Abstract:
Stenography and security are one of the techniques to develop art in securing data. Stenography has the most important aspect is the level of security in data hiding, which makes the third party unable to detect some information that has been secured. Usually used to hide textinformationThe (LSB) algorithm is one of the basic algorithms proposed by Arawak and Giant in 1994 to determine the frequent item set for Boolean association rules. A priory algorithm includes the type of association rules in data mining. The rule that states associations between attributes are often called affinity analysis or market basket analysis. OTP can be widely used in business. With the knowledge of text message, concealment techniques will make it easier for companies to know the number of frequencies of sales data, making it easier for companies to take an appropriate transaction action. The results of this study, hide the text message on the image (image) by using a combination of LSB and Otp methods.

Abstract:
Fishing is a form of predator-prey interaction. As such, the behaviors of fishes can be used to define a restricted range of human behaviors that resulted in their capture. In this report, ecological evidence, fishbone analysis, ethnohistoric reports for the prehistoric Caribbean, experimental fishtrap samples, and ethnographic reports of fishing in other coral waters are brought together in the analysis of prehistoric fishing in the Bahama Archipelago. The analysis is conducted at two levels. First, general fishing strategies are distinguished on the basis of behavioral evidence; and second, specific capture techniques are identified through comparisons with experimental fishtrap samples.

This is a story that will appeal to all scholars involved with the interpretation of rock art. Figures depicted on rock surfaces in jungle terrain patrolled by soldier ants were thought in the nineteenth century to record an otherwise unknown early episode of invasion and resistance – and were widely published as such. A recent survey by a Myanmar-Australian team has made more correct records of the earlier forms and now offers fresh interpretations: the carvings are due to fifteenth-nineteenth century artisans working at quarries producing objects for the town of Mrauk-U, and they evoke local creatures and architectural echoes of the town and temples on which they worked.

Abstract:
The study investigates the special characteristics of the performance of a shamanic song that was recorded in the Alto Perené area, Chanchamayo province, Peru, in 2011. The author shows that the Alto Perené Ashéninka singer manipulates ritual language in various ways to differentiate it from the everyday language of Alto Perené Arawaks. The inventory of the singer’s verbal resources includes allusions to the scheme of predation, prosodic microparallelism, and lexical and morphosyntactic manipulations. The singer uses the technique of voice masking to index the interactive character of the performance. It is shown that many characteristics that are reported in ritual discourses throughout the Amazon are implemented in the performance of the Alto Perené singer.

Abstract This study is an examination of style-shifting in the speech of a single interviewer conducting sociolinguistic interviews in Garifuna (Arawak), an endangered language spoken in Belize and along the eastern coast of Central America. It provides a case study of intraspeaker variation in the context of language shift, exploring how the models and principles of intraspeaker variation hold in the social context of language shift scenarios, and framing language shift scenarios as particular contexts of performativity where cultural identity is highlighted. The focus of the paper is on the agentive use of a single phonetic variable in Garifuna as employed by the individual across speech events, as an example of how a linguistic form may become iconized in the context of language shift.

Abstract:
The present study aimed to characterize the population genetic structure of two macaw species: Ara chloropterus and Ara macao. Samples from various localities in Brazil, one in Bolivia and another in Peru were analyzed. Mitochondrial (control region and cytochrome oxidase I) and nuclear (microsatellites) DNA were analyzed. For A. chloropterus 89 individuals had 2166 bp of mitochondrial DNA sequenced and 95 individuals were genotyped for six polymorphic microsatellite loci. Network and the neighbor-joining tree constructed based on mitochondrial data and FST values obtained with both molecular markers revealed weak genetic structure. This can be due to high gene flow or retained ancestral polymorphism. Thus, A. chloropterus seems to be organized in metapopulations (low genetic structure and high gene flow). Under this scenario, it would be desirable to preserve individuals from various locations and there corridors. For Muscular Dystrophy we obtained 2094 bp of mitochondrial DNA for 68 individuals and data on seven microsatellites for 64 individuals. The haplotype network and the neighbor-joining tree constructed based on mitochondrial data and FST values obtained with both molecular markers revealed no genetic differentiation among localities. The demographic analysis of this species indicated a population expansion 50,000 years ago and a population decline since the last glaciation maximum. These results suggest that this species is organized as a large population that could be considered as a single management unit for conservation purposes if other differences are not found (eg. local ecological adaptations). Both species have high genetic diversity, possibly due to extensive gene flow within each one.

Josep Aragay i Blanchar (1889-1973)" is the first comprehensive work based on this artist and theoretician of the Noucentisme’s movement. The above-mentioned doctoral thesis, studies his career not only as a draughtsman, painter, engraver and potter but also as a poet, lecturer and politician, besides his production as a brilliant polemicist and theoretician of Art. The Thesis stresses an artistic and intellectual work of Aragay who assumed, defended and projected, until the end of his days, those aesthetics ideals of a Mediterranean and Classicistic style that emerged in Catalonia on the early XX century.

Abstract: Studies addressing the nutrition and feeding of wild birds in captivity are rather scarce. Macaws represent a large group of birds that need attention to conservation issues due to trafficking and the great loss of their natural habitat. Due to these factors currently, the number of macaws in zoos and conservation centers is great. The correct feeding of these birds in captivity poses a challenge because they have a high gustatory sensitivity, which causes certain selectivity in feed and wastage of feed. The objective of this study was to evaluate different strategies for supplying a commercial ration associated with the banana for Arara Canindé (Ara ararauna). The experiment was carried out at the Wild Fauna Conservation Center, in Ilha Solteira city, State of São Paulo. Eight Araras Canindé (Ara ararauna) were housed individually in cages adapted for collection of excrement (0.75 x 0.75 x 1.0 m) and leftovers or food waste. The birds were distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments during three periods of five days of harvest, with seven days of adaptation between harvests, totaling six replicates per treatment (24 experimental units). The treatments evaluated four strategies of macaw feeding: commercial ration; association of 70% commercial ration with 30% of banana; 50% commercial ration with 50% banana and ground commercial ration agglomerated with banana (50% ration, 50% banana). The diets that had fruit had a higher total food consumption, but wh... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Abstract:
Definitions and boundaries of race and ethnicity are socially constructed. They are malleable inventions created by the negotiation of ascribed ideas from outside groups and asserted notions from the inside group's membership. The revitalization of Taíno identity and culture within the Puerto Rican and related communities is a classic case example of this negotiation. Although objective conditions exist to recognize the descendants of these Caribbean aboriginals as an identifiable group, their identities are contested and sometimes ridiculed. Even though Taíno heritage is accepted as an essential root of Puerto Rico's cultural and biological make-up, this group has been classified as extinct since the early 16th century. This thesis analyzes the official newsletters of the Taíno Nation of the Antilles--one of the leading organizations working for revitalization. The content of this material culture was dissected and organized into rhetorical categories in order to reveal patterns of endogamic assertions of race and ethnicity. This thesis will provide a descriptive analysis of the Taíno Nation's rhetorical process of convincing the world that they do in fact exist.

Belonging to the Order Psittaciformes, Family Psittacidae, the Ara ararauna, like other parrots, is a Brazilian bird much exploited in the pet market, which makes it a frequent veterinary patient. Despite of the extreme clinical relevance of laboratory examinations, data on hematology and serum biochemistry of this species are scarce. Several factors can interfere with the birds results of hematological and biochemical values, such as age, sex, reproductive period, among others. The study aimed to recognize patterns and to determine haematological and serum biochemical parameters for the species in question, explaining possible variations related to sex, management and method of restraint. In the experiment was used 68 specimens, 33 from a commercial breeding facility and 35 from the live collection of the RIOZOO Foundation. The blood samples were collected by jugular vein, transferred into tubes containing EDTA and other with no anticoagulant. Only the birds of RIOZOO were subjected to a new collection, which occurred 10 minutes after of anesthesia with isoflurane, thus forming a group of 33 animals anesthetized and another 35 unanesthetized. Of each animal were determined trombocyte conts, erythrocyte counts, total and specific leucocyte counts, concentrations of total plasmatic protein, urea, creatinine, uric acid, cholesterol, tryglicer?des, total serum protein, albumin and globulin, and activityes of alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase, amylase, lipase, and creatine-kinase enzymes. The results were analyzed by ANOVA and paired T tests. Females had higher trombocitometria. Non-anesthetized animals had a greater total WBC count. Weren?t significant differences between anesthetized males and females. The birds originated from RIOZOO had higher values of PCV, red blood cell count, MCV, eosinophils, basophils, urea, AST and CK, however, lower values of albumin and creatinine. The study revealed that was a significant level of discrepancies between the different groups, allowing the creation of a standard more specific hematologic, according to the individual characteristics of each patient.
Pertencente ?

The importance of parrots as pets, the growing number of specimens kept as pets and the problems caused by the lack of information about their nutritional needs in captivity, especially the aspects related to long-term health of species have a long life expectancy, has stimulated the scientific community to a depth on this topic. Our objectives were to assess: the effects of adding increasing levels of sugar cane fiber (0, 7, 14 and 21%) on apparent digestibility of nutrients, metabolism coefficient of gross energy, metabolizable energy and dry matter excreta, the processes of extrusion and pelletization to produce food for macaws and the effect of extruded or pelleted diets, with low and high fiber content on food intake, serum biochemical parameters and body weight. We used 24 pairs of blue and yellow macaw. The digestibility trial lasted 24 days and adopted block design with two blocks of 24 experimental units each in a factorial 2 x 4 (two types of processing x four levels of inclusion of fiber). The test on the parameters of serum biochemistry lasted 105 days and was used a randomized design in a split plot scheme, and the plots were a factorial (two processes x two levels of fiber x sex of macaws) and sub-plot, 25 th and 130 th days of consumption of rations. It was concluded that the inclusion of fiber in diets and the metabolizable energy decrease results in linear decrease in digestibility of nutrients, high in dry matter intake and water, and reduction in serum cholesterol. Rations proved to be better than the extruded feeds, less feed wastage and greater reduction in serum glucose and cholesterol. Diets for macaws should be based on metabolizable energy. And the reduction in energy and fat content of diets provides reduction in serum glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides, so excess energy and fat causes metabolic damage to Araras. The energy requirement ... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Abstract:
AbstractIn this chapter, we identify the need for a curriculum that is intended to not only enable educators to teach about climate change, but to also foster leaders who can engage in policy analysis and civic action related to the issue of climate change. Unlike Chap. 10.1007/978-3-030-57927-2_3, which details a whole-school approach, we have specifically focused our attention on developing a curriculum with an associated implementation plan since the ability of teachers to build transferable leadership skills in younger generations are integral to any larger reform initiative. Ultimately, the efficacy of the curriculum is enhanced by a more holistic approach to the prioritization of climate change action in the context of schools and broader education systems, so a synthesis of approaches is recommended. The Climate Change Leadership Curriculum was designed in collaboration with the Arava Institute (AI), an organization in Israel that brings together Israelis, Palestinians, Jordanians and international students from outside the region to engage in environmental and peace-building education. The work of AI is specific to tertiary education, so our initiative to build a climate change leadership curriculum constitutes an attempt to expand the reach of the mission and pedagogy of AI to encompass secondary education. The implementation plan also involves leveraging the network of AI to find partners for implementing the curriculum. The fact that there are AI alumni who work in secondary education opened possibilities for dissemination of the curriculum in collaboration with teachers who have a deep understanding of the pedagogy. As teachers integrate the curriculum into their particular contexts, our plan was to not only support them in the implementation, but to also solicit feedback to continually improve the resources and identify the most effective ways to provide support. This will enable us to make the curriculum accessible to teachers from diverse backgrounds in a wide variety of contexts, inside and outside of the target region.

Abstract:
The colonization of Suriname brought precious little benefit to the original inhabitants of the Surinamese jungle, the Amerindians. Of the original inhabitants there are now only 20,000 left living in Suriname divided among the members of the Trio, Wayana, Akurio, Kalina, and Arawak (Lokono) tribes. The first four groups are regarded as Carib Indians who inhabited northern South America. The 15,000 Kalina make up three quarters of Amerindian people living in Suriname, who live predominately along the coastal area. The Trio and Wayana live in the southern Sipaliwini district, along the border with Brazil and French Guiana. The Arawaks, the only non-Carib Indians, inhabit the central savannas of Suriname. It discusses the music of religious feasts, devotional songs, and laments. The Kalini tribe’s instruments of the sambura drum and krawasie rattle are featured as is the role played by the pyjaiman (shaman).

Abstract:
Chapter 2 places the Rohingyas in the historical, political, and cultural context of Burma/Myanmar. Who they are, where did they come from, and how did they appear in the demographic composition of Burma, now Myanmar; and the human geography of Arakan or what is now called the Rakhine State. It brings in the historical trajectory of Muslim settlements in this region dating back to the eighth century when Arab traders first anchored in the northern Arakan state and settled down there. Among other things, it also critically engages in the debate on whether the emergence of Muslims in Arakan laid down the foundation of Rohingya ethnicity or whether becoming Rohingya was tied to their distinctive social practices, cultural heritage, and continuity of a particular ethnicity. Towards this objective, this chapter explores the historical chronology of different political upheavals that have gradually pushed them to the margin of the state.

Abstract:
Abstract In many languages, terms denoting parts of a human body have special grammatical properties. In Tariana, a North Arawak language from north-west Amazonia (Brazil), external and internal body parts are obligatorily, inalienably, possessed. They are used in double-object constructions, where the body part and its owner are both marked as objects. Terms for internal and external body parts can occur with classifiers in derivational function. Bodily fluids and detachable parts (such as ‘hair’) are treated as optionally possessed and do not participate in double-object constructions; they do not occur with classifiers. Of all the terms for internal body parts, only -kale ‘heart’ can refer to the locus of emotions and feelings, and the essence of a human being (notably in shamanic incantations); in this sense it has a number of special features. Unlike other body-part terms, including ‘heart’ as a physical part of human body, it cannot take classifiers; nor does it occur in double-object constructions. It occurs in double-subject constructions: ‘I am sad’ translates in Tariana as ‘My heart I-shrink’, where both ‘my heart’ and ‘I’ have subject properties. Differences in the grammatical behavior of the term ‘heart’ in its two distinct meanings reflect the ways in which the entity is conceptualized. Grammatical properties of internal and external body parts are then compared with their cognates in the closely related North Arawak languages Baniwa of Içana-Kurripako and Piapoco, within the context of the Arawak language family.

Abstract:
Apurinã (Arawak), spoken along several tributaries of Purus River (Southwest of Amazonas State, Brazil), presents a plural morphological system that marks pronouns and nouns. The language has some free pronominal forms that distinguish singular from plural; additionally, it has bound pronominal forms, with singular/plural distinction made only in the first person for the enclitic forms. In the case of nouns, there are two suffixes that mark plural, -waku (that occurs only with [+human] nouns, as kyky-waku-ry (man-pl-m) ‘men’), and -ny (that can occurs both, with [+human] nouns, as in pupỹka-ry-ny-ry (indigenous person-m-pl-m) ‘indigenous people’; or [-human] nouns, as in aiku-ny-ry (house-pl-m) ‘houses’). The language also presents some quantifiers and numerals that encode number syntactically. The quantifiers are ithu, kaiãu and kuna kamuny to encode the notion of ‘much’, puiãu, referring to ‘some/few/little’, and ykyny to mean ‘all/every’. Additionally, there are the following numerals: (h)ãty(tu) ‘one’ and epi ‘two’, which combine to derive higher numbers, and the word for ‘hand’, waku/ piu, indicating the numeral five. Thus, the plural marking in the language can be marked in different ways, none of which is, however, required by the grammar. With that in mind, we discuss the extent to which plural marking is, to a great extent, constructed by the speakers in daily language use, according to whether it is contextually important to do so, and raise the question of the relevance of this problem to a computationally implementable grammar of the language

Abstract:
This chapter addresses the issue of coexistence of noun categorization devices within one language. Genders and other noun categorization devices—be they numeral classifiers, or other classifiers—are generally thought of as being relatively independent from one another. Co-existing and overlapping systems of genders and classifiers are cross-linguistically uncommon. The chapter shows that this is a feature of some Arawak languages from north-west Amazonia, two genders—feminine and non-feminine—are obligatorily marked on verbs and nouns, and demonstratives and other modifiers within a noun phrase. Classifiers used on number words, and in a variety of other contexts, categorize the noun in terms of its physical properties, and distinguish gender. Gender is thus integrated within the system of classifiers. Gender markers may co-occur with classifiers in one word. The chapter concludes that gender distinctions and gender markers are uniform across the Arawak language family, and can be reconstructed for the proto-language. The chapter proposes that classifiers may have developed separately in each subgroup within the family.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the semantics, morphosyntax, and functions of the gender and classifier systems of Kampa Arawak languages of Peru. All Kampa languages have genders and classifiers. Their origin and diachronic development are different. Gender agreement morphology comes from the pan-Kampa verbal person markers. The sources of multiple classifiers are bound nouns inflected on the pattern of obligatorily possessed nouns, unbound nouns, and bound verb roots; these are considered in the context of compounding and noun incorporation. Gender marking is mandatory and exhaustive, being reflected in the agreement marking on noun modifiers (adjectives, demonstratives, possessor NP), possessive pronouns, demonstrative identifiers, personal pronouns, verbs, and coordinating operators. Multiple classifiers show less exuberant distribution, occurring on nouns, verbs, number words, and adjectives. Classifiers are neither sensitive to gender nor animacy. Classifiers are semantically motivated, showing semantic agreement with controller nouns. The multiple classifier system does not participate in syntactic parsing of constituents via morphological agreement. The main purpose of their use is pragmatic.

The article is devoted to determining the spread of dirofilariasis and the extent of the invasion extent in the Ararat region of the Republic of Armenia. The objects of study were shepherd dogs. It was found that in 100% of cases the causative agent is D. immitis; the average invasion rate of shepherd dogs in the Ararat region was 16.6%. The largest number of dogs with dirofilariasis was between the ages of 3 to 5 years. Thus, in Armenia, a local focus of carnivorous dirofilariasis is actively functioning, in the distribution of which cattle dogs are actively involved.

Abstract:
Health is a reciprocal term that combines mutual co-existence in the environment with a considerable veneration to all forms of life. Life on earth is a result of some favourable conditions in the environment from the empirical point of view. So, the health of the environment remains the supreme, and thereby life, once created, has to keep up the conditions in order to sustain or survive itself. Thus there has always been a fascinating relation between health and environment since the dawn of creation of life on earth. Among the innumerable forms of life on earth human beings are considered the best since they are gifted with immense possibilities to comprehend, create, nourish, admonish, reject and accept. So, they have to shoulder the responsibility largely to secure the health of the environment which, in other terms, is the health of the varieties of life forms on earth. Through the ages they undertook overwhelming initiatives that surely advertise humanity; and literature, especially Eco-critical, has been the best call to humanity in order to restore health which is, as mentioned earlier, very much reciprocal. Literature upholds and worships the heavenly relation between health and environment, humanity and Nature. It celebrates the reconciliation of man and environment in the name of poetry very often.

Abstract:
Abstract E&P activities are the early stage of energy production and pivotal for generating and sustaining economic growth. However, negligence and evaluating the circumstances incorrectly during these operations can lead to calamities like blowouts. This paper discusses two such tragedies, the Pasarlapudi (Krishna-Godavari) Gas Well Blowout of 1995 & Baghjan (Assam-Arakan) Oil Field Blowout of 2020, and provides possible well control measures and lessons learned. Pasarlapudi blowout incident occurred during the drilling operations. The pipe stuck-up situation at 2727m MD (Measured Depth) was detected by conducting a stretch test. Further analysis could include circulating brine, checking lost circulation and identifying casing leaks by measuring Sustained Casing Pressure (SCP), Operator-imposed Pressure (OIP), and Thermal-induced Pressure (TIP). Baghjan's gas well at the depth 3870m was producing at 2.8-3.5 MMSCFD. The aim was to plug the lower producing zone and recomplete the well in the upper Lakadong+Therria sand zone. Well was killed using brine, cement plug was placed and BOP installed. BOP was removed after the plug was set to begin the process of moving the workover rig. Well blew gas profusely during this process. Simulating a blowout and facing one, are two completely different situations. In Pasarlapudi's case, the well blew with an enormous gas pressure of 281.2 ± 0.5 kg/cm2. While drilling the production hole (8.5 inch), either differential pressure sticking, presence of water-swelling clay formation or the partial collapse of wellbore formation caused the pipe stuck-up situation. By conducting stretch test along with circulating brine, root cause of this problem could be identified. If differential sticking occurred, lost circulation could be checked & cured, while keeping the hole full. Circulating brine should solve the problem of swelling clay formation while formation collapse could have occurred due to the presence of plastic formation like salt domes. In the case of Baghjan gas well blowout during workover operations, probable safety measures could include placement of 2 or 3 backup cement plugs along with kill fluid or going for squeeze cementing before placing the cement plug & kill fluid while abandoning the lower producing zone. Attempts were made to bring the well under control by adequate water spraying, installing BOP. Water was pumped through the casing valve and a water reservoir was dug near the well plinth for the placement of pumps of 2500 gallon capacity. Proper safety measures should be used even when they're not the cheapest to avoid repetition of treatments and detrimental situations. SCP, OIP and TIP should be measured periodically whenever possible and the root cause of situations like lost circulation, pipe stuck-ups, kicks, casing leaks should be identified before proceeding towards drastic remedial operations. Innovations in countering well-control situations should be promoted invariably.

Abstract A geophysical study to understand and Identify Pliocene - Pleistocene channels system and improve better understand of the channel geometry, fill lithology and connectivity and Generate rock property volume, Enhance reservoir quality, Hydrocarbon distribution and sweet spot detection with min. risk in Miocene reservoir (Moki formation). The Taranaki Basin is the only New Zealand basin to produce commercial quantities of hydrocarbons and still being underexplored. The Parihaka field is on the north-western Taranaki Peninsula located along the west coast of New Zealand's North Island (Veritas, 2005) which there only dry hole drilled based on 2D lines (Arawa-1). Moki formation is our main reservoir its depositional environment is turbiditic fan complex. Hydrocarbons are yet to be commercially produced from the Moki Formation on onshore Taranaki, (Smale et al., 1999). There was AVO study called "Investigation of the Miocene Moki Formation Within the Parahaki 3D Survey; Taranaki Basin, Offshore New Zealand Using Some Geophysical Tools" in Moki reservoir to Investigate and assess the AVO response of the Moki sand formation. By using the results of The AVO study, the inversion can apply in the area to enhance the result, generate rock property volume, Enhance reservoir quality, Hydrocarbon distribution and sweet spot detection with min. risk. By running three volumes of post stack inversion (vp, vs, density) and use λ, μ and vp/vs to identify the hydrocarbon contact distribution. Then by using AVO Inversion (Another different fast technic in the relative domain) to prove the results and using Extend Elastic Impedance Method. The result of this study is there are three prospects in Moki formation, the maps show that Arawa -1 at very low probability of hydrocarbon content which provide our result as it is a dry hole. By using multi-Attribute analysis, we can find new channels system in Pliocene age. Depending on the complexity of the channel system, different attribute analyses had varying success with each system. By using 3D curvature, variance and RMS Amplitude we can improve understanding of the Pliocene channel elements in terms of structure, channel evolution, and lithology. Based on the previous results for these channel systems, RMS amplitude and sweetness attributes can use to detect lithological changes that highlight both shale and sand dominant regions of the channel. These results suggest that the lithology of the small channel is refer to the delta lithology in this individuals channel area, and we can interpret the small channel is filled with a sand lithology, which allows the RMS and sweetness to detect in against the mud rich background lithology.

Abstract:
Major threats to agricultural sustainability in the 21st century are drought, increasing temperatures, soil salinity and soilborne pathogens, all of which are being exacerbated by climate change and pesticide abolition and are burning issues related to agriculture in the Middle East. We have found that Class 2 fungal endophytes adapt native plants to environmental stresses (drought, heat and salt) in a habitat-specific manner, and that these endophytes can confer stress tolerance to genetically distant monocot and eudicot hosts. In the past, we generated a uv non-pathogenic endophytic mutant of Colletotrichum magna (path-1) that colonized cucurbits, induced drought tolerance and enhanced growth, and protected 85% - 100% against disease caused by certain pathogenic fungi. We propose: 1) utilizing path-1 and additional endophtyic microorganisms to be isolated from stress-tolerant local, wild cucurbit watermelon, Citrulluscolocynthis, growing in the Dead Sea and Arava desert areas, 2) generate abiotic and biotic tolerant melon crop plants, colonized by the isolated endophytes, to increase crop yields under extreme environmental conditions such as salinity, heat and drought stress, 3) manage soilborne fungal pathogens affecting curubit crop species growing in the desert areas. This is a unique and novel "systems" approach that has the potential to utilize natural plant adaptation for agricultural development. We envisage that endophyte-colonized melons will eventually be used to overcome damages caused by soilborne diseases and also for cultivation of this crop, under stress conditions, utilizing treated waste water, thus dealing with the limited resource of fresh water.

Abstract:
We chose to focus our investigations on the effect of the active forms, TTF and AcA, rather than the whole (crude) extract. 1. To establish cultivation program designed to develop lead cultivar/s (which will be selected from the different Af accessions) with the highest yield of the active compounds TTF and/or achillolide A (AcA). These cultivar/s will be the source for the purification of large amounts of the active compounds when needed in the future for functional foods/drug development. This task was completed. 2. To determine the effect of the Af extract, TTF and AcA on neuronal vulnerability to oxidative stress in cultured neurons expressing FAD-linked mutants.Compounds were tested in N2a neuroblastoma cell line. In addition, we have tested the effects of TTF and AcA on signaling events promoted by H₂O₂ in astrocytes and by β-amyloid in neuronal N2a cells. 3. To determine the effect of the Af extract, TTF and AcA on neuropathology (amyloidosis and tau phosphorylation) in cultured neurons expressing FAD-linked mutants. 4. To determine the effect of A¦ extract, AcA and TTF on FAD-linked neuropathology (amyloidosis, tau phosphorylation and inflammation) in transgenic mice. 5. To examine whether A¦ extract, TTF and AcA can reverse behavioral deficits in APPswe/PS1DE9 mice, and affect learning and memory and cognitive performance in these FAD-linked transgenic mice. Background to the topic.Neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, glutamate toxicity and amyloid beta (Ab) toxicity are involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's diseases. We have previously purified from Achilleafragrantissimatwo active compounds: a protective flavonoid named 3,5,4’-trihydroxy-6,7,3’-trimethoxyflavone (TTF, Fl-72/2) and an anti-inflammatory sesquiterpenelactone named achillolide A (AcA). Major conclusions, solutions, achievements. In this study we could show that TTF and AcA protected cultured astrocytes from H₂O₂ –induced cell death via interference with cell signaling events. TTF inhibited SAPK/JNK, ERK1/2, MEK1 and CREBphosphorylation, while AcA inhibited only ERK1/2 and MEK1 phosphorylation. In addition to its protective activities, TTF had also anti-inflammatory activities, and inhibited the LPS-elicited secretion of the proinflammatorycytokinesInterleukin 6 (IL-6) and IL-1b from cultured microglial cells. Moreover, TTF and AcA protected neuronal cells from glutamate and Abcytotoxicity by reducing the glutamate and amyloid beta induced levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and via interference with cell signaling events induced by Ab. These compounds also reduced amyloid precursor protein net processing in vitro and in vivo in a mouse model for Alzheimer’s disease and improvedperformance in the novel object recognition learning and memory task. Conclusion: TTF and AcA are potential candidates to be developed as drugs or food additives to prevent, postpone or ameliorate Alzheimer’s disease. Implications, both scientific and agricultural. The synthesis ofAcA and TTF is very complicated. Thus, the plant itself will be the source for the isolation of these compounds or their precursors for synthesis. Therefore, Achilleafragrantissima could be developed into a new crop with industrial potential for the Arava-Negev area in Israel, and will generate more working places in this region.

Abstract:
The main objectives were (1) to develop, implement and validate control procedures that would make it possible to maintain year-round air temperature and humidity at levels suitable for crop cultivation in greenhouses operating in arid and semi-arid regions and (2) to investigate the influence of the operational flexibility of the fogging system on the performance of the system. With respect to the development of climate controllers, we developed a new control approach according to which ventilation is used to maintain the enthalpy of the greenhouse air and fogging is used to adjust the humidity ratio inside the greenhouse. This approach is suitable mostly for greenhouses equipped with mechanized ventilation, and in which the air exchange rate can be controlled with enough confidence. The development and initial validation of the controllers were performed in a small experimental greenhouses located at the Agricultural Research Organization and very good tracking were obtained for both air temperature and relative humidity (maximum mean deviations over a 10-min period with constant setpoints lower than 2.5oC and 5% relative humidity). The robust design approach used to develop the controllers made it possible to transfer successfully these controllers to a much larger semi-commercial greenhouse located in the much drier Arava region. After only minimal adjustments, which did not require lengthy dedicated experiments, satisfactory tracking of the temperature and humidity was achieved, with standard deviation of the tracking error lower than 1oC and 5% for temperature and relative humidity, respectively. These results should help promote the acceptance of modern techniques for designing greenhouse climate controllers, especially since given the large variety of greenhouse structures (shape, size, crop system), developing high performance site-specific controllers for each greenhouse is not feasible. In parallel to this work, a new cooling control strategy, which considers the contribution of humidification and cooling from the crop, was developed for greenhouses equipped with natural ventilation. Prior to the development of the cooling strategy itself, three evapotranspiration models were compared in terms of accuracy and reliability. The cooling strategy that has been developed controls the amount of fog introduced into the greenhouse as well as the percentage of vent openings based on the desired vapor pressure deficit (VPD) and enthalpy, respectively. Numerical simulations were used to compare the performance of the new strategy with a constant fogging rate strategy based on VPD, and on average, the new strategy saved 36% water and consumed 30% less electric energy. In addition, smaller air temperature and relative humidity fluctuations were achieved when using the new strategy. Finally, it was demonstrated that dynamically varying the fog rate and properly selecting the number of nozzles, yields additional water and electricity savings.

Abstract:
The overall objective of this research was to elucidate the horticultural, pathological, physiological and molecular factors impacting melon varieties (scion) grafted onto M. cannonballus resistant melon and squash rootstocks. Specific objectives were- to compare the performance of resistant melon germplasm (grafted and non-grafted) when exposed to M. cannoballus in the Lower Rio Grande valley and the Wintergarden, Texas, and in the Arava valley, Israel; to address inter-species relationships between a Monosporascus resistant melon rootstock and susceptible melon scions in terms of fruit-set, fruit quality and yield; to study the factors which determine the compatibility between the rootstock and the scion in melon; to compare the responses of graft unions of differing compatibilities under disease stress, high temperatures, deficit irrigation, and salinity stress; and to investigate the effect of rootstock on stress related gene expression in the scion. Some revisions were- to include watermelon in the Texas investigations since it is much more economically important to the state, and also to evaluate additional vine decline pathogens Didymella bryoniae and Macrophomina phaseolina. Current strategies for managing vine decline rely heavily on soil fumigation with methyl bromide, but restrictions on its use have increased the need for alternative management strategies. Grafting of commercial melon varieties onto resistant rootstocks with vigorous root systems is an alternative to methyl bromide for Monosporascus root rot/vine decline (MRR/VD) management in melon production. Extensive selection and breeding has already produced potential melon rootstock lines with vigorous root systems and disease resistance. Melons can also be grafted onto Cucurbita spp., providing nonspecific but efficient protection from a wide range of soil-borne diseases and against some abiotic stresses, but compatibility between the scion and the rootstock can be problematic. During the first year experiments to evaluate resistance to the vine decline pathogens Monosporascus cannonballus, Didymella bryoniae, and Macrophomina phaseolina in melon and squash rootstocks proved the efficacy of these grafted plants in improving yield and quality. Sugars and fruit size were better in grafted versus non-grafted plants in both Texas and Israel. Two melons (1207 and 124104) and one pumpkin, Tetsukabuto, were identified as the best candidate rootstocks in Texas field trials, while in Israel, the pumpkin rootstock RS59 performed best. Additionally, three hybrid melon rootstocks demonstrated excellent resistance to both M. cannonballus and D. bryoniae in inoculated tests, suggesting that further screening for fruit quality and yield should be conducted. Experiments with ABA in Uvalde demonstrated a significant increase in drought stress tolerance and concurrent reduction in transplant shock due to reduced transpiration for ‘Caravelle’ plants. In Israel, auxin was implicated in reducing root development and contributing to increased hydrogen peroxide, which may explain incompatibility reactions with some squash rootstocks. However, trellised plants responded favorably to auxin (NAA) application at the time of fruit development. Gene expression analyses in Israel identified several cDNAs which may code for phloem related proteins, cyclins or other factors which impact the graft compatibility. Manipulation of these genes by transformation or traditional breeding may lead to improved rootstock cultivars. Commercial applications of the new melon rootstocks as well as the ABA and TIBA growth regulators have potential to improve the success of grafted melons in both Israel and Texas. The disease resistance, fruit quality and yield data generated by the field trials will help producers in both locations to decide what rootstock/scion combinations will be best.
