Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Archery is one of the oldest human skills that survived to the present day. At first, it was used for hunting and war and later became a sport. The interest in archery has grown annually. Each type of sport has specific injuries. Information about archery-related injuries will allow us to develop preventive measures and help make this sport safer. The article will be useful for coaches, sports doctors, physiotherapists, and orthopedic surgeons. AIM: To present modern information about frequency, types of archery-related injuries, and preventive methods. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The publication search was performed in the PubMed/MEDLINE databases from 1978 to 2023 using combinations of OR, AND operators, and keywords: archery, archery injuries, rotator cuff injuries, arrow injuries, and overuse. Consequently, we extracted 49 foreign and domestic scientific sources. RESULTS: Archery injuries occur in 4.4 per 10,000 people involved in this sport. Acute injuries in archers are rare, mainly due to shooting errors and most often lead to soft tissue damage because of a fracture of a bow, arrow, or bowstring during a shot (83.3%) or as a result of touching the bowstring with a bow. Chronic injuries occur in 83.9% of archery athletes. The main risk factors for their occurrence include overuse, high repetitions during training, lack of strength of the athlete, and incorrect technique. Overuse (67.9%) is the most common cause of chronic tendon, ligament, and joint injuries. Injuries occurred in 30%–53% of cases in the shoulders (rotator cuff tear, scapular dyskinesia, and shoulder impingement syndrome), 12.8% in the elbow (medial and lateral epicondylitis and traumatic bursitis), 8.9%–19.9% in the spine and forearm (chronic tendovaginitis and tunnel syndromes). CONCLUSIONS: Proper training and safety measures help prevent acute injuries. Practicing archery techniques and strength training are the main measures of preventing muscle overuse and reducing the incidence of chronic injuries.

Priambudi, Muhammad Amin, Mashud, and Syamsul Arifin. "Effectiveness of the integration of SPT-Drill and imagery training methods: A treatment to beat target panic in archery." Journal Sport Area 9, no. 1 (December 24, 2023): 1–10. http://dx.doi.org/10.25299/sportarea.2024.vol9(1).13781.

Abstract:
Background Problems: Target panic was an experience that almost all archers went through. Research Objectives: This study aimed to minimise the symptoms of target panic in archery, including flinching, punching, freezing, and snap-shooting, by implementing the integration of the Specific Physical Training (SPT) Drill method with imagery. Methods: In this context, the method used is sports action research with the Kurt Lewin model, which consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were NPCI Kalsel Para-Archery athletes, totaling 12 athletes consisting of 9 males and 3 females. The data analysis used is descriptive-quantitative. Findings and Results: The study revealed an improvement in effectively managing panic-inducing events using the implemented method. In the initial cycle, 41.67% (5 athletes) achieved success in controlling panic, falling below the criteria. However, in the second cycle, there was a notable enhancement, reaching a success rate of 83.33% (10 athletes), meeting criteria. In the second cycle, proficiency levels showed a remarkable increase of 99.98% and a decrease of 28.58%. Conclusion: By demonstrating the effectiveness of integrating the SPT drill with imagery in alleviating target panic, this research makes a noteworthy contribution to the literature on sports psychology and archery training. The results highlight the appropriateness of this approach in improving archers' physical conditioning, fostering confidence, and subtly reshaping their perspectives on anxiety related to archery. We can say that the SPT drill with imagery worked because it got better every time from the first cycle to the next. This shows that it could be a good way to help archers who get target panic.

Abstract:
Para-archery and para-shooting, two very popular adaptive shooting disciplines that have earned their place as major official events in the Paralympic Games, share some similarities, as well as distinctive features in terms of rules, physiological requirements, and equipment used. The International Paralympic Committee has a clear responsibility to ensure that all sports within its jurisdiction, including adaptive shooting, can achieve excellence in their respective fields. To achieve this, the conduct of well-designed studies and rigorous research is essential. Although some research has been conducted in this area, a comprehensive and systematic evaluation is still needed. Therefore, the present study aims to provide a thorough review and synthesis of existing research on adaptive shooting disciplines, identify strengths and gaps, and suggest future directions. Arksey and O’Malley’s methodology is leveraged and enhanced with bibliometric and policy analyses to review literature on adaptive shooting. Databases like PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, OvidSP, and EMBASE were searched, focusing on studies in adaptive shooting disciplines and analysing these findings through a blend of thematic and statistical methods. Twenty-four studies totalling 483 para-athletes (299 para-shooters and 184 para-archers) are included in this scoping review, focusing on a range of aspects, including physiological responses (n = 9), research design and measurement methods for evidence-based classification (n = 6), biopsychosocial aspects (n = 3), development of new methods and technologies (n = 4), kinematic and biomechanical assessment (n = 1), and epidemiology of injuries (n = 1). Seven articles focused exclusively on para-archery, thirteen exclusively on para-shooting, and four on both para-archery and para-shooting. In conclusion, the available literature on adaptive shooting disciplines is still very limited, especially regarding para-archery compared to para-shooting. This highlights the need for further research in many key areas to ensure a better understanding of the different disciplines and to provide appropriate support for para-athletes. Future research in para-archery and para-shooting should focus on technological innovations, biomechanical studies, and psychological support to enhance athlete performance and accessibility. Addressing the imbalance between the two disciplines, along with injury prevention and global participation, can drive the sports towards greater inclusivity and equity for para-athletes worldwide.

Abstract:
Determining the effect of an individually selected complex of special physical exercises in archery and physical rehabilitation means on the functional state of the cardiovascular, neuromuscular, and sensory systems and sports achievements of Paralympic athletes. Material. To achieve the goal and solve the tasks of the study, the following methods were used: theoretical – search and bibliographic methods; empirical – medical-pedagogical and medical-biological research methods; methods of mathematical statistics. Results. The analysis of scientific and methodological literature on practically healthy archery athletes allowed us to establish the important role of the nervous, muscular, and sensory systems in the realization of the archer’s sports results. Physical loads in archery are static and well-studied in practically healthy athletes, but in Paralympic athletes, they have not yet been studied sufficiently, and the effect of physical rehabilitation and special physical exercises in archery on recovery processes in the post-training and post-competition periods has not been studied, so a scientific study of Paralympic athletes was conducted. It was found that the Paralympians of the experimental and control groups at the firing line before and after the first training session of the first stage (background indicators) had no significant differences between all studied indicators. Significant differences between the first and second stages of the study and between the first and third stages of the study were determined only in the experimental group. The positive influence of the use of a complex of special physical exercises in archery and physical rehabilitation means on increasing psycho-emotional stability and improving sports performance has been proved. It was proved that Paralympians of the experimental group were more stable in performing shots and outperformed Paralympians of the control group by the results of shots, which is also an argument for the application of the proposed changes to the plans of educational and training sessions. Conclusions. In order to improve and stabilize sports results, increase psycho-emotional stability in the preparatory part of training sessions of the preparatory and competitive periods, apply a set of special physical exercises in archery and in the final part of physical rehabilitation – back muscle massage, massage of the muscles of the shoulder girdle and upper extremities and, on a free day, recreational swimming.

Abstract:
Abstract:
The Mamluks are renowned for bringing the arts of furūsiyya to their highest expression. This thesis aims to identify both the issues of their dexterity, and characteristics. The first part focuses on the literature of furūsiyya. After a historiographical balance, several treatises of furūsiyya are analyzed and compared in order to better understand the legacy and contributions properly Mamluk. An anonymous treatise of handling dabbūs and fight on horseback, also containing some of the fires of war, is edited and translated. The second part of this thesis is on their military supremacy.Their extensive training is described, but the light was also put on their horses : races, training, numbers and maintenance. A wide selection of Mamluk weapons is presented. Finally, a chapter is devoted to the problem of combat methods, very little known, which tends to moderate vision of mounted archers that is generally widespread. The last part focus on social history. It aims to demonstrate that furūsiyya mastery was seen by the Mamluks as the knowledge of a complex art, an "attribute of distinction", which distinguished them from the hoi polloi. Then, the various manifestations of belonging to this social class are analyzed: "sports" riding, gambling venues and military training, and palace-stables, and finally the institutions and the shows. The appendices contain a detailed table of manuscripts of furūsiyya, a glossary and a few plates

Abstract:
The Desert Solitaire curriculum was designed as a basis for exploring Edward Abbey's book, of the same name, in a high school field ecology class. Students read the book over a period of six weeks during the middle of the school year. Lessons were designed to aid students in exploring their home ecosystem, the Mojave Desert, via comparison with Arches National Monument as described in Desert Solitaire. This exploration fosters in students a sense of place and connection with their home environment. With little alteration, the curriculum can be used by students to examine their own ecosystem, even if it is not a desert. Furthermore, this curriculum can be used for delving into environmental issues, exploring environmental values and/or beliefs, or as an introduction to the genre of nature literature.

The theme of this thesis is the transformation of a trickster figure in the Russian children's folklore. The first part is devoted to an analysis of trickster tale and trickster heroes. This section is primarily based on classic works of prominent ethnologists, anthropologists and folklorists - they are mainly the works of Claude Lévi-Strauss, Vladimir Propp, Jeleazar Meletinskij and many others. This section is concerned mainly on the systematization and analysis of the classic characteristics of a hero trickster for subsequent analysis and comparison of the current hero of the sadistic poems - the little boy. The second part is an introduction to the themes of the sadistic poems - it is dedicated to the history of their origin; historical, cultural and social factors that had an impact on their development; systemization of the sadistic poems by topics and trends. This part is based on the works of Russian anthropologists, folklorists and psychologists. The third part of my work is dedicated to an independent comparative analysis of the nature of the protagonist of the sadistic poems - the boy as a trickster figure. The analysis is based on the classic ethnographic studies devoted to trickster tales and also on the works on the phenomenon of the sadistic poems. During this analysis, where I...

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the evolution of vampire as a literary character in contemporary production for young adults. Its aim is not to describe all existing works but to cover only the most interesting representations of a vampire in various epochs. The thesis describes the most influential works building the literary stereotype of a vampire and proposes an evolution line. The crucial works in this genre are: Vampire, Carmilla, Dracula, Interview with a Vampire, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Twilight, House of Night, Vampire Academy and Vampire Boardingschool. Based on them we create a typology according to the appearance, character and narrative role of a vampire. The thesis begins with an anthropological introduction, especially with the origin of the vampires in Easteuropean folk tradition. Farther more we deal with most common genres used to enrich the vampire literature and theory of a literary character as a narrative category. The analysis covers the evolution of a vampire character from its naturalistic appearance to its very civilized pole in the contemporary young adults fiction. We close with the chapter describing the character of a vampire as a literary symbol.

AbstractAs embodiment plays a central role in Victorian novels exploring women’s journeys, the interdependence of health and travel comes expressly to light in Henry James’s The Portrait of a Lady (1881) and Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles (1891). In both novels, protagonists navigate possibilities and perils of motion while embarking on international voyages and rural wanderings. On the one hand, the mobility of Isabel Archer and Tess Durbeyfield merges a focus on the proliferation of transportation technology and medical tourism in Victorian society with depictions of movement as an enabler of female autonomy. On the other hand, the heroines’ exertions are contrasted against their family networks, male characters suffering from illness, and infant deaths intertwined with immobility. In this respect, the phenomenology of Maurice Merleau-Ponty provides insight into the embodied enactment and somatic sensation of physical motion. Centred around three elements of movement, the ailing body, and maternity connecting James’s and Hardy’s publications, Natasha Anderson’s chapter examines Isabel and Tess navigating interdependencies of illness and mobility as the young women encounter freedoms and limitations of health in the familial sphere alongside gendered allowances of movement spanning physical activities and transnational travel.

Abstract:
AbstractOrogenic gold deposits formed in various terranes of most ages since the Paleoarchean and generally consist of quartz veins hosted in shear zones formed at the ductile brittle transition under greenschist to lower amphibolite metamorphic conditions. Vein mineralogy is dominated by quartz with various amounts of silicates, carbonates, phyllosilicates, borates, tungstates, sulfides, and oxides. The isotopic composition of these minerals and fluid inclusions has been investigated since the 1960s to constrain the characteristics of orogenic fluid systems involved in the formation of gold deposits worldwide. This review is based on 8580 stable isotope analyses, including δ18O, δD, δ13C, δ34S δ15N, δ11B, and δ30Si values, from 5478 samples from 558 orogenic gold deposits reported in the literature from 1960 to 2010. This contribution describes the variability of the light stable isotopic systems as function of the minerals, the age of the deposits, their regional setting, and their country rocks. The temperature of isotopic equilibrium of orogenic gold veins is estimated from mineral pairs for oxygen and sulfur isotopes. Based on these temperatures, and on fractionation between mineral and fluid components (H2O, CO2 and H2S), the isotopic composition of fluids is estimated to better constrain the main parameters shared by most of auriferous orogenic fluid systems. Orogenic gold deposits display similar isotopic features through time, suggesting that fluid conditions and sources leading to the formation of orogenic gold deposits did not change significantly from the Archean to the Cenozoic. No consistent secular variations of mineral isotope composition for oxygen (−8.1‰ ≤ δ18O ≤ 33‰, n = 4011), hydrogen (−187‰ ≤ δD ≤ −4‰, n = 246), carbon (−26.7‰ ≤ δ13C ≤ 12.3‰, n = 1179), boron (−21.6‰ ≤ δ11B ≤ 9‰, n = 119), and silicon (−0.5‰ ≤ δ30Si ≤ 0.8‰, n = 33) are documented. Only nitrogen (1.6‰ ≤ δ15N ≤ 23.7‰, n = 258) and sulfide sulfur from deposits hosted in sedimentary rocks (−27.2‰ ≤ δ34S ≤ 25‰, n = 717) display secular variations. For nitrogen, the change in composition is interpreted to record the variation of δ15N values of sediments devolatilized during metamorphism. For sulfur, secular variations reflect incorporation of local sedimentary sulfur of ultimate seawater origin. No significant variation of temperature of vein formation is documented for orogenic gold deposits of different ages. Quartz-silicate, quartz-carbonate and sulfide-sulfide mineral pairs display consistent temperatures of 360 ± 76 °C (1σ; n = 332), in agreement with the more common greenschist facies hostrocks and fluid inclusion microthermometry. Fluid sources for orogenic gold deposits are complex but the isotopic systems (hydrogen, boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur) are most consistent with contributions from metamorphic fluids released by devolatilization of igneous, volcano-sedimentary and/or sedimentary rocks. The contribution of magmatic water exsolved from magma during crystallization is not a necessary component, even if permissible in specific cases. Isotopic data arrays can be interpreted as the result of fluid mixing between a high T (~550 °C)—high δ18O (~10‰)—low δD (~−60‰) deep-seated (metamorphic) fluid reservoir and a low T (~200 °C)—low δ18O (~2‰)—high δD (~0‰) upper crustal fluid reservoir in a number of orogenic gold deposits. The origin of the upper crustal fluid is most likely sea- or meteoric water filling the host rock porosity, with a long history of water–rock isotope exchange. Mixing of deep-seated and upper crustal fluids also explains the large variation of tourmaline δ11B values from orogenic gold veins. Regional spatial variations of oxygen and hydrogen isotope compositions of deep-seated fluid reservoirs are documented between orogenic gold districts. This is the case for the Val-d’Or (Abitibi), Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie (Yilgarn) where the oxygen isotope composition of the deep-seated fluid end-member is 4‰ lower compared to that from the Timmins, Larder Lake, and Kirkland Lake districts (Abitibi). However, both mixing trends converge towards a common, low δ18O upper crustal fluid end-member. Such variations cannot be related to fluid buffering at the site of deposition and suggest provinciality of the fluid source. The contribution of meteoric water is mainly recorded by fluid inclusions from Mesozoic and Cenozoic age deposits, but micas are not systematically in isotopic equilibrium with fluid inclusions trapped in quartz from the same vein. This suggests late involvement of meteoric water unrelated to deposit formation. Yet, a number of deposits with low δD mica may record infiltration of meteoric water in orogenic gold deposits. Isotope exchange between mineralizing fluid and country rocks is documented for oxygen, carbon, sulfur and silicon isotopes. Large variations (> 10‰) of sulfide δ34S values at the deposit scale are likely related to evolving redox conditions of the mineralizing fluid during reaction with country rocks. Deposits hosted in sedimentary rocks show a shift to higher δ18O values as a result of fluid/rock oxygen exchange with the regional sedimentary country rocks.

Abstract:
Abstract. Many authors believe that the morphological structure of the foot to some extent adapts to regular physical activity. Research is still being conducted on the impact of practising certain sports on the arching pattern of the feet. The available literature shows that body structure is also a frequent subject of research. The aim of the article is to determine the relationship between the arches of the feet and the body type of players representing team sports and selected individual sports. Material and methods: The research involved 14 players training boxing and 15 players training football. Method: The podoscopic method was used with the use of Podoscan 2D, anthropometric and the method of statistical analysis. Results: Most of the players had a mesomorphic body type. Higher mean values of the Clarke angle and the Alpha angle were found in footballers. The mean values of the Wejsflog index may indicate the correct transverse arches. Conclusions: There is a relationship between arched feet and the type of sport practised. The type of sport you do has to do with your body type. There is a relationship between the arch of the feet and body type.

Abstract The restoration of the monarchy in 1660 was celebrated with heroic pageantry which drew heavily on classical epic, thereby revealing the centrality of the genre to the aspirations and self-image of the age. The ‘poetical ‘ part of the official pageantry was organized by John Ogilby, who had published his complete translation of Virgil in 1649. The triumphal arches erected for Charles II ‘s coronation procession included Virgilian quotations, one of which, ‘Discite justitiam moniti ‘ ( ‘Be warned and learn justice ‘, Aeneid VI, 620), had a particular aptness for the times (see Harrison 1969: 145).

Abstract:
Abstract. In the present study, the stresses and displacements are analyzed for layered composite arches of various lamination schemes subjected to uniformly loading. The present work is majorly highlighted the effects of transverse normal stress and transverse normal strain using exponential shear and normal deformation theory (ESNDT). Governing equations are derived using Hamilton’s principle with application of Navier’s method subjected to simply supported end conditions. Present theory is free from use of any shear correction factor and it satisfies the zero traction free end boundary condition at the top and bottom surfaces of the layered composite arches. In the present work symmetric and antisymmetric lamination scheme have been studied to obtain the numerical results for four layered composite arches and is validated through results available in prior literature.

Abstract:
Abstract. The in-plane rocking of a masonry arch is studied. The starting motion of the arch is assumed to take place along the four-link failure mechanism u corresponding to a constant distribution of horizontal loads proportional to the arch self-weight. During such a motion, if overturning does not occur, the arch returns to the undeformed configuration, with all the hinges of the mechanism u simultaneously closing. At such an instant, impacts occur, implying a motion exchange and a subsequent movement of the arch along a new four-link mechanism u’. A novel impact model, different from the one available in literature, is here proposed. The restitution coefficient is computed by applying the linear and angular momentum impulse theorems. The rocking mechanism u’ of the arch after the impact is determined under the condition of minimum energy expense at the impact.

Abstract:
Hip replacement failure is mainly attributable to the implant wear. Consequently preclinical wear evaluations are extremely important. As experimental tests are attractive but highly cost/time demanding, several predictive models have been proposed mainly based on finite element simulations and for metal on plastic (MoP) implants. The aim of this study is to develop a mathematical wear model of metal on metal prostheses, revision of the previous one for MoP implants, developed by the same authors. The model, based on the Archard wear law and on the Hertzian theory, was applied to compare a total (THR) and a resurfacing (RHR) hip replacement under both in vivo and in vitro gait conditions. The results were in agreement with the literature predicting wear rates significantly higher for the RHR than for the THR. The effect of the boundary conditions on wear rates/maps was also investigated and the model limitations discussed.

Abstract:
"Rock anchors are high-capacity reinforcement measures used to stabilise large-scale infrastructure. There are four main failure mechanisms for rock anchors, which are: (1) rock mass uplift failure; (2) grout-rock interface failure; (3) tendon-grout interface failure; and (4) steel tendon tensile failure. A large-scale laboratory test rig has been developed to test block models which simulates rock mass uplift failure (failure mode 1). The design methods against failure mode 1 are the most conservative and least satisfactory design methods according to literature. The full-field displacements of the models were monitored with digital image correlation (DIC). The block model tests had higher capacities than what was calculated with the current design methods using the weight of overlying rock cone and presumptive shear strength values along the assumed failure cone. The capacity and failure shape in the block models showed to be structurally dependent on the block model pattern. The horizontal stress in the models increased during the tests, which showed that load arches were induced in the block models during the uplift. The load capacity of the block models increased with model height and horizontal stress level."

Abstract:
"In unstable ground, the tunnel can be pre-supported by driving spiles and forepoles into the crown and walls ahead of the excavation face with a small inclination angle upward. In Sweden, the nomenclature for this type of pre-support is ""spiling"". Spiling, which is a temporary support, is frequently used in Swedish tunnels. However, there is a lack of guidelines and international standardization for the design of spiling. This paper explores the design of spiling in unstable ground with focus on tunnels excavated in the Nordic countries with generally hard rock masses. Based on a benchmark, case and literature study review, example of guidelines and starting points in the design of spiling have been compiled. Cases, with different types of designed and installed spiling, are presented in the paper, followed by a discussion of when, and for what rock conditions, to use rebar spiles, pipe spiles, or self-drilling spiles to achieve a safe excavation progress. Analytical design methodologies used in Swedish cases are presented, including beam models for spiling sections between supporting arches or the face. Cases where numerical modelling have been used in the design of spiling are also described. The findings presented in this paper shows a lack of guidelines on how to design spiling. Future research work linked to model uncertainty, local arching effect and quality assessment is suggested, which will be beneficial for tunnel engineers in designing spiling in the future."

Abstract:
Cultural heritage buildings generally refer to the ancient structures having high cultural and historical significance. These buildings are constructed using obsolete practices and require special considerations with respect to the lateral resistance, especially in moderate and high seismic regions. This study focuses on the earthquake performance assessment of the Episcopal Seminary Building and Classical Gymnasium (Jesuit College) located in the Old City of Dubrovnik, Croatia (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The construction dates back to 1662 and was developed in different stages until 1765. During this period, Jesuit College suffered damages from two major earthquakes i.e., M7.6 Dubrovnik in 1667 and M6.9 Montenegro in 1979. The material composition, structural drawings, and fundamental frequencies of the building were previously obtained in the framework of the research project “Seismic Risk Assessment of Cultural Heritage in Croatia – SeisRICHerCRO”. The material is predominantly composed of irregular stone blocks laid in lime mortar. The structural details such as floor vaults, arches, flexible diaphragms, and spatially irregular openings are numerically modelled using the finite element method. The analytical model is calibrated by performing eigenvalue analysis to compute the material parameters i.e., elastic modulus and density (supported by extensive literature review) that allows the modal frequencies to match with the values obtained from the ambient vibration testing. The seismic performance is then evaluated using the linear analysis procedure in accordance with the current guidelines of the Eurocode 8 and the corresponding Croatian National Annex. For the design earthquake, critical damage zones are identified and recommendations for retrofitting measures are proposed.

Abstract:
This report presents Re-Os dating of molybdenite from the Don Rouyn deposit and St. Jude breccia prospect in the Rouyn-Noranda mining district in the southern Abitibi greenstone belt, Quebec. Both have been described as porphyry-style, magmatic-hydrothermal Cu-(Au-Mo) deposits associated with the Flavrian and Powell subvolcanic plutons based on the nature of the mineralized zones, their setting and available U-Pb age constraints. To further constrain the timing of mineralization, molybdenite was sampled at both sites for Re-Os geochronology. Although the analyzed sample from the St. Jude prospect did not yield a realistic age, a molybdenite mineral separate sample from the Don Rouyn deposit yielded a reliable age of 2689 ± 11 Ma. Interestingly, the Don Rouyn molybdenite is distinguished by extremely high Re content (>5200 ppm Re) that compares with that of the world's richest porphyry deposits. Based on the Re-Os age obtained in this study and limited descriptions of the deposit available in the literature, the Don Rouyn deposit is most likely associated with the emplacement of the Flavrian-Powell intrusive complex at ~2700 Ma, as suggested in previous studies. However, a younger timing of emplacement, comparable to other ca. 2682-2680 sub-alkaline to alkaline magmatic-hydrothermal Cu-(Au-Mo) deposits in the southern part of Blake River Group, although less likely, cannot be entirely ruled out based on the available constraints and the molybdenite Re- Os age presented here.
