In this paper, an efficient approximate sparse representation (SR) algorithm with multi-selection strategy is used to solve the image fusion problem. We have shown that the approximate SR is effective for image fusion even if the sparse coefficients are not the sparsest ones possible. A multi-selection strategy is used to accelerate the process of generating the approximate sparse coefficients which are used to guide the fusion of image patches. The relative parameters are also investigated experimentally to further reduce the computational time. The proposed method is compared with some state

The huge volume of time series data generated in many applications poses new challenges in the techniques of data storage, transmission, and computation. Further more, when the time series are in the form of streaming data, new problems emerge and new techniques are required because of the streaming characteristics, e.g. high volume, high speed and continuous flowing. Approximate representation is one of the most efficient and effective solutions to address the large-volume-high-speed problem. Computer vision tasks must handle situations where unknown objects appear and must detect and track some object which is not in the trained database. In such cases, the system must learn or, otherwise derive, descriptions of new objects. In this dissertation, we investigate creating a representation of previously unknown objects that newly appear in the scene. The representation is to create a viewpoint-invariant and scalenormalized model approximately describing an unknown object. Those prop
