Full textIt is known that measuring affects the behavior of an individual or a group and therefore it is important to be careful when deciding on what to measure and to know why it’s being measured when working process oriented. The purpose of the study is to identify what changes are needed regarding measurements and the choice of what’s being measured in a situation where a function oriented organization within manufacturing will make a transition to a more process oriented way of working. Recommendations to the case study company have also been constructed based on this to adapt the measurements in line with the new way of working. The study is based on a case study conducted at Setra Group which currently is in this transition. A literature review was conducted to gather theory regarding previous research in this field to create a theoretical framework to proceed from before collecting data. To gather data from the company in the case study seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with different executives within Setras production management, marketing department and managing directors at different production units. After the data collection the theoretical framework was completed with additional relevant theory relating subjects that were discussed during the interviews. This research approach can be described as an abductive research method. The gathered theory and data has then been compared and analyzed to lead to a conclusion. Case-specific recommendations to the business case has also been presented to Setra Group. The study has shown that it is important for a process-oriented organization to measure aspects that is in line with the customer-orientation that characterizes a process-oriented way of working. There is however no key answer to how many measurements, which or how much focus an organization should have on these measurements since it differs from one organization to another. Although there is, however, a need for a balance on what is being measured so they together cover the different perspectives and focus areas while at the same time the main measurements are clearly defined. Which measurements that is suitable to use at an organization depends on a number of aspects such as culture within the organization, type of product and what industry the organization is operative in. An organization should decide this themselves by creating a map over their main process to get a good picture over their success factors. It has also shown to be important that an organization is self-critical towards the measuring they are conducting, to avoid that the measurements are treated in a way that they are limiting the main process ability to deliver products to the customer.

Full textThe report has examined how silent and explicit knowledge can interact, in order to create efficient knowledge transfer between employees. The case company that has been investi-gated has for a long time been aware that the working method in a selected process at the company does not work efficiently. During the study, it has emerged, among other things, that it takes a long time to apply the process to different projects and that employees deliver results that do not meet the same quality. A qualitative study has been carried out on the case company through employee interviews, in order to find out the experience of a unit's working method, process documentation and communication in a process. It has been important to examine an employee perspective, as this is lacking in previous research. Previous scientific studies highlight, among other things, studies on how processes and working methods should work for entire organizations, as well as how this affects managers and superiors, but does not really stipulate anything about the employee's perspective in knowledge processes. The study's results show that employees feel dissatisfied with the way in which the process works, as the employees' own approaches are used to create temporary solutions to problems that arise in the process. It has also been found that instructions added to the process are not used for this purpose as they are intended. They are unclear and contain too much text. Another major problem that has been identified is the informal communication in the pro-cess. Shortcomings in information transfer between managers and co-workers have resulted in misunderstandings. Employees are currently not involved in development work and also feel that they lose commitment and motivation to work effectively in the process. The report contains suggestions for measures to create effective communication transfer within selected unit and process and hence become a more learning organization. The suc-cess of the study has been to show that a standardized Lean-based working method in which employees work similarly increases motivation and consensus. This leads to a more con-sistent quality in the process and enables a work with continuous improvements.

Full textThe development of BIM has in recent years gained momentum and many countries, including Sweden, have begun a process towards common structure in the sector of construction by standardizing information and processes (Nilsson, 2013). This development provides new opportunities for participants in the process of construction but also problems when the intensive IT- development meets a seemingly conservative industry (Statskontoret, 2009:6). The aim of this thesis is to design a modernized working process for the structural engineer that integrates BIM tools in the design process. An understanding of how the constructional engineer's work looks today is determined, and the possibilities and difficulties that the designer is experiencing. The findings in this study were that, despite the intensive development of BIM in recent years traditional processes are still applied, since an understanding of a higher initial effort does not yet exist. Increased demands are also put on the structural engineer's technical competence in structural engineering since it´s harder to "cheat" in the object-based models. The qualitative study demonstrated a conservative approach where the development of the structural engineer's role by means such as finished components from different vendors in Tekla Structures was seen as more problematic than beneficial. It also emerged that the most effort should be in the coordination of the project, in which more than clash detector tests should be taken into consideration and that the review should take place at an earlier stage and performed more consistently. In the practical use of Tekla Structures several opportunities to review and coordinate a project was found. The need for standardized BIM as concretized in the theory section was also confirmed by the respondents in terms of the desire for a common structure in the models. The work resulted in a working model for how the structural engineer should work with BIM and the conditions requested to allow this approach. An important part of this is to define a well-structured and clear way of working that is achieved through clear goals. Central to each BIM project is to appoint a BIM Coordinator whose task is following up the work towards the defined goals and ensuring united design among the workers. BIM requires a comprehensive understanding of the design to meet the new requirements.

Full textThe aim of this study was to identify the advertising agencies considered characteristics of guerrilla campaigns and agencies' working process on guerrilla campaigns, with the particular focus on the visual guerrilla campaigns, using semi-structured interviews.Five semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted. Respondents were selected strategically. The results showed distinct characteristics of guerrilla campaigns. Based on these, the following definition were conducted: a guerrilla campaign is characterised by the lack of bought media exposure, a creative, often situational and environmentally adapted design, that without assistance from other sales promotions produce high interest or attention relative to the utilized budget, in order to create a deeper relationship with the recipient. The working methods of a visual guerrilla campaign and a regular guerrilla campaign do not differ remarkably from a traditional campaign. The study also showed that the spread of a guerrilla campaign was important for its effectiveness.

Full textBusiness travel and trade fairs have been around for ages, the first World Expo was conducted already in 1851. The MICE-industry (Meetings, Incentive, conference and exhibition) increasingly extends across the world. This has resulted in the development of an increasing number of facilities and other resources. Recently, a concern has arisen about the expansion potentially oversaturating the market. What resources are required for a destination to be interesting for MICE-events? This study attempts out to investigate this through interviews with event businesses in the MICE-industry in order to take the empirical material towards previously researched information regarding this. The study carried out six qualitative semi-structured interviews with event businesses based in Sweden. Informants from the six companies were interviewed about the companies approach to organizing a MICE-event, and what resources they see as important on a destination suitable for MICE. The results showed that most of the resources for themselves where not of great importance, since different types of events require different types of resources. There were some resources the informants gave greater importance than others, such as transportation, partnership and creativity. A conclusion was reached that the destinations who will be the most successful in the future MICE-industry are the ones that in a creative way get their unique qualities out to the market.

Full textThis thesis aims to identify quality problems within the studied organization, whereupon quality-technical approaches are applied in order to produce solution proposals. The report includes the theories SWOT, Social Media Landscape, Cornerstone Model, Process Modeling, Process Maturity, TQM, PDSA Cycle, Statistical Process Control, Ishikawa Diagram and previous research that is considered adequate. The work is a case study where qualitative and quantitative data, predominantly of the primary form, created the basis for the report's content. Results indicate that there is a lack of necessary routines and resource efficiency within the studied organization to enable continued progression. The company's resources are used inefficiently, which is considered to inhibit the company's development opportunities. The fact that there are quality problems within the organization has resulted in an unwanted amount of unfulfilled bookings, a phenomenon called timeouts. The phenomenon has subsequently led to a loss of potential income. Presented results further demonstrate that within the studied organization there are good conditions for growth. Conclusions that can be drawn show that the studied organization, in agreement with previous research, faces the challenge of creating a balance between an agile working method and process maturity. The lack of documentation and routines as well as inefficient resource utilization represent major threats to growth, after which three solutions have been presented. The report presents the following three solution proposals: improvement of process maturity, acquisition of stylists and activation of existing stylists and acquisition of extra staff. For each individual solution, an individually designed action plan and a preliminary design timetable have been established.

Full textThis study examines the possible change that will take place when 3D-simulation will take a major place in a textile product development process. This by answering whether there is a market for a changed way of working. Investigate the advantages and disadvantages of an implemented 3D approach. And explore how the industry's professional roles will be affected by it. COVID-19 has shown how vulnerable a product development process on the other side of the world becomes in a global crisis and because of that the interest of 3D has increased. The study is conducted with an abductive method of qualitative research methods in the form of a focus group and an interview. The report's results show that the market is open for a new way of working in the form of implement 3D. The prevailing pandemic has led to a more open sight for implementing 3D. The demand and interest in 3D-competence has also been seen in the course of CLO3D software that from the first semester start with overfull classes. Implemented 3D is seen as the new way to achieve a more efficient and flexible work process.

Thesis, Linköping University, Department of Computer and Information Science, 2006. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-7162.
Developing IT-systems which solve the intended problem is a necessity for systems development. Although this can be seen as obvious and that research is performed within the subject, organisations are not able to handle these problems (Standish Group 1994; Standish Group 2003). Other problems that can occur in a systems development project is bad communication within the project group, ambiguous goals, weak foundation to stand on and that an overall picture of the project is missing (Goldkuhl & Röstlinger 1988). We have developed a possible solution to manage these needs, which should be able to offer an alternative work procedure so that the possibilities of problems occurring will decrease. We will present a work procedure that is based on the Dialogue seminar method, a method for knowledge- and experience extraction, which has the main purposes to:
• Establish a common language
• Create a work practice
• Develop reflective and analogical thinking
• Build knowledge
• Develop experience based knowledge
In our presented work procedure the Dialogue seminar is used in the beginning and at the end of the systems development project and as an element before and in between different systems development phases where the use of it is best suited. By working this way we are hoping that the work procedure will generate better communication within the project group and that a common under-standing for the project will be created. During the project a continuous reflection and refining will contribute to avoid problems and for example build a foundation prior to future system developing phases. We also want to create knowledge and experience about how projects are carried out, which will be used in future system development projects.
When the work procedure requires that there is a longer investment perspective, a commitment from the organisation is needed. If the organisation receives the information needed for establishing this work procedure, we believe that this can be a natural way of working.

Full textBackground: Meeting patients in a digital format increases with the vision of increased e-health. It can be useful to reach more patients and work complementary to traditional physiotherapy. There is little information on digital patient meetings with a focus on being able to support behavioral changes. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate how physiotherapists describe their possibilities and limitations to support behavioral changes in digital patient meetings.Method: The study was conducted as a qualitative interview study with an inductive approach. Six physiotherapists participated in this study and data from the interviews were analyzed with a qualitative content analysis. Result: The interviews resulted in five categories with twelve subcategories. These categories were: the need to bridge the physical distance, digital physiotherapy fits for shorter, simpler contacts, more clarity is required in digital meetings to engage the patient, the lack of physical contact during digital physiotherapy prevents and routines for follow-up. Conclusions: The participants described the digital patient meetings as positive for simple and quick patient contacts. However, they meant that it could not replace the traditional physiotherapy since the lack of physical contact and the lack of follow-up limits their ability to support behavioral changes. This study provides support for continued research on the organizational implementation of supporting working methods for behavioral change in a digital environment.

Full textThis study is based on an organizational change within the Länsförsäkringar group. Länsförsäkringar consists of 23 local and independent insurance companies operating under the same brand. By introducing a joint work method for settlement of building damages which is related to the support system Meps 2.0 to all insurance companies inside the group, it was intended to increase customer satisfaction. The overall aim of the study is to investigate what can be learned and understood from the users' perspectives, in this case the claims adjusters, about opportunities and obstacles for learning new ways of working in connection with the implementation of a new IT system. Understanding the ways in which staff experiences can be used to develop a common way of working in an organization is a further purpose of the study. In this study, a survey is conducted which forms the basis for case studies on two selected companies inside Länsförsäkringar group. Case studies consist of individual interviews with a group manager and three employees at each company as well as observations of the informants. Empirical data is processed and analyzed regarding literature and through thematic analysis as a method. The results show that structures together with relational and social aspects play an important role in implementing successful change in an organization. The importance of people's active involvement in a change is emphasized and it is found necessary that the people involved understand what a certain change means and why it is needed. Furthermore, the results achieved show that Communities of Practice can be used in an organization to benefit from the strengths of the community in different areas and to develop new cultural resources like new ways of working in an organization.

Full textThe relationship between contractor and developer in the construction industry often has a lack of trust, which is unfavorable for both the projects and the staff involved. A lot of time is spent on dealing with disputes and there is an assumption that the parties are looking to con each other to their own gain. This leads to a negative outcome for both the contractor and the developer, as this contributes to the projects often becoming more expensive and more time consuming than necessary. Unfortunately, the industry has been like this for a long time, but there are better ways to work. NCC's business areas NCC Building Sweden and NCC Property Development are working together in projects with partnering agreement and during these projects they have managed to build a relationship that creates a more pleasant work environment and well-executed projects. They work with financial incentives, which means that the time spent managing who are liable for payment in the event of changes or similar is minimized. Although this close and well-developed relationship has many positive effects, there are also shortcomings in these projects. There is a certain lack of clarity between the parties and the roles that contribute to certain issues and areas of responsibility lacking owners. There is also a lot of information about working methods and decisions that end up at the individual level due to the fact that documentation is omitted. This makes it difficult for new staff to enter the projects and one loses out on experiences from previous projects. The report looks in to how the projects with partnering agreement differ from NCC's documented ways of working. The purpose is to find ways to optimize the cooperation between NCC Building Sweden and NCC Property Development and, by extension, find ways to create more clarity and better ways to manage new staff in the projects. With the help of careful examination of the documented process and interviews, comparisons between the working methods can be made to form results. The result is then used to find advantages and disadvantages of projects with partnering agreements and to find ways to optimize the cooperation in these projects. Interviews show that the projects with partnering agreement are advantageous in many ways, but clear lists of boundaries of responsibility between the contractor and the developer and between the different roles of the parties would be needed. In order to improve the conditions for future projects and to facilitate the introduction of new staff, better documentation of working methods and experiences is needed.

Full textIt has been found in the traces of the Swedish #metoo movement that there is a great ignorance among employers about the rules that apply when dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace. In an attempt to make a change for the better, Region Gotland’s management of abusive discrimination has been studied. The study aims to study the organizations current management of abusive discrimination, in order to propose a developed management process. The study is based on two issues that are intended to show how the current management works, which are; how the management of abusive discrimination currently works? and what deficiencies exist in the current management of abusive discrimination in the workplace? In order to be able to propose a developed management process, the study intends to answer the question; How can the process for dealing with abusive discrimination be developed? The theoretical starting point for the study is process theory which has been used to understand the current management. For the identification of deficiencies in the management of abusive discrimination, AFS 2015:4 and AFS 2001:1 have been the basis. In addition, Mårtensson and Malm’s investigation method for abusive discrimination in the workplace has been used in order to be able to develop Region Gotland's management. The data has been collected through qualitative methods in the form of a survey, an interview and the provided internal documentation. The result shows that there are many different procedures in the current management of abusive discrimination. This shows that there is a lack of consensus on how the managers should proceed when dealing with abusive discrimination. In addition, it has been found that the managers have insufficient knowledge of the guideline against abusive discrimination and how to proceed when dealing with abusive discrimination. With regard to the development of Region Gotland's management of abusive discrimination, it is concluded that the management can be developed using the comparison that has been made between Mårtensson and Malm’s investigation method and Region Gotland's intended management of abusive discrimination. The management can be developed through adding steps and adjusting current steps in the intended management process of abusive discrimination.
Norlund, Gustaf, and Simon Martinussen. Thesis, Högskolan i Gävle, Industriell ekonomi, 2019. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:hig:diva-30404.

Full textWithin the already competitive market that is streaming and on demand TV, new services and players emerge on a regular basis. This puts a lot of pressure on existing companies behind the streaming services to be innovative and keep consumers interested in their product. There are many factors that affect innovation, one of these is the organizational structure of the product development team. The purpose of this study is to examine how organizational structure in product development teams affects innovation, in which ways organizational structure can foster and overturn innovation and how existing companies, within the industry of streaming film and TV, organizes their product development teams to enable innovation. The study was conducted at two Swedish companies within the streaming industry. Their organizational structure, and how it affects their innovative capabilities, will be compared along with experienced pros and cons of the employees surrounding the organizational structure related to innovation will also be examined. The study began with a comprehensive literature review, this was done to obtain the knowledge needed to dive deeper within the subject of organizational structure and innovation and at the same time act as a building block for the rest of the study. Furthermore, a semi structured qualitative interview was conducted that involved three respondents from two different companies within the Swedish streaming business of TV and film. The qualitative interview examined how the companies are structured, both at company level and at team level, how their product development process works and how the respondents think this affects their ability to be innovative. The result of these interviews was then examined to find common themes which connects organizational structure and its impact on innovation. The study showed that both interviewed companies had a similar organizational structure at firm level, and that this kind of structure seems to be frequent within the industry. However, no direct evidence was found to support that this style of structure would benefit their innovative capabilities. It also showed that the companies had similar organizational structures at team level, but where one company utilizes fixed teams that are cross-functional (when people of different functional expertise work together), while the other company proposes a more consultancy-heavy setup. The study showed that a flexible yet comprehensible process and structure at team level, where employees feel free and can participate and influence, contribute to making them feel more innovative. This, with support of existing research, suggests that these factors can lead to a higher degree of innovation. Furthermore, the study suggests that the use of agile working methods seems to be an important factor for companies within this industry that seek to improve their innovative capabilities.

Full textAbstract Occupational injuries are a problem in healthcare in Sweden. Both occupational accidents and most of all occupational diseases caused by great physical workloads constitute a large proportion of work related musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) of healthcare professionals. The aim of the study was to explore and describe the work process in the design teams of the building design process. The main focus was the building design process of health care buildings and the design teams where ergonomists and safety engineers are asked to participate. The purpose was to create a knowledge base consisting of this study and an appendix with methods and relevant literature. Eight people with different professions were interview. All of them had a good hold on the building design processes and on hospital architecture issues. Among them there were two ergonomists and two safety engineers. The result indicates that ergonomists and safety engineers were those who possessed the knowledge of working environment factors such as ergonomics in the building design processes. The methodology was to follow the agreed plan for the building design process established by the project Manager. Moreover the role of the ergonomists and safety engineers in the design team was to coach and supervise particularly the healthcare professionals. The main approach was to create a good dialogue and conversation and to keep a solution-oriented approach in the design team. Furthermore the most important method was to visualize drawings of Architects which made it possible for the healthcare workers to be able to audit the drawings correctly. This procedure gave the healthcare professionals a decision-making support which helped them to make well-reasoned decisions about their future work environment. The conclusion indicates that ergonomists and safety engineers are important because of their unique knowledge of working environment, especially ergonomics. Ergonomists and safety engineers need to be involved in the early phases of the building design process in order to be able to influence the design of new workspaces. The participation of these two professions in the design team may also benefit the healthcare workers with a future work environment which is largely designed according to their requirements and needs and will probably help to prevent MSDs. In the future there is a need for a specific education just for the ergonomists and the safety engineers participating in the building design process of healthcare buildings. There are great opportunities for them to develop their role towards a more prominent one in the building design process. Full textThe purpose of the study is to provide suggestions on how business area Bostad on Riksbyggen can improve their estate handover to facility management. The purpose includes the questions: (1) How can Bostad improve their handover of estates to facility management? (2) How can Riksbyggen ensure that the delivery of estates maintains a consistent quality throughout the country? (3) How can improvements be implemented in the process? The improvements area consists of the fact that there are few cooperative processes, that the interaction between the two does not work optimally and that the handover has proven to work differently on different locations within Riksbyggen, which is not good for the company that strives towards common practices and procedures. The theory that the work depends on is the delivery and implementation of projects, meetings, motivation, contracts, information, quality development and previous research on project handovers. The methods used to collect material and make improvements are benchmarking, documentary research, interviews, categorization, relationship diagrams and matrix diagrams. The result describes how the co-workers work on the assignment linked to the process chain, some quality activities from management systems linked to handover, description of a collaborative agreement and NKI results. The conclusions of the analysis that answer the questions are as follows: (1) Housing can improve the transfer by initiating and planning, informing about the results, transferring skills, raising the quality of the results, submitting results and responsibilities as well as entering into contracts what Riksbyggen expects from contractor regarding warranty management. (2) Riksbyggen can ensure a smooth delivery throughout all regions by having the same common routines and by creating the conditions for good cooperation. (3) Improvements can be implemented through the improvement-cycle Plan-Do-Study-Act. Based on conclusions and analysis, six improvement proposals were presented.

Full textSemi-structured, in-depth interviews with eight Swedish graphic designers and employees at publishing houses were carried out with the purpose of mapping the strategic and creative work process of producing Coffee table books and Luxury works (Swedish praktverk), as well as respondents attitudes towards these processes. The three main steps identified in the process are presented and compared to results in previous studies. The production of these books was found to be complex due to the number of people involved, the time required, the costs involved and the relatively small profit margins. All of which increase the exposure to certain risks. The re-spondents however found the work to be exciting, enjoyable and fulfilling. In addition to this the study discovered the inconsistency between the definition of “Coffee table book” and “Luxury work” and what was found to be the com-monly accepted understanding of these. This applied particularly to the term “Coffee table book,” where some respondents associated the term to a lower standard of literature. The terms and definitions of these books will be dis-cussed as well as the market condition described by the respondents.

I studien används fallstudier.

Full textTraditionally, the public procurement process has originated in the waterfall project model, with distinct phases and gates. To gain more flexibility and efficiency, the IT industry have adapted agile project methods instead. A challenge that has arisen due to this change is that the traditional procurement process rarely is adapted to agile project methods. Furthermore, the public sector is a large buyer of IT, but a significant part of all public projects within IT are failing in terms of exceeded budget. One reason for this could be that the traditional procurement process has difficulties in meeting the conditions required for agile methods, since it prevents the efficiency and goal achievement of IT procurement. In this study, the possibilities and challenges of an agile procurement process for IT was researched. The study also included how the procurement process could be structured and applied, with the aim to increase the efficiency, the customer value and the harmonization between procurement of IT and the implementation. The research questions were answered by a qualitative study where primary data was collected through interviews. A total of 23 deep interviews were conducted with different participants in a procurement process such as purchasers, suppliers and clients. The largest amount of data was collected at Luleå kommun, but interviews were also conducted with external respondents with knowledge of agile methods in the public sector. The interviews were analyzed through a thematic analysis, which resulted in several opportunities and challenges concerning agile procurement, together with a framework for agile procurement of IT. The study shows that there are both opportunities and challenges in an agile procurement process of IT. Public organizations that for example is permeated of the agile ground values, with motivated individuals with a likeness of change and trust towards the suppliers, have good opportunities to work with agile procurement. Challenges exists in an increased need of structure, a change in purchasing and contract procedures and the need of education and a culture shift. In the study, a framework for agile procurement of IT in the public sector has been developed. The framework is based on the national procurement process in Sweden and the agile ground values. In each procurement process phase activities that characterize agile methods are presented. The activities include for example creating self-organizing teams, setting requirements based on impact goals, creating a model for shared risk and work with incentives for efficiency. The study contributes to new knowledge of how agile methods can be incorporated in the public procurement process. By using the agile framework public organization can increase the harmonization between the procurement process and the implementation of IT, with the aim to increase the customer value and efficiency.

Full textThe purpose of this independent work is to describe how eight teachers work with pupils oral presentations. Focus of the study is to illustrate teachers’ working methods and strategies, to guide and support pupils throughout the process. The classroom climate´s effect on oral presentations and how teachers work with it, will also be clarified in this study. Based on the purpose of this work, three questions were asked: How do teachers work with the process of oral presentation? What strategies are used by the teachers to create a good classroom climate? How do teachers provide feedback? I conducted the survey based on interviews as a method. I interviewed eight teachers at three different schools, to seek their opinions about how they work with the process of oral presentation. The result shows a difference between teachers having knowledge of rhetorics and its working methods, as compared to teachers who lack the knowledge. Pupils whose teachers work consciously with oral presentations are taught strategies and techniques. It turns out that they are supported by the teacher throughout the process, from preparation to implementation, which contributes to increased self-confidence. Pupils, whose teachers do not consciously work with oral presentations, are often left alone in the preparatory work, at school or at home. This independent work highlights the importance of working consciously and systematically with pupils’ oral presentation, from preparation to implematation and post-production.

Full textThe architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry is facing many challenges. Notleast, the focus has been on reducing time and increasing the quality of construction projects. Inaddition, there is a development within digitizing. New digital tools and building techniquesrequire new working methods and now challenge the industry that has long been considered bothconservative and characterized by low productivity.A construction project involves actors of several kinds, where clients, project managers, designmanagers and production managers are some of the most obvious roles. To meet new challenges, changes in working methods and attitudes for these positions are required. In this thesis, an indepthstudy takes place within the role of the design managers’ abilities in order to be able to leadthe design team, which also faces new digital working methods. The design process is studied asthe process where input is transformed into output during a constant flow of informationexchange, which ultimately results in a value-creating product for the client. These three conceptsare the roots within the leadership of the design management. This thesis is carried out as a qualitative study, the purpose of which is to investigate the designmanagers’ abilities to lead the design team and how the role and leadership are affected by thedigitizing with BIM and VDC. The study studies the role of design managers when it comes toleading, coordinating and managing people and information. BIM is studied as collected andshared digital information in a virtual model that can be used as a working method. VDC is beingstudied as a strategy for integrating virtual models and a working method within the designprocess which implicates facilitating and making all actors’ tasks more efficient by using BIMand following ICE.Based on the results of the study, it can be said that there are generally six different areas withabilities that a design manager should possess in order to lead the design team; 1) experience indesign or production, 2) leadership skills, social skills and engagement, 3) decision-making skills,4)generalist, 5) organized, clear and well-grounded and 6) responsive. The thesis shows thatcollaboration and interactivity are very important parts for a successful design process. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that a forum is requested where the design team can designtogether. Therefore, design managers should gather the design team to a greater extent for asuccessful design process. This thesis demonstrates that design managers are faced withchallenges to plan and manage the design process from BIM and VDC. They experience changesin roles and responsibilities and difficulties in controlling ICE meetings. Design managers need tobe “awake of new professions” and keep the design team towards the final goal instead of thedigital model.
