Scores of a sample of 251 males (15% black) on the Adult Personality Inventory (API) were analyzed to provide preliminary evidence on what impact respondents' race might have on interpretation of test profiles. Within this relatively homogeneous sample of employed adults, statistically significant relationships were found for only two of the scales: Creative, on which whites scored higher, and Uncertainty, on which blacks scored higher. The magnitude of the observed relationships suggested that race is not a significant source of bias in the remaining scales of this inventory.
