Abstract:
Online platforms are defined as (websites that have a technical link on the Web, ‎containing units or lessons for teaching the Arabic language, which consist of a ‎number of educational materials and activities that provide a set of multimedia ‎to achieve specific educational goals). Education is no longer confined to ‎educational institutions and universities. Because of the Internet, the field of ‎education has expanded, especially with the emergence of online learning as ‎one of the means that support the teachin/ learning process, transforming it from ‎the well-known indoctrination phase in traditional education to another, more ‎distinguished and creative phase. It works on developing skills through adopting ‎computers and networks in the transfer of knowledge and skills. The importance ‎of these educational platforms has emerged with the breakout of the Corona ‎pandemic, which have led governments to adopt online learning and educational ‎platforms in the delivery of academic material to students - in line with the ‎decisions of closing schools, universities and public facilities, that swept the ‎world, in order to save people's lives in light of the spread of the virus. Here, ‎the importance of educational platforms emerged, including “Al Jazeera ‎platform for teaching Arabic to native and non-native speakers.” This platform ‎relies on Al Jazeera news network, which it is affiliated with, to provide the ‎platform with written, audio and video news, making it with rich and renewable ‎content. This is, in addition to lessons in teaching Arabic. These lessons are on ‎‎ (syntax, morphology, and spelling) divided into three levels (beginner, ‎intermediate, advanced) and each of them is divided into (lower, intermediate, ‎higher) preceded, in the beginner level, with teaching the pronunciation of ‎Arabic sounds. All of this is accompanied by a number of exercises and ‎comprehension questions, with a list of the most prominent words in the text ‎and their translation, and through the tests on the platform, it is possible to ‎determine the linguistic level of the learner. Abstract:
The dictionary is an essential foundation of language, as it preserves the fundamental structure of the language. However, the Arabic library in general, and the Arab world in particular, have suffered from a clear deficiency in the field of lexicography. Lexicographic studies have taken two approaches: the first focuses on revising the works of previous scholars, while the second examines the principles of modern lexicography and their availability in traditional Arabic dictionaries.
The advent of technology has exacerbated the problem, as it has facilitated the development and accessibility of many technological applications with non-Arabic languages, especially those written from left to right. This has led to the availability of linguistic dictionaries that enrich these languages. Meanwhile, the Arabic language and its lexicographers have lagged behind the goals achieved by their predecessors through their dictionaries. This has created a temporal gap that hinders the progress and adaptation of the Arabic language to advancements and technology, with the language being accused of difficulty and technological deviance.

Abstract:
This scientific intervention aims to raise the issue of the automatic processing of natural languages. Especially at its levels related to ontological studies, enabling the machine to recognize information and invest it accurately, beyond the constraints of semantic ambiguity is considered a scientific challenge. This would not be possible without relying on the contextual detection process of linguistic engineering, which is based on a hybrid approach that combines both statistical and linguistic methods. It is an approach that falls within the context of platform linguistics, or what is termed "fourth-generation linguistics", a natural outgrowth of the digital revolution, based on its horizontal extension in various domains and fields of knowledge, thus establishing a new indicative model in which platforms with linguistic and computer interact. In this context, the associative aspects within the compositional linguistic perceptions are a focal point in operating research operations that fall within the automatic processing of natural language, given the nature of its theoretical and methodological architecture with an empirical inductive basis. It also enables the building of computer platforms by preparing morphological, synthetic, semantic, and pragmatic analyzers. Investing in the advanced technological tools provided by the artificial intelligence system; especially in its aspects related to machine learning, deep learning, and neural network; will enable the provision of a linguistic platform capable of developing paths of teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers.

Abstract:
Mobile learning and its influence on improving learning outcomes are among the recent trends in education. This study investigates the factors impacting teachers’ intentions to use (and their usage of) the ‘I Read Arabic’ (IRA) digital platform for teaching literacy. By utilising the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2) model, seven factors were explored in terms of their predictions of behavioural intention and actual use of the IRA digital platform. A determined sample size of 285 Arabic teachers teaching grades K–6 in Saudi Arabia participated in this study. A mixed-method approach, using a survey questionnaire and semi-structured interviews, was conducted to collect data. Structural equation modelling and thematic analysis were used to analyse the data. The quantitative results indicated that hedonic motivation, habit, effort expectancy, performance expectancy, and price value were significant predictors of teachers’ behavioural intention to use the IRA digital platform for teaching literacy. Teachers’ usage of the IRA digital platform was shown to be significantly influenced by behavioural intention and facilitating conditions. The qualitative results yielded two main themes: the advantages and challenges of using the IRA digital platform. Several useful implications are suggested for teachers, school leaders, and education policy makers to sustain digital learning in Saudi Arabia’s post-pandemic educational system.

The Arabic natural language process (ANLP) community does not have an automatic generator of questions for texts in the Arabic language. Our objective is to provide it one. This paper presents a novel automatic question generation approach that generates questions as a form of support for children learning through the platform QUIZZITO. Our approach combines the semantic role labelling of PropBank (SRL) and the flexibility of question models. It essentially relates to an approach of instantiation model of representation based on an analysis focused on the semantics. This allowed us to capture the maximum sense of sentence given the flexibility of the grammar of the Arabic language. This model was written in a set of Patterns and Templates based on the REGEX languages. Our goal is to enrich Quizzito's online quiz platform, which contains more than 254.5k quizzes, and to provide it with a generator of Arabic language questions for children's texts. Our Arabic Question Generator system (AQG) is functional and reaches up to 86% f-measure.

Russian students learning AFL have limited opportunities to practice oral skills (listening & speaking) outside the classroom, meet native speakers of Arabic and practice oral skills with them. This study aims to propose a model for online collaboration among Russian AFL teachers and students and Arabic-speaking teachers and students in African Arab countries through video-conferencing platforms to help Russian students practice oral skills. First, the host teacher contacts the collaborating teacher. The host and guest teachers select the platform, set the practice schedule together, prepare the material and online resources for oral practice. They try the platform and its different tools, how to share the screen, call on students, breakout rooms…etc, how to upload/share material. The practice material may consist of Arabic language functions, things around the students, daily activities, experiences and students’ environment, describing pictures, talking about cultural topics and so on. Only Standard Arabic should be used. No explanation in L1 (Russian), no translation, no explanation of grammatical rules, no use of Arabic grammatical terms, and no writing of the question and answer on the board. The students should depend on their ears. They use short sentences and concrete objects, nouns, verbs … etc. Vocabulary and sentence structure are taught together. Pictures, gestures, and short videos are used while the students are answering the questions. Some students ask questions, others answer. The same question pattern ما هذا؟ ماذا يفعل is used when the teacher asks about names of objects and actions (verbs). They ask questions to help students discriminate singular, dual, plural, masculine and feminine forms and verb conjugations. Mistakes are corrected instantly. The students repeat the correct form, new word or question several times. Correct answers are reinforced. Positive feedback is given for every answer. Benefits and shortcomings of online international collaboration between students and teachers from different countries are given.

Abstract:
Introduction As many web platforms adopt collaborative content editing models, the gender gap is addressed as one of the chief concerns in using technology to restrict content editing by one gender. Objective This study aims to analyze the Arabic Wikipedia, the largest collaborative content editing platform on the Arabic web, in terms of gender behavior and differences in user activities. Methods This study is the first to address the gender gap in Arabic Wikipedia, characterize users’ gender through their behavior, and then address changes in characteristics over the past five years. This study analyzes parts of Arabic Wikipedia offline by linking article pages and page edit histories to user profiles of known genders. Results This study reported that a gender gap exists in Arabic Wikipedia. The results reported differences over the past five years between both genders in terms of tasks and user behavior. One aspect that indicated similarity is the period of active time over months/years. Differences were observed in the reported number of increasing users, activities, responsibilities, and average actions performed. Conclusion The results reveal a vast gap in terms of gender behavior in Wikipedia activities. Moreover, the results reveal that some administrative activities are disclosed to men more than to women.

Abstract:
During the COVID-19 epidemic, Twitter has become a vital platform for people to express their impressions and feelings towards the COVID-19 epidemic. There is an unavoidable need to examine various patterns on social media platforms in order to reduce public anxiety and misconceptions. Based on this study, various public service messages can be disseminated, and necessary steps can be taken to manage the scourge. There has already been a lot of work conducted in several languages, but little has been conducted on Arabic tweets. The primary goal of this study is to analyze Arabic tweets about COVID-19 and extract people’s impressions of different locations. This analysis will provide some insights into understanding public mood variation on Twitter, which could be useful for governments to identify the effect of COVID-19 over space and make decisions based on that understanding. To achieve that, two strategies are used to analyze people’s impressions from Twitter: machine learning approach and the deep learning approach. To conduct this study, we scraped Arabic tweets up with 12,000 tweets that were manually labeled and classify them as positive, neutral or negative feelings. Specialising in Saudi Arabia, the collected dataset consists of 2174 positive tweets and 2879 negative tweets. First, TF-IDF feature vectors are used for feature representation. Then, several models are implemented to identify people’s impression over time using Twitter Geo-tag information. Finally, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are used to map the spatial distribution of people’s emotions and impressions. Experimental results show that SVC outperforms other methods in terms of performance and accuracy.

Bondarev, Dmitry. "Qur'anic Exegesis in Old Kanembu: Linguistic Precision for Better Interpretation." Journal of Qur'anic Studies 15, no. 3 (2013): 56–83. http://dx.doi.org/10.3366/jqs.2013.0114.

Abstract:
The way the traditional Borno scholars represent Qur'anic Arabic in Old Kanembu testifies to their understanding of Arabic grammatical structures based on traditional grammatical treatises. The function of Old Kanembu is motivated by the grammatical module of tafsīr studies, which includes iʿrāb, ḥarf, naḥw and other related disciplines. However, the Borno ʿulamāʾ do not strictly adhere to Arabic linguistic theory and also exploit the distinctive linguistic properties of the Old Kanembu language. In its elaborated output form, tafsīr in Old Kanembu incorporates four explanatory levels: (a) morphosyntactic; (b) phrase by phrase / lexical; (c) sentential and (d) interpretative. Thus, it is built on two interrelated platforms: metalanguage (i.e. language designed for description of language) and exegesis (i.e. interpretation of the text). This combination makes Old Kanembu a very powerful ‘software’ with a solid foundation in the science of tafsīr, that allows its users to check their own knowledge of the Qur'an with the precision required by the Arabic grammatical sciences. In its basic grammatical format, Old Kanembu is a platform for the exegete who provides tafsīr in full format. Thus, Old Kanembu serves both grammatical and interpretative purposes perfectly.
