The article describes ways of interpretation of dreams based on language assonance (rhyme, anaphora, anagram etc.) as a specific type of verbal magic. The genre of interpretation of dreams is defined through the archaic function of divination and prophecy applied in the process of interpretation, as well as through language archaism of magic qualities of sound repetitions that shape a binary interpretive formula. Motivation of symbolic meanings based on sound proximity of words give an idea about ways of creating a mythopoetic image of the world and peculiarities of archaic language thinking.

Abstract This article discusses the status of spirantisation in the Aramaic of Arabia based on transcriptions in Safaitic and other ancient Arabian languages. I suggest that ‘Arabian’ Aramaic pronunciation stems from an archaic variety of the language introduced by the Babylonians and Achaemenids in the mid-first millennium BCE. This variety lacked post-vocalic spirantisation and formed the basis for the local pronunciation of later Aramaic varieties, accounting for the archaic phonology of Aramaic loans into Arabian languages.

The global era has led to fairly rapid changes in language. Many words have become obsolete. There are also many words whose meanings have become irrelevant nowadays. Unfortunately, in Indonesian dictionaries, especially in the Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI; Comprehensive dictionary of Indonesian), there is no label for obsolete words. There is only an “archaic” label to mark all outdated words and a “classic” label to mark classical words. Another labeling problem in the KBBI is that there are no clear guidelines or criteria to determine when a word is considered archaic, obsolete, or cl

The derivation of Chinese denominal verbs has undergone a diachronic shift from freedom in Archaic Chinese to restriction in Post-Archaic Chinese. While denominal verbs in Archaic Chinese can be conveniently accommodated in a pragmatic account, those in Post-Archaic Chinese only yield to a syntactic account. The diachronic shift has arguably resulted from syntactic intervention: only those denominal verbs in Archaic Chinese that can possibly be derived in syntax have survived into Post-Archaic Chinese.
