Testosterone stimulates the expression of IGF-I in cells and tissues that include prostate, muscle and muscle satellite cells, and the uterus. Here, the molecular mechanisms of this effect of testosterone were explored. Testosterone increased IGF-I mRNA levels in HepG2 and LNCaP cells and stimulated the activity of reporter genes controlled by 1.6 kb of the upstream promoter of the human IGF-I gene. An androgen-responsive region that was located between −1320 and −1420 bases upstream of the first codon was identified by truncation studies. The androgen-responsive region was found to contain tw

The wetting behavior and reactivity between molten pure Gd and polycrystalline 3YSZ substrate (ZrO2 stabilized with 3 wt% of Y2O3)were experimentally determined by a sessile drop method using a classical contact heating coupled with drop pushing procedure. The test was performed under an inert flowing gas atmosphere (Ar) at two temperatures of 1362?C and 1412?C. Immediately after melting (Tm=1341?C), liquid Gd did not wet the substrate forming a contact angle of ?=141?. The non-wetting to wetting transition (? < 90?) took place after about 110 seconds of interaction and was accompanied by a

Quasi–crystals of Al65Cu20RU15 alloy are known to be an icosahedral— phase (I— phase) of the F–type. This state has been confirmed to be stable near 1100 K, but perhaps not at temperatures higher than around 1300 K. In this paper we report high temperature behavior of this alloy. We have found that the stable I-phase would decompose into three or four phases at 1420 K, one of which is an I–phase having a different composition. We denote the lower temperature I–phase, I–phase(L), and this high temperature one, I–phase(H).5N Al and Cu and 3N Ru were arc-melted in Ar. The nominal composition of t

Background: Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) is a multisystem disease resulting from an autoimmune reaction to infection with group A beta haemolytic streptococcus. Acute rheumatic fever commonly occurs between 5-14 years of age.1 The major concern relating to acute rheumatic fever is often not the episode itself but the long-term consequences of damage to heart valves (Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) that often results from recurrent episodes of acute rheumatic fever. Abstract Introduction Although fusion genes other than the immunoglobulin (Ig) translocation, t(4;14), which results in IGH-WHSC1fusions, are not frequently detected in multiple myeloma (MM), recent evidence suggests that kinase fusion gene fusions do occur relatively frequently and may inform on treatment algorithms. Here we use a hybrid-capture based, next-generation sequencing assay to survey fusion genes in patients with MM. Methods We report on 1421 samples from 958 individuals diagnosed with either monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS), smoldering multiple myeloma (SMM) or

Dennoch ist Wissen über soziale Dynamiken, die solch ungleichen Risikolandschaften zugrunde liegen, gegenwärtig begrenzt.
