Abstract:
The replacement of organic solutions in the extraction of limonin from citrus seeds with an alkaline solution was investigated. This method was based on the reversible conversion of limonin to limonoate A-ring lactone via ring-opening of D-ring lactone at different pH values. The extraction conditions, optimised using Taguchi experimental design, were as follows: pH 11, temperature 70°C, alkaline solution/seeds ratio 20:1 (v/w), ultrasonic power 800 W for 30 minutes. A yield of 7.5 mg/g (limonin/citrus seeds) of 98% pure limonin was obtained.

In general, the longest solution lifetimes (tppt) (several weeks) were found at 24°C and for the highest alkalinities and (or) large R, but long tppt were also found for R = 1.0 at the lower alkalinities. Solution lifetimes generally shortened when the temperature was raised, but the opposite effect was observed with the smaller Al concentrations whe

Biodiesel which comes from pure renewable resources provide an alternative fuel option for future. The rapid growth of the biodiesel industry will result in overproduction of less value glycerol and create a superfluity of this impure by-product. The synthesis of alkaline alumina catalyst for polyglycerol production via solvent free base-catalyzed etherification of low value glycerol is reported. The etherification of biodiesel derived glycerol to polyglycerol was studied in a heterogeneous catalysis under solvent free system, using alkalines over γ – alumina catalysts. All the catalysts were

As the world moves towards sustainable and renewable energy sources, there is a need for reliable energy storage systems. A good candidate for such an application could be to improve secondary aqueous zinc–manganese dioxide (Zn-MnO2) batteries. For this reason, different aqueous Zn-MnO2 battery technologies are discussed in this short review, focusing on how electrolytes with different pH affect the battery. Improvements and achievements in alkaline aqueous Zn-MnO2 batteries the recent years have been briefly reviewed. Additionally, mild to acidic aqueous electrolyte employment in Zn-MnO2 batt

Metal oxides such as antimony oxide and lead oxide can be dissolved in alkaline-aqueous organic solutions through various methods, including acid-base reactions, complexation, ion exchange, and redox reactions. These methods involve manipulating factors such as pH, temperature, type of solvent, concentration of metal oxide, and presence of other ions. By dissolving metal oxides, they can be extracted from various materials.

Different molecules have been tested as analog receptors due to their capacity to bind bacteria and prevent cell adhesion. By using in vitro assays, the present study characterized the aqueous and alkaline extracts from microalgae Pavlova lutheri and Pavlova gyrans and evaluated the capacity of these extracts to adhere to enterobacteria (Salmonella Typhimurium). The aqueous and alkaline extracts of both species were fractionated via freeze-thawing, giving rise to soluble and insoluble (precipitate) fractions in cold water. The obtained fractions were studied using thermogravimetric, methylatio

In cermet coatings with both ceramic and metal present, these can have very different corrosion potentials. Therefore, determination of the corrosion behaviour performance and its mechanism is crucial, especially in very acidic and alkaline environment. A conventional high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) tungsten carbide (WC)-Co coatings and a weld overlay tungsten carbide-nickel alloy cermet with carbide size of ~0.3-5 mm and ~50-140 mm respectively are used. Potentiodynamic tests are carried out in acidic and alkaline electrolytes: 0.5 M sulphuric acid, pH 0.45 and bentonite drilling fluid, pH 10.4

Abstract This paper concerns spectrofluorometric analysis of putrescine using orthophthaladehyde as a fluorophore in aqueous alkaline medium. Wavelengths of excitation and emission in acid, neutral, and alkaline media were different. There is a maximum intensity of fluorescence in alkaline medium 24 h after complexation compared with other media. Putrescine and orthophthaladehyde are used at an equimolar ratio, and the product is kinetically stable in alkaline medium. Calibration curves obtained gave limits of detection and quantification of 39 and 65 ng/mL, respectively. The correlation coeff
