Full textThis thesis is devoted to the study of some problems in discrete and continuous holomorphic dynamics with the tools of Pluripotential Theory. The first problem we consider involves the description of commuting pairs of holomorphic endomorphisms of the complex projective plane that do not share an iterate. We consider the case when their degrees coincide after some number of iterations. We show that these maps are either Lattès maps or lifts of one-dimensional Lattès maps. Together with a theorem of T.-C. Dinh and N. Sibony this result completes the classification of commuting pairs in dimension two. Later on, we turn our attention to the dynamics of laminations by complex manifolds. We show that, on a compact Kähler manifold, the square of the cohomology class of a foliated cycle directed by a transversally Lipschitz lamination is always zero. As a corollary we show that the complex projective space $\pr^n$ do not carry any transversally Lipschitz foliated cycle of dimension $q \leq \frac{n}{2}$, generalizing a result by J.E. Forn\ae ss and N. Sibony. In the last part we study Monge-Ampère measures with Hölder continuous potential. We show that these measures satisfy an analogue of a theorem of H. Skoda concerning the exponential integrability of plurisubharmonic functions in terms of its Lelong numbers. This result can be viewed as a strong compactness property of plurisubharmonic functions, a class of functions of fundamental importance in holomorphic dynamics

I determine the growth rate of the coefficient of the Laurent series of inverse of the Böttcher map for quadratic polynomials with escaping critical point. An inequality that yields a domain on which there is no critical value of the multiplier map is derived from the theory of quadratic differentials. I give an alternate proof of Levin criterium for non local connectedness of infinite satellite renormalizable quadratic Julia sets. A geometric model of this situation is also investigated

Full textIn this thesis we study holomorphic dynamical systems depending on parameters. Our main goal is to contribute to the establishment of a theory of stability and bifurcation in several complex variables, generalizing the one for rational maps based on the seminal works of Mané, Sad, Sullivan and Lyubich. For a family of polynomial like maps, we prove the equivalence of several notions of stability, among the others an asymptotic version of the holomorphic motion of the repelling cycles and of a full-measure subset of the Julia set. This can be seen as a measurable several variables generalization of the celebrated lambda-lemma and allows us to give a coherent definition of stability in this setting. Once holomorphic bifurcations are understood, we turn our attention to the Hausdorff continuity of Julia sets. We relate this property to the existence of Siegel discs in the Julia set, and give an example of such phenomenon. Finally, we approach the continuity from the point of view of parabolic implosion and we prove a two-dimensional Lavaurs Theorem, which allows us to study discontinuities for perturbations of maps tangent to the identity

Full textThis thesis covers two themes. The first begins by evaluating the width of unit balls in Banach spaces. Bounds for these quantities are found, focusing on the case of l^p balls. Widths are also related to mean dimension, an adaptation of entropy to cases where it would be infinite. However, this dynamical invariant turns out to be inefficient if one wishes to distinguish between the dynamical systems given by the unit ball of l^p(\Gamma; \rr). An alteration of mean dimension is thus introduced to deal with this case, but it is no longer a topological invariant but Hölder covariant. This is still sufficient to obtain obstructions. Another variant which relates to Von Neumann dimension is also introduced, following Gromov, and using an extension of the Orstein-Weiss lemma some (but not all) properties are shown. The second theme deals with pseudo-holomorphic curves. We first modify a result on the gluing of two pseudo-holomorphic curves so as to have a nore precise behaviour of the glued curve. Then pseudo-holomorphic cylinders are constructed from a chain of pseudo-holomorphic curves. Under strong assumptions, we obtain an interpolation result on these cylinders. This interpolation result has many consequences, in particular, that thedifferent cylinders obtained are simple, have different images, and form a family of infinite dimension. This theme is reunited with the first as this family has also positive mean dimension. An appendix contains an adaptation of "Taubes toolbox" (methods of elliptic analysis developed by Taubes in "The existence of anti-self-dual structures") to the 2-dimensional case

Full textThe scope of this thesis is the study of systems with long-range interactions (LR). The complexity of their dynamics evidences counter-intuitive and unexpected properties, as for instance the existence of out-of-equilibrium stationary states (QSS). Considering a system in the QSS, one may observe peculiar properties, as negative specific heat, statistical ensemble inequivalence and phenomena of self-organizations. The main theories of long-range interactions have been applied to describing self-gravitating systems, two-dimensional vortices, systems with wave-particle interactions and charged plasmas. My work has been initially dedicated to extending the Lynden-Bell solution for the HMF model, generalizing the analysis to multi-level water-bag initial condition that could approximate continuous distributions. Then I concentrated to the formal characterization of the thermodynamics of QSS in the canonical statistical ensemble. By applying the standard theory, it is possible to measure negative “kinetic” specific heat. This latter unexpected property leads to a violation of the second principle of thermodynamics. Such result forces us to reconsider the applicability of the accepted thermodynamic theory to LR systems. Afterwards I studied, in the context of the α-HMF model, the persistence of the typical characteristics of the LR regime in the limit of short-range dynamics. The results obtained suggests a generalization of the definition of LR systems. The last chapter is dedicated to the characterization of a novel LR model, a natural extension of α-HMF and of potential applicability

Full textWe study the Weinstein conjecture for some high dimensional contact manifolds. This conjecture asserts that every Reeb vector field on a closed oriented manifold has a closed orbit, and was proved by Taubes for every three manifold. We show that this statement holds for contact manifolds supported by an open book decomposition, when the page is obtained from a Weinstein domain by attaching a Weinstein handle along a loose, Legendrian, homologically trivial sphere. Attaching such a handle performs a contact surgery on the boundary of the domain, which leads to the creation of a small Reeb orbit for some particular contact form. In a first part, we study the properties of a family of holomorphic planes asymptotic to this orbit. In a second part, we show that the open book decomposition gives rise to a foliation of the symplectisation by holomorphic hypersurfaces, with respect to a suitable stable Hamiltonian structure. The latter can be perturbed into a contact structure supported by the open book decomposition. It allows us to describe a family of holomorphic planes near a given page, thus showing that these planes break along a contractible Reeb orbit

The first main result of this thesis relates to the study of composition operators on spaces of holomorphic functions: we compute the spectrum of an operator of composition by a Koenigs's symbol acting on the space of holomorphic functions on the open unit disk, and derive from it the general description of the spectrum of composition operators on Banach spaces of holomorphic functions. The key tool we develop in this study is a description of spectral projections associated with such operators.The second main result of this thesis relates to the thoery of universality: we extend to operator semigroups the notion of universality. Then, we prove the existence of a universal semigroup for quasi-contractive operators semigroups. We then show a similar result for concave semigroups

Full textThe subject of this thesis is to investigate two very natural questions in complex algebraic geometry. The first question asks if the universal covering of a compact Kähler manifold with a split tangent bundle is a product of two manifolds. We will establish a structure theory for manifolds with a split tangent bundle and use covering families of rational curves to show the existence of a fibre space structure. A discussion of the fibre space structure allows to give an affirmative answer to the question for several classes of manifolds. The second question asks if the positivity of a line bundle implies the positivity of the direct image of the adjoint line bundle under a flat projective morphism. We will see that the answer to this question depends on the positivity of the line bundle and its relation to the geometry of the morphism. We will show under a variety of conditions that the answer is to the affirmative

Full textSymplectic instanton homology is an invariant for closed oriented three-manifolds, defined by Manolescu and Woodward, which conjecturally corresponds to a symplectic version of a variant of Floer's instanton homology. In this thesis we study the behaviour of this invariant under connected sum, Dehn surgery, and four-dimensional cobordisms. We prove a Künneth-type formula for the connected sum: let Y and Y' be two closed oriented three-manifolds, we show that the symplectic instanton homology of their connected sum is isomorphic to the direct sum of the tensor product of their symplectic instanton homology, and a shift of their torsion product. We define twisted versions of this homology, and then prove an analog of the Floer exact sequence, relating the invariants of a Dehn surgery triad. We use this exact sequence to compute the rank of the groups associated to branched double covers of quasi-alternating links, some plumbings of disc bundles over spheres, and some integral Dehn surgeries along certain knots. We then define invariants for four dimensional cobordisms as maps between the symplectic instanton homology of the two boundaries. We show that among the three morphisms in the surgery exact sequence, two are such maps, associated to the handle-attachment cobordisms. We also give a vanishing criteria for such maps associated to blow-ups

Le but de ce mémoire est de développer la théorie des espaces de Hilbert à noyau reproduisant et d’utiliser celle-ci afin d’étudier trois espaces importants de fonctions holomorphes sur D, soit l’espace de Hardy, l’espace de Dirichlet et l’espace de Bergman, et de bien comprendre le résultat de Aleman, Hartz, McCarthy et Richter. Full textThis thesis studies properties and applications of different generalized Appell polynomials in the framework of Clifford analysis. As an example of 3D-quasi-conformal mappings realized by generalized Appell polynomials, an analogue of the complex Joukowski transformation of order two is introduced. The consideration of a Pascal n-simplex with hypercomplex entries allows stressing the combinatorial relevance of hypercomplex Appell polynomials. The concept of totally regular variables and its relation to generalized Appell polynomials leads to the construction of new bases for the space of homogeneous holomorphic polynomials whose elements are all isomorphic to the integer powers of the complex variable. For this reason, such polynomials are called pseudo-complex powers (PCP). Different variants of them are subject of a detailed investigation. Special attention is paid to the numerical aspects of PCP. An efficient algorithm based on complex arithmetic is proposed for their implementation. In this context a brief survey on numerical methods for inverting Vandermonde matrices is presented and a modified algorithm is proposed which illustrates advantages of a special type of PCP. Finally, combinatorial applications of generalized Appell polynomials are emphasized. The explicit expression of the coefficients of a particular type of Appell polynomials and their relation to a Pascal simplex with hypercomplex entries are derived. The comparison of two types of 3D Appell polynomials leads to the detection of new trigonometric summation formulas and combinatorial identities of Riordan-Sofo type characterized by their expression in terms of central binomial coefficients.
Esta tese estuda propriedades e aplicações de diferentes polinómios de Appell generalizados no contexto da análise de Clifford. Exemplificando uma transformação realizada por polinómios de Appell generalizados, é introduzida uma transformação análoga à transformação de Joukowski complexa de ordem dois. A análise de um n- simplex de Pascal com entradas hipercomplexas permite sublinhar a relevância combinatória de polinómios hipercomplexos de Appell. O conceito de variáveis totalmente regulares e a sua relação com polinómios de Appell generalizados conduz à construção de novas bases para o espaço dos polinómios homogéneos holomorfos cujos elementos são todos isomorfos às potências inteiras da variável complexa. Por este motivo, tais polinómios são chamados de potências pseudo-complexas (PCP). Diferentes variantes de PCP são objeto de uma investigação detalhada. É dada especial atenção aos aspectos numéricos de PCP. Um algoritmo eficiente baseado em aritmética complexa é proposto para a sua implementação. Neste contexto, é apresentado um breve resumo de métodos numéricos para inverter matrizes de Vandermonde e é proposto um algoritmo modificado para ilustrar as vantagens de um tipo especial de PCP. Finalmente, são enfatizadas aplicações combinatórias de polinómios de Appell generalizados. A expressão explícita dos coeficientes de um tipo particular de polinómios de Appell e a sua relação com um simplex de Pascal com entradas hipercomplexas são obtidas. A comparação de dois tipos de polinómios de Appell tridimensionais leva à deteção de novas fórmulas envolvendo somas trigonométricas e de identidades combinatórias do tipo de Riordan – Sofo, caracterizadas pela sua expressão em termos de coeficientes binomiais centrais.
