Abstract:
This paper tries to review the issue of Arabicization through languages policy in the Sudan by tracing the different periods of the ups and downs of this process in its social and political context. Arabization and Arabicization are two terms used to serve two different purposes. Arabization is the official orientation of the (ruling group) towards creating a pro-Arab environment, by adopting Arabic culture, Arabic language in addition to Islam as main features of Arabizing the Sudanese entity. The mechanism towards imposing this Arabization is through the use of Arabic, as the official language the group (government). Arabicization is an influential word in the history of education in Sudan. The Sudan faced two periods of colonialism before Independence, The Turkish and the Condominium (British-Egyptian) Rule. Through all these phases in addition to the Mahdist period between them, many changes and shifts took place in education and accordingly in the Arabicization process. During the Condominium period, the Christian missions tried strongly to separate the South Region from the North Region, and to achieve this goal the government fought against the Arabic language so it would not create a place among the people of the Southern Sudan. But in spite of all the efforts taken by the colonialists, Arabic language found its place as Lingua Franca among most of the Southern Sudan tribes. After independence, the Arabicization process pervaded education. Recently, the salvation revolution also has used Arabicization on a wider range, but Arabicization is still future project. Both Arabization and Arabicization are still controversial issues.

Abstract:
This study aims to discover the effect of language environment on learning the Arabic language held in Indonesia and Sudan and also to identify the patterns of influence in the acquisition of the Arabic language. In this study, the researcher used the analytical and comparative descriptive method by using various tools: oral and written test for Southeast Asian students who are learning the Arabic language in the Center for Language Development in Indonesia and the Institute of Arabic Language in Sudan. The interview was held to some experts in Arabic teaching who had academic experience in both environments. From this research, it is found that the difference between both environments in the effect is very low; the Indonesian environment may affect students more active than average students in the Sudanese environment. Active learning and active acquisition may remove these environmental boundaries and enables them to improve their Arabic language skills.

Abstract:
This research is qualitative in nature. It aims to investigate descriptively, analytically, and comparatively the modern AK model represented by the Sudan Open University Series, and the European framework, the common reference for Teaching Foreign Languages, to uncover what was achieved in them in terms of communication and language use. Accordingly, an integrated, multi-media approach has been adopted to enable the production and reception activities, and the spread of Arabic in vast areas of the world. Such a spread helps Arabic language to be in a hegemonic position with the other living languages. The study is based on getting benefit from human experiences and joint work in the field of teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers to meet the needs of learners. Such knowledge helps to overcome the pragmatic dimension dilemmas, and the duality between formal and colloquial, leading as a result to have a global recognition of its outputs. The study revealed the importance of building the communication and pragmatic capabilities of language learners since they both represent the life and vitality of language. It further necessitates rebuilding curricula and updating them in a way that makes communication and the use of language a reality. The research recommended eliminating any difficulties that face the Arabic language learner from the non-speakers, by making use of what was provided by the Common European Framework of Reference for Teaching Foreign Languages.

Abstract:
This paper investigates learning difficulties of the linguistic minority schoolchildren (LMS) in Darfur, Sudan, in the contexts of the current conflict and the official monolingual policy. Employing quantitative and qualitative data gathering tools, we examined how the LMS at the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps were educationally disadvantaged due to their low proficiency in Arabic, curricula developed insensitively to their identities and cultures, and how parents and teachers perceived of teaching the children in Arabic as the sole medium of instruction. The study concluded that monolingualism in education resulted in the underachievement of the IDPs schoolchildren; the vast majority of the parents and a great number of teachers believed the children could have achieved better had the teachers used, besides Arabic, native languages in teaching; and that learning of the children could be improved if their ethnic identities and cultures were integrated in curricula. Preferences of teaching the children in Arabic among the parents were primarily attributed to the current conflict, which gave rise to the revitalisation of native languages in Darfur. The teachers’ preferences thereof, however, differed – crudely traceable between one group of monolingual supporters whose perceptions were informed by their internalised state ideology of Arabicisation and another group of multilingual proponents whose viewpoints were derived from the trendy approaches favouring multilingualism in education. The findings also suggested that the government deliberately distanced itself from taking remedial interventions to mitigate the underachievement of the children with the expectation the displacement would expedite their linguistic and cultural assimilation, which have not only rendered them the most linguistically disenfranchised children in Sudan, but created the most profound de facto government language policy of its kind as well.

Abstract The present paper offers a review of Stefano Manfredi’s Arabi Juba: un pidgin-créole du Soudan du Sud (2017), discussing the potential benefits of its methodological approach for the field of Arabic linguistics and dialectology. Manfredi’s volume represents the latest and most comprehensive description of Juba Arabic, a pidgin / creole spoken in South Sudan. It includes a socio-historical introduction describing the conditions from which the speech community that gave rise to Juba Arabic first emerged, followed by nine chapters that provide a detailed description of the language at the phonological, morphological and syntactical levels. The paper also discusses how Manfredi’s approach goes in the direction of a linguistics of speech communities invoked by Magidow (2017) and how it might represent a model for future grammars of dialectal Arabic. Manfredi (2017), in fact, provides a multidimensional description of Juba Arabic, in which the diverse nature of its speakers (monolinguals native speakers vs bilinguals L2 speakers with different L1s) and the prolonged contact with its lexifier language (Sudanese Arabic) give origin to acrolectal and basilectal varieties. Manfredi analyzes internal variation from both a synchronic and diachronic perspective, resorting to the concept of “dynamic synchrony” to describe ongoing processes of language change. The linguistic situation of the Arabic-speaking world after the end of the colonial period, on the other hand, witnesses a more and more intense contact between different Arabic dialects and an increased influence from MSA, through mass media and growing rates of literacy. The situation of language contact that results from these circumstances needs more refined conceptual tools in order to be effectively described. For this reason, and in light of Magidow (2017), this review article argues that the approach adopted by Manfredi might be successfully imported in the field of Arabic dialectology.

Abstract:
The article discusses the information structure of Juba Arabic, an Arabic-based pidgincreole of South Sudan, showing how the expression of topic and focus is the result of a complex interaction of morphosyntactic and prosodic means. While the lexical elements used in the expression of topic and focus are Arabic-derived, no such influence can be found in the prosody. Both topic- and focus-marked utterances can be opposed to neutral ones. Topics are marked syntactically through left dislocation as well as prosodically. Morphosyntactic means include the use of the ‘almost-dedicated’ marker zátu for marking contrastive focus and the two dedicated particles yáwu and yawú, both derived from the multifunctional element ya. The articles further explores the grammaticalization path leading to the dedicated focus particles of Juba Arabic.

AbstractThis article explores the history of the creole South Sudanese Arabic language from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. It analyses the historical evidence of language use in the light of insights drawn from linguistic studies of creolisation to argue that South Sudanese Arabic became an innovative and necessary means of communication among multiple actors within new fields of interaction. The article argues that these fields of interaction were both the product and the arena of local state formation. Rather than marking the boundary of the state, the spread of this creole language indicates the enlarging arenas of participation in the local state. The development and use of South Sudanese Arabic as an unofficial lingua franca of local government, trade, and urbanisation demonstrates that communication and negotiation among local actors has been central to the long-term processes of state formation in South Sudan.

Methods of data collection in the form of questionnaires and interview guidelines. The source data comes from students who are or have written thesis and the leadership of the Department of Arabic Language Education UIN Sunan Kalijaga as stakeholders. The results showed there are eight factors that cause students of the Department of Arabic Language Education UIN Sunan Kalijaga prefer to write the thesis they are in the Indonesian language, there are four reasons to consider not mandatory thesis in Arabic in the Department of Arabic Language Education UIN Sunan Kalijaga and the third package of measures thesis Arabic for improve the quality of graduates, accompanied by step realization of each activity.

SUMMARY Toward a Different Language Policy in the Sudan The author provides a brief description of the language situation in the Sudan to show its ethnic and linguistic diversity. Departing from the prevailing tendency in studies of multilingualism, namely, the narrow enumeration of languages and speakers, he examines the actual correlation between language use and economic, political, and social factors. He stresses the importance of the notion of vehicular language as an objective means of measuring the true nature of linguistic diversity. Thus he includes in his study the Arabic dialects of the north as well as those of the south, where the situation seems particularly complicated. Finally, the process of the arabization of the country is studied to underline the link between linguistic and religious factors and the impact of this process on speakers of the vernacular. The author concludes by recommending a language policy that would take the multilingual character of Sudanese society into consideration and would aim for the establishment of an equilibrium among the various ethnic elements in the country.

The Baggara Belt constitutes the southernmost periphery of the Arabic-speaking world. It stretches over 2500 km from Nigeria to Sudan and it is largely inhabited by Arab semi-nomadic cattle herders. Despite its common sociohistorical background, the ethnography of Baggara nomads is complex, being the result of a long series of longitudinal migrations and contacts with different ethnolinguistic groups. Thanks to a number of comparative works, there is broad agreement on the inclusion of Baggara dialects within West Sudanic Arabic. However, little or nothing is known of the internal classification of Baggara Arabic. This paper seeks to provide a comparative overview of Baggara Arabic and to explain dialect convergences and divergences within the Baggara Belt in light of both internally and externally motivated changes. By providing a qualitative analysis of selected phonological, morphosyntactic, and lexical features, this study demonstrates that there is no overlapping between the ethnic and dialect borders of the Baggara Belt. Furthermore, it is argued that contact phenomena affecting Baggara Arabic cannot be reduced to a single substrate language, as these are rather induced by areal diffusion and language attrition. These elements support the hypothesis of a gradual process of Baggarization rather than a sudden ethnolinguistic hybridization between Arab and Fulani agropastoralist groups. Over and above, the paper aims at contributing to the debate on the internal classification of Sudanic Arabic by refining the isoglosses commonly adopted for the identification of a West Sudanic dialect subtype.

Political conflict in the Sudan and the spread of Arabic are threatening Afitti, a North Eastern Sudanic language that has received relatively little scholarly attention. In addition to presenting original data on the language, this paper shows that Afitti is markedly different from Nyimang, its nearest linguistic neighbor, in respect to the absence of a third tone, the lack of a contrast between dentals and alveolars, the absence of distinctive vowel length, and its limited labialization.

Abstract:
This particular study explores and identifies the obstacles faced in the process of translating idioms from the Arabic into the English. In fact, one of the most challenging issues in the field of translation is the process of translating idioms from the source language into the target language with maximum success in conveying similar connotation, conceptualization, as well as shades of meaning. Therefore, in meeting the objectives outlined in this study, a purposive sample that consisted of forty students pursuing B.A. in English at the Arts College of Al Imam AL Mahdi – Sudan had been selected. Other than that, the researcher employed the descriptive approach in the study to identify and to list down the problems faced by students in applying certain strategies to translate idioms from Arabic into English. As such, a translation test was carried out as an instrument for data collection. The test was comprised of twelve Arabic proverbs based on Speake (2008) classification of Proverbs, i.e. everyday experience, traditional wisdom, and folklore, to name a few. As a result, the outcomes of the study revealed several issues that must be ironed out in order to translate idiomatic expressions appropriately and accurately. Some significant factors that had been included are cultural aspects, sociolinguistic elements, linguistic and stylistic considerations and some particular meta-lingual factors.

Abstract:
Nubia constituted the area in the Nile Valley in the present day Sudan, the area which spread from the first cataract up to the place where the White Nile meets the Blue Nile. The area was inhabited by the population using a common language – Old Nubian. In the second half of the sixth century thanks to the missions send by the Byzantine Court, Nubia accepted Christianity as a state religion. Nubia immediately found itself in the area of influence of Byzantine culture. Byzantine administration, liturgy of the Eastern Church and the Greek language were introduced. In 641 the Arab conquest of Egypt took place. Soon after that in 642, the Arab army entered the Nubian territory and from this date centuries of clashes and peace treaties characterized relations between Nubians and Arab peoples. The 13th century marks slow decline of the kingdom of Nubia. Hostile Negro tribes from the South and South-West appear in the Mid Valley of Nile. Fights weaken the kingdom; slow islamization of the country follows, royal rule and Christian faith falls and together with those culture and arts deteriorates. The history of military as well as political or commercial Nubian-Arabic contacts over entire period of existence of Christian kingdom of Nubia undoubtedly had to bring about certain artistic trends in Nubia originating from rich heritage of Muslim culture. The culture of Christian Nubia originally based to considerable extent on Byzantine art, in course of time, subjected to more and more intense Arabic influence, significantly changed. Arabic components seen in Nubian church architecture, wall painting and art crafts became predominant, which over following centuries led to creation of Arabic culture of the contemporary Sudan.

The Language Development Center (P2B) is one of the institutions under management of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. This program has responsibility in strengthening Arabic language competence for all students. The standardization of Arabic language competencies is an Arabic language learning intensification program that is managed by P2B. P2B has made various efforts in improving student competence in Arabic, one of it is by reformulating the Arabic Language learning model, namely by implementing online learning using the E-edition Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) program. The Intensive Arabic Language learning program is done twice a week which are divided into two study groups based on the language competency classifications students. All Intensive Arabic Instructors have different learning strategies, adjusting the characteristics and competencies of their students in each class. As a final test is conducted using an online test called Final Online Test (FOT), It means to measure the results of the Arabic language learning that has been done. The type of this research is a qualitative descriptive analysis research, with deep interview, documentation, group discussion forum as data collection technique.

ABSTRACT This paper tries to uncover and elaborate on the management of the Al-Risalah Institute for Arabic language education and training. One of the informal institutions in the field of language education that has recently grown rapidly. Al-Risalah has successfully developed its wings in improving the quality of education, educators and students. Educator who is a special expert in teaching Arabic for non-Arabic from Sudan, Middle East with 15 years of experience in Indonesia. Although there are many informal institutions in the field of language that offer convenience in learning Arabic, many also experience difficulties and are unable to survive in the current era of globalization. This is because the management of the institution does not pay attention to quality and quality. Al-Risalah is present in the midst of Indonesian society who provides quality assurance in terms of institutional management and learning. This study uses a qualitative approach that describes critically in the discovery of meaning. The type and strategy used in this research is case study research by analyzing educational management theory. Data collection techniques are interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the planning of the Al-Risalah curriculum is very good and structured. In determining the program, Al-Risalah puts forward the aspects of communication and deliberation together between leaders, heads of departments and staff. Organizational structure, namely: 1 leader and pioneer of the Al-Risalah Institute, 3 staff, 1 head of division as well as staff, the number of students is approximately 100 people. The evaluation is carried out using the Al-Arabiyatu Bayna Yadaik book which has tests for each level. With the aim of having 4 language skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. Keywords: Analysis, Management, and Arabic ABSTRAK Tulisan ini mencoba mengungkap dan mengelaborasikan manajemen Lembaga Al-Risalah pendidikan bahasa Arab dan pelatihan. Salah satu lembaga informal di bidang pendidikan bahasa yang belakangan ini berkembang pesat. Al-Risalah telah sukses mengembangkan sayapnya dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan, tenaga pendidik dan siswa. Pendidik yang merupakan tenaga ahli spesial pengajaran bahasa arab untuk non Arab dari Sudan, Timur Tengah yang sudah berpengalaman selam 15 tahun di Indonesia. Meskipun sudah banyak lembaga informal di bidang bahasa yang menawarkan kemudahan dalam mempelajari bahasa arab namun banyak juga yang mengalami kesulitan dan tidak mampu bertahan di era globalisasi saat ini. Hal ini disebabkan karena manajemen lembaga yang tidak memerhatikan kualitas dan mutunya. Al-Risalah hadir di tengah-tengah masyarakat Indonesia yang memberikan jaminan kualitas dalam hal manajemen kelembagaan dan pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang mendeskripsikan secara kritis dalam penemuan makna. Tipe dan strategi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu case study research dengan menganalisis teori manajemen pendidikan, Teknik pengumpulan data yaitu interview, observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa planning kurikulum Al-Risalah sudah sangat baik dan terstruktur. Dalam penentuan program, Al-Risalah mengedepankan aspek komunikasi dan musyawarah secara bersama-sama antar pimpinan, kepala bagian dan staf. Struktur Organisasi yaitu : 1 pimpinan sekaligus perintis Lembaga Al-Risalah, 3 orang staf, 1 orang kepala bagian sekaligus sebagai staf, jumlah siswa kurang lebih 100 orang. Pengevaluasian dilakukan dengan menggunakan kitab Al-Arabiyatu Bayna Yadaik yang memiliki ujian-ujian setiap level. Dengan tujuan memiliki 4 kemahiran berbahasa: keterampilan mendengar, membaca, berbicara, dan menulis. Kata kunci: Analisis, Manajemen, dan Bahasa Arab.

Abstrak Bahasa Arab adalah bahasa Umat Islam, bahasa yang sudah menyebar keseluruh penjuru Dunia, tak terkecuali bumi Indonesia yang memiliki keberagaman suku, budaya dan bahasa. Kendati demikian, kemajemukan bahasa di Nusantara ini tidak menutupi bahasa yang masuk dari luar negri termasuk bahasa Arab. Bahkan bahasa Indonesia ini banyak megadopsi dari bahasa Arab. Kemudian, semakin banyaknya peminat masyarakat tanah air dengan bahasa Arab, maka otomatis dibutuhkan pula pengajar yang kompeten dalam bidang bahasa Arab. Sistem pengajaran bahasa Arab di Indosesia secara umum, dari dulu hingga sekarang masih banyal lembaga pendidikan terutama pesantren menggunakan metode dan keterampilan yang sama, tidak berkembang. Salah satu metode yang digunakan adalah metode al-qawāid wa al-tajamah. Metode ini kekurangannya adalah tidak memperhatikan empat keterampilan berbahasa Arab, yaitu istima’(menyimak), kalam (berbicara), qirāah (membaca), dan kitābah (menulis). Metode ini banyak mengasah keterampilan membaca saja. Oleh karena itu, dipandang perlu adanya penulisan terkait masalah ini dengan meneliti tentang penerapan keterampilan berbahasa Arab bersumber dari buku paduan pembelajaran bahasa arab untuk non penutur asli (non Arab), yaitu kitāb al-Idhāāt karya ‘Abdurrahman al-Fauzan. Adapun bentuk dari riset ini ialah studi literatur (kitab-kitab) yang sifatnya kualitatif, dalam metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode library research (studi pustaka) yang sumber utamanya (primer) adalah Kitāb al-Idhāāt yang fokus pada pembahasa penerapan keterampilan bahasa Arab untuk non Arab (‘ajam). Penulis berharap dengan teralisasinya penelitian ini para pengajar bahasa Arab di Nusantara mampu menerapkan keterampilan berbahasa Arab yang empat, yaitu keterampilan istima’(menyimak), kalam (berbicara), qirāah (membaca), dan kitābah (menulis) dengan maksimal. Abstract Arabic is the language of the Islamic ummah, a language that has spread throughout the world, including Indonesia, which has a diversity of ethnicities, cultures and languages. However, the diversity of languages in the archipelago does not cover the languages that have entered from abroad, including Arabic. Even the Indonesian language has adopted many of the Arabic language. Then, with the increasing number of homeland enthusiasts using Arabic, it automatically requires teachers who are competent in the field of Arabic. The Arabic language teaching system in Indonesia in general, from the past until now, many educational institutions, especially Islamic boarding schools, use the same methods and skills, not developed. One of the methods used is the al-qawāid wa al-tajamah method. The drawback of this method is that it does not pay attention to the four Arabic language skills, namely istima '(listening), kalam (speaking), qirāah (reading), and kitābah (writing). This method hones a lot of reading skills only. Therefore, it is deemed necessary to write about this problem by examining the application of Arabic language skills sourced from the Arabic language learning guide book for non-native speakers (non-Arabic), namely kitāb al-Idhāāt by 'Abdurrahman al-Fauzan. The form of this research is the study of literature (books) which are qualitative in nature, in this research method using the library research method (literature study) whose main source (primary) is Kitāb al-Idhāāt which focuses on the application of Arabic language skills for non Arabic ('ajam). The author hopes that with the realization of this research, Arabic language teachers in the archipelago will be able to apply the four Arabic language skills, namely istima '(listening), kalam (speaking), qirāah (reading), and kitābah (writing) skills maximally.

The results of this study are that the implementation of learning with the whole language approach through multimedia is in class D as an experimental class, the researcher also implements learning by not using the whole language approach through Multi Media as a comparison class that is in class B and based on the results of calculations performed using applications Minitab 16 can be seen that the value of the t-test from the pre-test and post-test table in the experimental class or class D is 10.99 and the value of the t-count from the class B pre-test and post-test table is 5.75.

Abstract:
This study aimed at describing the PBA curriculum development in the period of 1975-2013, viewed from ‘continuous and changing’ perspective on its components and exploring its causes. This was qualitative research with a historical approach, so that the data analysis was done by descriptive qualitative analysis. The results were as follows: first, in terms of the authority in curriculum compilation before KBK, the Government was quite dominant, and departments had role as curriculum implementers, although in the following years they were authorized to develop their own curriculum. Second, there were differences in naming the components and compositions of the curriculum structure in courses. Third, the learning process that was originally a transfer of knowledge (before KBK), teacher centered (TCL), and content based, turned into a method of inquiry (KBK) and sstudent centered learning (SCL). The outcomes shifted into the involvement of the community as stakeholders. Fourth, Arabic learning objective shifted from language goals that are only passive to holistic. The learning process also shifted on the materials, approaches, methods, techniques and evaluation.

Abstract The Islamic Nubian kingdom of Sinnār dominated the northern Nile-valley Sudan from about 1500 to 1821. During the eighteenth century the government began to issue official documents in the Arabic language. Of these, about seventy are known to exist today. The present study examines an extended dispute over landholding near the Nile confluence that generated a series of official documents. Specifically, it considers a pair of unusual early nineteenth-century records that document the invocation of the right of sanctuary by the leader of the defeated party.

In line with South Sudan’s vision of a self- governing community, much hope was invested in the English speaking world thereby making a shift from Arabisation from the North. As a result, the English language was adopted a marker of identity and opposition to Arabic, language of government, education as well as international communication. As part of South Sudan’s look south policy, English was made to be a second language as opposed to a foreign language. In tandem with this country’s vision the University of Juba is not spared from the adoption of English as the language of instruction and a learning subject. Due to the democratisation of schooling and education for all, enrolment in the learning of English is increasing and resultantly large classes are emerging. In view of this, the paper therefore examines and provides preliminary results on the nature and feasibility of some teaching and learning of English in large classes at the University of Juba. This was done in light of the principles and concepts of Richards and Rodgers’ (2001) Communicative Language Teaching approach. It emerges from the findings that in the absence of a teaching framework there is no uniformity on the strategies that being adopted by both learners and teachers in the learning and teaching of English as a second language.

The current study is conducted to evaluate the English language textbook used for university students who specialized in engineering; the case study of this research is the textbook which is indorsed to teach English to the university students of engineering college at Sudan International University. The main objective of this evaluation is to analyze the textbook to recognize whether it suits the engineering students. The adopted method for this study was descriptive analytical method. The researcher used the questionnaire, (an Arabic version) for a sample of (90) engineering college students. The findings of the study have shown that an overwhelming majority of the students agreed that the layout of the textbook is perfect and its design is suitable. Besides, they acknowledged that textbook is quite satisfactory in terms of its activities. Based on the above findings, the researcher comes to the conclusion that the textbook which is taught in this university, with all these positive views is definitely a favorable and useful textbook for the engineering students and at Sudan International University.

The development of interactive multimedia CD-based teaching materials is urgent because the learning process in the Arabic Education Department is not 100% done as expected. This can be seen from some indicators that have not been achieved in the teaching and learning process. First, the lecturers teaching the same courses of Arabic language skills do not have the same standards of the competencies that students need to achieve, the learning objectives of each meeting and the assessment. Second, the use of interactive multimedia CDs have not been widely used by all lecturers of Arabic language skills. Third, there was no standard of teaching material used by some lecturers who teach the courses of Arabic language skills despite the findings from previous studies that show 25% of students have general high schools background which cause disparate abilities among students in the department. This study is a reseach and development adopting Sugiono’s development stages combined with ADDIE design model and the ASSURE design model which is then termed as ADDIERE design. This study uses mixed qualitative and quantitative methods. The results of this study are the following. First, there is a set of teaching materials comprising a validated and empirically-proven efective an interactive multimedia CD and book. The book consists of 12 chapters with each covers four language skills. The CD combines autoplay, wondershare quiz creator, record, Arabic pad tool and text media, audio and images.

The study is aimed at investigating differences of Amiyah Sudanese and Syrian Arabic lexical forms and meanings in the field of kitchen appliances. It is a study of comparative historical linguistics that uses corpuses of both languages obtained from four Sudanese and Syrian native speaker students who utilize these tools in their everyday modern live. The authors collect the data by themselves applying their own compiled vocabulary list and Swadesh vocabulary list. The findings show that “kitchen appliances@ vocabularies in the Sudanese and Syrian are related to each other. This is evidenced by the the word pairs which (a) are identical or cooccurrence; (b) have a phonemic correspondence or recurrence; and (c) have phonetical similarity with one phoneme difference. In addition, the kitchen appliances usage changes too along with the need in identifying the new words or terms for the new kitchen appliances. It is concluded that the lexical form of Sudanese and Syrian Arabic is systematically compatible, in terms of sound aspects; however sounds of the Sudanese language change in the Syrian vocabulary. Studi ini bertujuan menyelidiki perbedaan bentuk dan makna dari kosakata bahasa Amiyah Sudan dan bahasa Arab Suriah dalam kosakata dapur dan apa saja bentuk dan makna kata-kata majemuk dalam peralatan dapur ini. Penelitian ini merupakan kajian Linguistik Historis Komparatif dengan menggunakan data dari kedua bahasa tersebut yang diperoleh dari empat mahasiswa penutur jati Sudan dan Suriah yang menggunakan alat masak tersebut setiap hari di era modern. Data dikumpulkan dengan mengacu pada daftar kosakata bahasa Swadesh dan daftar kosakata lainnya. Penelitian ini memperlihatkan bahwa kosakata "peralatan dapur" di Sudan dan Suriah saling terkait. Ini dibuktikan dengan penemuan pasangan kata yang: (a) identik atau terjadi bersamaan (b) memiliki korespondensi fonemik, atau re-aliran fonemik (c) memiliki kesamaan fonetis, dan memiliki satu perbedaan fonem. Penggunaan peralatan dapur juga berubah dengan begitu banyak nama-nama peralatan dapur yang dibutuhkan juga berbeda. Bertumpu pada hasil pembahasan dapat disimpulkan bahwa bentuk leksikal dari Sudan dan Suriah secara sistematis kompatibel, dalam hal aspek suara, ada beberapa suara dari bahasa Sudan yang berubah dalam kosa kata bahasa Syria. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى البحث في كيفية اختلاف أشكال ومعاني المفردات العربية السودانية والسورية في المفردات المطبخية و أشكالها ومعانيها المركبة. و حصل الباحث البيانات من أربعة متحدثين سودانيين وسوريين وهم يستخدمون الادوات المطبخية كل يوم في العصر. يتغير استخدام الأدوات المطبخية مع وجود العديد من أسماء معدات المطابخ المطلوبة أيضًا. تم جمع البيانات باستخدام إشارة إلى قائمة المفردات Swadesh وقوائم المفردات الأخرى التي جمعها المؤلف. تستخدم الدراسات اللغوية التاريخية المقارنة بيانات من اللغتين للمقارنة. أظهرت النتائج أن مفردات "أدوات المطبخ" في السودان وسوريا مترابطة. و يتضح هذا من خلال اكتشاف الكلمات الثنائية التي: (أ) متطابقة (ب) لها مراسلات صوتية، أو أن إعادة التدفق الصوتي (ج) لها أوجه تشابه صوتية، ولها اختلاف صوتي واحد. و بناءً على النتائج، يمكن أن يستنتج الباحث أن الشكل المعجمي للسودان وسوريا متوافق بشكل منهجي، من حيث الجوانب الصوتية، هناك بعض الأصوات من اللغة السودانية التي تتغير في المفردات السريانية.

Department of Arabic Education UIN Sunan Kalijaga has not set a policy on the obligation to write thesis in Arabic. Therefore, there are students who prefer to write their thesis in Indonesian. The article aims to find out the factors that cause students to prefer to write their thesis in Indonesian, the absence of policy writing thesis with Arabic and formulate a set of policy to upgrade the quality of graduate students by improving their paper. This is qualitative descriptive research in field research method. The data collection method gathered from questionare and interview. The data source were collected from the students who are still completing and had finished their undergraduste paper, and also the leader of Arabic Education Department as the stakeholder.The result shows eight factors that cause the students prefer to compose their undergraduate papers in Indonesian language. The are also four reasons to consider that it is not compulsory for the students to write the undergraduate paper in Arabic language. More over, there are three sets of policy about composing undergraduate paper to improve the quality of the graduate students the last is the steps of the realization of each activities

Abstract The aim of this study is to determine the research tren for the development of Arabic teaching materials in year 2017-2020 of Postgraduate students at UIN Sunan Ampel in Surabaya whether this tren is consistent with the development of Industrial Revolution 4.0, which is linked by a system that unites the real and virtual world, or vice versa. The research method used is descriptive analysis research by collecting library data, recording and processing literacy data related to these issues. The results showed that research on the development of Arabic teaching materials to improve four language skills was ranked first as the most emerging research topic with a percentage of 0.6%, secondly research on the design of Arabic teaching materials with a percentage of 0.08%, third research on the Arabic learning curriculum for comparative studies and its development with a percentage of 0.08%, then research on the pedagogical and professional competences of teachers and their effects on student achievement with a percentage of 0.07%, then technology-based research for learning Arabic with a value 0.07%, research on the influence of the language environment by 0.04%, then research on the development of an assessment instrument of 0.02% and research on strategies, media, and methods of learning Arabic as well as book analysis research respectively ranked last with a percentage of 0.01% as the least frequent research topic. Abstract:
The research is aimed to describe the types of grammatical errors, especially the process of forming Arabic noun phrases (NP) done by students of Department of Arabic Language and Literature of State University for Islamic Studies Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, and to explain the factors that influence those errors. The data of this study is taken from the result of writing exam in the class of kitābah muhakkamah or 'academic formal writing' of the fifth semester. The method, which is used to describe the grammatical errors, especially the making process of Arabic NPs, is the method of error analysis. The result of the analysis shows that the frequency of errors in the process of forming the Arabic NPs, which happens repeatedly, is when the patterns of NP are noun+noun (N+N) and noun+adjective (N+Adj). The error of NP with a pattern of N+N happens when the article (al-) at head noun is used, while the error of NP with a pattern of N+Adj happens when the article (al-) at head noun, which has definite modifier, is omitted. The factors, which influence the making errors of Arabic NP, are grammatical factors. The grammatical factors are caused by the different rules between the Indonesian and Arabic NP. On the other hand, the process of language acquisition of second or foreign language makes these problems worse.

The Shaiqiya are the northernmost Arabic-speaking community of the modern riverain Sudan, residing in the Nile bend below the Fourth Cataract as far as the borders of Nubian-speaking Dongola. Independent confirmation of the existence of the Shaiqiya under that name can be found in European sources of the sixteenth century, while charters, chronicles, saints' lives, and orally-preserved traditions allude to their participation in the political and cultural life of the wider kingdom of Sinnar, of which they formed a part. In November 1820 the Shaiqiya made one of their most dramatic contributions to the historical record by offering determined resistance to the invading Turkish armies of Muhammad Ali, Viceroy of Egypt. When they were defeated twice in quick succession, their homeland was subjected to six weeks of concentrated vengeance before the invaders marched on south. The erstwhile Shaiqi elite took service with the Turks as mercenary colonial troops and departed forever, slave revolts flared on the princely demesnes adjoining their vacant castles, and the servile entourages of the old lords disbanded and decamped. The survivors who remained, largely non-slave peasant cultivators, set out to build a new society under the tutelage of Turkish colonial officials. It is this nineteenth and early twentieth-century colonial society, as popularized internationally by the Shaiqi novelist al-Tayyib Salih and the Shaiqi ethnographer Haydar Ibrahim, that is usually understood today to constitute the traditional, historically authentic, pre-modern reality of the Shaiqiya experience.

Abstract:
Phonology (‘Ilmu Aṣwat) is a branch of linguistics that talks about the sound of language that is able to distinguish the meaning of a word or a science that studies the sounds of particular language according to its function to distinguish lexical meaning. The first problem in learing oral language is the problem of his speech. Before someone learns the meaning of various words and grammar, he must recognize the sounds used in that language. Therefore, the researcher proposes the title to find out some of the problems examined in this study: how to compare the phonological values between Arabic and Indonesian language in order to develop teaching materials for aṣwat sciense materials to identify these problems in depth and comprehensively. This research uses qualitaive-descriptive. The results of this study are a comparative study of phonological values between Arabic and Indonesian is the possibility of identical characteristics between both of them in term of places of articulation and the sound charasteristics.

Abstract:
The objective of the study is to evaluate the use of collection by using citation analysis to know the pattern of use of literature by the students of IAIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogtakarta in writing their theses based on kinds, languages, and literature which were dominantly quoted, to know the use of collection and the collection availability. The used methodologt in this research were descriptive statistical research which took all of IAIN Sunan Kalijaga students'theses collections in 2000 comprising 445 theses. Then, their bibliographies were taken and resulted in 11.058 quotes. Those theses represented five faculties. The analysis was presented in the form ofdata tabulation, percentage and frequency tables. The results showed that the pattern of use of literature in the theses based on the kinds of quoted literatures were books, they were 10133 times quoted (92%); magazines,journals and newspapers were 925 times (8%).Based on the languages, the compositions were Indonesian 8420 quoted (77%); Arabic 2263 (20%); English 375 (3%). Based on the titles, the results were that the students quoted the titles evenly and vary. It started from quoted frequencies far 196 (l.8%), 112 (1.0%),81( 0.7%), to the frequencyo of once quotation. The use level of collection by the students was high. It was based on the result of questionnaires which were based on the literature titles resulted in the evenly spread collection. The percentages vary. They were 1.8%, 1.0%, 0.7%, and 0.6% to 0.0%. The students complete their theses used the collection in the library of IAIN Sunan Kalijaga. Based on the collection availabitity, the conclusion was that the library provided 99.98 % of the needed collection. The variety of collection has to be increased in the future and in order to make the use of journal to be more effective, to develop Arabic language collection. Therefore, it needs to develop Arabic language collection. Emphasizing the ability in reading foreign literature, mainly in Arabic could increase the use of Arabic and English collections by the library user It was suggested that to get more accurqte view, this data has to be developed in the following studies, such as by comparing the literature circulation data. This study is expected to be a starting study for the next studies on the productivity of the writer and the old fashioned literature because it still needs subsequent study for the sake of the library collection development. Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to assess the Quality of Agricultural Graduates, employers’ perceptions of the employability and skills. A descriptive, analytical statistics, multistage random sampling method was adopted. Where two types of questionnaires were distributed to the Graduates and institutions associated with Sustainable agriculture (SA). The collected data was analyzed by Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS). The results revealed some respondents began higher education in Arabic (66.7%), while others in English (33.3%). The respondents faced with difficulties in understanding the courses due to teaching methods (36.7%), language (33.3%), and curriculum (30%). The result indicated some respondents (56.7%) do not have back ground about (SA). The respondents in the Ministries of Agriculture assessed the Graduates in regard to agricultural skills, and confidence to perform duties as fair (10%), and good (23.3%), but, for reliability, managerial skills, tactic and ability to participate in forums as fair (6.7%). Good (27.7%), fair (3.3%), and good (30%) respectively. Assessment of the Graduates at Research Centers, were assessed in relation to Research methodology, statistical analysis, and writing scientific papers as good (40 %,).While for Software skills as excellent (100%), and for Agricultural Technology Transfer as very good (80%). While; the respondents from Faculties of Agriculture, assessed the Graduated for practical skills, teaching ability, skills of writing scientific papers, participation in workshops and seminars as good (93.3%), very good (6.7%), fair (6.7) and very good (33.3%), respectively. The Graduates’ quality is below the expectations. Based on the above findings, the study recommends the review of the whole educational system, Faculties of Agriculture to include the concepts of sustainable agriculture in their curriculum and give high consideration to practical part. In the same context, further study is recommended including the whole Country.

One of the fundamental weaknesses of Arabic language teaching system in non-Arab circles, especially in Indonesia, is the weakness of the teaching curriculum that is applied. In all its aspects, especially the vision and methodology, the existing curriculum generally teaches Arabic with a traditional orientation, ie for religious purposes with accentuation on aspects of grammar mastery and translation skills. For the present time, the teaching system with such curriculum model is no longer relevant and therefore must be in the fox immediately. Because, when referring to the development of today's Arabic language as an international language is no longer only functioning as a religious language. But it has become a medium of communication all aspects of life. Consequently, Arabic is no longer sufficient to be mastered only passively in the form of grammar mastery and translation skills, but must be communicated in a broader sense, both spoken and written. Therefore, the Arabic language teaching system has been developed with a modern oriented teaching curriculum. It is a well-designed curriculum with complete content and elements as a teaching system as well as teaching Arabic language for the purpose of supporting its role in today's day. Salah satu kelemahan mendasar system pengajaran bahasa arab di kalangan non arab terutama di Indonesia, adalah lemahnya kurikulum pengajaran yang di terapkan. Dalam segenap aspeknya, terutama visi dan metodologi, kurikulum yang ada pada umumnya mengajarka bahasa arab dengan orientasi tradisional, yakni demi tujuan keagamaan dengan aksentuasi pada aspek penguasaan grammar dan keahlian menterjemah. Untuk masa sekarang ini, system pengajaran dengan model kurikulum seperti ini tidak lagi relevan dan oleh karenanya harus segera di rubah. Sebab, kalau merujuk pada perkembangan dewasa ini bahasa arab sebagai bahasa internasional tidak lagi hanya berfungsi sebatas bahasa agama. Akan tetapi telah menjadi media komunikasi seluruh aspek kehidupan. Konsekuensinya, bahasa arab tidak lagi cukup hanya dikuasai secara pasif dalam bentuk penguasaan grammar dan keahlian menterjemah, akan tetapi harus dikuasai secara komunikatif dalam pengertian yang lebih luas, baik lisan maupun tulisan. Oleh karenanya, system pengajaran bahasa arab sudah saatnya dikembangkan dengan kurikulum pengajaran yang berorientasi modern. Yakni kurikulum yang dirancang dengan muatan dan unsure- unsure yang lengkap sebagai sebuah system pengajaran sertamengarahkan pengajaran bahasa arab untuk tujuan yang mendukung perannya dizaman sekarang ini.

The Waalo Kingdom's tradition of origin, also identified by the name of its principal hero Njaajan Njaay (N'Diadiane N'Diaye), is not one of the better-known narrative texts of the Western Sudan, simply because there is not much of it and few variants have circulated in print; among the latter is one collected by Brasseur in 1778 and published in Jean Boulégue, Le Grand Jolof (XIII–XVI siècle), in 1987 (absent from this volume's bibliography) and another by Bérenger-Fèraud in Recueil de Contes Populaires de la Sénégambie, 1885. The 975-line variant presented here is therefore a welcome addition to that modest but interesting body of oral literature. This one includes the original Wolof-language text and an annotated English translation by the author. Appendices include two genealogies of Njaajan Njaay, one translated from the Arabic, and another from Wolof.

Abstract:
The study explored religious education (RE), Islamic and Christian, in the Arab world and its role in qualifying students to university education, taking Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Egypt as models. A controversy about the validity of RE as a bridge to university education in the Arab world provided the impetus to carry out the present study. Using the descriptive analytical method, the author studied the reality of RE with its different types in the selected countries and the extent to which these experiences are successful. The results revealed that the three RE experiences are successful. RE was found to have many educational and behavioral effects, e.g., elimination of religious extremism, alleviation of oppression experienced by religious minorities and acquisition of good behavior. It also proved to furnish students with many important skills such as co-existence and respect for others. Students of religious schools in the three countries were found to achieve good results that qualified them to all branches of knowledge, applied and theoretical, in university education. They even excelled their counterparts in general education schools. Recommendations and suggestions for further research are offered.

This article aims to describe the profile of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Arabic Language Teachers in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, the relevance of the academic qualifications of Arabic Language Teachers with Subjects taught in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri, and the competence of Arabic Language Teachers in terms of students' perspectives. The research method used is descriptive quantitative, with data collection techniques such as questionnaires and documentation. The results showed that when viewed from academic qualifications, Arabic teachers who already have PBA S1 academic qualifications had a percentage of 80% and other S1 academic qualifications of 20%. Referring to these data, the relevance of Arabic language science to subjects taught based on academic qualifications is 80:20. Whereas if the scientific relevance is reviewed from the professional certificate, Arabic teachers who have professional certificates as professional Arabic teachers are 60% and those that have not been certified are 40%. Based on students' perspectives, the competence of Arabic language teachers in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Bangka Belitung Islands Province is as follows: Pedagogical Competence with a mean score of 2.64, Professional Competence of 3.00, Social Competence of 3.03, and Personality Competence of 3.04. The overall average score of the four competencies is 2.99 with the interpretation "Enough". Of the three madrasas that are the objects of research, teachers pedagogical competence is a major issue that needs teachers attention. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan profil guru bahasa Arab Madrasah Aliyah Negeri di Provinsi Kepulauan Bangka Belitung, relevansi kualifikasi akademik guru bahasa Arab dengan mata Pelajaran yang diampu di Madrasah Aliyah Negeri, serta kompetensi guru bahasa Arab ditinjau dari perspektif siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa angket dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jika ditinjau dari kualifikasi akademik, guru bahasa Arab yang sudah memiliki kualifikasi akademik S1 PBA memiliki prosentase sebesar 80% dan kualifikasi akademik S1 lainnya sebesar 20%. Mengacu kepada data tersebut relevansi keilmuan guru bahasa Arab dengan mata pelajaran yang diampu berdasarkan kualifikasi akademik sebesar 80:20. Sedangkan jika relevansi keilmuan ditinjau dari sertifikat pendidik, guru bahasa Arab yang memiliki sertifikat pendidik sebagai guru bahasa Arab profesional sebesar 60% dan yang belum tersertifikasi sebesar 40%. Berdasarkan perspektif siswa kompetensi guru bahasa Arab di Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Provinsi Kepulauan Bangka Belitung adalah sebagai berikut: rerata skor kompetensi pedagogik sebesar 2.64, rerata skor kompetensi profesional sebesar 3.00, kompetensi sosial memiliki rerata skor sebesar 3.03, dan rerata skor untuk kompetensi kepribadian sebesar 3.04. Rerata skor secara umum dari empat kompetensi tersebut adalah 2.99 dengan interpretasi “Cukup”. Dari ketiga madrasah yang menjadi obyek penelitian, kompetensi pedagogik guru menjadi persoalan utama yang perlu mendapat perhatian guru.

Abstract ‘Saʿidi dialect’ is a general phrase used by Egyptians to refer to a group of dialects spoken in an area that stretches from the south of Cairo to the border of the Sudan. Of all the dialects found throughout Egypt and the Arab world, Saʿidi Arabic is one of the most ridiculed, stigmatised and stereotyped in the media. Salient phonological and semantic features of Saʿidi are associated with undesirable attributes such as ignorance, stupidity and a lack of sophistication. These negative indexes are often emphasised by the media. However, some Saʿidi intellectuals and public figures employ these very features to perform their identity, thus creating a positive stance and highlighting the favourable traits of Saʿidis. This article examines data from the media, including soap operas, poetry – both written and performed – postcards and songs. It utilises the concepts of indexicality and stance-taking to explore the metalinguistic discourse of Saʿidis and non-Saʿidis in the media. In addition, the article examines indexes of Saʿidi features that are considered second order indexes, but that are used by performers who employ a Saʿidi dialect to create a stance that is remarkably distinct from the rest of Egypt.

AbstractIntroductionThe challenges presented by traumatic injuries in low-resource communities are especially relevant in South Sudan. This study was conducted to assess whether a 3-day wilderness first aid (WFA) training course taught in South Sudan improved first aid knowledge. Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO) Schools designed the course to teach people with limited medical knowledge to use materials from their environment to provide life-saving care in the event of an emergency.MethodsA pre-test/post-test study design was used to assess first aid knowledge of 46 community members in Kit, South Sudan, according to a protocol approved by the University of New England Institutional Review Board. The course and assessments were administered in English and translated in real-time to Acholi and Arabic, the two primary languages spoken in the Kit region. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and correlation analyses were conducted.ResultsResults included a statistically significant improvement in first aid knowledge after the 3-day training course: t(38)=3.94; P<.001. Although men started with more health care knowledge: (t(37)=2.79; P=.008), men and women demonstrated equal levels of knowledge upon course completion: t(37)=1.56; P=.88.ConclusionsThis research, which may be the first of its kind in South Sudan, provides evidence that a WFA training course in South Sudan is efficacious. Collocations are defined as ''the frequent co-occurrence of lexical items that naturally share the characteristics of semantic and grammatical dependencies"(Ibrahim, 2003: iii). In translation, collocations are considered a factor that makes translation more effective and powerful. However, translating collocations is an everlasting struggle for most students of translation. The present study aims at investigating the challenges that Sudanese EFL university students encounter when rendering English collocations into their Arabic equivalences and vice versa as well as the reasons behind these challenges. To this end, 26 Sudanese EFL students, between 20-30 years old, studying at Nahda College in Sudan, were selected. A diagnostic test composed of two questions is used as a tool for data collection. Frequencies, percentages, mean, and standard deviation are used to analyse the collected data. The results of this study manifests that Sudanese EFL university students encounter difficulties in translating collocations from English into Arabic and vice versa; the causes of these difficulties are due to students’ unawareness of the linguistic and cultural differences between the two languages as well as their heavy reliance on literal translation strategy.

Oleh karena itu, bahasa Arab sering disebut sebagai ilmu alat khususnya dalam memahami agama bagi umat Islam di seluruh dunia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pentingnya bahasa Arab bagi umat Islam di pedesaan Desa Ngreco Kecamatan Kandat Kabupaten Kediri. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif dengan beberapa tahapan yang telah ditentukan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bahasa Arab bagi umat Islam di pedesaan Desa Ngreco, Kecamatan Kandat, Kabupaten Kediri sudah dikenalkan sejak dini kepada anak-anak mereka. Hal ini karena bahasa Arab dipahami sebagai ilmu dasar untuk mempelajari dan memahami kitab-kitab yang semuanya menggunakan bahasa Arab, tidak hanya al-Qur’an dan Hadis. Sedangkan kitab-kitab tersebut merupakan pedoman yang digunakan oleh umat Islam untuk mempelajari pengetahuan ilmu agama. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga mengungkapkan bahwa tradisi anak-anak mempelajari bahasa Arab sejak dini di pedesaan Desa Ngreco, Kandat, Kediri sudah dilaksanakan secara turun-temurun karena orang tua mereka juga melakukan hal itu serupa oleh generasi sebelumnya.Arabic is the language chosen as the language used in the Qur'an and Hadith. Therefore, Arabic is often referred to as a science tool, especially in understanding religion for Muslims around the world. This study aims to determine the importance of Arabic for Muslims in rural areas of Ngreco Village, Kandat District, Kediri Regency. The method used in this research is a qualitative research method with several predetermined stages. The results of this study indicate that Arabic for Muslims in rural areas of Ngreco Village, Kandat District, Kediri Regency has been introduced early to their children. This is because Arabic is understood as the basic knowledge for studying and understanding books which all use Arabic, not only the Qur'an and Hadith. While these books are guidelines used by Muslims to study religious knowledge. In addition, this research also reveals that the tradition of children learning Arabic from an early age in the village of Ngreco Village, Kandat District, Kediri Regency has been carried out from generation to generation because their parents have also done the same thing by previous generations.

Language is the main characteristic that distinguishes humans from other creatures, with that language interacting and communicating. One theory of language acquisition and learning regarding language as a human trait is the generative transformative theory Noam Chomsky states that language is the innate potential possessed by humans from birth. Based on the theory, this study aims to analyze the innate potential of human language as a reference in the development of Arabic language learning, taking into account the innate potential of the language that is already possessed by students. It is expected that the potential of the language can be utilized and developed optimally in the process of learning Arabic. his study uses descriptive analysis method, and the conclusions obtained based on this research are curriculum design in Arabic language learning based on Chomsky Innate theory, namely students do not have to be given intensive training, students are given a broad opportunity to create speeches, the rules are given as long as it is needed, students are deployed to real situations in the communication process. Abstrak Bahasa merupakan ciri utama yang membedakan manusia dengan makhluk lainnya, dengan bahasa manusia berinteraksi dan berkomunikasi. Berdasarkan teori tersebut penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis potensi bawaan bahasa manusia sebagai acuan dalam pengembangan pembelajaran bahasa Arab, dengan memperhatikan potensi bawaan bahasa yang sudah dimiliki oleh peserta didik diharapkan potensi bahasa tersebut dapat dimanfaatkan dan dikembangkan secara optimal dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa Arab. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif, dan kesimpulan yang didapatkan berdasarkan penelitian ini berupa desain kurikulum pembelajaran bahasa Arab berdasarkan teori Innate Chomsky yaitu peserta didik tidak harus selalu diberi latihan (drill) secara intensif, siswa diberi kesempatan yang luas untuk mengkreasikan ujaran, kaidah nahwu diberikan selama hal tersebut diperlukan, siswa diterjunkan kedalam situasi nyata dalam proses komunikasi. Gustav Nachtigal is assuredly the most neglected, and the most unjustly so, of the major European travellers in Africa. On February 18, 1869, he set out from Tripoli, travelling southwards towards Bornu, just west of Lake Chad; he re-emerged from the African interior almost exactly five and a half years later, on August 10, 1874, at El-Obeid in what is today the Republic of Sudan. Of this marathon journey, Nachtigal left an account of correspondingly epic proportions, Sahara and Sudan. Published between 1879 and 1889, partly posthumously (Nachtigal died in 1885), the German text totalled some 2,000 pages. This rather daunting length, Nachtigal's somewhat rococo, even Doughty-esque style, and the lack for almost a century of a complete translation into any other language, have not dislodged him from the bibliographies of scholarly books about the area, but they have certainly limited the number of times he appears in footnotes. Yet the range of his interests is encyclopaedic. A qualified medical doctor, whose training had included some study with Professor Rudolf Virchow, one of the fathers of modern anthropology, at Wiirzburg, he had a keen sense of scientific precision in observation and description. He had lived, and practised medicine, for several years in North Africa, chiefly in Tunis, thus gaining a familiarity with at least Muslim Africa, and a command of Arabic. He continued to make his medical skills and supplies as widely available as possibly throughout his travels.

With the existence of learning media, not only overcoming limitations possessed by teacher in teaching and learning process, but with the existence of learning media created direct interaction between teaching materials and students, that will facilitate students in learning. Therefore, researchers used the camtasia video media as one of the learning media for Arabic that will be developed by students of Sunan Ampel Surabaya State Islamic University in third semester. This study uses the Class Action Research method so that researchers get the maximum value from the media developed by students by using three times of practicum for media improvement. Dua belas tahun sudah berjalan, akan tetapi, dari tim pengajar merasa masih adanya sebuah “kegagalan” dengan tingkat keberhasilan yang dicapai, baik dari ketercapaian materi ajar maupun kemahiran berbahasa yang diharapkan.</strong></p><p><strong>Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mendapatkan data terkait persepsi mahasiswa sastra Arab, Fakultas Sastra, UAI dalam proses pembelajaran yang dilaksanakan, yang dibagi kedalam lima bagian, yaitu: persepsi mahasiswa sastra Arab, Fakultas Sastra UAI terkait: tujuan pembalajaran kemahiran bahasa Arab, materi ajar dari mata kuliah kemahiran berbahasa, penerapan metodologi pengajaran kemahiran berbahasa, dosen pengajar mata kuliah kemahiran bahasa Arab dimata mahasiswa dan persepsi mahasiswa tentang teknik evaluasi yang digunakan oleh dosen pengajar mata kuliah kemahiran berbahasa di program Studi Sastra Arab UAI.</strong></p><p><strong>Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi bahan evaluasi proses pembelajaran bahasa Arab di program studi sastra Arab UAI serta pengembangan kurikulum kedepan.</strong></p><p> </p><p><strong><em>Abstract</em> - Teaching Arabic in Arabic literature courses in the Faculty of Literature, University of Al Azhar Indonesia, started in 2000, the year UAI is established . Twelve years running, however the teaching team still detect a need of improvement in the level of success achieved, both of in teaching materials and language proficiency that are expected. </strong></p><p><strong>This research was conducted to obtain data on the perception of Arabic literature’s students in the Faculty of Literature, UAI regarding the learning process that is being carried out, which is divided into five sections : Their perceptions concerning the goal of Arabic language proficiency, teaching materials, the application of teaching methodology, the course lecturers of Arabic Literature and their view on the evaluation techniques used by the course lecturers in Arabic Literature Studies UAI.</strong></p><strong>The results of this research are expected to be an evaluation process material for Arabic study in Arabic literature courses in UAI, as well as curriculum development in the future.</strong>

Campur kode terjadi dalam tuturan masyarakat keturunan Arab di KampungPekojan Sema-rang.Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui campur kode dan penyebab terjadinya campur kode tuturan masyarakat keturunan Arab di Kampung Pekojan Semarang. Oleh karena itu, pene-litian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif padan intralingual. Campur kode dalam bahasa tutur masyarakat tersebut terjadi di tataran kata. Campur kode berupa pencampuran bahasa Indonesia dengan kata dari bahasa Arab, bahasa Jawa, dan bahasa Betawi. Campur kode bahasa Indonesia, Arab,dan Betawi dilakukan oleh mereka yang menjalin hubungan sosial yang sangat tinggi dengan masyarakat berbeda etnik di lingkungan tempat tinggal. Campur kode dengan meng-gunakan bahasa Jawa sebagai bahasa ibu masyarakat penduduk asli kampung Pekojan hanya dila-kukan oleh yang sudah tua. Demikian pula halnya dengan campur kode dengan bahasa Betawi hanya dilakukan oleh masyarakat keturunan Arab yang sudah tua.Code-mixing occurs in the speech of community of Arab descent in Kampung Pekojan Semarang.This study is conducted to determine the code-mixing and the cause of code-mixing on Arab descent utterances in Pekojan Kampong, Semarang. Therefore, this study uses descriptive method of intralingual equivalent. Code-mixing in Pekojan kampong occurs at the level of words in the form of blending Indonesian words with Arabic, Javanese and Betawi language. The code-mixing between Indonesian, Arabic, and Betawi language is done by those who have high social relationship with different ethnic communities in their environment. Code-mixing using Javanese as native language of indigenous peoples of Pekojan kampong is only performed by the elderly. Similarly, code-mixing with Betawi language is only used by the elderly of Arab descent people.
