it was found that users wanted a sharp display that clearly states if the machine is working properly or not. During the concept generating phase three concepts was generated where the concepts "Ice" and "Display" best corresponded to the developed specification. From these a new concept "IceMood" was developed. The display is inspired by cars with three different screens, which in this case illustrates the unit quantity of ice cream mix which is left in the tank, temperature and viscosity. The basic idea behind these devices is to provide the user with a foreseeable interface of the most important operational information. Around the gauges either green or red is lit and in the middle of the gauges is a smiley. If the green around the gauges lit up and the smiley is happy it means that the machine is working properly.

Full textSecurity is a must on the Internet but websites must also be nice to visit and easy to use. To combine security with usability is not always that simple. This report contains basic facts about usability and security threats on Internet today. Besides that there is summary of earlier researches about how usability and security should be combined. This research covers how password input fields should be presented, passphrases and captcha. The study is based on testing of how a password input field should be presented, to be secure and still usable. The testcases gave useful answers about how a change from passwords to passphrases could improve the security and in the same time improve the memorability. The test also shows how the security technique affect the user and if it’s appropriate to use it on all websites. Results and effects of this is complemented with a comparison of ten of the most common captchas. The report’s conclusion about the question if it’s possible to increase security through usability, is that this is possible with communication and information to the user. The expectation is that chosen theories, with support from the study results, will get penetration in Internets future standards. Keywords in the report: Security, usability, passphrase, password field, captcha.

Full textThe purpose of my research was to examine the current information problems that Sepab Fordonsprodukter had with its material and the underlying cause of this. Based on my empirical work and my results of the interviews I have since developed a new proposal on the information. I have throughout the work focused on audience targeting with the subject information design, which according to me goes hand in hand. I have worked on the basis of qualitative methods with hermeneutics as a source of inspiration and information design principles to achieve this. My results showed that there were several factors in the published information material that was in need of improvement. The final product is a new information material to Sepabs new product which I have applied these theories in.

Full textMandometer® is a medical device, which assists patients with overweight and eating disorders to normalize their eating beahavior. Mandometer® has been developed by Mando Group AB and is used on Mandometer- and Mandolean Clinics in Sweden, USA and Australia in their treatment. A new version of Mandometer® has been recently developed, from generation four to generation five. It consists of a light scale and a mobile app, instead of a scale and a computer. No previous study about the usability of the new version has been done. On behalf of Mando Group AB has such an evaluation been executed using questionnaires and conversations with both patients and healthy individuals. The results have been compiled and analyzed, and based on this a conclusion has been drawn. The usability is sufficient, but there are some deficiencies. This can be fixed by the suggested improvements and the written instruction manual. The result also shows that the development of the product is a clear improvement compared to the previous version.
