Abstract:
AbstractCirculant matrices over finite fields and over commutative finite chain rings have been of interest due to their nice algebraic structures and wide applications. In many cases, such matrices over rings have a closed connection with diagonal matrices over their extension rings. In this paper, the determinants of diagonal and circulant matrices over commutative finite chain rings R with residue field 𝔽q are studied. The number of n × n diagonal matrices over R of determinant a is determined for all elements a in R and for all positive integers n. Subsequently, the enumeration of nonsingular n × n circulant matrices over R of determinant a is given for all units a in R and all positive integers n such that gcd(n, q) = 1. In some cases, the number of singular n × n circulant matrices over R with a fixed determinant is determined through the link between the rings of circulant matrices and diagonal matrices. As applications, a brief discussion on the determinants of diagonal and circulant matrices over commutative finite principal ideal rings is given. Finally, some open problems and conjectures are posted

Abstract:
We explore the relationship between the Evans function, transmission coefficient and Fredholm determinant for systems of first-order linear differential operators on the real line. The applications we have in mind include linear stability problems associated with travelling wave solutions to nonlinear partial differential equations, for example reaction–diffusion or solitary wave equations. The Evans function and transmission coefficient, which are both finite determinants, are natural tools for both analytic and numerical determination of eigenvalues of such linear operators. However, inverting the eigenvalue problem by the free-state operator generates a natural linear integral eigenvalue problem whose solvability is determined through the corresponding infinite Fredholm determinant. The relationship between all three determinants has received a lot of recent attention. We focus on the case when the underlying Fredholm operator is a trace class perturbation of the identity. Our new results include (i) clarification of the sense in which the Evans function and transmission coefficient are equivalent and (ii) proof of the equivalence of the transmission coefficient and Fredholm determinant, in particular in the case of distinct far fields.

Abstract:
"Determiners have been used extensively in a selection of applications throughout history. It also biased many areas of mathematics such as linear algebra. There are algorithms commonly used for computing a matrix determinant such as: Laplace expansion, LDU decomposition, Cofactor algorithm, and permutation algorithms. The determinants of a quadratic matrix can be found using a diversity of these methods, including the well-known methods of the Leibniz formula and the Laplace expansion and permutation algorithms that computes the determinant of any n×n matrix in O(n!). In this paper, we first discuss three algorithms for finding determinants using permutations. Then we make out the algorithms in pseudo code and finally, we analyze the complexity and nature of the algorithms and compare them with each other. We present permutations algorithms and then analyze and compare them in terms of runtime, acceleration and competence, as the presented algorithms presented different results.

We summarize findings from an audit study investigating how unemployment duration, age, and holding a low-level “interim” job affect the likelihood that experienced college-educated females applying for administrative support jobs receive a callback from potential employers. The results show no relationship between callback rates and unemployment duration. In contrast, workers age 50 and older and workers with an “interim” job are significantly less likely to receive callbacks. We also summarize disparate findings in the growing literature of resume-based audit studies of career histories, and discuss avenues in which the literature could achieve results that are more comparable and externally valid.

Abstract:
PurposeThe concept of postponement has been developed over many years. Past empirical research has been conducted almost entirely in Western countries. This paper aims to investigate the current status of postponement applications in Greater China (including Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan) to ascertain the effects of some determinants (i.e. environmental uncertainty, production techniques, and information system (IS) maturity) on postponement application.Design/methodology/approachA field survey of big manufacturers of electronic/information technology, clothing, and electric appliances is conducted. A total of 106 usable responses are received from 411 surveys yielding a satisfactory response rate of 25.8 percent.FindingsThe result indicates that the number of applications of postponement in Greater China is growing and the incidence of postponement applications is higher than in the Western countries. Environmental uncertainty, production techniques, and ISs maturity have have positive effects on applications of postponement techniques. Some specific postponement strategies for the three industries studied are noted.Originality/valueFrom an exploratory perspective, the findings present in this paper may be useful in the sense that they give a broad and general picture of the current situation of the use of postponement in certain industries in Greater China.

Abstract:
SummaryBongaarts' aggregate model of the proximate determinants of fertility is applied to data from the 1976 National Fertility Survey in Nepal. Breast-feeding is shown to be the most important limiting factor, resulting in a reduction of about six children per woman. Decline in the duration of breast-feeding by one-fourth would increase fertility by one additional child per woman. The temporary separation of spouses due to migration is conjectured to be the second most important fertility inhibiting factor, not explicitly accounted for in the standard model. Results are presented for the three major ecological regions, urban-rural residence and educational attainment of the women.

Abstract:
This article describes how foreign direct investment in Mongolia has reached 3.9 billion US$ mainly in the mining sector that amounted approximately 40% of the year's GDP. Even though FDI into Mongolia has been grown along with the country's economic development with trade openness to the world, a few studies have used regression analysis to analyze determinant factors of FDI. This article has estimated the determinants attracting FDI inflow into Mongolia by using two methods: applying single country (Mongolia) data using the determinants attracting FDI inflow into Mongolia from 1995-2014, and applying the determinants attracting FDI from the top investment countries using panel data, using random and fixed effects models from 2005-2013. The study results showed that GDP of Mongolia has a positive and significant effect on the FDI inflow. It was also revealed that the partner countries located either too far away from or too close to Mongolia pay little attention to and play a small investment role in Mongolian FDI.

Abstract This article investigates determinants of the number of four-year colleges to which students apply and how the number of applications affects their probabilities of enrollment. To estimate the effect on enrollment, I use a novel instrument: the adoption rate of the Common Application near a student’s home. I find that applying to one additional college increases students’ likelihood of enrollment, but only for those applying to very few colleges. Going from one to two applications and two to three applications increases students’ probabilities of enrollment by 40% and 10%, respectively. This is partially due to the increase in the probability of being accepted to some college but also due to the increase in the probability of choosing to enroll, conditional on being accepted.

PurposeThis study aims to develop a comprehensive set of determinants and sub-determinant of eco-innovation (EI) and to propose an approach for their structuring and prioritisation.Design/methodology/approachA framework was developed based on a literature review, interpretive structural modelling (ISM) was used to structure the main determinants and the results were transferred into a six-phase quality function deployment (QFD) for prioritising the sub-determinants. The statistical population included 15 experts and the middle/top managers of 130 knowledge-based companies.FindingsBased on the results of the driving power and dependence diagram from the ISM, a seven-level classification of the main determinants has been used. The QFD results indicated ‘meeting environmental law standards’; ‘scale to support innovative strategies’; ‘commitment to continually improve and make eco-innovations’; ‘technological advisory oriented to environment’; ‘product and process EI oriented methods’; ‘improvements in energy efficiency across the company and the market’ and ‘reputation, brand image, and profit margin’ as the priorities of the sub-determinants of eco-innovation in the phases of the developed QFD.Practical implicationsThe findings of this study provide evidence of the usefulness of decision-making approaches such as ISM and QFD in resolving environmental problems, which is helpful to analysts and practitioners in the field of EI.Originality/valueThe novel ISM+EID2 approach proposed distinguishes this study from previous studies. The approach allows elaboration on the model presented by de Pacheco et al. (2017) by adding nine empirically derived sub-determinants.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze this phenomenon and identify its determinants using data from Brazilian higher education institutions. Design/methodology/approach Based on a data set comprehending 2,230 university students from 70 different institutions across the country, the authors develop five Probit models to assess impacts related to individual traits and systemic conditions on five dependent dimensions: entrepreneurial activity, potential entrepreneurs, high-impact entrepreneurship, serial entrepreneurship and innovation-driven entrepreneurship. Findings The lack of significance in many of the variables included in estimations suggests that student entrepreneurship seems to be a rather random phenomenon in Brazil. Research limitations/implications Findings pose challenges for student entrepreneurship, as targets for intervention are not clear. Originality/value Over the past decades, universities have been receiving an increasing demand to go beyond their role of producing science and technology to explore its knowledge potential to produce novel commercial applications. However, while there is a growing interest in ways to foster scientific academic entrepreneurship, universities also serve as a positive environment for student entrepreneurship training, knowledge sharing, testing ideas and learning. So far, the importance of student entrepreneurship has received far less attention than it likely deserves.

Abstract:
We report on the development of a new theoretical tool that allows for isospin projection of Slater determinants and we present its first applications. In particular, we determine the isospin mixing in ground states of N = Z nuclei and discuss its dependence on the size of the harmonic-oscillator basis used in the calculations. We also discuss the unphysical contribution to the isospin mixing caused by the spurious isospin-symmetry breaking inherent to the mean-field approach. We show that these contributions may be as large as 30% of the value of the isospin-mixing parameter.

Abstract:
AbstractWorldwide, stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality. Further, it leads to significant morbidity in the form of residual deficits and disability-adjusted life years. India with its culturally diverse environment and economically developing status presents unique challenges in providing stroke care. Various myths, misconceptions, poor knowledge about stroke, and poor availability of health resources afflict the nation and present barriers in stroke management. A multipronged approach to bring various disciplines together with the help of newer technologies such as smartphones and its applications need to be evolved to fight this catastrophic disease.

Abstract:
The determinants for accepting and using the e-Government revenue applications (e-filing) is a phenomenon most governments, including South Africa are still grappling with, and therefore, an ongoing information systems business leadership research is a key issue. The research problem is that despite the eGovernment revenue application being implemented and maintained at a high cost, there is little uptake and optimal use. The e-Government revenue application has greater benefits such as tax calculation accuracy, tax submission done timeously during any time of the day, improving tax efficiency by reducing administration cost. Since the value and the investment is huge, the burning question is then why the accepting and usage of e-Government revenue application by taxpayers not as it should? Information from previous studies are quite on this phenomenon, in the South African context and this then left a knowledge gaps, which this paper bridges. This paper focuses on explaining and exploring the determinants for adopting and using e-Government revenue application as reasons why some of taxpayers accept and use the revenue application while others are not using it are still unknown. Argument is that despite South Africa implemented a cutting-edge system since 2006, taxpayers still queue at its branches for manual submissions. There is a need to understand the determinants for acceptance and usage of eGovernment revenue application.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence of Technology Providers, Public Administrations and R&D Institutions on Cloud Computing adoption. This research also considers Killer Applications and Success Cases as other environmental factors. Design/methodology/approach Factorial analyses and structural equation models were used on a sample of high-technology firms located in technological parks in Southern Europe, with more than ten employees and sustained investments in R&D. Findings Results show that Technology Providers and Success Cases are determinant in Cloud Computing adoption. Moreover, Killer Applications are a forerunner for Success Cases. Practical implications An appropriate fit between the tools and resources provided by suppliers and the internal resources of the company is needed to create competitive advantages. Firms should evaluate Technology Providers, identify Success Cases to Cloud Computing adoption and implement technological benchmarking. Originality/value This study contributes to Cloud Computing adoption literature because it includes Technology Providers, Public Administrations and R&D Institutions simultaneously as well as other variables as Killer Applications and Success Cases. The importance of the external agents on information technology (IT) adoption, especially when the technologies to be adopted are new and in an emergent stage, together with the lack of prior investigations focusing on specific environmental factors affecting the adoption of these new, emerging IT, justify the value of this research.

Abstract:
The objective of this paper is to study the determinants of outsourcing of different levels of logistics activities in the food manufacturing industry. In our research, four different levels of logistics activities were examined: (1st level) transportation, (2nd level) packaging, (3rd level) transportation and inventory management, and (4th level) distribution network design. Questionnaires were mailed to logistics managers in the Netherlands and Taiwan of which an effective sample size of 114 were used in this study. Our results reveal that three theoretical perspectives (transaction cost theory, resource-based view, supply chain management) contribute to the explanation of an outsourcing decision, i.e. the determinant factors for logistics outsourcing in the food industry are: asset specificity, core closeness and supply chain complexity. Furthermore, the results show that each level of logistics activity has its own key outsourcing determinants.

Abstract:
This study investigated motivating and inhibiting (perceived sacrifice, privacy concerns) factors influencing undergraduate students' perceived advertising value and response to intrusive advertisements on mobile applications. Descriptive survey approach and multistage sampling were adopted. Data was collected from 311 four hundred level undergraduate students of University of Ibadan, Nigeria using structure questionnaire. Findings revealed that utilization of contextual information and perceived sacrifice were the strongest determinants of perceived advertising value of intrusive advertisements. Perceived control and privacy concerns were the strongest determinants of both responses to purchase and avoid advertised products. Trust and perceived sacrifice had the strongest influence on response to pass along advertisement to family and friends, while utilization of contextual information significantly determined response to search for more information on the advertised product. The study discusses implications of findings for mobile advertising agencies.

Abstract:
Abstract Due to their rich algebraic structures and wide applications, circulant matrices have been of interest and continuously studied. In this paper, n×n complex left and right circulant matrices whose first row consists of the coefficients in the expansion of (x + zy)n−1 are focused on, where z is a nonzero complex number and n is a positive integer. In the case where z ∈ {1, −1, i, −i}, explicit formulas for the determinants of such matrices are completely determined. Known results on the determinants of binomial circulant matrices can be viewed as the special case where z = 1. Finally, some remarks and open problems are discussed.
