The type of groundwater in the studied area is slightly brackish. In general, the dominant water type is calcium-sulfate. The reasons behind these different chemical groundwater types can be referred to the active ion exchange between the groundwater of the Dammam aquifer and Rus Formation. The groundwater of the Dammam unconfined aquifer is not suitable for human drinking in all the parameters properties. The groundwater class is fair in the Qasir Al-Ukhaider area, while the Shebcha area and Al-Salman area are poor class except the eastern part of Al-Salman area is very poor.

Anchialine sinkholes provide insight into coastal aquifer systems and coastal mixing processes. Aquifer microbial community function is usually inferred from hydrochemical information, but there are few direct studies of microbial communities in the Floridan Aquifer. Hospital Hole is a 43 m-deep stratified sinkhole under the Weeki Wachee River, FL, with three distinct brackish layers: a hypoxic layer, a chemocline and a sulfidic anoxic layer. Illumina sequencing and bioinformatic tools were used to reconstruct metabolic functions and interactions of microbial communities in each layer. Each la

Water source identification is important for water hazard controlling in coal mines. In this study, major ion concentrations of the groundwater collected from four representative aquifer systems in the Baishan coal mine, northern Anhui Province, China, have been analysed by a series of statistical methods. The results indicate that the major ion concentrations of the groundwater from different aquifer system are different with each other, and provided the possibility of water source identification based on hydrochemistry. The efficacy of water resource management and protection hinges on a profound understanding of the controlling factors and regulatory mechanisms that shape groundwater chemistry within aquifers. Despite this, our comprehension of how groundwater chemistry and ion sources vary across diverse aquifer types remained limited. To bridge this gap, our study conducted a detailed hydrochemical and statistical investigation of porous, fissured, and karst aquifers. The findings reveal the chemical facies change according to the depth and geological nature of the aquifer captured. Samples of deeper point captured upstream and from Cenomano-Turonien limestones are HCO3-Ca-Mg type and account for lowest electric conductivity (EC) values. However, samples of shallow points and downstream are Cl-SO4-Ca with important EC values.

Arsenic contamination in groundwater is a common groundwater problem worldwide. To manage groundwater resources effectively, it is crucial to determine the arsenic source. Taiwan’s Tsengwen Creek watershed is one of the known areas for groundwater arsenic contamination. Water-rock interactions are evaluated on a regional scale. A conceptual hydrogeological framework is first established based on groundwater hydrochemistry. The local aquifer system can be categorized into high-arsenic deep aquifer and low-arsenic shallow aquifer. The average geochemistry of sediments indicates that ar

Seasonal salinity along river mouths is generally observed in the coastal tracts of Kerala at places. The problem is felt during summer season with the incursion of sea water along river mouths, which imparts brackishness to the adjoining phreatic aquifer systems along the coastal tracts of Kerala. This process is reversible through seasons; during the rainy season, the aquifer freshens up and by summer it becomes brackish. However, the reports of brackish water in bore wells tapping deeper crystalline formations are quite rare in Kerala. This paper discusses the comparison of hydrochemical ch

Groundwater constitutes one of the main sources used to satisfy the water demands of the different users located in a basin. Current groundwater pumping rates in many cases exceed natural recharge, resulting in the overexploitation of aquifers and the deterioration of water quality. Consequently, many aquifer systems in the world have applied and adapted policies to manage the use of groundwater. In this article, we investigate the impacts of groundwater management policies on the Caplina aquifer located in the Atacama Desert, Peru.
