ABSTRACT The source area of groundwater for springs discharging from lithologically variably perched aquifers is essential to understand when establishing baseline aquifer characteristics. Stratigraphic data from hydrostratigraphic outcrops and geochemical data from springs were used to characterize the hydrogeology of a remote, data-poor aquifer. This study focuses on the hydrogeological variability within the shallow karst-siliciclastic Coconino (C) aquifer on the Kaibab Plateau, north of Grand Canyon National Park. Stratigraphic data were collected from 8 locations, and 22 C aquifer springs

The stratigraphy and hydrology of saline soils were investigated at 15 sites in Saskatchewan, Canada. At five sites (Series A) nests of piezometers were installed and at 10 sites (Series B) a single piezometer was installed in or near an aquifer. Piezometric surface data from the nests showed the potential for upward movement in all Series A sites. The electrical conductivity (EC) of water from Series A piezometers increased from the deepest to shallowest and there was a general increase in soil EC towards the soil surface. Most coastal aquifers undergo seawater intrusion. Mitigating this risk depends on a sound knowledge of flow mechanisms, well located and constructed wells, an effective management, suitable policies and the desire to conserve the aquifer. To this end, a comprehensive geological model is essential. The single most important question that the geological model should address is the degree and nature of the connection of the aquifer to the sea. Switzerland is geographically divided into three geologically differentiated regions linked to the Alpine orogeny: the Alps, the Plateau and the Jura. The Plateau separates the other two entities and constitutes the glacial foreland. From a stratigraphic point of view, it is classically characterised by a sub-horizontal molasse overlaid by Quaternary glacial or periglacial deposits inherited from the Würmian glaciation. The quintessential morainic facies of the northern Alps is the ground moraine, which varies in thickness but is often metric to plurimetric. This moraine has low permeabilities

Abstract:
Abstract San Juan Basin (SJB) is a geologic structural basin located in northwest New Mexico. Comprehensive field-scale reservoir simulation work was performed in finely constructed basin-wide geologic models, targeting sequestering over 120 million metric tons of CO2 for a period of 20 years. Petrophysical properties were populated through well logs and measurements on core samples obtained from nearby wells within the study area. Various critical storage trapping mechanisms were considered. The threshold pressure in delineating AoR is formulated based on guidance provided by the Environmenta

Abstract:
Juab Valley is a north-south-trending basin in the eastern Basin and Range Province. Juab Valley is bounded on the east by the Wasatch normal fault and the Wasatch Range and San Pitch Mountains, bounded on the west by Long Ridge and the West Hills. Juab Valley is at the southern end of Utah’s Wasatch Front, an area of projected rapid population growth and increased groundwater use. East-west-trending surface-water, groundwater, and water-rights boundaries approximately coincide along the valley’s geographic midline at Levan Ridge, an east-west trending watershed divide that separates the north

Abstract:
The Paskapoo Formation, which ranges in age from middle to upper Paleocene, is the major shallow aquifer in Alberta. This study is part of a larger GSC-led study on the potential environmental impact of hydrocarbon development in the Fox Creek area (west-central Alberta) on shallow aquifers. Fox Creek is located near the northern limit of the Paskapoo Formation. In addition to the underlying organic-rich source rocks in the study area, including the Duvernay Formation that is currently exploited for hydrocarbon resources, the Paskapoo Formation contains organic-rich intervals and coal seams. Abstract:
This study assesses the geothermal potential of Hot Sedimentary Aquifers underlying the Horn River Basin (HRB) based on analyses of borehole temperatures, geological and production data, core porosity and permeability measurements, and geophysical well logs. The proposed criteria are applied to evaluate the geothermal potential of the Horn River Group (HRG) and sub-HRG formations. Favourable spots are identified and ranked by applying temperature, thickness, porosity, permeability and flow rate mapping. The results show that the HRG and its underlying strata have a good potential of geothermal

This is the most comprehensive compilation of the geology of the Albuquerque Basin to be printed in 30 years. The area covered by this new compilation, though not as large as the earlier map, is presented at a scale nearly four times the detail (1:50,000 scale compared to the earlier map's 1:190,000 scale). This new geologic map is a compilation of sixteen 7.5-min USGS quadrangle maps and encompasses an area from Tijeras Arroyo on the south to Santa Ana Mesa north of Santa Ana and San Felipe Pueblos, and from the crest of the Sandia Mountains westward across the Rio Grande and onto the Llano d
