Karimallah, Kabbour. "L'assimilation en arabe classique : essai d'une analyse autosegmentale." Paris 3, 1987. http://www.theses.fr/1987PA030029.
Full textThe goal of this research is the study of assimilation processes in classical Arabic. The language in question, defined as litterary-coranic koine, is determined by the mixture of data relative to assimilation. The facts, under investigation, are taken from works made by some arabists like j. Cantineau (1941), H. Fleisch (1961) and A. Roman (1983). In this thesis, an attempt has been made to investigate the applicability of autosegmental analysis to some aspects of classical arabic phonology, namely vowel harmony, emphasis and voicing assimilation. Partial assimilation in classical arabic, is described as a spreading of a floating autosegment at level of "manner" matrixes, on the "cv" squeleton. Total assimilation, on the other hand, requires application association conventions at two tiers. In addition to this, morphophonological processes, like emphasis and voicing assimilation of prefix "ta" and infix "t", can be captured, since discontinuous morphemes are separate in morphophonological level and adjacent in the consonantal plane suggested by d. Archangeli (1985). Application of segmental phonology, elaborated by Chomsky and Halle (1968), leads to the following problems : - rules with two segments for vowel harmony and emphasis of liquids ; - morphophonological rules, in which, the morpheme boundary (+) is not motivated. Thus, voicing and emphasis of some derivational affixes in classical Arabic, can not be accounted for ; - intrinsic and extrinsic ordering of rules, are ad-hoc

It includes four parts: the first examines the notion of the dependency and the dependency of the Arab countries and concludes with some hypothesis on education and social heteronomy in these countries. The second reviews and analyses data on enrollment, koranic schools and curriculum to illustrate the gravity of the social heterogony and the directions of the social articulation conducted by the dominant social classes. The third deals with the social inequalities in educational opportunities, as they appear through the results of a longitudinal survey carried on 500 individuals in said (Lebanon). The survey includes school itineraries and professional status, as related to the racial background. The fourth deals with educational research and publications that appeared between 1920 and 1986 in Lebanon, trying to display their heterogony and the predominance of the modernist paradigm where the predicatory approach neglects the analysis of facts. Full textThe aim of this biographical work is to reconstruct the spiritual and intellectual itinerary of the famous sufi Muhyi al-din Ibn Arabi (d. 638 1240) by placing it, as much as possible, in the religious and historical context of his time. Ibn 'Arabi was born in Murcia (Spain) in 1165 and died in Damascus in 1240, after having spent most of his life travelling throughout the Islamic world, first in the Maghreb and then in its eastern regions. Thus his destiny was to participate in one of the most dramatic periods in the history of the Muslim world: in the west, where Ibn Arabi spent the first forty years of his life, the reconquista was constantly gaining new ground ; in the Islamic east, to which he emigrated, the crusades were continuing and the Mongols hordes were approaching. This study, based on the detailed examination of both Ibn 'Arabi's own voluminous writings and external sources, does more than simply retrace the chronology and external events of his life. It also attempts to outline and clarify the critical moments, the decisive spiritual stages of his life, while at the same time relating that extraordinary destiny to the society in which it was situated

This dissertation consists of three essays examining the consequences of oil price shocks on exchange rates and the economy of Saudi Arabia. In the first essay, we examine the impact of oil prices on the US dollar (USD) exchange rate in the flexible monetary model framework. We find evidence, based on the impulse response function analysis from the VEC model, suggesting the negative association between oil prices and the USD against 12 currencies. Furthermore, the results from out-of-sample forecasts indicate that oil prices play an essential role in improving the forecasting power of the monetary model of exchange rate determination. In the second essay, we analyze how G7 real exchange rates and monetary policy respond to oil supply, aggregate demand, and oil-specific demand shocks initiated by Killian (2009). Our evidence confirms that aggregate demand and oil specific demand shocks are associated with the depreciation of the real exchange rate for five countries whereas oil supply shocks lead to the depreciation of real exchange rate in four countries. Likewise, we find the monetary policy responds significantly only to aggregate demand and oil specific demand shocks in three countries while the monetary policy responds to real exchange rate shocks in four countries. In the third essay, we investigate the differential effects of oil shocks, developed by Killian (2009), on industrial production, inflation, and the nominal exchange rate of Saudi Arabia. The reported evidence shows that industrial production responds positively only to oil supply shocks. Likewise, we find evidence indicating that there is a positive impact of aggregate demand shocks on inflation. On the other hand, we find evidence suggesting that oil supply and demand shocks are associated with the nominal exchange rate depreciation.

The said specificity is known for two fondamental points: on the one side, the subjectivity of the right of private ownership and on the other, the social role which private ownership is called to fulfill. In methodological terms, this is translated by a synthesis of the two following elements:- subjectivity through the affirmation of the principale of the right of ownership. - the social role of private property which is carried out through the various controls to which the latter is submitted

Full textTerminology is a discipline that has recently acquired an important and recognized position among the disciplines concerned with the study of language. In the Arab world, scientific and technical terminology, including economic terminology, are in evolution. The Arabic language, which used to be the vehicle of scientific research, has employed such word-formation processes as derivation and composition in an endeavour to keep up with the growth of terminology. To be able to express new concepts, sometimes it opts for borrowing and calque, two processes which are not unanimously received by Arab linguists. These processes lead to synonymy that disturbs communication among Arabic users. The standardization of terms is a solution to this problem. In fact, the academies and institutes of Arabic combine their efforts in order to standardize the terminology in both parts of the Arab world: the East and the Maghreb. They also try to take advantage of the success of computers and the internet in developing databases for multilingual terminology and producing software for the automatic processing of Arabic, which allows for the continual updating of data

Full textThe thesis raises the issue of the «suffering body» by questioning Al-R̄ az̄ i 's(865?-925) medical philosophy. We start with the following hypothesis : the philosophical and metaphysical dimension of suffering is linked to the “physico-spiritual” dimension. On one hand, the philosophical and metaphysical dimension of suffering arises from the interpretation of the eternal soul in the body, because it tends to lean mistakenly towards material life, and body pleasures of which it becomes prisoner. (The myth of the fall of the soul). On the other hand, the “physical-spiritual” dimension of suffering appears in the imbalance arising from the excess of “physical transgression of the body” and/or physical abuse resulting from “spiritual and moral misconduct”. The issue to be examined (and this is the goal of this thesis) is whether medical art with preventive and curative practices, through various paths: the doctor, the hospital… represents - according to al-RÁzÐ - an extension of corrective philosophical behaviour, by restoring the initial balance and erasing the unfairness done to the soul and the body. The initial divine correction granted to the soul has as a goal to free it from material life, by giving it some philosophical knowledge that should save it and purify it

Full textThe study on arabic poetry in syria covers a historical period from 1946, syria's year of independence, to 1958, year of the syrio-egyptian pact. The study is divided into three distinct parts : a general introduction to the social, political and cultural situation in syria during the period being dealt with, and where the birth, the evolution and the strength of the major social classes are discussed. The political development is explained by the various mutations and changes undergone by the government in contingency with regional and international events. Thirdly, the principal forms of cultural production are approached : theater, novels and editing. The first part of the study is documentary, dealing with 27 syrian poets. A biographical summary is given for each author, as is an inventory of his works and publications from independence until now. Using large extracts representing each work, a general idea is given on its literary construction and its development, as related to the socio-political context of the period. The second part, an analytical study of 3 representative poets, deals with three syrian poets, nadim mohammed, umar abu risa, and sulayman al isa. These poets have been selected for their different social conditions as well as for their literary orientations : the three are respectively representative of the principal tendencies of the period : romantic, neo-classical and modernist. Starting from a detailed biographical analysis, the principal themes treated by each author are exposed, as are his writing style, prosody, and poetical form. The intentionally exhaustive research in this section enables a better comprehension of the poetical preoccupation of the time, and the slow development of modernity

Full textThe monarchic system established in libya after the independance was not able to find efficacious solutions of all socio-economical and political problems of the libyan society. Therefore, this monarchy had fallen in 1969, due especially to its instability after the oil discoveries and the introduction of the generalized monetary economy in libya. The new system of "liberator officers" established after the ist september 1969 revolution, will try to solve libyan problems with a political system based on the egyptian nasserian experience : council of commandment of revolution, having all executive and legislative authorities. But it still remains a dictatorial regime which cannot fulfy the libyan objectives. So, the "officers" would decide upon the "direct democraty" system, based on a larger participation of the people by means of the popular congresses and committees. In spite of all that, many problems are still to be solved; absenteeism, conflicts of interests, concentration of the power within military and technocrat forces. Thus, the libyan experience must overcome many obstacles and deficiencies in order to carry out the constitution of a proper democratic system

Full textThe teaching learning of arabic to the young algerian school-children poses questions which are still dealt with in a hugger-mugger way. This is due to the conceivers evaluations of the infant language before his entrance to school. The latter, view that the infant language at a preschool stage, is poor and not well-structured. Such an intuitive and groundless view-point has lead methodologists to advocate an oral teaching based on a reduced linguistic content, below the child's abilities. Our conviction that the first language is acquired in a condensed system of social relationships which are extremely ritualized, and which provide an appropriate ground for a second language to be grafted on, invalidates this thesis. De parting from our analysis of 297 narrative productions collected withim a population of 75 children divided up into 5 groups of age (5-9 years), and from contrasted social and economic back-grounds, we have tried to discover the real and potentieal competences of the child. Unlike the first part which was devoted to the theoretical context, the second part of our thesis, puts forward the results of the narrative and textual analysis. This has revealed that the child, as early as preschool level, is capable of concatenating a certain number of sentences on a standard model. All these chaonologically concatenated sentences are distributed after a narrative sheme which appears to be at work for 5 year-old children

Full textUmar an-nu'man epic contains the three greatest types of discourse : metonymies (recite), metaphoric (lyric poetry), discursive and intellectual. It reflects a royal arab and muslim family's concept of daily life, illustrating some conflicting situations which crests psychological, ethical and political tensions. The exposition will be examined in its entirety; its meaning will be uncovered by the non-systematic combination of two opposite plans : syntagmatic and paradigmatic. The analyse will be performed by some problems brought about by the mixing up of four approaches : morphology, semiotics, psychoanalyse and rhetoric. However, sing, symbol and discourse will be particularly stressed. The linguistic sing is, of course, liable to different connotations, so that semiotic analysis is possible. The poetic exposition has been written like a discursive unity analysable from the point of view of stylistics-rhetoric that entails the creation of metaphors and reproduction of syntactic and phonetic transformation (on the level of translation)

Full textIn the field of contemporary Arabic literature, the theme of intertextuality as the source of novelistic literary creation possesses a double origin. On the one hand, the study of major contemporary Arabic novelists shows that they make use of prior narratives of essentially epic, historical and religious character, reproducing them in a romantic style and context that is entirely their own, but without departing from the original theme. On the other, intertextuality as the source of literary creation takes for its foundation the role played by memory and knowledge. In order to grasp the way in which these two sources are used and why, we are going to approach the question by analyzing university studies and current literary criticism on the subject, thereby constructing an objective argument. Then we will structure our work in three parts. The first will be entitled: “Quotations and References”, a juxtaposition posing the question of the relationship between the intertextual quotation and the reader. The second part will be entitled: “Allusions and Evocations”. This pair of terms will be concerned with the relationship between intertextuality and memory (both historical and cultural), which is contained in the literature. Finally, the third part will be called: “Resumptions and Reorganisations” – these two terms raising the question of textual resumption and the divergent relationship existing between texts

It focuses on three subject fields: economy, finance and administration. With 23 official languages and 27 countries pending a further enlargement in thefuture, Europe needs to harmonize the concepts to surpass the misinterpretations and distorted understandings. Every country has its administrative and economic systemon its own and that suits his society and its culture, and it is often, in this case ,that the understanding of the concepts problems arises. The Arab countries which focused on the Arabization of borrowings also face this problem, without forgetting the Euro- Mediterranean zone, today called Union for the Mediterranean (UPM).It is therefore a research focused on the study of the concepts and terms in the subject fields well determined. Full textInformality is a social and economical phenomenon that has huge implications on societies. Over $3.1 trillion annually is lost to tax evasion worldwide (see The Tax Justice Network report). Informality means different things to different people. Sometimes this term is used to describe tax evasion and sometimes to refer to noncompliance with labor or regulations. Whatever definition is used, informality can be a serious problem in some countries, stifling investment, undermining the overall competetiveness of the whole economy and impeding growth. It could also be an important remedy in other countries playing a role as a mechanism of economic adjustment and source of livelihood for the poor and unemployed. Hart [1973] was the first anthropologist to observe, study and coin the word "informal economy" in his research in Accra and today’s literature is largely based on his work. Societies started acknowledging the importance of informality and then eventually economists, sociologists and anthropologists started analyzing its characteristics worldwide. […]

Full textOur research objective is to shed light on the variability of the media coverage of political events in Egypt in 2011 and 2013. To this end, we study two discursive moments identified in five national dailies of the French press (Le Monde, Le Figaro, Libération, La Croix, L'Humanité) and a sample of the Arabic-speaking (Al-Ahram, Al-Masry Al-Youm) and French-speaking (Al-Ahram Hebdo) Egyptian press. Our thesis focuses on the construction of the social meaning of events through journalistic discourse, taking into account the territories of diffusion and representations of force in both societies. We aim to identify discursive strategies based on a semiolinguistic analysis of the discourse, giving full importance to the scripto-visual enunciation of the press. Considering that the headlines, titles and editorials are three privileged textual "zones" to observe these strategies and the ideological and political orientation specific to each media organization, we seek to show that the media narrative and the designation of political actors and events are informed by the influence of socio-political contexts and illustrate the positions taken by the newspapers. We note a differentiated treatment of the two discursive moments (quantitative imbalance between 2011 and 2013, approval of the 2011 popular uprising, which is mythified, but perplexity in 2013), and also very marked contrasts between the actors put forward as well as their representatives according to the newspapers
Abbas, Munaf. "Les verbes de pensée en arabe et en français : un essai de classification dans une perspective de traduction." Thesis, Lyon 2, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011LYO20116/document.
Full textThis work proposes a universal classification of verbs of "thought". It also presents a comparative analytical study of this group of verbs in several languages. The differences between the approaches specific classifications of each language make the task of universal categorization more complex. That's why we're facing in this work to the exploration of all the specifics of these verbs in Arabic and French. We begin this research with an attempt to define what can be a verb of thinking. Then we offer a directory of verbs representing all sub-categories studied. The dictionary and the analysis of the data submitted will be the subject of our second game. The third part, it relies on cognitive-semantic analysis of these verbs. The fourth and final section presents the analysis of these verbs when identified in the aligned bilingual parallel corpus
